JavaScript - Recognizing A Form
Recognizing a Form
I had created a form as follow: function makeForm() { mypara=document.getElementById("paraID"); myform=document.createElement("formIS"); myselect = document.createElement("select"); theOption=document.createElement("OPTION"); theText=document.createTextNode("Revenue"); theOption.setAttribute("value","Revenue"); theOption.appendChild(theText); myselect.appendChild(theOption); theOption=document.createElement("OPTION"); theText=document.createTextNode("Expenses"); theOption.appendChild(theText); theOption.setAttribute("value","Expenses"); myselect.appendChild(theOption); myform.appendChild(myselect); mypara.appendChild(myform); myselect.onchange=TitleOnChange; mybreak=document.createElement("p"); myform.appendChild(mybreak); myform.setAttribute("id","formIS"); } I had identified the form with and id: myform.setAttribute("id","formIS"); Now I would like to identify my form to apply an IF instruction: something like: myform=document.getElementById("formIS"); if (myform == "formIS") I tried all the following options and none worked. Does anyone knows why? if (myform.id == "formIS") if (myform.id.value == "formIS") I also tried to debug the code and this is what I see when I put the mouse over myform --> formis#[ COLOR="Navy"]formIS[/COLOR] Thanks you very much Similar TutorialsHi Everyone, I'm encountering errors with a form I have created. I feel confident that the issue is with my JS validation form because when I allow the form to submit without validating any of the fields, my php processor correctly uploads all the content into my database (but, I will need the form validation to prevent the user from skipping fields). The issue (I believe) is with IE. In IE, both drop-downs seem to populate correctly but when I submit the form, I get a prompt to make a selection for the first drop-down menu. The form does submit properly in FireFox and Safari but with some testing I noticed that I was getting a prompt to make a selection in the first drop-down in instances where a selection was already made but I just had not yet populated the second country/state drop-down. Still, in Firefox and Safari, the form does pass validation upon submit.. So, I am hoping it's just IE specific issue. I'm thinking the issue is with IE not recognizing my selection. The form had a drop-down menu where the user selects a letter, then that selection triggers (in JS using a function to process the selection) another drop-down to populate with all the countries or states that begin with the letter from the first selection. Here is the code from my form: Code: <p><span class="title">Sign Up</span></p> <br /> <form id = "signupForm" action="signup_process.php" method = "post" onsubmit="return validateSignupForm();"> <p>All required fields are marked with ( <span class = "requiredStar">*</span> )</p> <br /> <p><label for="first_name">First Name: <span class = "requiredStar">*</span></label></p> <div class = "contactRight"><input type="text" name="first_name" id="first_name" style="height: 20px;" size="30" tabindex="1" maxlength="30" /></div> <br /> <p><label for="last_name">Last Name: <span class = "requiredStar">*</span></label></p> <div class = "contactRight"><input type="text" name="last_name" id="last_name" style="height: 20px;" size="30" tabindex="2" maxlength="30" /></div> <br /> <p><label for="countryLtr">Select the first letter of your country: <span class = "requiredStar">*</span></label></p> <select id="countryLtr" name="countryLtr" id="countryLtr" size="1" tabindex="3" onchange="processSelection()"> <option value=""></option> <option value="USA">USA</option> <option value="A">A</option> <option value="B">B</option> <option value="C">C</option> <option value="D">D</option> <option value="E">E</option> <option value="F">F</option> <option value="G">G</option> <option value="H">H</option> <option value="I">I</option> <option value="J">J</option> <option value="K">K</option> <option value="L">L</option> <option value="M">M</option> <option value="N">N</option> <option value="O">O</option> <option value="P">P</option> <option value="Q">Q</option> <option value="R">R</option> <option value="S">S</option> <option value="T">T</option> <option value="U">U</option> <option value="V">V</option> <option value="W">W</option> <option value="Y">Y</option> <option value="Z">Z</option> </select> <br /> <br /> <p><label for="countryState">Select your country/ state (if USA): <span class = "requiredStar">*</span></label></p> <select id="countryState" name="countryState" id="countryState" size="1" tabindex="4"> </select> <br /> <br /> <p><label for="username">Create a username: <span class = "requiredStar">*</span></label></p> <div class = "contactRight"><input type="text" name="username" id="username" style="height: 20px;" size="30" tabindex="5" maxlength="30" /></div> <br /> <p><label for="email">Email: <span class = "requiredStar">*</span></label></p> <div class = "contactRight"><input type="text" name="email" id="email" style="height: 20px;" size="30" tabindex="6" maxlength="30" /></div> <br /> <p><label for="password">Create a password: <span class = "requiredStar">*</span></label></p> <div class = "contactRight"><input type="password" name="password" id="password" style="height: 20px;" size="30" tabindex="7" maxlength="30" /></div> <br /> <br /> <input type="hidden" name="source" value="12345"> <input type="image" name="submit" value="Submit" class="submitButton" src="images/submit-button.png" /> <input type="image" name="reset" value="Reset" class="resetButton" src="images/reset-button.png" /> <br /> </form> and here is the code for processing the selection of the first drop-down and populating the second drop-down (I reduced the number of options for the countries to save on characters for this post): Code: function processSelection() { choice1 = document.getElementById("countryLtr"); Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! I'm having an issue where a programmatic click event is not behaving the same way the cursor click event is. A cursor click returns the correct object from GetObject(). The programmatic click triggered by a USB device is returning undefined from GetObject(). How can this be resolved? Edit: It appears that it does not recognize eval(document.getElementById(gButtonList[gButtonId])).onclick(); as an event. Why is this? How can I get it to recognize it? Edit2: Resolved it myself. See green text below. TestPage.htm: Code: <script language="JavaScript" src="../bin/USBHelperFile.js"></script> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/JavaScript"> function BuildButtons() { for (var i = 0; i < testArray.length; i++) { // Create Div [Buttons created programmatically] var divNode = document.createElement('div'); divNode.id = 'div' + i; divNode.onclick= ClickFunction; etc... } } function ClickFuntion(nodeButtonNum) { alert(GetObject()); Returns the index for a cursor click. Returns undefined for the programmatic click triggered by the USB device } function GetObject() { var node = event.srcElement; return node; } </script> USBHelperFile.js: Code: This JS file works with a USB hardware device that can navigate through divs and click them when they have focus. function HelperFunction(keyCommand) { switch (keyCommand) { case: "click": // eval(document.getElementById(gButtonList[gButtonId])).onclick(); var target = eval(document.getElementById(gButtonList[gButtonId])); target.fireEvent("onclick"); break; } } Hello i'm trying to play just the first few seconds on a quicktime movie then stop. if the user scrolls, I replay - Im doing this to reshow the image that seems to go away when scrolling. By design, once the user clicks 'Play' I want the movie to disregard the scroll (and other) functions. This seems to work in FF, but not in IE, where the movie will not even play initially. I'm getting a 'document.movie1 undefined error'. Any help is much appreciated. Here is the code.... Here is a link to the live page: http://www.watphotos.com/introductio...otography.html And here is the code in question: Code: <script src="js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> $(document).ready(function(){ var initial = 0 var total = 0; var services = 0; function addServices() { initial = 150 total = initial services = 0; $("input:checked").each(function(){ value = $(this).attr("value"); services += parseInt(value); }); } $(function() { addServices(); total += services; $("form").before('<p class="price"></p>') $("p.price").text("Total Price: US$" + total); }); $("input:radio, input:checkbox").click(function () { addServices(); total += services $("p.price").text("Total Price: US$" + total); }); }); </script> I have two questions... Question 1 How can I make this piece of script act a little smarter. Look at the order form, I'm catering for up to 4 people and providing lunch for them. If they select 3 people and the spaghetti bol for lunch, it's only adding $10 where it should be adding $30. Obviously this is simple multiplication but since the values in my form are prices it makes it a little tricky. I'm guessing an onselect on the first part of the form which changes the pricing of the other items would be the way to go, but how do I do this? Question 2 The "Total Price" is placed before the <form> tag by the script. This is ok but it's not where I want it. How can I position this text elsewhere in the document? Thanks in advance! I've literally tried everything. Read 26 tutorials, interchanged code, etc. My validation functions all work. My AJAX functions work (tested manually using servlet URL's). The second servlet validates the reCaptcha form that's generated on my webpage. After the form is validated, even if everything's correct, nothing happens upon clicking submit. I even have an alert pop up if with the captcha result, just for middle-layer debugging purposes. I want to do all of my validation clientside; none serverside. However, going to be tough if I can't get my god damn form to submit. I've been puzzled by this for close to 36 hours straight. I can't see, and I'm going to get some rest and hope that there is some useful insight on my problem when I return. html form: Code: <form id="f1" name="form1" onsubmit="validate_form(this); return false;" action="register" method="post"> <table cellspacing="5" style="border: 2px solid black;"> <tr> <td valign="top"> <table cellspacing="5"> <tr> <td>*First name</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_one"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="fn" name="fn" onBlur="validate_one();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Last name</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_two"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="ln" name="ln" onBlur="validate_two();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Email address</td> <td align="right"><span id="result"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="mailfield" name="email" onBlur="startRequest();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Phone number</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_three"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="pn" name="pn" onBlur="validate_three();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*City/Town</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_four"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="c" name="c" onBlur="validate_four();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td> <select name="s"> <option value="AL">Alabama <option value="AK">Alaska <option value="AZ">Arizona <option value="AR">Arkansas <option value="CA">California <option value="CO">Colorado <option value="CT">Connecticut <option value="DE">Delaware <option value="FL">Florida <option value="GA">Georgia <option value="HI">Hawaii <option value="ID">Idaho <option value="IL">Illinois <option value="IN">Indiana <option value="IA">Iowa <option value="KS">Kansas <option value="KY">Kentucky <option value="LA">Louisiana <option value="ME">Maine <option value="MD">Maryland <option value="MA">Massachusetts <option value="MI">Michigan <option value="MN">Minnesota <option value="MS">Mississippi <option value="MO">Missouri <option value="MT">Montana <option value="NE">Nebraska <option value="NV">Nevada <option value="NH">New Hampshire <option value="NJ">New Jersey <option value="NM">New Mexico <option value="NY">New York <option value="MC">North Carolina <option value="ND">North Dakota <option value="OH">Ohio <option value="OK">Oklahoma <option value="OR">Oregon <option value="PA">Pennsylvania <option value="RI">Rhode Island <option value="SC">South Carolina <option value="SD">South Dakota <option value="TN">Tennessee <option value="TX">Texas <option value="UT">Utah <option value="VT">Vermont <option value="VA">Virginia <option value="WA">Washington <option value="WV">West Virginia <option value="WI">Wisconsin <option value="WY">Wyoming </select> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <br> </td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td><span id="error"></span></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top">*Anti-Spam Verification</td> <td></td> <td id="reCaptcha"></td> </tr> </table> </td> <td valign="top"> <table cellspacing="5"> <tr> <td align="left">*Affiliation</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_five"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="affl" name="affl" onBlur="validate_five();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Research