JavaScript - Some Of My Code Is Causing Error Invalid Assignment Left-hand Side
The suspect line is the following
$('.leaveClan').attr('id') = <?php echo $id; ?>; the span with the class (there is only one) leaveClan is on the main page, and that line of javascript is on a page being called by AJAX within that page. Can anyone see why that is causing an error? Let me know if you need to see any more of the code Similar TutorialsHi, I have written a function to compare each character in startString with another nominated character (nomChar). If they are the same this character is written to outputString, in the same position. If they are not the same a character is lifted from the same position in altString and placed in the same position in outputString instead. I hope that's clear! Code as follows: Code: function compareChar(startString, altString, nomChar) { var outputString = ''; outputString.length = startString.length; var nextLetter = ''; for (var count = 0; count < startString.length; count = count + 1) { nextLetter = startString.charAt(count); if (nextLetter == nomChar) { outputString.charAt(count) = nextLetter; } else { outputString.charAt(count) = altString.charAt(count); } } } document.write(compareChar('boston', 'denver' , 'o' ) ); However, the line of code within the if statement Code: outputString.charAt(count) = nextLetter; keeps generating an 'Invalid assigment left hand side' error message. Can anyone see why this is the case? Thanks. I have a resized textbox. When the textbox gets resized less that 0px I get an Invalid Augment error. How can I trap that error? function DecreaseSize(){ var ta.style.height = $get('<%=myTextbox.ClientID %>'); ta.style.height = (parseInt(ta.style.height) - 23) + "px"); } Hi, So I'm testing my webpage in IE8. In firefox it looks and runs greag, but in IE 8, one issue I'm having is this: I have a button that opens a popup window. Works fine in Firefox, but I get 'invalid argument' error in IE8 and the window does not open. I've enabled at a whim some scripting things in the Internet Options hoping that would resolve the issue, but not so. Here's the code. The "invalid argument" occurs on the window.open call. Code: function open_report() { createURL(); var report_vars = created_URL; report_vars = report_vars.substr(69); report_array = report_vars.split('='); var from_d = report_array[2].substr(0,10); var to_d = report_array[3].substr(0,10); window.open('detailedreport.shtml' + report_vars, 'My Site | Detailed Report - ' + from_d + ' to ' + to_d, 'title=yes, status=no, toolbar=no, location=no, menubar=no, scrollbars=yes, modal=yes, alwaysRaised=yes, width=' + window.outerWidth / 1.1 + ', height=' + window.outerHeight); } In addition, is there any way to have that tile I've given it, "my Site..." appear in the window header? Right now it's not appearing at all in either browser. Thanks for reading! I am using a jQuery slider on a website but the code comes up with invalid, is there any wat to get around this without using a div tag? Here is the line of code I'm adding: Code: echo '<td><a class="link" href="#" onClick="ajaxwin=dhtmlwindow.open('ajaxbox', 'ajax', 'pages/post.php', 'Composing Mode: Post', 'width=650px,height=400px,left=300px,top=100px,resize=0,scrolling=1'); return false">Compose</a></td>'; It is not a php issue, I plaintext the link and it still did the same thing. EDIT: Ive actually managed to sort this out. The problem was as simple as the onload in the body tag was overriding the onload script in the header. Combining the two solved the problem. Ive recently been appointed to do some work on my employers website. For now, to hold us over until we can manage a complete re-write, I have been asked to just do a little update to the look and feel. One of the things I have done is use the niftycorners code for rounded divs. I have had no trouble implementing this code over all the site pages, until I got to one page. Our product pages. Ive never seen a code placed directly within the body tag, but this is what has been done here. <BODY onload="pricing_init(); attribute_changed();"> This code loads the dynamic pricing feature. Unfortunately, it also causes the nifty corners code I have placed between the head tags to fail. I dont know if its just the odd placement of the code or the code itself as I am just learning js (using the Javascript and Ajax for dummies book). Is there some way I can alter this so that both the dynamic pricing and nifty corners works? thanks in advance for any suggestions. I've been writing calculators with Javascript for over ten years and using the "to.Exponential" function for formatting and rounding. Recently, it is causing a problem for me. Here is a very shortened version of a calculator on which I am working: http://www.1728.com/count.htm This works fine for the first time it is activated but it doesn't work for the second (or any number of additional) times. (Keep clicking "calculate" and you'll see what I mean.) I didn't want to link to the original calculator (because of its size) but the "to.Exponential" function causes yet another problem in that one. When the count ('ct') is equal to five or six, the program stops working. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Hi people, I need help as follows: On the server side I have a php generated session parameter. I need to pass it to javascript on the client side page. I saw on the web the following solution: <script language="JavaScript"> var mySessionVar="<%= Session["MySessionVar"] %>"; </script> I tried it but it did not work. I could not find any explanation of this syntax - will appreciate one. Any suggestions, maybe in another way? Thanks http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?t=87742 I've been using the advice and code here to start incorporating expanding/collapsing tables into my work, but I'm hitting a little problem. I want to have multiple such tables side-by-side (each headed by a picture and populated by a lightbox, which isn't the issue), but Dreamweaver wants nothing to do with the idea. I don't really even know if it's possible, but if it is I'd like to know what sort of changes I might need to make to achieve it.
