JavaScript - Need Simple Javascript Assistance--how To Change How Code Initiates
I have a javascript code, which initiates via "onClick" when a user clicks on a checkbox. I downloaded the sample code, but the problem is is that I need the javascript to be initiated automatically, not when a user clicks on a checkbox. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me resolve this issue. Below is a sample of the code I'm using. Thanks in advance.
Code: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no;" /> <meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> <!-- iPad/iPhone specific css below, add after your main css > <link rel="stylesheet" media="only screen and (max-device-width: 1024px)" href="ipad.css" type="text/css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" media="only screen and (max-device-width: 480px)" href="iphone.css" type="text/css" /> --> <!-- If you application is targeting iOS BEFORE 4.0 you MUST put json2.js from http://www.JSON.org/json2.js into your www directory and include it here --> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="phonegap.0.9.6.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="SAiOSAdPlugin.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> // If you want to prevent dragging, uncomment this section /* function preventBehavior(e) { e.preventDefault(); Is there anyway for me to have the "Onclick" function in this code changed to onload? Hi everyone, I've been coding Perl for quite some time, but I'm new to Javascript and can't quite figure this out. I want to call a Javascript function that is sent to the browser via a perl script. When I hard code the string "Fargo" into the code it works just fine, when I pass the word Fargo via a variable the script will not call the function what so ever. Is it possible to call a javascript function via a Perl script with Perl providing all the necessary data? Here is my code: #!/usr/local/bin/perl use CGI qw(:all); use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser); use Cwd; print header; print "top<br><br>"; $data = "fargo"; print <<html; <html><head></head>my heading is here<br><body></body> <script type="text/javascript"> function testz(inbound) { document.write("im in ", inbound); } //the script will only work if I uncomment the line below and comment out two lines below //var data1="fargo"; var data1 = $data; testz(data1); </script> </html> html Thanks to everyone in advance for your help. I have been looking around for a while on google and have come accross a few things but still am unable to find the exact codes. I am trying to have a page setup so that when the user clicks a button it will add preset text to a form box and keep the chronological order of buttons that are clicked. This is going to be used for my ambulance service to assist dispatch so basically i am looking for preset buttons that the dispatcher can click disp. and have the dispatch and time added to a list in the form box that can later be copied and emailed to our cell phones. Thanks for any help. I have the following regex pattern: var patt=/(&(?=(amp|apos|gt|lt|quot)|[^&])+/; It's validation to ensure that any ampersand sign is followed by amp;, apos;, gt;, lt;, or qout;. It should validate any other character except the aforementioned ampersand case. The regex checks out ok on all online regex testers. however, when i apply it to javascript via the test() method, things that return a fail in the testers return true with the js test() method, so the validation isn't working for me right now in javascript. e.g. var testStr = 'someString&'; //should fail var testStr2 = 'someString&'; //should pass however, calling patt.test(testStr); returns true when it should be returning false... Thanks for any input and help you all have to offer. I've been beating this to death for about 3 hours and I'm a little stuck on it.. I am using the Mega Menu from http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/...megamenu.shtml and need some assistance with an adjustment. The menu is working great as provided. However, we have a fairly wide menu layout and I have received comments that it is visually distracting to have the menu fly out horizontally. We want to have the menu start out full width and only animate to drop down vertically. Is this possible? If so, where in jkmegamenu.js would I make this adjustment? Thank you. Paul Hi, I am constructing a website with a page that holds a world clock. The clock displays in the centre of the page and is surrounded by 12 buttons (Individual World Cities). OnClick of these buttons changes the time displayed. I am trying to amend the code so that when one of these buttons is clicked. It not only updates and changes the clock. But also adds text below the clock that says something like "The time in New York is now displayed). I have been trying to find the code to do this for a few hours and the closest I could find was an addtext function. No matter what I do though I just cant get it to work! If anyone could help that would be appreciated. My Problem: - The AJAX script fails when I try to change the text inside 'result' using my code, sometimes a whole new page opens with the text I wanted to put inside the result HTML element. Sometimes I just get a notification that an error occured. - I believe it is because of my function state_changed & using the parameter element_id with the function getElementById(element_id).innerHTML = ...; - It should be easy to see where my problem occurs when you look at my code Any advice on why the script fails & how to fix it would be extremely helpful. Code: var xmlHttp; function ajax_compatible() { // Post: Returns an object if browser is AJAX compatible else false. if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { // users web browser can support AJAX return ( new