JavaScript - Using A Search Form To Display Hidden Divs On A New Page
Hello all, hope all is well. I have a search function that displays hidden divs based on what the user has searched for. I would like the "search results" to be opened onto a new page; I have a feeling the results page would contain all the hidden divs and a form of JS would need to be used to "pass" the search data to the new page and thus perform the search and display the corresponding div. - Any help is appreciated here code and demo site below.

Here is one of the hidden fields that gives the page to redirect to after submitting the form: Code: <input type="hidden" name="rtrn" value="http://www.domain.com/thanks.html" target="_parent"> The parent target doesn't work, does anyone know how I get the thanks page to replace the page containing the iframe? Hi all - first post - I'm not too hot on javascript so I don't know if this can be done nor how to search for it in the forum because I don't know what keywords to use - but if I give an idea of what I want to do, perhaps someone can suggest an idea of how to proceed? I have two left floated divs - in the left div I want a series of drop downs (possibly check boxes as well) about a series of products. When the user makes their decision and presses submit, I want the form to submit to a javascript function that says "Right, you will need, from your responses, product C" and in the right hand floated div, a series of hidden product info divs whose visibility is changed depending on which product the function determines is the one for you. Broken down into parts I think I need to do the following: a) Standard HTML form with drop downs etc and submit b) Hidden divs c) Submission process locally to javascript function to determine which product to show/hide d) Javascript function that makes the decision e) Javascript that hides/shows products Unfortunately a server side option is not available; it has to be a client side solution and I only could think of javascript. I can probably handle all bar c) and d) - any pointers, help or suggestions would be great thanks! cheers frank I would like to think I understand the fundamentals of JavaScript, but I am beating my head with this and it seems so simple. I am trying to set the current div as visible, then set the old div as not visible, then set the new div id as a variable so that it can be used next. all it is doing is setting the new div to visible, and not setting the variable to be used. here is my code. this is the function [code] var Gp; function setVisibility(id, visibility) { document.getElementById(id).style.display = visibility; document.getElementById(Gp).style.display = 'none'; Gp = id; } [code] this is the html [code] <div id="group_thumb"><a href="http://pinklightdesign.com/gallery/content/6389/thumb2.jpg" onclick="setVisibility('img_name1', 'inline');" rel="enlargeimage" rev="targetdiv:loopholder, trigger:click"><img src="http://pinklightdesign.com/gallery/content/6389/thumb1.jpg" width=68 height=90 /></a></div> <div id="group_thumb"><a href="http://pinklightdesign.com/gallery/content/6396/thumb2.jpg" onclick="setVisibility('img_name2', 'inline');" rel="enlargeimage" rev="targetdiv:loopholder, trigger:click"><img src="http://pinklightdesign.com/gallery/content/6396/thumb1.jpg" width=68 height=90 /></a></div> <div id="group_thumb"><a href="http://pinklightdesign.com/gallery/content/6403/thumb2.jpg" onclick="setVisibility('img_name3', 'inline');" rel="enlargeimage" rev="targetdiv:loopholder, trigger:click"> <div id='img_name1' style='display:none'>new 1 image</div> <div id='img_name2' style='display:none'>new image 2</div> <div id='img_name3' style='display:none'>new 1 image 3</div> [code] Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers - James Hi everyone, was wondering if someone would be able to help me out, and correct this, or suggest an alternative. I have hidden divs, and I have achieved easily and simply this with the following, but on click I want the other divs to hide so that they all can't be displayed at once, at the moment they just stack up on top of each other. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible as i'm much the novice Code: <script> function showhide(id){ if (document.getElementById){ obj = document.getElementById(id); if (obj.style.display == "none"){ obj.style.display = ""; } else { obj.style.display = "none"; } } } } </script> and then <a href="#" onclick="showhide('divname'); return(false);"> Thanks in advance Hi I found this code from here http://www.dynamicdrive.