JavaScript - Dynamically Creating Elements Inside A Table
Forgive me, I come from a ColdFusion background and DOM manipulation is not one of my strongest assets. I am trying to dynamically create (and also delete) a row inside a table, which contains three cells that each have three form elements (a input box, a select drop-down box that is populated by a query to a database, and a textarea).
Now all the JavaScript/jQuery examples I've seen for dynamically creating elements are very basic, nothing this complex. Could I get some help?! This is what I'm trying to dynamically create so that the user can add more options but also delete them. Would the jQuery clone() function be a good choice for this? Code: <tr> <td> <input type="text" id="rejectName" /> </td> <td> <select id="divSelectReason"> <option value="" selected="true">Enter Rejection Reason</option> <cfoutput query="queryReasonReturn"> <option>#codeAndReason#</option> </cfoutput> </select> </td> <td> <textarea id="editReason" cols="30"></textarea> </td> </tr> Now when a row is dynamically created I also have to access those values as well, so I would assume using a variable that counts each row created, and appends that iteration to the name of that particular element. Similar TutorialsHello, I'm trying to write a script for a website that reads from a database and makes a separate table for each entry in the database. Since the number of entries can change, I want to dynamically create a div for each one, which I can later hide or display based on user selection. However, when I try to access the dynamically created elements by their ID, they return null. Is what I'm trying to do here actually possible? Code: for(var i = 0; i < tables.length; i ++) { var newDiv = document.createElement("div"); newDiv.setAttribute("id", tables[i].name); newDiv.setAttribute("name", tables[i].name); newDiv.setAttribute("class", "hidden"); newDiv.innerHTML += tables[i].name; newDiv.innerHTML += "<table id = 'table"+tables[i].name+"' border = '1'>"; newDiv.innerHTML += "<tr>"; for(var rows = 0; rows < table.arrayOfFields.length; rows++) { newDiv.innerHTML+="<th>"+table.arrayOfFields[rows].title+"</th>"; numOfEntries = table.arrayOfFields[rows].arrayOfEntries.length; } newDiv.innerHTML+="<tr>"; for(var cols = 0; cols < numOfEntries; cols++) { for(var rows = 0; rows < table.arrayOfFields.length; rows++) { newDiv.innerHTML+="<td>"+table.arrayOfFields[rows].arrayOfEntries[cols].data+"</td>"; } newDiv.innerHTML+="<tr>"; } newDiv.innerHTML+="</table>"; document.body.appendChild(newDiv); } im trying to create a script for greasemonkey (tried getting help from their discussion forums, but no one ever answers), but its still written in javascript. so here is what im trying to do. Ive got a dynamically created division that aligns to the right of the browser window. Now im trying to put links inside it as you normally would with like a document.write statement or other methods. The only problem is, any method i try wont work for me. heres my code, maybe someone could give me some things i could try. Code: function QuickLinks() { var body = document.body; var div2 = document.createElement("div"); div2.setAttribute('class','QL'); div2.setAttribute('style','background-color: #692510;width: 200px;height: 500px;top: 2cm;position: absolute;right: 5px;z-index: 4;'); var links = document.createTextNode("where i want my links"); //now with that statement it just writes text, ive tried document.write and many other methods and nothing seems to work. div2.appendChild(links); //this just inserts the links into the div. body.appendChild(document.createElement('br')); body.appendChild(div2); } QuickLinks(); Evening all. Here's a snippet: Code: canvases[i] = document.createElement('canvas'); canvases[i].style.width = '3px'; canvases[i].style.height = '100%'; canvases[i].getContext("2D"); canvases[i].fillRect(1,0,1,table_height); I'm trying to dynamically create a canvas element. Later in the script it gets attached to the DOM, and this works fine if the last two lines are missing. I end up with a canvas element that is 3px wide and 100% of the containing div tall. However, the last two lines make it crash, with the error report 'canvases[i].fillRect is not a function'. If I change the last two lines to Code: var drawing = canvases[i].getContext("2D"); drawing.fillRect(1,0,1,table_height); it says 'drawing is null'. Something seems to be going wrong with the getContext bit, because