JavaScript - Making One Variable Equal Another
Hi all,
I'll get it out their early, I am somewhat of a javascript novice. Here is the code I am working with: Code: <script type="application/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { var numitems = $("#foo6 > li").length; var secondstartpoint = numitems -3; }); </script> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> $(function() { $("#foo6").carouFredSel({ width : 136, height: 822, scroll : { items:1 }, items : { visible: 6, start: secondstartpoint }, easing:"swing", auto : false, prev : "#next3", next : "#prev4", direction:"down", align:"left" }); }); </script> As you can probably see I am trying to set the start point of a jquery carousel to equal a variable that I have created. You can see I have tried " start: secondstartpoint", but this isn't working. I think possibly because the way the plugin is formatted so that the "start" option can only equal a number. Can anyone shed some light on this issue and perhaps even suggest a solution? Thanks in advance guys Dan Similar TutorialsCould anyone tell me (or link me to some place that can) why the following if-statement will execute? if (5!=6 || 7!=8) { alert("Why does this work?"); } Thanks Hi, I'd like to set the div width equal to the image width. Here's what I can think of: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> window.onload = function () { document.getElementById('foo').style.width = document.getElementById('bar').width + 'px'; } </script> <div id="foo" style="background:red;"><img id="bar" src="image.jpg"></div> It seems to be working, but I'm not sure if it's correct coding. Thanks in advance for checking the code or any improvement you suggest! Rain lover This is the program.and here is the script. I have tried all I know without success. This Sources program is on another css/html forum for another issue. How would I clean up this code? it looks so ugly, would I put it in a for loop and make it loop through and set the rand2, rand3, rand4 = place... there so there is a lot less lines of code(which is what I want) I need a cleaner way to do this, so it isn't so much space. Can someone help? there needs to be different variables because I need the random to be different for each, so rand2 = different random value than rand3. var place = [74,111,148,185,222,259,296,333,370]; var random = [rand,rand2,rand3,rand4,rand5,rand6,rand7,rand8,rand9]; var rand = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var rand2 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var rand3 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var rand4 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var rand5 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var rand6 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var rand7 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var rand8 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var rand9 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand1 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand2 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand3 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand4 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand5 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand6 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand7 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand8 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var newrand9 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old1 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old2 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old3 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old4 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old5 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old6 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old7 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old8 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; var old9 = place[Math.floor(Math.random()*place.length)]; Hello, let me try to explain better what I'm trying to do. I'm a real newbie I don't know much javascript but I understand more or less the logic behind it... tell me if this solution should work and if you know how to do it please show me. I have this page. http://felixdeportu.com/5/ The images are inside a div#content div#photo. I need to make div#photo's width to match the total width measurement of all the images it contains. If you load the page and you don't touch the size, it will work fine... but that's not realistic. If I resize the page, which will happen often on this kind of page (I'm assuming), the whole thing goes haywire (try it, scroll to the last image and resize the page you'll see what I mean). What can I do? Is my idea the right solution? Am I not explaining this clearly enough? Let me know please, I'm desperate. I've been trying to get CSS to do this for me for 3 hours now. Nothing works... Hi, I have a programing problem that have been around for ages. I have search on google using several expressions and words and after hours of digging i'm still unable to do it. I would like to get a value from a HTML page hosted remotely with an inconstant value. Then define this value and name as a javascript variable and apply or show in my page. Thanks for all the help P.S. Is there any way to make a domain lookup in javascript? I mean a user enters a domain and the script converts to an ip and shows to the user. If not thanks, probably it can only be done in the server side... Hello I have a php page in which I declared a js variable... right at the top of the page... <script type="text/javascript"> var tester = 0; </script> Later in the page I test this variable... <script type="text/javascript"> if (tester==1){ do some stuff!! } </script> But I keep getting an error variable _tester undefined Am I missing something obvious... I am new to js... but this seems really straightforward Hi! I have a javascript in the head of the document which has a variable named "ref2" ... ref2 is already working as I can see its value working in another function. I need to send this variable as the value of a hidden field in the form which is in the body of the document. This is my JavaScript Code: Code: function WriteContactFormStatement1 () { var ContactFormValue = ref2; document.write('<input type="hidden" name="UReferrersName" value="' + ContactFormValue + '" />'); } var WriteContactFormStatement = WriteContactFormStatement1 (); And at the end of my form, before the submit button, I have the following code: Code: <!-- START -- Javascript to print the statement for UReferrersName --> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/JavaScript"> //WriteContactFormStatement(); document.write (WriteContactFormStatement); </script> <!-- End -- Javascript to print the statement for UReferrersName --> When I execute the form, it doesn't work the way it should, plus, gives me a word "undefined" next to the "Submit" button ..... Please help !... - Xeirus. I don't know how I should do ? If I manually write out "2/22/2012 4:00 PM" in TargetDate, I get the correct result for what I want to do (a countdown). But I want the countdown to always be the current day at 4pm. So I tried the code below thats commented, but it is not working. New to javascript, still reading the books, just hoping for some guidance on this. Code: Next Update: <script language="JavaScript"> var currentTime = new Date() var month = currentTime.getMonth() + 1 var day = currentTime.getDate() var year = currentTime.getFullYear() TargetDate = "2/22/2012 4:00 PM"; //TargetDate = "document.write(month + "/" + day + "/" + year) + 4:00PM"; BackColor = "white"; ForeColor = "red"; CountActive = true; CountStepper = -1; LeadingZero = true; DisplayFormat = "%%H%% H, %%M%% M, %%S%% S"; FinishMessage = "Forecasts posted"; </script> <script language="JavaScript" src="countdown.js"></script> Hello I have a piece of javascrip that refreshes the page: ---------- Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- Begin function reFresh() { location.reload(true) } /* Set the number below to the amount of delay, in milliseconds, you want between page reloads: 1 minute = 60000 milliseconds. 2 minutes = 120000 milliseconds 5 minutes = 300000 milliseconds*/ window.setInterval("reFresh()",20000); // End --> </script> -------- I am new to javascript and wanted to use an html options menu in order to be able to choose the refresh interval: Code: <SELECT NAME="refreshtime"> <OPTION VALUE="60000">1 min</option> <OPTION VALUE="120000">2 min</option> <OPTION VALUE="180000">3 min</option> <OPTION VALUE="240000">4 min</option> </SELECT> I know that I have to pass a variable to the function. Thanks Zam This might be a stupid question, but is there any memory usage difference between var variable1, variable2; and var variable1; var variable2;? I'm learning how to use faster code hence the question.