Area:</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_six"></span></td> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" id="ra" name="ra" onBlur="validate_six();"></td> </tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="left">*Research Overview</td> <td align="right"><span id="valid_seven"></span></td> <td><textarea cols="38" rows="6" id="ro" name="ro" onKeyDown="limitText(this.form.ro,this.form.countdown,500)" onKeyUp="limitText(this.form.ro,this.form.countdown,500)" onBlur="validate_seven();"></textarea></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td></td> <td><font size="1">You have <input readonly type="text" name="countdown" size="1" value="500"> characters remaining.</font></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left">*Talk Availability</td> <td></td> <td> <input type="radio" name="ta" value="In person">In person <input type="radio" name="ta" value="Online">Online <input type="radio" name="ta" value="Both" checked>Both </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" valign="top">Links</td> <td></td> <td> <table id="linkTable" border="0"> <td><input type="text" style="width: 320px;" name="link"></td> <td><div id="result"></div></td> </table> </td> <td align="left" valign="top"><input type="button" value="Add Link" onclick="addLink('linkTable')"></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td><span style="color: red;"></span></td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> <br /> <input type="submit" id="submit" name="submit" value="Submit Form"> </form> Javascript file: Code: /* * script.js - ajax and table functions */ var xmlHttp; Order Form: Code: <td colspan="1" height="120" align="left"> <select style="margin-left: 60px; background-color: #00FF77;" name="prod_bed_359" onchange="calculateValue(this.form)"> <option value="0">0</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> </select> R359</td></tr> New page I called a unction to print: Code: function itemsOrdered() { var beds = document.forms[2].prod_bed_359.value; document.write("<pre><strong>Description\t\tQuantity\tPrice</strong></pre>"); document.write("<pre>Doggie Bed\t\t" + beds + "</pre>"); } This is still basic as I need to get this right before adding the prices and totals which is also extracted from the order page. Hello all, I have a multistep jquery form that validates user input and then should send me an email. Problem is, right now, I can only get it to validate the first page, then it sends the email before the rest of the pages are viewed. I'm just trying to delay the submission of the form until the "submit_fourth" button is pressed. I've got $25 via paypal for the one who sticks with this one for long enough to come up with a workable solution. Here is my code... I know it's a lot, but I wasn't sure how much would be helpful. HTML code is in the second post in this thread (it was just too much to fit in one go). Cheers! -Dave The Javascript: Code: $(function validateForm(){ //original field values var field_values = { //id : value 'name' : 'your name', 'email' : 'email', 'phone' : '(555) 123-4567', 'other' : 'other', 'detail' : 'project overview' }; //inputfocus $('input#name').inputfocus({ value: field_values['name'] }); $('input#email').inputfocus({ value: field_values['email'] }); $('input#phone').inputfocus({ value: field_values['phone'] }); $('input#other').inputfocus({ value: field_values['other'] }); $('input#detail').inputfocus({ value: field_values['detail'] }); //reset progress bar $('#progress').css('width','0'); $('#progress_text').html('0% Complete'); //first_step $('form').submit(function(){ }); $('#submit_first').click(function(){ //remove classes $('#first_step input').removeClass('error').removeClass('valid'); //ckeck if inputs aren't empty var emailPattern = /^[a-zA-Z0-9._-]+@[a-zA-Z0-9.-]+\.