JavaScript - Deleting All Table Entries-for And While Loops Produced Unexpected Results
I wrote a script that should delete all table rows at once.
For loop deletes all rows except row 1 and row 3. Further clicking on the delete button, deletes row 1 and then 3. While loop ,on the first click on the delete button, also leaves rows 1 and 3 not deleted. Further clicking on the delete button, does not delete these rows. I was sure that both version of the script should delete all rows in the table at once. Could someone look at the script and tell me what is wrong? Thank you very much Code: <html> <head> <title>Deleting All Table Entries</title> </head> <script type="text/javascript"> /* WHILE LOOP var i=0; function deleteAll() { document.getElementById("deleteButton").onclick=function() { var table=document.getElementById("myTable"); while(i<table.rows.length) { table.deleteRow(i); i++; } } } */ /*FOR LOOP*/ function deleteAll() { document.getElementById("deleteButton").onclick=function() { var table=document.getElementById("myTable"); for(var i=0; i<table.rows.length; i++) { table.deleteRow(i); } } } window.onload=deleteAll; </script> <body> <table id="myTable"> <tr> <td>Row 0</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Row 1</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Row 2</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Row 3</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Row 4</td> </tr> </table> <button id="deleteButton"> Delete All Rows in the Table </button> </body> </html> Similar TutorialsI am trying to compare dates to see if they are equal, one date is passed to my function from a calendar. alert(mydate); returns "Tue Dec 22 10:00:00 EST 2009" My date that I need to compare is written dynamically out of a database and it is formatted as a string: 2009-12-22 One might think that (Date(2009-12-22) == mydate) would be true, except the time is also included ... thus it is false, but if I try to use something like this: Code: var dd = new Date(2009-12-22); if(dd.toDateString == mydate.toDateString) ...dostuff ... the dates don't equal ... and I subsequently find out that dd.toDateString actually returns "Fri Jan 22 2010" when I explicitly passed 2009-12-22 to the function. I'd simply like to compare the dates to determine if they are equal so I can pass a return value back to the calendar. The code that works, effectively returning false on all Tuesdays after today is: Code: function disallowDate(d) { var today = new Date(); if (d.getDay() == 2 && (d > today)) return false; return true; } Now I need to determine if any date selected previously is available, so I have to read them out of the database and write them dynamically to the script. Right now I have something like this, but obviously it doesn't work. Code: function disallowDate(d) { var today = new Date(); if (d == Date(2009-12-29)) return true; //this lines is written dynamically if (d == Date(2009-12-22)) return true; //this lines is written dynamically if (d.getDay() == 2 && (d >= today)) return false; return true; } thanks! My table starts like this: Code: <table> <tr> <td rowspan='2'></td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> </table> When an addRows button is clicked, the first two rows are copied (cloned), a checbox is then inserted into the row1 cell1, then the two rows are appended: <table> <tr> <td rowspan='2'></td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td rowspan='2'><input type='checkbox' name='check[]'></td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> </table> Rows, except the first two can then be deleted by selecting the appropriate checkbox and clicking a deleteRow button. The check[] only exists after the first two rows have been copied and appended, so undefined means only two rows exist. Having a problem with the while loop. If a browser sees the next sibling of a tr as a td, the the loop should force the browser to go to the next sibling until its a tr, i.e row4. But its causing my browser(FF) to become unresponsive. Code: function deleteRow() { if(check == 'undefined') { return; } else { var check = document.getElementsByName('check[]'),row, nextRow,x; var len = check.length; for(x=len-1; x>=0; x--) { if(check[x].checked) { row = check[x].parentNode.parentNode; while(row.nextSibling.nodeName != 'tr') { nextRow = row.nextSibling; } nextRow = row.nextSibling; alert('ok'); } } } } Appreciate ans help with this? My table had the following layout. Code: <table> <tr> <td rowspan='2'><td> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> </table> After