Here is the assignment: Ocean Levels Assuming the ocean’s level is currently rising at about 1.5 millimeters per year, write a program that displays a table showing the number of millimeters that the ocean will have risen each year for the next 25 years. (we should use a "for" loop) Here is my code so far: <html> <head> <title>Ocean Page</title> <script type = "text/javascript"> var year, rise; document.write("Number of Years Ocean Level <br />"); year_str = alert("This will give you the prediction of ocean level rise for up to 25 years", ""); year_str= 25 year = parseFloat(year_str); rise_str = alert("The Ocean Rises at 1.5 milimeters a day", ""); rise_str = 1.5 rise_str = parseFloat(rise_str); r= parseFloat(rise_str) var MAX_VALUE = r; for (rise=1; rise <= r; ++rise ) { distance = rise * year document.write(year+" years   "+ distance+" ocean level <br />"); } </script> </head> <body> <h3>Click Refresh (or Reload) to run the script again</h3> <br /> </body> </html> END So far it just gives me years 25 ocean level 25. I can probably figure out how to create a table...but I'm having an issue getting the 1.5 to multiply 25 times. Any help? Hi, I have been working on a CS assignment that pertains to calculating the total cost (including tax) once a certain item is bought (there are a total of 4 different products). I can't get the code to work, so any help is much appreciated. Thank you. Question: Create a Web page that contains 1 text field and 1 button. The text field will be used to display the product/service ordered. Use a prompt window to get the user's name. Convert their name to proper case. Use an alert window to display a welcome message that includes their name. Use a prompt window to ask the user which one of four products/services they wish to purchase. Based on their input, calculate the tax and total cost for this product/service. Display the product/service ordered in the proper field. Then create bill. At the end, use the an alert window to display a message telling the user to click the browser's Back button to reload the page to start again. Code so far: Code: <html> <head> <title> Android World Products </title> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var fullName = ""; function askName() { fullName = prompt("Please Enter Your Name:"); var x = fullName.indexOf(" "); var firstName = fullName.substring(0,x); firstName = firstName.substring(0,1).toUpperCase() + firstName.substring(1); var lastName = fullName.substring(x+1); lastName = lastName.substring(0,1).toUpperCase() + lastName.substring(1); fullName = firstName + " " + lastName; if (x > -1) alert("Welcome " + fullName); else alert("Please try again."); } var evoPrice = 250.00; var optimusPrice = 200.00; var captivPrice = 150.00; var casePrice = 30.00; var products = new Array('HTC Evo 4G','LG Optimus S','Samsung Captivate','Leather Case'); var prices = new Array(evoPrice,optimusPrice,captivPrice,casePrice); var tax = 1.08375; var totalCost = 0; if(product==1) {totalCost = evoPrice + (evoPrice*tax); } else if(product==2) {totalCost = optimusPrice + (optimusPrice*tax); } else if(product==3) {totalCost = captivPrice + (captivPrice*tax); } else if(product==4) {totalCost = casePrice + (casePrice*tax); } return totalCost; } var seeBill = confirm("Click OK to See Your Bill"); if(seeBill) { Window = window.open("","Receipt","width=200,height=200"); Window.document.write("Android World <br>"); Window.document.write("Customer Name: "+Name+"<br>"); if(product=="1") {Window.document.write("Product: "HTC Evo 4G"<br>"); Window.document.write("Cost: $"evoPrice"<br>"); } else if(product=="2") {Window.document.write("Product: "LG Optimus S"<br>"); Window.document.write("Cost: $"optimusPrice"<br>"); } else if(product=="3") {Window.document.write("Product: "Samsung Captivate"<br>"); Window.document.write("Cost: $"captivPrice"<br>"); } else if(product=="4") {Window.document.write("Product: "Leather Case"<br>"); Window.document.write("Cost: $"casePrice"<br>"); } Window.document.write("Tax: 8.375%<br>"); Window.document.write("Your total cost for this purchase: $"totalCost"<br>"); Window.document.write("Thank you for shopping at Android World!"); function show_prompt() <input type=button value="Try it now" onClick="alert('Please use the browser's back button to reload the page')"> </script> </head> <body onload="askName ()"> <body style="background-color:#66FF66"> <h1> Android World Products </h1> <ol>Offered Products: <li>HTC Evo 4G: $250.00</li> <li>LG Optimus S: $200.00</li> <li>Samsung Captivate: $150.00</li> <li>Leather Case: $30.00</li> </ol> <br> <!--form name="Form" action="" method=""> <br> <input type="text" name="customer" onclick="typename()" /> <input type="button" name="" value="Confirm Your Purchase" onclick="" /> </form> </body> </html> First of all, Who's the best Javascript here?
Hello, in semester 2 of my first year of a Business Computer Systems. Anyway for my recent assignment I need to build a pretty basic shopping cart and have some cilent side validation as well. ----------------------------------------- Shopping Cart Anyway for the shopping cart do i have to: Item = goes into its own array Amount = goes into its own array price = goes into its own array then use a retrieve function to add each array into different sections in a table. and then simply times the amounts by their prices then add them all together using for loops? or can Item Amount = All in the same array. Price Then use a for loop to detect the correct data from the array for each section of the shopping cart? ----------------------------------------- Client Side Validation Presumably I just use simply javascript to detect phone numbers within a box form. i.e. (in simply english) if amount in phone form is < 11 then display alert. same for @ and . for email address? Hello everybody, could anyone offer an insight into why this isn't work please? It should be a simple project I was given at college but it stops near the end. The task is to ask a user for a word using a form, then spell it out backwards — stupid, but, hey — it's a lesson! Here's the code: Thanks. <h2>JavaScript exercise 4</h2> <p>Ask the user for a string of text. This must then be displayed in reverse.
