Hi there, I want to prompt a user to enter their name, if the user entry includes numbers I would like to prompt them to re-enter their name using only text. I have tried: Code: var userName = prompt ("Please enter your name", " "); if (userName == null || !isNaN(userName)) { prompt ("Please enter a valid name, and do not include any numbers in this field"); userNamm.focus(); } else { document.write("Welcome back " +userName); } It isn't working, I would like to monitor the user entry for only text values, can anyone help me to clean this up? Hello, How would I seperate a text string such that it would appear on seperate lines ie. Initial Input: ------------------------------------------- StrMsg = "This is an example of a string that will appear on seperate lines" "Hoping that this fully works, there will be no errors and all will be well" "Thank you to the experts and pros on this forum who are here to help" "This is the last line of text." Expected Outcome: ------------------------------------------- This is an example of a string that will appear on seperate lines Hoping that this fully works, there will be no errors and all will be well Thank you to the experts and pros on this forum who are here to help This is the last line of text. Much thanks and appreciation for all your help J I am just starting to learn javascript and was hoping someone might be able to answer my question: var months = "April Showers"; document.write('<p><img src="ad11.jpg"); document.write(" alt="); document.write(months); document.write(">"); document.write(months); How come when I display my output to a browser without the presence of the ad11.jpg file, only the first word (April) in the text string "April Showers" is dispayed where the .jpg file is suppose to be...but the last line displays the entire text string. Hi, I am going to open a new window on my web page , and run one link (which is important for me to be run ), then close that window after some seconds, but I do not want this window be visible by users. This is the code I used, but when I add visible= none, the function does not work, and my link cannot be run. <button onclick="myFunction()">Click</button> <script type="text/javascript"> function myFunction() { var win = window.open("link", '1366002941508','width=x,height=y,left=xx,top=yy', visible=none); setTimeout(function () { win.close();}, ss); } </script> I really appreciate for your suggestion ) Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum, and in need of help. The code below sometimes works the way I want it to...by downloading a video from an external site and displaying a placeholder whenever the page loads. But most of the time, the video won't download and display until a user hovers their mouse over the blank area. Is it possible to modify the code so that it functions consistently by always downloading and displaying the placeholder when the page loads? I don't want users to think there's a missing/broken video because there's a blank space where the video is supposed to be, and they don't realize they have to mouse over it. I would be grateful for any pointers. I searched the forums for a solution, but I don't think I'm using the correct keywords. Thanks so much for your help. Is it posible to make the swf button invisible but still clickable and then have a background so it looks like its another button? or is there any other way to edit design for the button! I am creating a customized home page that can display regular links and login forms. I am adding Gmail login form into it. I can further customize it by putting multiple sign in buttons that can fill in username/password for different accounts before submitting. Here's the preview: http://imgur.com/s4Ert.jpg Now the problem is, in Gmail login form a hidden variable called "dsh" is filled with a value that is matched with server as well as a cookie, this value changes in some hours. So this means that I cannot create a complete offline form, but is it possible to load the login page hidden, and catch the value from it? I tried with an iframe with display:none and src="http://mail.google.com" but it opened in the top frame. Any other ideas? In short, what we need is, every time a page is opened from my computer, an online page should be open invisible from the user, and a hidden form value is to be fetched from it. Hi I discovered something weird that happend to me when trying to add a javascript created table to the document.body. Basically it doesn't add it in IE, but works fine in FF. Actually it does add it in IE, but only shows up if I add a <br/> later in a new statement... What?!?! try my code to see what is going on. (works fine in FF, does bad thing in IE) I tried to narrow the code i was working with down to basics and still have the glitch happen so maybe it's just something wrong with this code, but i couldn't pinpoint it. Also, it's only when i do document.body.appendChild(), not document.body.innerHTML += entireMassiveElement.innerHTML; I need it to work in both browsers with the appendChild() method, because innerHTML is much slower. Any advice appreciated! Thanks! } else { console.log("Issue occurred") } }, createMsg : function(){ var content = document.createTextNode("Please give additional information."), heading = document.createElement("h1"); heading.appendChild(content); document.body.appendChild(heading); }, removeMsg : function(){ } } document.getElementsByTagName('select')[0].onchange = function(){ menu.handleMenu(this.value)}; callback should be a string so why is it saying otherwise? Thanks for response Hello everyone. I'm new to programming, although I've learned HTML and CSS pretty thoroughly. I think I have most of the Javascript basics down as far as definitions, but I'm getting hung up on the actual coding. I'm working on an information request form for my fiancee's business site. In it, I want to have options that users select via radio buttons. Rather than having additional input fields static on the page, I would like to program some of the radios, when clicked, to open a previously unseen option where users will then be able to type in the necessary information. More specifically, since she only works in two states, I want a third option of "other," which, when opened, will allow the user to input any other state. Then, should the radio be deselected or reset, the field would disappear again. If my understanding is correct, I think I will need to use a javascript function in the header, an HTML "div" section with ID, "onclick" and "offclick" events in the button mark-up, and the specific javascript code to call the function (getElementById?). Or maybe I'm way off. Please help. Thanks As of right now I have a code that will work in IE but wont work in FireFox...go figure. Basically what I want to have happen is when you type in an area code it will provide an output in a predetermined area of the page. For Example: Input- 512 Output - Austin, TX The code that I have doesn't work with firefox and I was just wondering if there was a code that would allow that to happen. Thanks! Hi, I have a form with 9 text fields and a text area. What I want to do is replace the text in the text area depending on how many fields contain text. For example my text boxes are named 1 to 9, if the user enters text in the first five boxes I want the text area to auto fill with 'you have selected boxes 1 to 5' if the user selects all nine it will say 'you have selected 1 to 9', therefore, the user must complete the text boxes in order. I have it working with an onchange event but i have a button on the form to also auto fill the text boxes and it does not work if this is clicked. Any help would be appreciated! Hi all, Thanks for reading. I'm having an issue trying to accomplish the following - I have a text field (field1) already displayed on the HTML page. However, there's a link where you can add additional text fields to the page as well. When the link is clicked, the second text field is added successfully (field2), and when the link is clicked again, the third text field (field3) is added successfully. However, the third field does not add itself to the page, and the text for anything greater than a third field also isn't displayed after. This obviously means that my "fields" variable is not working right, so I'm wondering, would anyone be able to assist me to help me get that variable processing correctly? Code: <script language="javascript"> fields = 1; function addMore() { if (fields = 1) { document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "<input type='text' name='field2' size='25' /> <span>Field 2.</span>"; fields = 2; } else if (fields = 2) { document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "<input type='text' name='field3' size='25' /> <span>Field 3.</span>"; fields = 3; } else { document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "Only 3 fields are allowed."; document.form.add.disabled=true; } } </script> Here is the code in my HTML - Code: <input type="text" name="field1" size="25" /> <span>Field 1.</span> <div id="addedMore"></div> <p class="addMore"><form name="add"><a onclick="addMore()">Add another field.</a></form></p> Thank you very much. I have a 3 textareas that when the user presses the spacebar I would like for the code to execute a TAB to move between them instead. My code works if I make the replacement keycode an number or letter but it wont work if I use TAB. The browser is IE. Thank you for any help you can give. <script type="text/javascript"> function keycode(e) { if(e.keyCode==32) {return (e.keyCode=9);} } </script> </head> <body> <form> <input name="DefectNumber" id="DefectNumber" type="text" onkeypress="return keycode(event);"> <input name="DefectNumber2" id="DefectNumber2" type="text" onkeypress="return keycode(event);"> <input name="DefectNumber3" id="DefectNumber3" type="text" onkeypress="return keycode(event);"> </form> </body> Hi All, Firstly, apologies if this is already posted somewhere on the site. I did do a search of the forum, but could only find solutions for things link Perl scripts etc. What I have is a file upload input (as part of a larger form) and I want to get some javascript that will replace spaces in a filename with another character, such as an underscore or dash. If possible, I would also like to be able to replace commas with an underscore or dash. Hope someone here can help or point me to the right place! Neil If you look on the top right corner of the site I'm working on, the +1 button doesn't line up with the other social media icons. Why? http://customwovenlabels.com/ |