[a-zA-Z]{2,4}$/; var fields1 = $('#first_step input[type=text]'); var error = 0; fields1.each(function(){ var value = $(this).val(); if( value.length<5 || value==field_values[$(this).attr('id')] || ( $(this).attr('id')=='email' && !emailPattern.test(value) ) ) { $(this).addClass('error'); $(this).effect("shake", { times:3 }, 50); error++; } else { $(this).addClass('valid'); } }); if(error <= 0) { //update progress bar $('#progress_text').html('25% Complete'); $('#progress').css('width','85px'); //slide steps $('#first_step').slideUp(); $('#second_step').slideDown(); } else return false; }); $('#back_second').click(function(){ //update progress bar $('#progress_text').html('0% Complete'); $('#progress').css('width','0px'); //slide steps $('#second_step').slideUp(); $('#first_step').slideDown(); }); $('#submit_second').click(function(){ //remove classes $('#second_step input').removeClass('error').removeClass('valid'); var fields2 = $('#second_step input[textarea]'); var error = 0; fields2.each(function(){ var value = $(this).val(); if( value.length<5 || value==field_values[$(this).attr('id')] ) { $(this).addClass('error'); $(this).effect("shake", { times:3 }, 50); error++; } else { $(this).addClass('valid'); } }); if(error <= 0) { //update progress bar $('#progress_text').html('50% Complete'); $('#progress').css('width','170px'); //slide steps $('#second_step').slideUp(); $('#third_step').slideDown(); } else return false; }); $('#back_third').click(function(){ //update progress bar $('#progress_text').html('25% Complete'); $('#progress').css('width','85px'); //slide steps $('#third_step').slideUp(); $('#second_step').slideDown(); }); $('#submit_third').click(function(){ //update progress bar $('#progress_text').html('75% Complete'); $('#progress').css('width','255px'); //prepare the fourth step var fields3 = new Array( $('#time').val(), $('#budget').val() ); var fields2half = new Array( $('#detail').val() ); var fields2 = new Array( $('#other').val(), $('#pages').val() ); var fields1 = new Array( $('#name').val(), $('#email').val(), $('#phone').val(), $('#contact').val(), $('#url').val() ); var tr = $('#fourth_step tr'); tr.each(function(){ //alert( fields[$(this).index()] ) $(this).children('.1 td:nth-child(2)').html(fields1[$(this).index()]); $(this).children('.2 td:nth-child(2)').html(fields2[$(this).index()]); $(this).children('.2half td:nth-child(2)').html(fields2half[$(this).index()]); $(this).children('.3 td:nth-child(2)').html(fields3[$(this).index()]); }); //slide steps $('#third_step').slideUp(); $('#fourth_step').slideDown(); }); $('#back_fourth').click(function(){ //update progress bar $('#progress_text').html('50% Complete'); $('#progress').css('width','170px'); //slide steps $('#fourth_step').slideUp(); $('#third_step').slideDown(); }); $('#submit_fourth').click(function(){ //send information to server //update progress bar $('#progress_text').html('100% Complete'); $('#progress').css('width','339px'); //slide steps $('#fifth_step').slideUp(); $('#fourth_step').slideDown(); if(error <= 0) { return true } else{ return false } }); }); I've set up a mock registration form page so I can learn a bit about javascript's form validation. (newbie) I want to try to attempt to style the border of a form field green when the user enters the correct info into the form text field and red on all other fields if the user doesnt enter any info into them. When i test it, enter the right info into the username field, leave the others blank, and hit the submit button it styles the username field green ok but it doesnt make the next fields (password and so on) red. Could someone please explain what I am doing wrong? here is my code so far... Note: just for testing purposes I've put return false on everything so it displays a message when everythings ok. Code: .... <script type="text/javascript"> window.onload = function() { document.forms[0].username.focus(); } function validate(form) { var form = document.getElementById("reg"); var e = document.getElementById("error"); e.style.background = "red"; for(var i = 0; i < form.elements.length; i++) { var el = form.elements[i]; if(el.type == "text" || el.type == "password") { if(el.value == "") { e.innerHTML = "Please fill in all fields!"; el.style.border = "1px solid red"; el.focus(); return false; } else { el.style.border = "1px solid green"; return false; } } } var un = form.username; un.value = un.value.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,""); if((un.value.length < 3)|| (/[^a-z0-9\_]/gi.test(un.value))) { e.innerHTML = "Only letters,numbers and the underscore are allowed (no spaces) - 3-16 characters"; un.focus(); return false; } var pw = form.password; pw.value = pw.value.