Hello. I've been teaching myself HTML and CSS for a while, and now I've moved into the world of Javascript (but I'm still very much a beginner). For practice, I've been building a sample sign up form for a mock website, and I'm having problems with the birthdate section. The idea I had was to have MM, DD, and YYYY be the default values of my 3 textboxes (as an example for users), then set the value to nothing when the box gained focus. That all works fine, but I ran into problems when I tried to write an if statement to set the value back to MM, DD, or YYYY if the value was still nothing when the user clicked away. As it is now it just replaces the text inputted into the textbox (which of course is not good). Any ideas for what the problem might be? Another side question, if I set a variable equal to the value of a textbox, then change the value of the variable, does that also change the value of the textbox? or is the variable no longer associated with the textbox. As you see the cursor goes back to the beginning of the field if you focus on the URL field. It works with no problem in other browsers. How can it be corrected? This is just a goofy little project to add to my learning, but I've come across a problem that would be nice to solve. It is not a TinyMCE or other JS editor replacement, just something to play with for the holidays! In the following program, you can create an HTML template then add/modify common elements and display the results. I can place tags around highlighted areas and insert/append functions where the cursor is positioned. Works OK so far. The problem is when the text exceeds the <textarea> boundaries and I try to tag or insert at cursor, the display reverts to the first line of the <textarea> display. I would like to keep the displayed area within the boundaries and just push down the inserted text. Problem: Is there a simple way to accomplish this task or do I just have to put-up with the bouncy display whenever I insert code into the area? Code: <html>

But, in IE that sets the cursor the end of the last inserted tag and in FF the cursor moves at the end of the whole text in textarea. How can i set it ine between the tags(say ), after insert? Thanks. I have created a drag script and am having a problem with the cursor. When I hover over the div, the cursor becomes "move" as I want it to be. But if I click, then drag it changes to the I-beam cursor. I am wondering what I can do to get it to stay "move" or whatever I'd like it to be. I know things like onselectstart, etc, but that doesn't seem to do anything. Thanks for your time.
