JavaScript - Auto Start And Stop Functions At Varying Intervals
Hey guys,
I am new at JavaScript, but I have been able to piece together some code for a stopwatch. I have everything the way I want it in regards to the function and look of the stopwatch, but I want to be able to set timers so that the ss() function in the code below will go and stop automatically at intervals I can set. I just can't seem to get there with this one and any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Code: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <title>Test</title> <script type="text/javascript"> var t=[0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1]; document.onkeyup=function(event) { if((event.which && event.which === 32) || (event.keyCode && event.keyCode === 32)) { ss() } } function ss() { t[t[2]]=(new Date()).valueOf(); t[2]=1-t[2]; if (0==t[2]) { clearInterval(t[4]); t[3]+=t[1]-t[0]; t[4]=t[1]=t[0]=0; disp(); } else { t[4]=setInterval(disp, 43); } } function r() { if (t[2]) ss(); t[4]=t[3]=t[2]=t[1]=t[0]=0; disp(); t[7]=1; } function disp() { if (t[2]) t[1]=(new Date()).valueOf(); t[6].value=format(t[3]+t[1]-t[0]); } function format(ms) { var d=new Date(ms+t[5]).toString() .replace(/.*([0-9][0-9]:[0-9][0-9]:[0-9][0-9]).*/, '$1'); var x=String(ms%1000); while (x.length<3) x='0'+x; d+='.'+x; return d; } function load() { t[5]=new Date(1970, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0).valueOf(); t[6]=document.getElementById("disp"); disp(); } </script> </head> <body onload='load();'> <div></div> <input type="text" style="border: none" id="disp" readonly /> <style type="text/css"> #disp { font-size: 180px; text-align: center; font-family: Verdana; } </style> </body> <form> </form> </html> Similar TutorialsHi, I was wondering if there is anyone who could help me! I'm creating a Javascript slideshow, I have 'back' & 'next' functions which work. However, I'm not sure how to create a 'start' and 'stop' function (have to be separate functions), here is my current code below? Note also that both setTimeout and setInterval expect a function as their first parameter and not a string (except for IE3) and so the way you have it coded it has to eval() the string to convert it to a function. Also the language attribute on the script tag was replaced by a type attribute about 15 years ago. Also most browsers don't allow JavaScript to access window.status any more for security reasons. Jquery, Jcarousel problems - want it to go back to the start and then stop Here is the link - I want it to go from the last - which would be the 3rd image and swoosh back to the beginning and stop. my alternative is already uploaded where I have it just go to the 4th which is the same at the first.. Help it would look nicer with it swooshing back to the beginning and stopping. http://www.macrojump.com/sti_demo/home.php Code: $(document).ready( function() { function carouselInit(carousel) { $('.level0-hero-carousel .carousel-control a').bind('click', function() { carousel.scroll( parseInt( $(this).attr('rel') ) ); carousel.stopAuto(); return false; }); carousel.clip.hover(function() { //carousel.stopAuto(); }, function() { //carousel.startAuto(); }); }; function firstItemAction(carousel, item, idx, state) { $('.level0-hero-carousel .carousel-control a').removeClass('active').eq(idx-1).addClass('active'); }; $('.level0-hero-carousel').jcarousel({ scroll: 1, initCallback: carouselInit, itemFirstInCallback: firstItemAction, auto: 4, wrap: 'first', animation: 1500, buttonNextHTML: null, buttonPrevHTML: null }); if( $('.level0-hero-carousel ul li').size() > 1 ) $('.level0-hero-carousel .carousel-control').show(); $('.level0-hero-carousel .carousel-control a').hover(function() { $(this).addClass('hover'); }, function() { $(this).removeClass('hover'); }); /* Alerts */ $('.level0-alerts ul li').eq(0).show(); var alertsInterval = null; var alertsIndex = 0; var alertsIntervalLength = 1500; var alertsCount = $('.level0-alerts ul li').size(); var expandedSizeClass = 'level0-alerts-expanded-' + alertsCount; // Update NumAlerts Text $('.level0-alerts .alerts-toggle span').text( alertsCount + ' Alerts' ); $('.level0-alerts .alerts-controls .alerts-toggle').bind('click', function() { var itemsCount = $('.level0-alerts ul li').size(); if( $('.level0-alerts').hasClass('level0-alerts-expanded') ) { $('.level0-alerts').removeClass('level0-alerts-expanded'); $('.level0-alerts').removeClass(expandedSizeClass); switchAlert(); startAlertsInterval(); } else { $('.level0-alerts').addClass('level0-alerts-expanded'); $('.level0-alerts').addClass(expandedSizeClass); $('.level0-alerts ul li').show(); stopAlertsInterval(); } return false; }); var switchAlert = function() { $('.level0-alerts ul li').hide(); alertsIndex++; $('.level0-alerts ul li').eq(alertsIndex % alertsCount).show(); } var startAlertsInterval = function() { if(alertsInterval == null) alertsInterval = setInterval(switchAlert, alertsIntervalLength); } var stopAlertsInterval = function() { if(alertsInterval != null) { clearInterval(alertsInterval); alertsInterval = null; } } if(alertsCount > 1) { $('.level0-alerts .alerts-controls').show(); startAlertsInterval(); } }); /* * jQuery Placeholder Plug-in * * Copyright (c) 2010 Max Davis * * Dual licensed under the MIT and GPL licenses: * http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php * http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html * * Revision: 1 * Version: 0.1 * * v0.1 * - First public release * */ (function($){ $.fn.placeholder = function() { $(this).each( function() { if($(this).attr("type") == "password") { var original_pass_field = $(this); if(original_pass_field.val() == "") { $(this).parent().append("<input type=\"text\" value=\""+ $(this).attr("placeholder") +"\" name=\"pass_placeholder\" class=\"form-text placeholder-inactive\" id=\"pass_placeholder\">"); $(this).css("display","none"); } var original_pass_field = $(this); $("#pass_placeholder").focus(function() { if(original_pass_field.val() == "") { $("#pass_placeholder").css("display","none"); original_pass_field.css("display",""); original_pass_field.focus(); } }); original_pass_field.blur(function() { if(original_pass_field.val() == "") { $("#pass_placeholder").css("display",""); original_pass_field.css("display","none"); } }); } else { if($(this).val() === "") { $(this).val($(this).attr("placeholder")); $(this).addClass('placeholder-inactive'); } $(this).focus(function() { if($(this).val() === $(this).attr("placeholder")) { $(this).removeClass('placeholder-inactive').addClass('placeholder-active'); $(this).val(""); } }).blur(function() { if($(this).val() === "") { $(this).removeClass('placeholder-active').addClass('placeholder-inactive'); $(this).val($(this).attr("placeholder")); } }); } } ) } })(jQuery); Hey helpful people. I'm looking for a better solution to refreshing a page of mine, which currently single page (no frames) using meta refresh. To convert it something where it (using frames) would either: a. keep trying to refresh untill a var is recieved from the content, or b. present the browser with a button to refresh and a message that loading failed. But honestly i am a noob at javascript, to an extend i dont have much idea where to start on such a project. but learned this is not possible with regular html that is widely supported anyways. i suspect the:.. window.xx.location='url' ..is useful in this regard, but other than that i am blank on where to start. Any help is appresiated. Thanks in advance Jilli See slideshow at URL: http://backstageweb.net/1012Locust/ I want these slides to advance manually (on click only), not advance automatically. There are only two sample slides here. Click the play button to advance to Slide 2 (end of show). On Slide 2, it does not advance automatically. However, click the play button again (back to Slide 1, beginning of show). At this point, it automatically advances to Slide 2. Can someone please tell me how to get the slides to advance OnClick only? Thanks, John I'm attaching my php test file but this is a JS problem. When I scroll down in the web page and the meta refresh hits, in Windows Safari and IE6/7/8 browsers, the web page re-positions back to the top. In Opera and FF the page refreshes but it stays where it is. Can someone look at my test script and see why it is not working in IE and Win Safari? My goal is to have the web page not re-position to the top on the auto refresh. Thanks... Hello, i have a qustion that maybe has a very simple answer but i'm a beginner in working with scripts and i couldn't find it. i have the code below. so i have 5 time intervals but the thing that i couldn't do is to make that for saturdays to show only the 5th interval and hide the other ones. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tried clearing the interval with window.onunload and window.onbeforeunload. I'm thinking it has something to do with firefox not clearing its cache for the tab. After the user logs in, this area changes itself to a "Welcome Name, Lastname" field. I want that this cell displays again the username and password input fields in case of the session of the user has expired. I have tried it with the following code (within the Iframe in index.htm): ----------------------------------------- <script> if ("<%=session("LoginFirstName")%>" == "") { var m = " <p align="center"> <font style="font-size: 8pt; font-weight: 700" face="arial"> Username:</font> <span style="font-size: 1pt"> <input type="text" name="uid" id="uid" size="14" style="width: 65; height: 17; font-size: 8pt"></span><font face="arial" style="font-size: 8pt"> </font><font style="font-size: 8pt; font-weight: 700" face="arial">Password:</font><font face="arial" style="font-size: 8pt"> </font><span style="font-size: 1pt"> <input type="password" name="pwd" id="pwd" maxlength="10" size="14" style="width: 65; height: 17; font-size: 8pt"></span><span style="font-size: 1px"> </span> <input type="submit" value="Enter" name="B1" style="width: 35; height: 17; font-size:9px" onclick="return login()">"; window.parent.document.getElementById('memberarea').innerHTML=m; } </script> -------------------------------------------------- This code gives me the error that on the 12xx'the line (which does not exist-the whole code is 5xx lines). there is a ";" missing which I could not found. Hi all. I am having a problem understanding exactly how setInterval and setTimeout work and really need some help. I want to create an array and then print out each element one at a time at one second intervals. I've only been able to come up with something like this, but it just prints the last value of the array after a second. Code: <script type = "text/javascript"> <!-- var myArray = new Array(); for (var i = 0; i < 11; i++){ myArray[i]=i+50; } for (var i = 0; i < myArray.length-1; i++){ setInterval("document.getElementById('here').innerHTML = myArray[i];", 1000); } //--> </script> <div id="here">Stuff here</div> I've found many examples of creating slideshows using javascript all over the internet and these forums. However, I haven't found any that show how to create a slideshow and give each slide a different time interval between switching to the next one. I'm changing my website over from a Flash based one to something that can be read on all devices. In doing so I've looked for ways to add a little motion to the site. I'm working with a friend who has been doing most of the site but here and there I like to get my hands dirty and try some things on my own. Unfortunately he doesn't know Javascript. I wanted to have an animation window in the bottom corner of the page. Look at http://www.whyreboot.com/blog to see what I came up with. I took a slider plugin for Wordpress and basically created a bunch of slides and entered them in to switch every .5s so that I could change how quickly they changed images by making some of them repeat the same slide 4 times for 2s, 2 times for 1s, etc. Though it's not pretty, it works. On Firefox everything looks great although it'd be nice to have fade in and out on each slide. On an iPad or IE it actually shows the flash between slides even when they're the same image. Quite frankly, it's ugly. Does anybody have any ideas? Please keep in mind that I am a network systems engineer by trade so the only coding I know is Cisco IOS, etc. I'm trying to get this to work in a Wordpress site on a window with dimensions of 450X230. I apologize if this is not the correct place to look for help on this. I have read the forum fules and guidelines and this seemed to be the right place. Thanks ahead of time for any sage advice from what looks like a great community of web geeks! Here is the code I am working with, been at it for 3 days now. I am at a loss....cant see why it shouldnt work. window.onload = defineMarquee; var timeID; var marqueeTxt = new Array(); var marqueeOff = true; function defineMarquee(){ var topValue = 0; var allElems = document.getElementsByTagName("*"); for (var i=0; i < allElems.length; i++){ if (allElems[i].className =="marqueTxt") marqueeTxt.push(allElems[i]); } for (i = 0; i < marqueeTxt.length; i++) { if (marqueeTxt[i].getComputedStyle) { topValue = marqueeTxt[i].getPropertyValue("top"); } else if (marqueeTxt[i].currentStyle) { topValue = marqueeTxt[i].currentStyle("top"); } } document.getElementById("startMarquee").onclick = startMarquee; document.getElementById("stopMarquee").onclick = stopMarquee; } function startMarquee(){ if (marqueeOff == true) { timeID = setInterval("moveMarquee()", 50); marqueeOff = false; } } function stopMarquee(){ clearInterval(timeID); marqueeOff = true; } function moveMarquee(){ var topPos = 0; for (i=0; i < marqueeTxt.length; i++){ if (marqueeTxt[i].getComputedStyle) { topPos = parseInt(marqueeTxt[i].getPropertyValue("top")); } else if (marqueeTxt[i].currentStyle) { topPos = parseInt(marqueeTxt[i].currentStyle("top")); } if (topPos < -110) { topPos = 700; } else { topPos -= 1; } marqueeTxt[i].style.top = topPos + "px"; } } Hi, I have written a number of functions designed to return frequency data on 1000 randomly chosen numbers using different math functions for the rounding. I would like to include all of these functions within the wrapper of another function so that only one call is needed to get returns from all of the 'inner' functions. However, while each of the functions works in isolation, the moment I wrap them in another function they stop working. The following code is one of the functions 'frequencyWrapperOne' that has been wrapped in the function 'testWrapper'. A call to testWrapper does nothing. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong? Code: function testWrapper() { function frequencyWrapperOne() { var numberArrayOne = new Array(0,0,0); for (var i = 0; i < 1000; i = i + 1) { var chosenNumber = Math.floor(Math.random() * 3); if (chosenNumber == 0) { numberArrayOne[0] = numberArrayOne[0] + 1; } if (chosenNumber == 1) { numberArrayOne[1] = numberArrayOne[1] + 1; } if (chosenNumber == 2) { numberArrayOne[2] = numberArrayOne[2] + 1; } } return window.alert(numberArrayOne.join(',')); } } testWrapper(); Thanks. Hello, I don't know if this can be done in Javascript, or requires any other language but i was wondering if this would be possible. I would like to embed this Javascript code in to a PHP file and then for it to run automatically upon the PHP file loading: Code: <td class="smallDesc"> <a name="fb_share" type="button_count" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php">Share</a><script src="http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/connect.php/js/FB.Share" type="text/javascript"></script> </td> The Javascirpt is the Facebook Share button that basically allows users that have Facebook to share the page there currently on in their Facebook status by pressing the button, but if there not logged in it shows the login page, not a problem just continue the script. The current button i which is what i want to load automatically in the PHP file is located here, to test the functionalilty just click "Share" button in blue.. http://watch-movies-online.anyfilman...-Movie-17.html To summarise, i would like the above Javascript code to execute automatically upon pageload of this PHP file.. http://www.watch-movies-online.anyfi...p://google.com. If that could be done, and if this also is possible.. i would like for the "Share" button on the external page that is loaded from the Javascript code above to be clicked automatically so in effect when ever someone visits the PHP page after clicking "Click Here to Watch/Stream 2012 Online For Free" on this page it will automatically load the Facebook Share box, and automatically click the "Share" Button and then close the page if possible, but not required. Please feel free to ask any questions, i'll be happy to answer. Thanks in advance. Best Regards, Jonathan. Is there a way to activate a function from another function? It has to be in the script tag, it can't be in the HTML section. Can I use something similar to this following code? If not, can anyone give me some help? I have tried to do it various ways, and have looked it up a few times, but to no avail. Can I use something similar to this following code? If not, can anyone give me some help? if (condition) {activate functionname();} Any help I can get would be appreciated. Thanks a lot to anyone who can help. Could someone just point me into the right direction, I tried w3c and others but unsuccessfully, it looks like everyone just seamlessly go straight to the coding. Hey all, I am very new to javascript. I have been using this stacks menu I am sure you may have seen elsewhe