setting the height and width work fine. Any ideas? It behaves the same if I append the canvas element to the DOM before trying to do the drawing as well. This is in FF4.0.1 with a xhtml1-strict.dtd doctype and valid html. Thanks, Chris ok so I am trying to create a function that creates an array comprised of filenames based on a given range. I.E if 2-8 is selected and a foldername of UMCP/ and a common name of college is also given, the function should return and array such as [UMCP/college2.jpg,UMCP/college3.jpg.....UMCP/college8.jpg]. Here is what I've got but the alert that should tell me the filename of the first image says it is undefined, how can i fix this? Code: function getArrayPhotosNames (total, count, first, last) { /*window.alert("get Array Photo Names");*/ var folderName = document.getElementById("photofold").value; var Alias = document.getElementById("commonName").value; for (var i=0; i>=total; i+=1) { var imageNum = i+first; var filename = folderName + Alias + imageNum + ".jpg"; window.alert("image will be stored as"+filename); photosArrayGlobal[i]= filename; } window.alert("the first photo is" +photosArrayGlobal[0]); var countnum = count.value; if (count === 0) { window.alert("randomize time") var randomArray = photosArrayGlobal.sort( randomize() ); var randomPhoto= document.getElementById("myImage"); randomPhoto.setAttribute("src", randomArray[photoIndexGlobal]); } else { var firstPhoto=document.getElementById("myImage"); firstPhoto.setAttribute("src", photosArrayGlobal[photoIndexGlobal]) } } Hi Guys, I am new to this forum, based on the combobox value,I am creating a textboxes dynamically in jsp .Based on the count of textboxe's the textarea content comes with <value1> like this... Here i tried like this, <html> <head> <script> function copy_data(val,id,textareaValue){ var enteredText = val; alert("enteredText -----------"+enteredText); var boxId= id; alert("boxId-----------"+boxId); var textValue= textareaValue; alert("textValue-----------"+textValue); var beforeBrac = textValue.substring(0,textValue.indexOf("<")); alert("beforeBrac -----------"+beforeBrac ); var inbracket = textValue.substring(beforeBrac.length+1,textValue.indexOf(">")); alert("inbracket -----------"+inbracket); if(boxId = "1"){ inbracket = val; } alert("inbracket -----------"+inbracket); var afterBrac = textValue.substring(textValue.indexOf(">"),textValue.length); alert("afterBrac -----------"+afterBrac ); var fstr = beforeBrac +"<"+inbracket +afterBrac ; if(boxId == "1"){ document.getElementById('txtArea').value = fstr; alert("final str value is"+fstr); } } </script> </head> <body> <input type="text" name ="a" id="1" onkeyup="copy_data(this.value,this.id,document.getElementById('txtArea').value)"/> <input type="text" name ="a" id="2" onkeyup="copy_data(this.value,this.id, document.getElementById('txtArea').value)"/> <textarea rows="2" cols="20" id="txtArea"> At W3Schools you <will> find all <the> Web-building tutorials <you> need, from basic HTML to advanced <XML>, SQL, ASP, and PHP. </textarea> </body> </html> three text boxes with some value [ value1 ] [value2] [value3 ] this is the text area content:- At W3Schools you <will> find all <the> Web-building tutorials <you> need, from basic HTML to advanced XML, SQL, ASP, and PHP. the output should be :- At W3Schools you <value1> find all <value2> Web-building tutorials <value3 > need, from basic HTML to advanced XML, SQL, ASP, and PHP... But i can't get it exactly..When i enter or delete the value it should replaced in the proper <> correctly.. If i enter the value in 1st textbox it should replace the value 1st <>.same for others also...Any Idea's ?Plz suggest me ... Hi all, I have a set or icons that which over time I replace with a different icon and and add a onclick event to them. This is my code Code: function updateStatusIcons(retText) { updatingStatuses = true; var updates = retText.split("|"); for (z=0; z<updates.length; z++) { var sysId = trim(updates[z].split(":")[0]); var projectId = trim(updates[z].split(":")[1]); if (projectId != "") { var statusImg = getSysidsImg(sysId); statusImg.src = "images/tick.gif"; statusImg.className = "hand"; statusImg.title = "Project "+ projectId +" created, Click here to find in project search"; statusImg.onclick = function () { document.location = "projectSearch-FTTC.jsp?initAction=loadproject&projectId="+ projectId; }; // Remove sysid from csv removeSysidfFromCSL(sysId); } } if (pollingOn) { pollingupdate = setTimeout("checkForProjectComplete()", 5000); } updatingStatuses = false; if (runErrorFunction) { markErrors(); } } Everything works fine except for the onclick event. In the hover message of the icon, the correct project ID is displayed in the message, hoever in the function, the onclick funtion always loads the page with the last set project id. How can I pass the project id into the onclick function and make it stay fixed and not be the value of that it was last set to? TIA, Dale Hello! Im having problem generating the labels for content created by the following function: Code: function setOutput(){ if(httpObject.readyState == 4){ var answer = httpObject.resultsponseText.split(","); var results = document.getElementById("resultsultadosScan1"); var article = document.createElement("div"); var weight = document.createElement("div"); var price = document.createElement("div"); article.className = "article"; weight.className = "weight"; price.className = "price"; document.getElementById('outputText0').value = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[0]; document.getElementById('outputText1').value = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[1]; document.getElementById('outputText2').value = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[2]; article.innerHTML = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[0]; weight.innerHTML = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[1]; price.innerHTML = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[2]; results.appendChild(article); results.appendChild(weight); results.appendChild(price); } } A friend wrote this sample script to achieve generation of labels on my script, but I have been trying for hours with no luck, can someone take a look and tell me the correct usage of this script: Code: function createLabel() { var target = document.getElementById("target"); var label = document.createElement("label"); var text = document.createTextNode("Article"); label.appendChild(text); target.appendChild(label); } Can you help me with the correct "combination" using my script above, a "real life" example? Thanks a lot! Below is the code. My function: Code: function swap_content(id1,id2) { var tmp = document.getElementById(id1).name; var theval = document.getElementsByName('primary_propertyp_id')[0].value; document.getElementById(id1).name = document.getElementsByName('primary_propertyp_id')[0].name; document.getElementsByName('primary_propertyp_id')[0].name = tmp; document.getElementById(id2).id = document.getElementById('primary').id; document.getElementById('primary').id = 'addressid_'+theval+'_div'; } Applicable Code for primary info: Code: <div id="primary"> <label>primary to secondary:</label><input name="primary_propertyp_id" type="text" id="addressid_<? echo $row['primary_property_id']; ?>" value="<? echo $row['primary_property_id']; ?>"/> </div> Applicable Code for secondary info/link to change: Code: echo "<div id=\"addressid_" . $properties_row['id'] . "_div\">"; echo "<a href=\"#\" onclick=\"swap_content('addressid_" . $properties_row['id'] . "','addressid_" . $properties_row['id'] . "_div'); return false\">Make Primary</a>"; echo "<input id=\"addressid_" . $properties_row['id'] . "\" name=\"addressids[]\" value=\"" . $properties_row['id'] . "\" type=\"text\">"; echo "</div>"; This is running through a PHP loop so it's making multiple divs and links for the secondaries. I am wanting to be able to swap out any of them to make them 'primary'....this works for the first click, but after the first click it makes every div id and input name the same as the first that was clicked. It's also not working AT all if i click on the bottom link first, then a link above it. Top-down works, bottom-up doesn't...Please help Thanks in advance, Jeremy I have here a code that will automatically generate two text fields (Title & Price) when "Add another article" is pressed. I got this from the web, but I want instead of using a text field, I want it to create a drop down menu based on a mysql table, then update the price automatically (also based on the mysql table) on the other text field once a selection has been made on the drop down menu. Code: <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" /> <style type="text/css"></style> <script type="text/javascript"> var elCount = 2; function add() { var parent = document.getElementById('parent'); var article = document.createElement('DIV'); article.id = 'article_' + elCount; article.name = 'article_' + elCount; // NEW LINE var article_title_label = document.createElement('LABEL'); article_title_label.appendChild(document.createTextNode('Title ' + elCount + ': ')); var article_title_text = document.createElement('INPUT'); article_title_text.id = 'article_' + elCount + '_title'; article_title_text.name = 'article_' + elCount + '_title'; // NEW LINE var article_textarea_label = document.createElement('LABEL'); article_textarea_label.appendChild(document.createTextNode('Price ' + elCount + ': ')); var article_textarea = document.createElement('INPUT'); article_textarea.id = 'article_' + elCount + '_price'; article_textarea.name = 'article_' + elCount + '_price'; // NEW LINE article.appendChild(article_title_label); article.appendChild(article_title_text); article.appendChild(article_textarea_label); article.appendChild(article_textarea); parent.appendChild(article); elCount++; } </script> <body> <div id="parent"> <div id="article_1"> <label for="article_1_title">Title 1: </label><input type="text" name="article_1_title" id="article_1_title" /> <label for="article_1_price">Price: </label><input type="text" name="article_1_price" id="article_1_price" /> </div> </div> any ideas? Thanks I'm a true newbie when it comes to JavaScript. To learn the language, I've set up a project for myself, a sort of board game. As it is, I have a series of divs, each with an image (img tag). The divs ids are "Space1", "Space2", "Space3", etc. I am trying to dynamically create child divs inside the space divs as player markers. Here is the code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> for(intA=0;intA<=10;intA++){ var NewDiv=document.createElement("div") NewDiv.setAttribute("id","Space"+intA+"Player1") NewDiv.style.width="20px";NewDiv.style.height="20px" NewDiv.style.position="relative" NewDiv.style.left="10px";NewDiv.style.top="10px" NewDiv.innerHTML="1" NewDiv.style.backgroundColor="#333333" NewDiv.style.border="2px solid black" NewDiv.style.visibility="visible" NewDiv.style.zIndex="1000" document.getElementById("Space"+intA).appendChild(NewDiv) } </script> The assumption is that this code should make a 20x20 gray box with a "1" in it. I've tried playing with the visibility and the z-index, but nothing is showing up. What am I doing wrong here? Hi all I have a form with one or more DIV elements inside it. When I try to count form elements I get result=0? How is this possible? See the example: Code: <html> <head> <script language="javascript"> function Count() { alert(document.frm1.elements.length); for(i=0; i<document.frm1.elements.length; i++) { alert(document.frm1.elements[i].name); } } </script> </head> <body> <form id="frm1" name="frm1"> <div id="div1" name="div1">.</div> </form> <input type="button" onclick="Count();" /> </body> </html> If I put other element (textbox) inside the form, the count result is correct. Is DIV not an element?! How can I count one or more DIV and inner DIV's? Thanks for your help. Z. (I also posted this on stackoverflow, but haven't had any replies.) I have a script that sends a POST to a php file, and gets a new integer (primary key). Then the script creates 3 new divs, with that ID included in them as an attribute. Now, I need to be able to grab the ID and give it back to PHP when the user updates it. (It's currently a div, but later it will be an editable form.) I was going to do this by creating a button in the same script that I use to create the divs, bearing the same integer and calling a function. The problem with this concept, is that I have no idea how to create a Unique variable to pass along to the function, so it knows which number to look at. Obviously, if I have only one variable that gets overwritten with each new entry - after all of the rows load, only the last row will have a variable that matches its id. Another option is to find the value of all attributes that bear the name data-integer-question and pass its number/integer to a function, when the user does something like keyup enter. However, I have no idea how to do that. obj.returnIntJson holds the integer that I've been talking about, which changes for each row. rowNumberObj.qarowcontainer is just a reference for the parent div, which doesn't get edited by the user - you can ignore it. The script gives a result like this: <div id="questioncolumn" class="questionColumnCSS" data-integer-question="701"></div> Suggestions on how to proceed? Here's the code for one of the