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,""); if((pw.value.length < 3) || (/[^a-z0-9]/gi.test(pw.value))) { e.innerHTML = "Only letters and numbers are allowed (no spaces) - 3-16 characters"; pw.focus(); return false; } e.innerHTML = "You filled in all the fields, well done!"; e.style.background = "green"; return false; } </script> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="header"> <h1>My Cool Website</h1> </div> <div id="content"> <div class="padding"> <h2>Registration</h2> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. I've been looking at this code so much that I'm having a hard time doing it with fresh eyes. The problem page is on http://new.dauidusdesign.com/contact/. FYI, I am also looking to make this work with the 'request a quote' link on the same page. Cheers! -Dave So I have a little calendar widget on my site, for people to choose their dates for a reservation system. They then click a 'Book Now' button which creates a dynamic url (using their start date and the number of dates) to the booking engine. The problem is, the way it accomplishes this (window.location.href=), breaks cross-domain tracking on Google Analytics. And I'm not smart enough to figure out how to do it any other way. What I'd like to do is have clicking the Book Now button change the URL in the form action within the form with ID resForm, and then submit the form. I'm hoping someone can help me edit the form so that it accomplishes this. I'd be incredibly thankful. This is what I currently have: Code: <script> jQuery(document).ready(function($) { $(".book-now").click(function() { if($('#check-in').length > 0 && $('#DepartureDate').val() != '') { var data = $('#check-in').val(); var arr = data.split('/'); var datac = $('#DepartureDate').val(); var arr2 = datac.split('/'); var oneDay = 24*60*60*1000; // hours*minutes*seconds*milliseconds var firstDate = new Date(arr[2],arr[0] -1,arr[1]); var secondDate = new Date(arr2[2],arr2[0] -1,arr2[1]); var diffDays = Math.round((firstDate.getTime() - secondDate.getTime())/(oneDay)); if ((diffDays) < 0) { diffDays = Math.abs(diffDays); var link = "https://res.windsurfercrs.com/bbe/page1.aspx?propertyID=13841&checkin=" + arr[0] + "/" + arr[1] + "/" + arr[2] + "&nights=" + diffDays; console.log(link); window.location.href= link; } else { alert ('Please fill in correct Check-In and Check-Out dates. The Check-In date must be before the Check-Out date.'); } } else { alert ('Please fill in a Check-In and Check-Out date, thanks!'); } }); }); </script> The form looks like this: Code: <form action="#" onSubmit="_gaq.push(['_linkByPost',this]);" method="post" id="resForm"> <input type='text' name="checkin" id="check-in" readonly="readonly" style="cursor: text" data-default="MM/DD/YYYY" class='arrivaldate'/> <input name="checkout" id="DepartureDate" readonly="readonly" style="cursor: text" data-default="MM/DD/YYYY" class='departuredate'/> <input type="button" value="BOOK NOW" class='book-now' /> </form> Reply With Quote 01-25-2015, 12:46 AM #2 Old Pedant View Profile View Forum Posts Supreme Master coder! Code: _gaq.push(['_linkByPost',document.getElementBy("resForm")]) window.location.href= link; I'm using the jquery plugin found here. I love the look but I have a form that uses functions like this: Code: function cascadeCountry(value) { if (document.getElementById("srchlookstate_province") != null) { http.open('get', 'cascade_search.php?a=country&v=' + value ); document.getElementById('srchlookstate_province').innerHTML=" "+loadingTag; http.onreadystatechange = handleResponse; http.send(null); } } So, when you select a country and it retrieves the state/province text input, the jquery css is not applied to it. Is there something I need to add to the code above or to the jquery initialization code he Code: $(function() { $("form.jqtransform").jqTransform(); }); I'm a long time lurker on here just barely created an account to ask this question. I work at a call center, and we use different webapps to fill out tickets. One I've used for a long time allows dynamically updating forms with javascript. I have a whole bunch of bookmarked javascript injections like: Code: javascript:if((top.detail.findObj('X31').value="Inquiry")!