XMLHttpRequest() ); } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { // users web browser is IE6 and IE5 return ( new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP") ); } else { alert("Unfortunately your browser does not support AJAX."); return null; } } function get_cookie(cookie_name) { if (document.cookie.length > 0) { c_start = document.cookie.indexOf(cookie_name + "="); if (c_start != -1) { c_start = c_start + cookie_name.length+1; c_end = document.cookie.indexOf(";",c_start) if (c_end == -1) { c_end = document.cookie.length; } return unescape(document.cookie.substring(c_start,c_end)) } } return "" } function add_comment() { // Post: Add user comment & rating to database and update new table row. // DO WE NEED TO SEND COOKIE ASWELL OR IS IT ALREADY DONE??? xmlHttp = ajax_compatible(); if (xmlHttp == null) { return; } var url = 'http://localhost:8000/cgi-bin/main.py'; alert("add_comment() running"); // Extract CGI variables to pass onto python script var id = document.getElementById('videoID').value; var video_id = 'videoID=' + id; var rating = 'rating=' + document.getElementsByName('rating').value; var comment = 'comment=' + document.getElementById('comment').value; var add_rating = 'addRating=' + document.getElementById('addRating').value; //var cookie = document.cookie; cgi_var = video_id + '&' + rating + '&' + comment + '&' + add_rating; // + '&' + cookie; // open python script xmlHttp.open('POST',url, true); xmlHttp.setRequestHeader('Content-Type', 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'); // Error is in below line xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = state_changed(id); // if I use the following line then it works // xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = test; xmlHttp.send(cgi_var); } function state_changed(element_id) { // Post: Use one function that will be used for each page update. // This function sends the text returned by the python server script // onto the browser(HTML element with the id 'element_id') to be displayed. if (xmlHttp.readyState == 4) { document.getElementById(element_id).innerHTML = xmlHttp.responseText; } } function test() { // Post: used to test where the problem occurs // This function works if (xmlHttp.readyState == 4) { document.getElementById('result').innerHTML = xmlHttp.responseText; } } I imagine this would be very simple for someone who knows javascript. I want to have three fields. First field is "posted speed limit", second field is "actual speed" and third field will be the output field. All the script needs to do it subtract the posted speed from the actual speed and add a ZERO to the end; which is the amount of the speeding ticket. The minimum fine is $100, however. So, 5 miles over the speed limit would be $100 (minimum value) 15 miles over the speed limit would be $150 (add a zero) 35 miles over the speed limit would be $350. etc. I know very little Javascript, if anyone could help me out with this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Sean I have a javascript for a tree view but i need to change it according to the requirement. Lets start with example with the treeview as follow: 1 Door phone 1.1 Ready Kits 1.1.1 Audioset 1.1.2 Videoset 1.2 Audio Kits 1.2.1 Elphone 1.2.2 Video Door phone 2 CCTV 2.1 Camera 2.1.1 Dome Camera 2.1.2 IP Camera 2.2 Others Now the thing is in the current treeview a single category is open at a time. like if 1.1.1 is open 1.1.2 will b closed and similarly if 1.1 is open...1.2 will b closed. But i want that when i click on 1(Door phone) ie Door phone...evry node should be opened instead of just one similary when i click on 2(CCTV), all its node should be opened. I hope it will be possible to achieve this and i would be helped. My succeeding post will be the javascript i need help with. Thanks Hi all, I'm trying to change our shopping cart code by making a small modification. When editing a product, there is a dimensions box which currently only allows numbers. We want it to allow numbers and letters (don't ask why). The code we have is the following which we think is related to why our shopping cart won't allow letters in the box. Could someone please edit the following code to allow letters? Thank you. Code: if(isNaN(dimensionsFormat(prodWidth.value)) && prodWidth.value != "" && !sellingDP) { ShowTab(0); alert("%%LNG_EnterWidth%%"); prodWidth.focus(); prodWidth.select(); return false; } if(isNaN(dimensionsFormat(prodHeight.value)) && prodHeight.value != "" && !sellingDP) { ShowTab(0); alert("%%LNG_EnterHeight%%"); prodHeight.focus(); prodHeight.select(); return false; } if(isNaN(dimensionsFormat(prodDepth.value)) && prodDepth.value != "" && !sellingDP) { ShowTab(0); alert("%%LNG_EnterDepth%%"); prodDepth.focus(); prodDepth.select(); return false; } Hi, Am using jQuery to hide/show rows of a table (courtesy of http://www.jankoatwarpspeed.com). Problem is I need the jQuery to respond to just the arrow (see example) not the whole row which at the moment is all clickable. Can anyone look at the jQuery and propose what needs to change to make that happen please. Example at http://www.jankoatwarpspeed.com/exam...pandable-rows/ Here's the jQuery: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $("#report tr:odd").addClass("odd"); $("#report tr:not(.odd)").hide(); $("#report tr:first-child").show(); $("#report tr.odd").click(function(){ $(this).next("tr").toggle(); $(this).find(".arrow").toggleClass("up"); }); //$("#report").jExpand(); }); </script> Many thanks in advance, Jock I have just about every thing all set up on my blog now just the way I like it but a few bits of code are not working exactly like I'd want them to. I have a blog: http://thezombiesurvivalist.tumblr.com/ which is using this js: http://static.tumblr.com/ur6r7hb/FoY...ider-jquery.js to allow the mousewheel to scroll the screen right