divs, Thanks. PHP Code: qaRowQuestion = document.createElement('div'); qaRowQuestion.setAttribute('id', "questioncolumn"); qaRowQuestion.setAttribute('data-integer-question', obj.returnIntJson); qaRowQuestion.setAttribute('class',"questionColumnCSS"); qaRowQuestionParent = document.getElementById(rowNumberObj.qarowcontainer); qaRowQuestionParent.appendChild(qaRowQuestion); My issue is that I have a javascript function applied on page load via an addLoadEvent function call in the head to every row (dynamic number of records retrieved) on a table. On every row of the table I also have an element (image or button) that performs a different function that is assigned on the element itself. Unfortunately, when I click the element it also performs the function that was applied to the row in the page load. Is there any way to not call this function on element click? I know usually you include code, but due to the nature of the work I am limited in that respect. Basically its: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> addLoadEvent(function() { function1(1); }) //function1 makes the table rows do something appearance wise. </script> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td> <img src="pics/delete.png" alt="Delete" onclick="function2();"> </td> </tr> I apologize if my post doesn't conform to the general guidelines of proper posting on this board. I'm new on this site. I need to loop the alphabet and numbers 0-9 to initialize a few thousand arrays. This is for my site and is truly needed. http://www.thefreemenu.com I currently have every array written out and it takes up to much space in my .js file. The majority of my variables are empty but necessary and need to be there (including empty) for my site to work properly. Question is the last part Here's where I'm at. Code: var NewVarLetterOrNum = "a"; eval("_oneofseveralnames_" + NewVarLetterOrNum + "='this part works';"); alert(_oneofseveralnames_a); This creates the variable _oneofseveralnames_a='this part works' Code: var newArrayLetterOrNum = "a"; eval("_oneofseveralnames_" + newArrayLetterOrNum + "= new Array();"); alert(_oneofseveralnames_a) This creates the Array _oneofseveralnames_a=new Array(); and all the values in the array are null, but, now a variable like _nl_a[1]='something' can be used elsewhere because the array exists. This is all that is necessary for now because I can probably set all the variables to be blank with something like Code: i=1 while(i<=20){ _oneofseveralnames_a[i]="1-20"; i++ } alert(_oneofseveralnames_[20]); So now you have what I came to understand in the first few hours. Now to the hard part : ( I can't make multiple array's dynamically. I dont' know if its because I don't understand loops or arrays or what and its very fustrating. As for any answer you might be so kind as to provide, if you could dumb it down that would be greatly appreciated. Code: var newArray =new Array('a','b','c','d','e','f','g','h','i','j','k','l','m','n','o','p','q','r','s','t','u','v','w','x','y','z') i=1 while(i<=26){ eval("_nl_" + newArray[i] + "= new Array();"); i++ } alert(newArray[1]) // Is b, but alert(_nl_b) //I can't get _nl_b to exist, I tried everything including taking away the quotes around the letters in every test */ var _nl_a =new Array() var _img_a =new Array() var _h_a =new Array() var _r_a =new Array() var _m_a =new Array() var _yt_a =new Array() var _i_a =new Array() The above arrays are all the array _name_ parts I need but for example, a has 10 parts, a,p2_a,p3_a,.. p10_a. I need 10 pages for each letter of the alphabet and numbers 0-9 and a special all1, p2_all1 ... p10_all1. Overall 2200 arrays that need to be declared. Currently they are all written out. /* I have a table that has a series of dropdowns. Each dropdown is build with JavaScript based on the values of the prior dropdowns. The data for each of these dropdowns comes from a series of XML files which are loaded into a series of arrays on loading. This is all working. What I need (but can't figure out) is how to dynamically build a sub-table within a specific cell of the parent table based on the values of the prior dropdowns and if the prior dropdowns are changed, how do delete (not just hide) the dynamic table and rebuild it based on the values of the new dropdowns. Hi there, so i am working on a website, and on it there is a video with youtube api. I need to hide all Table-rows that are not during each 5 second time frame. So for example, when