JavaScript - Why Do I Get The Error "... Is Not A Function" Here?
Hey guys,
I got this line of code: Code: var headlines = document.getElementById("navigation").getElementsByTagName("ul").getElementsByTagName("li").getElementsByTagName("span"); My debugger gives me this error: "document.getElementById("navigation").getElementsByTagName("ul").getElementsByTagName is not a function". What am I doing wrong, and how do I fix it? (Background: As a school assignment I'm trying to do an expandable menu, and my idea is to run a for-loop, making every element in the array 'headlines' respond to onclick.) Similar TutorialsFirst post here so... I have a few functions called by a form. Two examples are onclick in a form input and onkeyup in a form button. Code: function checkUsernameForLength(whatYouTyped) { var fieldset = whatYouTyped.parentNode; var txt = whatYouTyped.value; if (txt.length > 2) { fieldset.className = "welldone"; return true; } else { fieldset.className = ""; return false; } } Code: onkeypress="checkUsernameForLength(this);" There are a couple of the above "validation" functions. Each sets an input fieldset's class. Code: function verifyit() { var fieldsets = document.getElementsByTagName("fieldset"); var i=0; while (i<count(fieldsets)){ if (fieldsets[i] != "") { i++; document.form.submit(); } } } Code: onclick="verifyit()" The function above is where I'm having the trouble. I want to iterate through the fieldsets and make sure each class isn't blank before allowing the button to submit the form. I get an "object expected" error when I trigger the "verifyit" function with ie if it helps. I appreciate any input, thanks in advance for any help. Hi everyone, I'm using a JavaScript to upload multiple files, namely this one: http://valums.com/ajax-upload/ The script has the ability to post additional parameters to the server, by calling the function setParams Code: var doktyp = "default"; var uploader = new qq.FileUploader({ element: document.getElementById('file-uploader-scope'), action: 'uploads.php', // additional data to send, name-value pairs debug: true, onSubmit: uploader.setParams ({ dateityp: getCheckedValue(document.forms['doktyp'].elements['dateityp']), comment: jQuery('#dateityp').val() }) }); Without the onSubmit: part the script works well and does as it's supposed to, but with it FireBug reports "uploader is undefined" und the script seizes to function. Now JavaScript istn't my strong suit, so I have been reading up on this for the last two hours, tried calling that function from a different place, tried to modify it, but no luck; the error remains the same (or slightly different; if I point at the class in question directly, the function doesnt work...). I would appreciate any advice you could give. I've been writing calculators with Javascript for over ten years and using the "to.Exponential" function for formatting and rounding. Recently, it is causing a problem for me. Here is a very shortened version of a calculator on which I am working: http://www.1728.com/count.htm This works fine for the first time it is activated but it doesn't work for the second (or any number of additional) times. (Keep clicking "calculate" and you'll see what I mean.) I didn't want to link to the original calculator (because of its size) but the "to.Exponential" function causes yet another problem in that one. When the count ('ct') is equal to five or six, the program stops working. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to manipulate a an image gallery that functions well. Now, I have the ability to pull information from a user's preference pannel and need to place it in the an href="" // And other information in each of the "src" | "url" | "alt". Any ideas would be truly helpful. This is what I am working with at the moment and it doesn't work (obviously because it is adding code inside a span). Here is what I am starting from: [CODE] var title01Span = document.getElementById('title01Span'), //Finds the id that I want prefs = new gadgets.Prefs(), // Pulls from the user's preferences yourtitle01 = prefs.getString("title01"); // Pulls the correct string from those preferences title01Span.innerHTML = yourtitle01; // replaces the span.id with that text but I need to be able to do this in the src / href / url / etc. [CODE] Thank you so much! I seriously could use as much help as possible! Hello, I run a online gaming website, and I'm having problems with certain websites iframing our games. Actually I'm ok with iframing, as long as they include the banner ad located just beneath our games. But often times unscrupulous webmasters will iframe only the game, preventing us from generating any revenue from the banner ad (and costing us additional bandwidth charges). I'm hoping to find a way to detect the dimensions of