and left rather than up and down. I think the mouse wheel code would all just be in this part: Code: (function($) { var types = ['DOMMouseScroll', 'mousewheel']; $.event.special.mousewheel = { setup: function() { if (this.addEventListener){for(var i=types.length;i;){this.addEventListener(types[--i], handler, false );}} else {this.onmousewheel = handler;} }, teardown: function() { if (this.removeEventListener ) for ( var i=types.length; i; ){{this.removeEventListener(types[--i],handler,false);}} else{this.onmousewheel = null;} } }; $.fn.extend({ mousewheel: function(fn) {return fn ? this.bind("mousewheel", fn) : this.trigger("mousewheel");}, unmousewheel: function(fn) {return this.unbind("mousewheel", fn);} }); function handler(event) { var args = [].slice.call( arguments, 1 ), delta = 0, returnValue = true; event = $.event.fix(event || window.event); event.type = "mousewheel"; if ( event.wheelDelta ) delta = event.wheelDelta/120; if ( event.detail ) delta = -event.detail/3; // Add events and delta to the front of the arguments args.unshift(event, delta); return $.event.handle.apply(this, args); } })(jQuery); I would like the js to force vertical scrolling to be default first, then if then is no vertical scrolling or if it runs out then the horizontal scrolling takes over. Currently it seems to occur in reverse order. For example if you go to one of the posts individual pages that are long: http://thezombiesurvivalist.tumblr.c...esh-in-n-y-l-a then it will scroll left and right before scrolling up and down. I'd rather it be the other way around. Is this code able to be changed to accommodate my desires? Hello. I'm trying to improve page loads times on my site and I've tracked the issue down to the share buttons we have. We load the Tweet Button, Facebook Like Button, and Google +1 button sometimes up to 25 times on one page. What I'd like to do is, on initial load, display an image that looks like the Tweet Button, for example, and then when hovering over a div, change to the actual Tweet Button code. I know how to do this in general, but the key is that the actual tweet button code doesn't load when the page loads, only when you hover over the div does the actual code load. Can someone please give me a general template and I can integrate it in with my site? Thanks. Hi First sorry for my bad English! may any one interpret the JavaScript code below for me? I used google to add an interactive feature to my website that some people may be familiar with. I wanted to make an image that changes into another image when you mouse over it. Maybe there is a problem with how I integrated it into the rest of my webpage code. I am using angelfire to build my website and am a little disappointed that they don't have their own forum but this one looks really good. Following is my code that can be examined and possibly corrected. Code: <html> <head> <style type="text/css"> body {background-color:gold;} table { width:70%; } th { height:100px; } </style> <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- Hide the script from old browsers -- img0_on = new Image(400,400); img0_on.src="images/the-power-of-the-cross.JPG"; img0_off = new Image(400,400); img0_off.src="images/006.JPG"; function over_image(parm_name) { document[parm_name].src = eval(parm_name + "_on.src"); } function off_image(parm_name) { document[parm_name].src = eval(parm_name + "_off.src"); } // --End Hiding Here --> </script> <TITLE>Welcome to the Christ Alive Community Church Website</TITLE> </head> <body> <a href="http://www.angelfire.com/caccweb/index2.html" onmouseover="over_image('img0');" onmouseout="off_image('img0')"> <img src="images/006.JPG" border="0" name="img0"> </a> <TABLE> <TR> <TD> <img src="images/006.JPG" WIDTH="400" HEIGHT="400"> </TD> <TD> <img src="images/043.JPG" WIDTH="400" HEIGHT="400"> </TD> </TR> </TABLE> </body> </html> hey guys i downloaded the 'Content Slider v2.4', and this has a feature which will save a cookie used to remember and recall the last content viewed by the user when they return to the page. (click here for more information on the script.) the only thing is that this is made for pages with URLs such as: Quote: www.mysite.com/gallery_album_1/content.php but my URLS are set out like: Quote: www.mysite.com/content.php?gallery_album_1 is there a way to make to so the cookie remembers the page via the "php?gallery_album_1" part instead of the "content.php" part. i need it to be like this simply because i have multiple galleries coming from the oe page, eg: Quote: www.mysite.com/content.php?gallery_album_1 www.mysite.com/content.php?gallery_album_2 www.mysite.com/content.php?gallery_album_3 the main code of the js is as follows: Code: //** Featured Content Slider script- (c) Dynamic Drive DHTML code library: http://www.dynamicdrive.com. //** May 2nd, 08'- Script rewritten and updated to 2.0. //** June 12th, 08'- Script updated to v 2.3, which adds the following features: //1) Changed behavior of script to actually collapse the previous content when the active one is shown, instead of just tucking it underneath the later. //2) Added setting to reveal a content either via "click" or "mouseover" of pagination links (default is former). //3) Added public function for jumping to a particular slide within a Featured Content instance using an arbitrary link, for example. //** July 11th, 08'- Script updated to v 2.4: //1) Added ability to select a particular slide when the page first loads using a URL parameter (ie: mypage.htm?myslider=4 to select 4th slide in "myslider") //2) Fixed bug where the first slide disappears when the mouse clicks or mouses over it when page first loads. var featuredcontentslider={ //3 variables below you can customize if desired: ajaxloadingmsg: '<div style="margin: 20px 0 0 20px"><img src="../images/loading.gif" /> Fetching slider Contents.