it is at 0:36, it will hide all TR's besides the TR that has to do with the video between 0:35 and 0:40. Each TR displays a start time, content, and end time. Here is what the tables currently look like. Hello, I want to add rows and columns on click. So, i have a table with columns and rows and I had a add and remove button. So I want the user to be able to add/remove more rows if they have multiple inputs/outputs. So what I want is when the user clicks on add.png, I want another row of Input and Description to appear underneath the current one. Here is my code.. Code: <img src="images/add.png" width="15" height="15" align="right" > <div class="open"> <table width="200" border="0"> <tr> <td class="propertyCol">Input: </th> <td class="propertyCol"><input class="text ui-widget-content ui-corner-all" value="" style="width:210px"></input></th> <td class="propertyCol">Description: </th> <td class="propertyCol"><textarea name="" cols="45" rows="1" class="text ui-widget-content ui-corner-all"></textarea> </th> <td class="propertyCol"><a href="javascript:removeElement();" ><img src="images/remove.png" alt="" width="15" height="15" /></a> </th> </tr> </table> <table width="200" border="0"> <tr> <td class="propertyCol">Output: </th> <td class="propertyCol"><input class="text ui-widget-content ui-corner-all" style="width:200px"></input></th> <td class="propertyCol">Description: </th> <td class="propertyCol"><textarea name="" cols="45" rows="1" class="text ui-widget-content ui-corner-all"></textarea> </th> <td class="propertyCol"><a href="javascript:removeElement();" ><img src="images/remove.png" alt="" width="15" height="15" /></a> </th> </tr> </table> </div i have a table with a couple random numbers, and i want to click a button that will dynamically regenerate the numbers each time the button is clicked without re-generating the entire table., im using DOM and innerhtml for these random numbers. heres the javascript and html code. so far, it just generates the random numbers when the page loads. var random = Math.floor(Math.random()*40 + 1) //sets variables for random numbers to generate var random2 = Math.floor(Math.random()*40 + 1) var random3 = Math.floor(Math.random()*40 + 1) var random4 = Math.floor(Math.random()*40 + 1) var random5 = Math.floor(Math.random()*40 + 1) var random6 = Math.floor(Math.random()*40 + 1) //create table function makeTable(lotto) document.getElementById("tableSpan").innerHTML = '<table border="1" id="lotto">'; var caption=document.getElementById('lotto').createCaption(); caption.innerHTML="JavaScript Random Numbers"; var x=document.getElementById('lotto').insertRow(0); var cell1=x.insertCell(0); var cell2=x.insertCell(1); var cell3=x.insertCell(2); var cell4=x.insertCell(3); var cell5=x.insertCell(4); var cell6=x.insertCell(5); cell1.innerHTML='<td class = "normal">'+ random +'</td>'; cell2.innerHTML='<td class = "normal">'+ random2 +'</td>'; cell3.innerHTML='<td class = "normal">'+ random3 +'</td>'; cell4.innerHTML='<td class = "normal">'+ random4 +'</td>'; cell5.innerHTML='<td class = "normal">'+ random5 +'</td>'; cell6.innerHTML='<td class = "red">'+ random6 +'</td>'; } heres the HTML file: <body onload="makeTable('lotto');"> <div id="container"> <div id="header"> <h1>Welcome</h1> </div> <div id="content"> <span id="tableSpan"></span> <input type="button" value="Re-generate Numbers" onclick="makeTable('lotto');" /> </div> { Hi all, I have a problem in javascript , ajax and jsp. Please see this url http://xil.co.in/print_screen_2.JPG. I am working on this form. There are sum buttons (like submit , add ,edit at bottom of this page , but not visible in printscreen). On click of a radio button on left side , form fields on right side and small table on right bottom is gettig populated. The table on right bottom , is actually the eligibility criteria associated with the record whose radio was clicked on left . On clicking radio of this record(right side) , I want to populate its values in the above text boxes present right in front of text "Eligibility". During the whole click process (clicking the left and right radio button ) page should not get refreshed. I am able to show records on left side by iterating over a resultset (in jsp) and able to populate field on right side also, but have no idea how to populate table on right bottom dynamically such that I can handle onclick event on its radio button. Pls tell me how to achieve this. Thanks in advance for any help. |