clicking an add rows button, the two rows are cloned and appended as follows with a checkbox added as shown. Code: <table> <td rowspan='2'><td> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td rowspan='2'><input type='checkbox' name='check'><td> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Data</td><td>Data</td><td>Data</td> </tr> </table> I want to be able to delete rows 3&4 by selecting the checkbox in row 3 and clicking a delete rows button. Regardless of how many sets of rows have been previously added, any set of rows can be deleted by selecting the appropriate checkbox(es) and clicking delete button. I'm trying to figure out how this can be done. My thinking is if checkbox is checked, calculate row index. I would then have to call deleteRow twice on that row index. Is there a better way of doing this? this is my javascript code: Code: var aaa, aab; aaa = choo.chooserver0.checked; aab = choo.chooserver1.checked; k=(aaa==true)?0:(aab==true)?1:(aaa=true&&aab==true)? 'b2' : false ; now when the checkbox with id chooserver0 is checked, it sets k's value to 0, and when checkbox with id chooserver1 is checked it sets its value to 1, but when both are checked it must set value to b2, but it sets value to 0, why? and when i write it as: Code: var aaa, aab; aaa = choo.chooserver0.checked; aab = choo.chooserver1.checked; k=(aaa=true&&aab==true)? 'b2' :(aaa==true)?0:(aab==true)?1: false ; when box 1 is checked, it sets k= false, when box2 is checked it sets k= 'b2' and when both are checked it sets k = 'b2'... why is code doing so? OK I am wanting to build a table that I can enter data in to and have people sort by a drop down box like the 4th table down on this list -- http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/...lefilter.shtml But I have followed those instructions step by step and it never works. I was told to use .asp I have changed my page to a .asp and now have no clue where to go from here. In searching this site I have found this code -- [CODE] <script> function Filter(table){ var f=document.getElementById('f').value.toUpperCase(); for (a=1; a<table.rows.length; a++) { if (table.rows[a].cells[0].innerHTML.toUpperCase().indexOf(f)!=0) table.rows[a].style.display="none"; else table.rows[a].style.display="table-row"; } } </script> <table id="states" border=1> <tr><td>State</td><td>Code</td></tr> <tr><td>ALABAMA</td><td>AL</td></tr> <tr><td>ALASKA</td><td>AK</td></tr> <tr><td>MAINE</td><td>ME</td></tr> <tr><td>MARSHALL ISLANDS</td><td>MH</td></tr> </table> <form> <input type="text" name="f" id="f"> <input type="button" value="Filter" onclick="Filter(document.getElementById('states'));"> </form> [CODE] But it gives me a filter that I have to type in. I am looking for drop downs that allow me to filter so say you select drop down for fields that contain "A" then another drop down for a field that contains "B" so the results show fields that contain "A" and "B" And PS I am semi new to the code world so please don't assume I know some stuff dumb it down a little HAHA view the rest of my comments works on the first page but when i extend the search results the rest of the view comments wont expand. click View all 3 comments and it will show all comments then click more button try to click the view all comments on the next comment and nothing happens but the screen jumping up to the top. http://www.runningprofiles.com/membe...ll_Script.php# Why is this?? I am having trouble with the following code. Right now the user clicks the button and it shows all of the blogs from the blog array. However I want it to just reveal 2 then two more and two more and so on as the user clicks button. I have tried multiple things but can't seem to get it right. Most of the things i try either reveal the entire blog on start or when the user clicks hides all of them. Code: function showBlog(numEntries) { // Show the list of blog entries blog.sort(Blog.blogSorter); // First sort the blog if (!numEntries) // Adjust the number of entries to show the full blog, if necessary function showBlog(numEntries) { // Show the list of blog entries blog.sort(Blog.blogSorter); // First sort the blog if (!numEntries) // Adjust the number of entries to show the full blog, if necessary numEntries = blog.length; // Show the blog entries var blogListHTML = ""; for (var i = 0; i < blog.length && i < numEntries; i++ ) { blogListHTML += blog[i].toHTML(i % 2 == 0); } document.getElementById("blog").innerHTML = blogListHTML; // Set the blog HTML code on the page } // Show the blog entries var blogListHTML = ""; for (var i = 0; i < blog.length && i < numEntries; i++ ) { blogListHTML += blog[i].toHTML(i % 2 == 0); } document.getElementById("blog").innerHTML = blogListHTML; // Set the blog HTML code on the page } I writed the following HTML code: Quote: <html> <head> <title>Pagina di Prova</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="/home/savio/Scrivania/prova.js"></script> </head> <body> <h1 align="center">PROVA DI RIMOZIONE DI RIGHE E CELLE DALLA TABELLA</h1> <br/><br/> <table id="nometabella" border="2" align="center" cellpadding="10%"> <tr id="nomeriga1"><td>Cella 1</td><td>Cella 2</td></tr> <tr id="nomeriga2"><td>Cella 3</td><td>Cella 4</td></tr> <tr id="nomeriga3"><td>Cella 5</td><td>Cella 6</td></tr> </table> <input type="submit" value="Enter" onclick="return del()"/> </body> </html> and the following javascript code: Quote: function del() { if (document.getElementById) { var tabella = document.getElementById("nometabella"); var riga1 = document.getElementById("nomeriga1"); tabella.removeChild(riga1); } } I want to delete first row of table, but it happens nothing. How can solve this problem? How can I to delete white spaces around parameter that I to pass with HTML forms. For example, if I have 'firstname lastname ' or ' firstname lastname', exist it a builtin function in javascript to obtian 'firstname lastname'? savio I have created a calculator for my site but I am having troubles figuring out a way to make the "add row" and "delete row" functionality work correctly. I would like the user to only see 1 row of information and then add/delete rows as needed. I currently only have 4 static rows. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks The page is at https://learningportal.juniper.net/j...lator/Calc.htm Our site allows the user to specify his or her location, which is then stored in a cookie. As the user navigates from page to page on the site, this location is remembered. The user also has the option of changing their location. This calls a javascript function which sets the value of that location cookie to "". When another function sees that the value is "" of that cookie, it brings back the location selector. Then the user can start over and choose a location. Here's the problem: Let's say I'm on page 1 of the site and I choose location A. Then I navigate to page 2. On page 2, I say I want to change my location. Now the page shows me the location selector instead of saying that I am in location A. So far, so good. However, if I now navigate back to page 1, it thinks I am still in location A. the cookie was deleted for page 2, but still remembered for page 1. It isn't a cache issue; if I reload the page, page 1 will still say that I am located in location A, even though on page 2, I elected to delete that cookie (or to set its value to ""). What is a better way to delete cookie so that if I were to navigate back to a page on which I'd previously set the cookie, it will now know that the value is the new value (""), and not the value I'd originally set the first time I visited the page? THANK YOU! Say I have a <textarea> input and I want to strip all the blank lines (lines with only whitespace). I have this regular expression, why doesn't it do anything? I've tried different variations with the flags (m and g). Code: ... var output = input.replace(/^\s*$/gm, "notworking!"); ... The very same regex works fine in my text editor (Notepad2), and I can match all empty lines. Code: LINE1 LINE4 ^(line 3 has some spaces) should become Code: LINE1 LINE4 And when I finally do get this to work, how would I remove the empty line? Hi Experts, I have an online application form that a member submits to register with our organization. However I want to make sure that the member submits only one application form per session year. Is there anyway I could setup a java script that lets the member know that they have already submitted their application when they try to re-submit. The current setup lets them submit many applications which I am trying to prevent. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Vinny Hi there, I have this form that validates a few textboxes & a dropdownlist. And when it is not filled in, the border of the textboxes and dropdownlist would turn red, followed by an alert message notifying which field have not been filled in. Else, the border will revert back to black, and the form will be submitted successfully. Right now, I would like to prevent the user from entering blanks (like entering a space to cheat the system). How should I tweak the codes to make it work? Javascript Code: function check(checkForm) { var fields = new Array("Name","Email Address", "Domain Name"); var index = new Array(),k=0; for(var i=0;i<fields.length;i++) { var isFilled = false; var c = document.getElementsByName(fields[i]); for(var j = 0; j < c.length; j++) if(!c[j].value == "") { isFilled = true; c[j].className = "defaultColor"; } else { c[j].className ="changeToRed"; } if(!isFilled) { index[k++] = fields[i]; } } if(k>0) { joinComma = index.join(', '); alert('The field(s) corresponding to '+ joinComma + ' is/are not selected.'); return false; } } HTML Code: * Name: <input type="text" id="Text27" name="Name" /><br /> <br /> *Email Address: <input type="text" id="Text28" name="Email Address" /> @ <select id="Select5" name="Domain Name"> <option></option> <option>hotmail.com</option> <option>yahoo.com</option> </select> <input id="Submit5" type="submit" value="Submit" onclick="return check(checkForm)"/> Hi, I would like to add Start / Pause buttons to my website which upon click change from Start to Pause and back. And an onclick event of writing a DB entry which on the other end will be read again by a php script. There is all ready a javascript on the page being: Code: <script type="text/JavaScript"> function showHide(elementid){ if (document.getElementById(elementid).style.display == 'none'){ document.getElementById(elementid).style.display = ''; } else { document.getElementById(elementid).style.display = 'none'; } } </script> At the moment it echo's DB rows with php and i want to add the buttons to the echoed line. I'm fairly new to php and don't know anything about javascript basicly. Is there anyone that can help me with this? Many thanks EDIT: Post deleted
Hello, i am new here however my knowledge is not that limited like that one guy wolf who oldMaster was helping with i read the RULES and his thread lol so my question is, i have made a for loop and in side the for loop i wrote document.write(<td>date</td>"<td class = 'amt'>amount</td>); where date, amount, firstName, and lastName, are the values of the date, amount, firstName, and lastName arrays for the index indicated by the current value of the for loop counter varible so questions : i have spent the past 3 days looking online for the correct answer document.write(<td>date</td>"<td class = 'amt'>amount</td>); ? //new Array("firstName", "lastName", "street", "city", "state", "zip", "amount", "date"); //that loops through all the values in the amount array, at each point in the loop add the current value of the array item to the value of the total variable for(var i = 0; i < amount.length; i++) { total = total + amount[i]; }//enf forloop //i must return the sum of all the values in the amount array return total; }//end of function total </script> </head> <body> <div id="title"> <img src="logo.jpg" alt="The Lighthouse" /> The Lighthouse<br /> 543 Oak Street<br /> Owensboro, KY 42302<br/> (270) 555-7511 </div> <div id="data_list"> <!--//creates a new script --> <script type = "text/javascript"> document.write("<table border='1' rules='rows' cellspacing='0'>"); I've previously done HTML, but now started to learn some aspects of Javascript but getting rather confused with Loops! I've done a some coding for the Loop question (probably doesn't make sense) but I was wondering if you could help me out? I'm about as confused as a cow on a Astro Turf so my code may look terrible! - For this question you will: Draw a flow chart and write a javascript function which will use a for loop and allow the user to enter the details for four students when the program is run and display the average. Assume that they equal weighting. Hint: Javascript may assume that the value received from a prompt is a string so use parseInt() to make sure the number is an integer. Here is my code: (I'm using Aptana) Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/javascript; charset=utf-8"/> <title>Average Marks</title> <!-- Date: 2011-10-27 --> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function marks () { var mark1 = 10; var mark2 = 25; var mark3 = 50; for(var mark1 = 10; mark1<20; mark1++) (var mark2 = 25; mark2<50; mark2++) (var mark3 = 50; mark3<90; mark3++) { alert(mark1 + "<br /> "); (mark2 + "<br /> "); (mark3 + "<br />" ); console.log(mark1) console.log(mark2) console.log(mark3) } } function average () { parseInt() } </script> <body onload="marks()"> </body> </head> </html> P.S. I'm not using the prompt for the user to enter their details yet, as I wanted to test it with the marks already set. Regards |