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=35776 And cant seem to get it to work. Below is my code and most probably wrong but for me it seems logic. Please assist. Order Form: Code: <td colspan="1" height="120" align="left"> <select style="margin-left: 60px; background-color: #00FF77;" name="prod_bed_359" onchange="calculateValue(this.form)"> <option value="0">0</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> </select> R359</td></tr> New page I called a unction to print: Code: function itemsOrdered() { var beds = document.forms[2].prod_bed_359.value; document.write("<pre><strong>Description\t\tQuantity\tPrice</strong></pre>"); document.write("<pre>Doggie Bed\t\t" + beds + "</pre>"); } This is still basic as I need to get this right before adding the prices and totals which is also extracted from the order page. I have another crossbrowser problem - using frames. I am trying to make this hidden right frame appear where it should in other browsers such as Firefox. It only works in IE at the moment. This is a cut down demo: http://www.aapress.com.au/demo/readt.../readtest.html It consists of a number of parts: readtest.html left.html rightframe.html right.html top.html The rightframe.html is the holder for right.html. I am not trying to simplify it, just make the right.html page appear in the rightframe.html in FF. I suspect it has something to do with the coding at the bottom of rightframe.html: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function test() { testframe.internalid.innerHTML = maindiv.innerHTML; } window.setTimeout("test()", 1000); </script> Is it obvious? I dont claim any of the JS below as my own. link to an example page http://www.clansngamers.com/add_new_game.php You see the PS3 checkbox is standard: Working, It brings up the hidden div. The Xbox checkbox is coded exactly the same except it uses the custom checkbox image and it dont work. This is my problem. have tried to code this and failed asking for any help i suck at JS. The Code Im trying to add Code: function showMe(id){ var obj = document.getElementById(id); if (obj.style.display == "none"){obj.style.display = "inherit";} else {obj.style.display = "none";} } The basic layout Code: <input class="styled" name="foo" type="checkbox" id="foo" value="1" onclick="showMe('div1')" /> <input class="styled" name="bar" type="checkbox" id="bar" value="1" onclick="showMe('div2')" /> <div id='div1' style="display:none;">hidden content 1</div> <div id='div2' style="display:none;">hidden content 2</div> Custom Checkbox code Code: var checkboxHeight = "14"; var radioHeight = "14"; var selectWidth = "190"; document.write('<style type="text/css">input.styled { display: none; } select.styled { position: relative; width: ' + selectWidth + 'px; opacity: 0; filter: alpha(opacity=0); z-index: 5; } .disabled { opacity: 0.5; filter: alpha(opacity=50); }</style>'); var Custom = { init: function() { var inputs = document.getElementsByTagName("input"), span = Array(), textnode, option, active; for(a = 0; a < inputs.length; a++) { if((inputs[a].type == "checkbox" || inputs[a].type == "radio") && inputs[a].className == "styled") { span[a] = document.createElement("span"); span[a].className = inputs[a].type; if(inputs[a].checked == true) { if(inputs[a].type == "checkbox") { position = "0 -" + (checkboxHeight*2) + "px"; span[a].style.top = position; } else { position = "0 -" + (radioHeight*2) + "px"; span[a].style.backgroundPosition = position; } } inputs[a].parentNode.insertBefore(span[a], inputs[a]); inputs[a].onchange = Custom.clear; if(!inputs[a].getAttribute("disabled")) { span[a].onmousedown = Custom.pushed; span[a].onmouseup = Custom.check; } else { span[a].className = span[a].className += " disabled"; } } } inputs = document.getElementsByTagName("select"); for(a = 0; a < inputs.length; a++) { if(inputs[a].className == "styled") { option = inputs[a].getElementsByTagName("option"); active = option[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue; textnode = document.createTextNode(active); for(b = 0; b < option.length; b++) { if(option[b].selected == true) { textnode = document.createTextNode(option[b].childNodes[0].nodeValue); } } span[a] = document.createElement("span"); span[a].className = "select"; span[a].id = "select" + inputs[a].name; span[a].appendChild(textnode); inputs[a].parentNode.insertBefore(span[a], inputs[a]); if(!inputs[a].getAttribute("disabled")) { inputs[a].onchange = Custom.choose; } else { inputs[a].previousSibling.className = inputs[a].previousSibling.className += " disabled"; } } } document.onmouseup = Custom.clear; }, pushed: function() { element = this.nextSibling; if(element.checked == true && element.type == "checkbox") { this.style.backgroundPosition = "0 -" + checkboxHeight*3 + "px"; } else if(element.checked == true && element.type == "radio") { this.style.backgroundPosition = "0 -" + radioHeight*3 + "px"; } else if(element.checked != true && element.type == "checkbox") { this.style.backgroundPosition = "0 -" + checkboxHeight + "px"; } else { this.style.backgroundPosition = "0 -" + radioHeight + "px"; } }, check: function() { element = this.nextSibling; if(element.checked == true && element.type == "checkbox") { this.style.backgroundPosition = "0 0"; element.checked = false; } else { if(element.type == "checkbox") { this.style.backgroundPosition = "0 -" + checkboxHeight*2 + "px"; } else { this.style.backgroundPosition = "0 -" + radioHeight*2 + "px"; group = this.nextSibling.name; inputs = document.getElementsByTagName("input"); for(a = 0; a < inputs.length; a++) { if(inputs[a].name == group && inputs[a] != this.nextSibling) { inputs[a].previousSibling.style.backgroundPosition = "0 0"; } } } element.checked = true; } }, clear: function() { inputs = document.getElementsByTagName("input"); for(var b = 0; b < inputs.length; b++) { if(inputs[b].type == "checkbox" && inputs[b].checked == true && inputs[b].className == "styled") { inputs[b].previousSibling.style.backgroundPosition = "0 -" + checkboxHeight*2 + "px"; } else if(inputs[b].type == "checkbox" && inputs[b].className == "styled") { inputs[b].previousSibling.style.backgroundPosition = "0 0"; } else if(inputs[b].type == "radio" && inputs[b].checked == true && inputs[b].className == "styled") { inputs[b].previousSibling.style.backgroundPosition = "0 -" + radioHeight*2 + "px"; } else if(inputs[b].type == "radio" && inputs[b].className == "styled") { inputs[b].previousSibling.style.backgroundPosition = "0 0"; } } }, choose: function() { option = this.getElementsByTagName("option"); for(d = 0; d < option.length; d++) { if(option[d].selected == true) { document.getElementById("select" + this.name).childNodes[0].nodeValue = option[d].childNodes[0].nodeValue; } } } } window.onload = Custom.init; Hi all, Only recently started, self-teaching, html and Java in order to get a project idea of mine up and running. First barrier I've come across is trying to sort out a drop down with search button that will then reveal the connected hidden div, I've mangled together some code from a couple of sources with what I've learnt, but not really sure how to tie in the "Search" button to the showDiv(divname) function. Wondering if anyone could help out. Many thanks in advance Code: <head> <title>Untitled</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="stylesheet.css" /> <script type="text/javascript"><!-- var lastDiv = ""; function showDiv(divname) { if (lastDiv) { document.getElementById(lastDiv).className = "hiddenDiv"; } if (divName && document.getElementById(divName)) { document.getElementById(divName).className = "visibleDiv"; lastDiv = divName; } } </script> </head> <body> <h1> <form name="form" > <select name="select"> <option selected>Choose <option value="one"> one <option value="two"> two <option value="other"> other </select> <input type="button" value="Search" onClick="showDiv(this.value)"> </form> </h1></br> <h2> Results: <p id="one" class="hiddenDiv">one</p> <p id="two" class="hiddenDiv">two</p> <p id="other" class="hiddenDiv">other</p> </h2> </body> </html> From my stylesheet: Code: .hiddenDiv { display: none; } .visibleDiv { display: block; } I have a hidden field whose value is a text string, "xyz". I want to write the value to the page so that the user can see it but not edit it. Can't I just use document.write(form.field.value)? Why isn't it working?
Hi, i will try to be as brief as possible. I have a page A with form: Code: <form id="search" action="find.html" method="get"> ... (some select options) ... <input type="submit" class="submit" value="search"> this form look up some holiday destination which appears on this page with url: (example) Code: www.domain.com/find.html?destination=italy&price=500 Now, I dont want to display result on this page, but on page B, in iframe. I found a way how to redirect output as a link to properly show in iframe on page B. Page A contains: Code: <a href="pageb.html?http://www.domain.com/find.html?destination=italy&price=500">show on page B</a><br> Page B contains: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function loadIframe(){ if (location.search.length > 0){ url = unescape(location.search.substring(1)) window.frames["iframe"].location=url } } onload=loadIframe //--> </script> <iframe src="" name="iframe" id="iframe"</iframe> In this case page B will properly load requested link in iframe. Problem is it is just a static link... I want to display search result from the form. Thanks a lot for your help... I have a display hidden div code that works great, as seen: Code: <a href="javascript:InsertContent('login-popdown');>Login</a> but the problem is that when I put this in a PHP echo, like so PHP Code: // retrieve the session information $u = $_SESSION['username']; $uid = $_SESSION['loginid']; // display the user box echo " <span class='toplinks'><a href='javascript:InsertContent('login-popdown');'>Log In</a> - <a href='http://www.tomhilsee.com/ipool/system/register.php'>Register</a></span>"; the javascript does not work because the ' interferes I'm assuming. So is there a way to accomplish the show/hide without using some sort of code that would interfere with the php echo? I have a form with three fields. When the user changes the value of field1, the form displays either field2 or field3. This works fine for NEW records. However, I'm running into a problem when trying to EDIT an existing record. When the form is loaded, I need to test the value of field1 and display either field2 or field3. I've tried using the form onload event, but do not know how to access the value of field1. I'm using Javascript and div tags. This is what I have so far. <script type="text/javascript"> function hide(obj) obj1 = document.getElementById(obj); obj1.style.display = 'none'; } function show(obj) { obj1 = document.getElementById(obj); obj1.style.display = 'block'; } function