=""); That code will fill out most everything in that ticket, leaving me to fill in the details. I have one of those for all of the most common tickets, and can create and finish a ticket in less than 30 seconds when it takes others 3-4 minutes. I recently switched to a different system and I'm having trouble with my code. I'm a noob at javascript for sure, but I'm not new to programming. Anyway any pointers would be nice. The system we use doesn't allow me to see the source... I'm not sure how to explain it. It loads everything in a frame. In chrome I can right click then inspect element and get the ID but it the above javascript doesn't work. Examples: Old app source ex: Code: <label for="X31">Category:</label> was all i needed new app(before the body code is just code for the login form, etc): Code: <body onLoad="startit()" onUnload="stopit()"> </body> <div align="center" valign="center" id="LoadMessageID" style="position: relative; top:40%; color:#0069A5; font-size:100% ;"> <img src="/arsys/shared/images/Progress_NonModal-circle.gif" alt="wait image"/> Loading... </div> </html> formloader: Code: <form name="form1" action="/arsys/forms/bmcitsm/HPD:Incident+Management+Console/Default+User+View+(Support)/?cacheid=a22a36a8" method="post"> example of inspect element in chrome (something i want to change with javascript injection): Code: <input id="arid301602600" type="text" class="text " style="top:0; left:0; width:225; height:21;" readonly=""> Hello, I have 2 things I'm trying to figure out. 1. First form on the page has questions with radio buttons. Each radio's value is a number so a score is assessed at the end. 2. Second form on the page is an email the admin form, which duplicates the score in one field. Question: I would like to know how to write the form results to a text area in second form. However, I can't do this for one, and secondly, the value is a number, can I use labels? Here's the code I've 'made up' so far... JS (i know it's wrong) Code: <script LANGUAGE="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> function display() { message = "<ul><li><b>Question 1: </b>" + document.quizform.Q1.label; message = "<li><b>Question 2: </b>" + document.quizform.Q2.label; message = "<li><b>Question 3: </b>" + document.quizform.Q3.label; message = "<li><b>Question 4: </b>" + document.quizform.Q4.label; message = "<li><b>Question 5: </b>" + document.quizform.Q5.label; message = "<li><b>Question 6: </b>" + document.quizform.Q6.label + "</ul>"; document.write(message); } </script> Form field example: Code: Question 1:<BR> <label for="Yes"><input type="radio" name="Q1" value="0" checked></label>Yes<br> <label for="No"><input type="radio" name="Q1" value="10"></label>No<br> <label for="I don't know"><input type="radio" name="Q1" value="10"></label>I don't know<br> I am no javascript expert, very much a beginner. I am trying to incorporate some into a web-based form. The problem is the button I created to add extra fields does not work, and I can't find exactly where the problem is. I'm in need of some help from a javascript guru. Help me enjoy my Friday afternoon by solving this! The javascript is mostly borrowed and slightly altered, the "additem" I wrote myself so that is probably where the problem lies! Here is the html: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=iso-8859-1"/> <title></title> <link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon"/> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css"/> <script type="text/javascript"> function showAsset(id,str) { if (str=="") { document.getElementById("assetinfo"+id).innerHTML=""; return; } if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {// code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else {// code for IE6, IE5 xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200) { document.getElementById("assetinfo"+id).innerHTML=xmlhttp.responseText; } } xmlhttp.open("GET","getasset.php?q="+str,true); xmlhttp.send(); } var noFields = "5"; function additem() { var fieldrow = document.createElement('tr'); var fieldcolumn1 = document.createElement('td'); var fieldinput = document.createElement('input'); fieldinput.name = "asset"; fieldinput.onChange = "showAsset("+noFields+",this.value)"; var fieldcolumn2 = document.createElement('td'); fieldcolumn2.id = "assetinfo"+noFields; fieldcolumn1.appendChild(fieldinput); var fieldcolumns = fieldcolumn1 + fieldcolumn2; fieldrow.appendChild(fieldcolumns); var addbefore = document.getElementById('fieldend'); document.body.insertBefore(fieldrow, addbefore); noFields = noFields++; } </script> </head> <body> <form> <table> <tr> <td><input name="asset" onChange="showAsset(1,this.value)"></td> <td id="assetinfo1"></td> </tr> <tr> <td><input name="asset" onChange="showAsset(2,this.value)"></td> <td id="assetinfo2"></td> </tr> <tr> <td><input name="asset" onChange="showAsset(3,this.value)"></td> <td id="assetinfo3"></td> </tr> <tr> <td><input name="asset" onChange="showAsset(4,this.value)"></td> <td id="assetinfo4"></td> </tr> <tr> <td><input name="asset" onChange="showAsset(5,this.value)"></td> <td id="assetinfo5"></td> </tr> <tr id="fieldend"> <td><input id="addfield" type="button" value="add item" onClick="addfield()"></td> </tr> </table> </form> </body> </html> Here is the associated getasset.php: Code: <?php $q=$_GET["q"]; $con = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'root'); if (!