http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/ja...ck-navigation/ I have modified it a bit though as I will want to use my own graphics and change a little bit how it works. I managed to make it so that the images become transparent when the stack is put back in place and then non transparent when they come back out. The problem I have is that I need the images to be transparent initially when they are in the stack. You can see the problem he http://bit.ly/cdelJu Here is the javascript for this: Code: $(function () { // Stack initialize var openspeed = 300; var closespeed = 300; $('.stack2>img').toggle(function(){ var vertical = 0; var horizontal = 90; var $el=$(this); $el.next().children().each(function(){ $(this).animate({top: vertical + 'px', left: horizontal + 'px', opacity: '10'}, openspeed); vertical = vertical + 40; horizontal = (horizontal+.75)*1.15; }); $el.next().animate({top: '40px', left: '10px'}, openspeed).addClass('openStack') .find('li a>img').animate({width: '50px', marginLeft: '9px'}, openspeed); $el.animate({paddingBottom: '0'}); }, function(){ //reverse above var $el=$(this); $el.next().removeClass('openStack').children('li').animate({top: '-33px', left: '-10px', opacity: '0'}, closespeed); $el.next().find('li a>img').animate({width: '79px', marginLeft: '0'}, closespeed); $el.animate({paddingBottom: '35px'}); }); // Stacks additional animation $('.stack2 li a').hover(function(){ $("img",this).animate({width: '56px'}, 100); $("span",this).animate({marginRight: '30px'}); },function(){ $("img",this).animate({width: '50px'}, 100); $("span",this).animate({marginRight: '0'}); }); }); and here is the css: Code: /* ================ STACK #2 ================ */ .stack2 { position: fixed; top: 28px; left: 90px;} .stack2 > img { position: relative; cursor: pointer; padding-bottom: 35px; z-index: 2; } .stack2 ul { list-style: none; position: absolute; top: 7px; cursor: pointer; z-index: 1; } .stack2 ul li { position: absolute; } .stack2 ul li img { border: 0; } .stack2 ul li span { display: none; } .stack2 .openStack li span { font-family: "Lucida Grande", Lucida, Verdana, sans-serif; display:block; height: 14px; position:absolute; top: 17px; right:60px; line-height: 14px; border: 0; background-color:#000; padding: 3px 10px; border-radius: 10px; -webkit-border-radius: 10px; -moz-border-radius: 10px; color: #fcfcfc; text-align: center; text-shadow: #000 1px 1px 1px; opacity: .85; filter: alpha(opacity = 85); } #dock { top: 0; left: 100px; } a.dock-item { position: relative; float: left; margin-right: 10px; } .dock-item span { display: block; } .stack { top: 0; } .stack ul li { position: relative; } /* IE Fixes */ .stack2 { _position: absolute; } .stack2 ul { _z-index:-1; _top:-15px; } .stack2 ul li { *right:5px; } annd the html: Code: <div class="stack2"> <img src="images/stacks/stack-down.png" alt="stack"/> <ul id="stack2"> <li><a href=""><span>Aperture</span><img src="images/stacks/aperture.png" alt="Aperature" /></a></li> <li><a href="#"><span>All Examples</span><img src="images/stacks/photoshop.png" alt="Photoshop" /></a></li> <li><a href="example3.html"><span>Example 3</span><img src="images/stacks/safari.png" alt="Safari" /></a></li> <li><a href="example2.html"><span>Example 2</span><img src="images/stacks/coda.png" alt="Coda" /></a></li> <li><a href="index.html"><span>Example 1</span><img src="images/stacks/finder.png" alt="Finder" /></a></li> </ul> </div> Any help is greatly appreciated! hi every one i;m new here and i love to know programming languages and some friends adviced me to start with java script then php , and i guess i'm at the right place can you please tell how to start and where to begain i'm really don't know anything about programming
Hi guys I'm new to the forums here. I want to learn how to use Javascript and AJAX along with jquery or prototype to develop a dynamic website. For example, I like how www.dropbox.com works. Everything has a transition, and you can drag and drop things around which is what I like. Ultimately I hope to be able to develop a dynamic website with social networking elements. I know my goals are lofty, but where should I get started and what should I learn. I have some cursory programming experience with visual basic, fortran and html. Any particular books that would help me learn. Ideally a book would have some programming "challenges" or small projects that would give me some experience. Thanks |