show_other(optionValue) { if(optionValue=='C') { show('divClass');} else{hide('divClass'); } if(optionValue=='W') { show('divWorkshop');} else{hide('divWorkshop'); } } </script> /* Field1 - is a drop down list */ <select name="ClassType" size="1" onchange="show_other(this.value)"> ... </select> /* Field2 */ <div id="divClass"> ... </div> /* Field 3 */ <div id="divWorkshop"> ... </div> Appreciate any assistance. Thanks Peter I'm having a problem using javascript with a form. I'm using javascript to determine whether or not a person has selected "yes" or "no" from the select list. If "yes" is selected, the form is supposed to slide down and reveal two more fields. If "no" is selected, the form is supposed to slide back up hiding those two fields again. When "yes" is selected, the form displays the two new fields properly. In Safari, it does the slideDown animation, yet in Firefox, the new form fields just suddenly display. If I select "no" again, nothing happens. The slideUp animation doesn't play. So currently I am having to use $("#parent1").hide(); to get the "no" to trigger. So my two questions a 1. Code: <body> <label id="Label1">ADMINISTRATOR CONSOLE - ADD AND EDIT ASSETS<br /> </label> <form action="" method="post" style="border-style: ridge; width: 311px; height: 37px;" name="myform"> <table> <tr> <td>Select Category:</td><td> <select name="category" onchange="set_sub_category()" style="width: 157px"> <option selected="selected" value="select">Select an Option</option> <option value="add">Add Category</option> <option value="district">Council District</option> <option value="region">Region</option> <option value="pom">POM</option> <option value="proptype">Property Type</option> <option value="assetcat">Asset Category</option> <option value="assettype">Asset Type</option> <option value="property">Property</option> <option value="asset">Asset</option> </select> </td> </tr> </table> </form> <form style="display:none" action= "admin_console_new.html" onsubmit="return (validate_form(this)& validate_list(this))" method="post" style="border-style: ridge; border-width: medium; height: 154px; width: 346px;" name="district"> <table style="height: 86px"> <tr> <td>Select District Value:</td><td> <select name="district"> <option selected="selected">Select an Option</option> <option>Add Council District</option> </select> </td> </tr><tr> <td>Enter District Name:</td><td> <input name="name" type="text"/> </td> </tr><tr> <td>Enter Description:</td><td><textarea name="description"></textarea> </td> </tr><tr> <td><input type="submit" value="Submit" name="Submit3" /><input type="reset" value="Reset" /> </td> </tr> </table> </form> I'm a long time lurker on here just barely created an account to ask this question. I work at a call center, and we use different webapps to fill out tickets. One I've used for a long time allows dynamically updating forms with javascript. I have a whole bunch of bookmarked javascript injections like: Code: javascript:if((top.detail.findObj('X31').value="Inquiry")!=""); That code will fill out most everything in that ticket, leaving me to fill in the details. I have one of those for all of the most common tickets, and can create and finish a ticket in less than 30 seconds when it takes others 3-4 minutes. I recently switched to a different system and I'm having trouble with my code. I'm a noob at javascript for sure, but I'm not new to programming. Anyway any pointers would be nice. The system we use doesn't allow me to see the source... I'm not sure how to explain it. It loads everything in a frame. In chrome I can right click then inspect element and get the ID but it the above javascript doesn't work. Examples: Old app source ex: Code: <label for="X31">Category:</label> was all i needed new app(before the body code is just code for the login form, etc): Code: <body onLoad="startit()" onUnload="stopit()"> </body> <div align="center" valign="center" id="LoadMessageID" style="position: relative; top:40%; color:#0069A5; font-size:100% ;"> <img src="/arsys/shared/images/Progress_NonModal-circle.gif" alt="wait image"/> Loading... </div> </html> formloader: Code: <form name="form1" action="/arsys/forms/bmcitsm/HPD:Incident+Management+Console/Default+User+View+(Support)/?cacheid=a22a36a8" method="post"> example of inspect element in chrome (something i want to change with javascript injection): Code: <input id="arid301602600" type="text" class="text " style="top:0; left:0; width:225; height:21;" readonly=""> hello, i have a form in my header that is hidden and i have it show when you click a link, the problem is, when the form appears, it pushes everything down below it, any ideas on how to get around this?
I dynamically create a hidden form field with some javascript. It works fine, the field gets created and filled in with whatever the user types in the prompt popup. But even though I have specified type="hidden" it is still displaying the field contents at the bottom of my form. Code: var newvar = document.createElement('input'); newvar.setAttribute('name',varname); newvar.setAttribute('type','hidden'); newvar.setAttribute('value',Prompt.show("Enter notes")); document.mainform.appendChild(newvar); Thanks for any help |