Hello everybody I have a problem with Java Script damned I want to add the values of several variables in one variable and then use this variable, which contains the values of variables You can see the following example HTML Code PHP Code: <input type="text" name="txt1" /> <br/>age <input type="text" name="txt2" /> <br/><br/> <input type="button" name="submits" value="send"/> Javascript Code PHP Code: field = document.getElementsByName('txt1')[0]; field2 = document.getElementsByName('txt2')[0]; submit = document.getElementsByName('submits')[0]; data = 'data=' + field.value + '&data2=' + field2.value + '&submits=' + submit.value; document.getElementsByName('submits')[0].onclick = function(){ alert(data); } After executing this code I find that the variables are not displayed values As in the following picture I want to know what the cause of this problem ? Okay so to be short, I'm trying to make a script similar to a link checker but instead of having to input each link in one by one and click a button (A button saying Validate, for instance), I was looking for something that would do it automatically? Example - 1. First I input the link http://www.example.com/posts.php?do=1000000000 and click Start or Validate. 2. After clicking Start or Validate, the validator or script would begin checking links, modifying the http://www.example.com/posts.php?do=1000000000 to http://www.example.com/posts.php?do=1000000001 and so on and so on, until it reached all 9's. 3. After the scanning, every existent link (Meaning links that didn't give the 404, or re-direct to another page) would be displayed in the page below or a log file. I really appreciate the help everyone, since I'm still into learning about Javascript. Thanks in advance! Hi all, I have a client who wants a gallery of images to pop up on her enter page similar to this site, http://bit.ly/mUscmo . It won't be identical, but she likes the way the images all pop up and then just stay there. I know how to function JavaScript, but I don't know how to write it from scratch. Is there any where I could find a code that does something similar to this? Or, does anyone know the basic coding that I'd need for this? Thanks! Q Right now I am using the following method to show/hide divs containing videos. html Code: <div class="vidPop" id="vidPop"> <div class="vidFrame" id="vidFrame"> <iframe id="Iframe1" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/xxxxxxx1" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0"></iframe> <div class="vidClose"><a href="#" onclick="vidPopdown()"><img src="images/closeban.png" width="52" height="52" alt="close" /></a></div> </div> </div> <div class="vidPop2" id="vidPop2"> <div class="vidFrame2" id="vidFrame2"> <iframe id="Iframe2" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/xxxxxxx2" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0"></iframe> <div class="vidClose"><a href="#" onclick="vidPopdown2()"><img src="images/closeban.png" width="52" height="52" alt="close" /></a></div> </div> </div> js Code: function vidPopup() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; } function vidPopdown() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; document.getElementById('Iframe1').src = document.getElementById('Iframe1').src } function vidPopup2() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop2'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame2'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; } function vidPopdown2() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop2'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame2'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; document.getElementById('Iframe2').src = document.getElementById('Iframe2').src } all of this works just fine, but now I am adding yet another video, and I know that this isn't the best way to go about doing this. I ought to be able to use 1 function and tell it which iframe to load, however I dont really know javascript. Any and all help on this would be greatly appreciated. I'm decent at JavaScript but I have no idea how I should go about making a calculator. So far I'll drop a bunch of buttons down that all onclick to a function (a,b) and then it will add or w/e then return. How would I incorporate multiple methods such as subtraction or multiplication though? Basically I'm confident I the ability to code or learn to make this calculator, just have no idea how to set this up, thanks. Hello, I'm un-sure on what I should have called this topic so sorry for the possibly mis-leading topic name. Firstly, my menu bar is attached to the top of the clients screen as seen here. Secondly, I've been wondering how could I make it so when a button is pressed another div around 40px in height would appear above it(that div is also attached to the clients screen). For example I saw http://9gag.com/, when you click on search button in the top right hand corner the search bar appears ontop of the menu bar. My JavaScript knowledge is very limited, I know how to make a div appear with the click of a button, but how can I make it be attached to the top of the clients browser and the menu bar in under it?