the iframe, so that I may dynamically resize the game, in order to include the banner ad within the iframe. Does anybody know how to extract the "height" and "width" attribute values from an <iframe> tag sitting on a different site? Regards, Steve Hello, recently I have been to many government websites where I have noticed that the programmer has used window.open() method in JavaScript to link to different pages instead of using <a> tags! I was just getting curious to know whether it is normal or has it been used due to security concerns(if any, I don't know)? Any comments? Hi all, I'm having a bit of a problem.. I need to disable the submit button on body onload, and i need to re-enable it when "i agree" is checked. the problem is, it wont do this.. it literally stays disabled, even after check mark.. code: Code: <html> <head><title>Metal Detecting</title></head> <body onload="disable()" oncontextmenu="return false;"> <script> function disable(){ if(document.forms.test.agree.checked == false){ document.forms.test.s1.disabled = true; } } function enable(){ if(document.forms.test.agree.checked == true){ document.forms.test.s1.disabled = false; } } function checkCheckBox(f) { if (f.agree.checked == false) { alert('You MUST agree to the terms by checking the box above.'); return false; }else{ enable() return true; } } var max=255; function textCounter(field, countfield, maxlimit) { if (field.value.length > maxlimit){ // if too long...trim it! field.value = field.value.substring(0, maxlimit); // otherwise, update 'characters left' counter }else{ countfield.value = maxlimit - field.value.length; } } function submitonce(theform){ //if IE 4+ or NS 6+ if (document.all||document.getElementById){ //screen thru every element in the form, and hunt down "submit" and "reset" for (i=0;i<theform.length;i++){ var tempobj=theform.elements[i] if(tempobj.type.toLowerCase()=="submit"||tempobj.type.toLowerCase()=="reset") //disable em tempobj.disabled=true } } } function checkdata(which) { var pass=true; var t1 = document.forms.test; for (i=0;i<which.length;i++) { var tempobj=which.elements[i]; if (tempobj.name.substring(0,8)=="required") { if (((tempobj.type=="text"||tempobj.type=="textarea")&& tempobj.value=='')||(tempobj.type.toString().charAt(0)=="s"&& tempobj.selectedIndex==0)) { pass=false; break; } } } if (!pass) { shortFieldName=tempobj.name.substring(8,30).toUpperCase(); alert("The "+shortFieldName+" field is a required field."); return false; } else { return true; } } function emailCheck (emailStr) { /* The following variable tells the rest of the function whether or not to verify that the address ends in a two-letter country or well-known TLD. 1 means check it, 0 means don't. */ var checkTLD=1; /* The following is the list of known TLDs that an e-mail address must end with. */ var knownDomsPat=/^(com|net|org|edu|int|mil|gov|arpa|biz|aero|name|coop|info|pro|museum)$/; /* The following pattern is used to check if the entered e-mail address fits the user@domain format. I know the function call works because when I place some code to display an image in SayHello function, it displays the image. It's suppose to be a pop up box that asks if the user really want to delete this record, if he clicks yes it redirects to delete it, but if not it doesn't do anything. Hi, My webpage can work normally in IE but not in Safari(e.g. when I clicked on some buttons like 'Delete' button, the page opened in Safari stays the same while it should delete the object chosen). When I tried debugging on Safari, after clicking the 'update' button, this message error appeared: "TypeError: Result of expression 'this.form.fireEvent' [undefined] is not a function". I believe this code makes the incompatability between the 2 browser: Code: function DeleteClick() { var frmSWO = document.getElementById("form"); var answer = confirm("Do you really want to delete?") if (answer != 0) { frmSWO.action = "/domsWeb/mtd/doms/web/operation/eDepotMNR/controller/manageWorkOrder/DeleteJobOrImage.do"; frmSWO.method = "post"; this.form.fireEvent('onsubmit'); frmSWO.submit(); } } Any suggest how should I amend the script for it to work on 2 browser concurrently? Thanks all! Strange problem here... I'm implementing google's JS tracking code verbatim which determines whether or not the current site is using HTTP or HTTPS. It builds a dynamic URL used as the "SRC" parameter in the SCRIPT statement. On browsers I'm testing with(FF, IE, Chrome) there's no problem running the code. However, there are some people in the office who get an FF or IE error (same versions as mine) on the URL as the SRC parameter. The error, in the FF Error Console, is this: Quote: illegal character http://www.google-analytics.com/ga.js ? ? ? ? --> question marks appear in console I can't figure it out since