$con) { die('Could not connect: ' . mysql_error()); } mysql_select_db("assettracking", $con); $sql="SELECT * FROM assets WHERE assetID = '".$q."'"; $result = mysql_query($sql); while($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo "<b>".$row['make'] ." Looks great. I am still new to HTML and Javascript, but basically I took my First Web Form coding (with the Java Script) and manipulated it so that it suited my needs for my 2nd Form (both are very close to being the same). For some reason, I can't get my Java Script validation to take effect. I was wondering if some one could try to pin point why it isn't functioning properly? Again it could be the most obvious thing, but please bear with me as I learn. Just for a little more clarity, I am going to list the things that I have changed to possibly make it easier to pin point: Added Fields: Department, SteetAddress, CityState Deleted: State/Research Accounts, Vendor Checkbox Modified: "Type" which is a radio button that I have changed the choices of. I beleive that's it...I will post my Java Script here and attach my Index File. Thank you in advance!! Code: /******************************************************************************** * * FORM VALIDATION * ********************************************************************************/ // get the value of a radio button group: function getRBValue(grp) { if ( grp.length == null ) return grp.checked ? grp.value : null; for ( var g = 0; g < grp.length; ++g ) { if ( grp[g].checked ) return grp[g].value; } return null; } // trim a string function trim(fld) { var val = fld.value.replace(/^\s+/,"").replace(/\s+%/,"").toUpperCase(); fld.value = val; return val; } var echk = /^([a-z][\w\-\'\.]*)+\@([a-z][\w\-\'\.]+\.)+[a-z]{2,6}$/i function emailCheck( fld ) { var email = trim( fld ); fld.value = email; return echk.test(email); } var digonly = /[^\d]/g function formatPhone( fld ) { var ph = fld.value.replace( digonly, "" ); if ( ph.length != 10 ) return; fld.value = "(" + ph.substring(0,3) + ") " + ph.substring(3,6) + "-" + ph.substring(6); } var phchk = /^\(\d\d\d\) \d\d\d\-\d\d\d\d$/ function phoneCheck( fld ) { return phchk.test(fld.value); } function validateForm( frm ) { var oops = ""; if ( trim( frm.elements["Username."] ).length < 5 ) oops += "You must enter your first and last name\n"; if ( ! emailCheck( frm.elements["Email."] ) ) oops += "That does not appear to be a valid email address\n"; if ( trim( frm.elements["Department."] ).length < 3) oops += "You must enter your department name\n"; if ( ! phoneCheck( frm.elements["Phone."] ) ) oops += "That is not a valid 10-digit phone number\n"; if ( trim( frm.elements["ShipToBuildingRoom."] ).length < 5 ) oops += "You must enter your building and room information\n"; if ( trim( frm.elements["StreetAddress."] ).length < 5 ) oops += "You must enter your street address information\n"; if ( trim( frm.elements["CityZip."] ).length < 5 ) oops += "You must enter your city and zip code information\n"; apptype = getRBValue( frm.elements["Type."] ); if ( apptype == null ) oops += "You must check one class\n"; var app = getRBValue( frm.RequireApprovalYesNo ); if ( app == null ) oops += "You must specify whether or not approval is required.\n"; if ( app == "Yes" ) { if ( trim( frm.Approver ).length < 5 ) oops += "You must enter the name of the approver\n"; if ( ! emailCheck( frm.ApprovalEmail ) ) oops += "The approval email is not a valid email address\n"; } } function showapp(yesno) { document.getElementById("APP1").style.display = document.getElementById("APP2").style.display = document.getElementById("APP3").style.display = yesno ? I have separated the text boxes and duplicated the information from one form to another. The problem is, when I click on the link that use to submit the information, nothing happens. Before the addition of the new form a new window would open with the search that I had submitted. Am I missing something to point to one form or the other? The following is the code that i am using in the form that no longer submits. Thanks in advance for any help.