I can't create this error on any of my browsers. Could this be related to something like browser security settings or add-ons? Function to Read-In External "XML" datafiles on For Loop Can anyone help ? see: http://www.jcsweb.biz/mef/AnimGIF/XMLtemp_04c.htm for required output Javascript Function required: To read in 7 successive "XML" files (not pure XML format & held in "Gallery/Data" external dir in a For Loop: (US_SUMlev_2008.xml,US_SUMlev_2009.xml.....to US_SUMlev_2014.xml) These XML then succesively update a string variable "strXML" which forms the "data" populating a time-series chart. "strXML" then acts as the input to "setDataXML" which is the Chart's data update method (?) The sequential updating of "strXML" in a For Loop should the create a psuedo-animation effect in the chart. My code (see below in edited format or view source at above URL) will achieve what I want but the "strXML" variable update is currently HARD-CODED (rather than read from the XML files held in external directory "Gallery/Data" ). The required function will also need to strip out all linbreaks ("\n") from the external XML files in order to produce a single line of stringtext: eg HTML Code: Code: <chart animation='0' caption= 'Chart1' yAxisName=' % change' ><categories> <category label='2008' /> <category label='2009' /> <category label='2010' /> <category label='2011' /> <category label='2012' /> <category label='2013' /> <category label='2014' /></categories><dataset seriesName='zGDP_u' color='6600CC' renderAs='Column' dashed='1'><set value='0.000000' /></dataset><dataset seriesName='zCPI_u' color='0000DC' renderAs='Line' ><set value='0.000000' /></dataset><dataset seriesName='ERIb_u' color='FFAA26' renderAs='Line' ><set value='0.000000' /></dataset><dataset seriesName='RSH_u' color='FF0066' renderAs='Line' ><set value='0.000000' /></dataset><dataset seriesName='zER_u' color='00FF00' renderAs='Line' ><set value='0.000000' /></dataset></chart> The sequential updating of "strXML" is also NOT yet done in a For Loop but a fixed timing Animate() function which successivley activates the generateXML_200?() on a timedelay. Summary: Required Runstream in Function For Loop: Loop1: Read-in "Gallery/Data/US_SUMlev_2008.xml", strip out "\n", update strXML (& thus setDataXML) & update chart1 Loop2: Read-in "Gallery/Data/US_SUMlev_2009.xml", strip out "\n", update strXML (& thus setDataXML) & update chart1 etc etc until Loop7: Read-in "Gallery/Data/US_SUMlev_2014.xml", strip out "\n", update strXML (& thus setDataXML) & update chart1 If there was a way to "Freeze" and "Restart" this above function (ie pause the read-in of the next XML) as in current code that would be mighty fine too. Gives an alert of s together with 'found' or 'not found' as for find1C. [Note that the search should be case insensitive so that 'lboro' and 'Lboro' and 'LBORO' would all be found in 'www.lboro.ac.uk' - all remaining functions should also be case insensitive in this way] Example call: findAnyU("Lboro") Example result: "Lboro" found MY CODING... var pages = [ "[www.lboro.ac.uk] Loughborough University offers degree programmes and world class research.", "[www.XXXX.ac.uk] Loughborough University offers degree programmes and world class research. I'm completely stumbled by this as i have no clue as what might be wrong. But then again , my experience is extremely limited Hi I am trying to load html stream directly into webbrowser in delphi. The html contains java script. It loads xml and xsl files and display the xml content in the web browser. I got an error, says access denied for the command xmlDoc.load(fname); If I save the html into a file, test.html, and double click it, it is fine, no problem. The code is actually copied from w3schools.com. the html code as followed: <html> <head> <script> function loadXMLDoc(fname){var xmlDoc; if (window.ActiveXObject) { xmlDoc=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM"); } else { alert('Your browser cannot handle this script'); } xmlDoc.async=false; xmlDoc.load(fname); return(xmlDoc); } function displayResult() { xml=loadXMLDoc("catalog.xml"); xsl=loadXMLDoc("catalog.xsl"); if (window.ActiveXObject) { ex=xml.transformNode(xsl); document.getElementById("example").innerHTML=ex; } } </script> </head> <body id="example" onLoad="displayResult()"> </body> </html> The delphi code is procedure TForm1.WBLoadHTML(WebBrowser: TWebBrowser; HTMLCode: string) ; var v: OleVariant; HTMLDocument: IHTMLDocument2; begin memo1.Lines.LoadFromFile('d:\test\htmltxtold.html'); HTMLCode := memo1.Text; WebBrowser1.Navigate('about:blank') ; HTMLDocument := WebBrowser.Document as IHTMLDocument2; v := VarArrayCreate([0, 0], varVariant); v[0] := HTMLCode; HTMLDocument.Write(PSafeArray(TVarData(v).VArray)); HTMLDocument.Close; end; Thanks a lot |
