JavaScript - Clear Checkbox Functions - Multiple Forms
I posted a thread a few days ago concerning a bit of javascript code to make checking one checkbox clear another one. I got some great, prompt help. However, I just got back to working on that web page, and realized that the functions only work on the first form on my web page. I have many forms and they are actively named using php.
Here's are the functions (these works for just the first form on the page): Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function undo_Changes() { if (document.getElementById("Complete").checked==true) { document.getElementById("Needs_Change").checked=false; } } function undo_Complete() { if (document.getElementById("Needs_Change").checked==true) { document.getElementById("Complete").checked=false; } } </script> I call them from the checkboxes involved: Code: <input name="Complete" id="Complete" value="Yes" <?php echo($Complete=="Yes") ? "checked" : ""; ?> size="4" type="checkbox" onChange="this.style.color='#FF0000'" onClick="undo_Changes()"> <input name="Needs_Change" id="Needs_Change" value="Yes" <?php echo($Needs_Change=="Yes") ? "checked" : ""; ?> size="4" type="checkbox" onClick="undo_Complete()"> Here's how my forms are named: Code: <?php $DocName = "Schedule".$count; ?> <form name="<?php echo $DocName; ?>" action="ScheduleCode.php" method="post" id="<?php echo $DocName; ?>"> I've tried the following and it doesn't work at all: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function undo_Changes(myForm) { if (myForm.getElementById("Complete").checked==true) { myForm.getElementById("Needs_Change").checked=false; } } function undo_Complete(myForm) { if (myForm.getElementById("Needs_Change").checked==true) { myForm.getElementById("Complete").checked=false; } } </script> <input name="Complete" id="Complete" value="Yes" <?php echo($Complete=="Yes") ? "checked" : ""; ?> size="4" type="checkbox" onChange="this.style.color='#FF0000'" onClick="undo_Changes(this.form)"> <input name="Needs_Change" id="Needs_Change" value="Yes" <?php echo($Needs_Change=="Yes") ? "checked" : ""; ?> size="4" type="checkbox" onClick="undo_Complete(this.form)"> Thanks for any help. Lisa Similar TutorialsI am fairly new to javascript and am attempting to create a function that will clear one checkbox when another is checked. I have multiple forms with dynamically generated names on the page. Here is what I have: <script type="text/javascript"> function undo_Complete(myForm) { var formName = myForm.name; if(document.formName.getElementsByName("Needs_Change").checked==true) { document.formName.getElementsByName("Complete").checked=false; } } </script> The two checkbox fields involved: <input name="Complete" value="Yes" <?php echo($Complete=="Yes") ? I was able to achieve what i want with "new" constructor when creating functions but this is not a good practice and after all i am passing these functions as an event handler and it cant be done with "new" keyword because it is throwing error. I think there are some solutions with arrays e.g the x would be an array of numbers, but i don't like it. Am i missing something important? Thanks for your replies. Hello, so I'm trying to call multiple functions with onClick. It doesnt really work, just wondering why. Advice or tips would be nice, thank you guys for your time. By the way this is a project for school so the comments are for my professor Code: <head> <title>Untitled Document</title> <script type="text/javascript"> //hello, this code doesn't work, I did it piece by piece so the bits work, but when I combined them, it stopped working function texter(newText){ var oldHTML = document.getElementById('outputPrompt').innerHTML; document.getElementById('outputPrompt').innerHTML = newText+"<br />"+oldHTML; console.log(newText); } // texter function from class function menuMain(){ var userInput = document.getElementById('input').value; var mainMenu; if (userInput == "3"){ mainMenu = menuThree(); } else if (userInput== "2") { mainMenu = menuTwo(); } else if (userInput== "1") { mainMenu = menuOne(); } texter(mainMenu) } //going to the functions by calling them function menuOne(){ var userInput = document.getElementById('input').value; if (userInput.length == 0){ texter("You need to enter something in the input box"); } else { texter("the string has been saved"); } } // if the length is equal to zero then there was nothing inputted function menuTwo() { var userInput = document.getElementById('input').value; var theArray = userInput.split(/\s|\n|\r/); //split string into words array i looked up the regex on coding forums //also had help to create this from coding forums var WordsFound = [i]; for (var i=0; i<theArray.length-0; i++) { if (theArray[i].length < 5) { WordsFound.push('eep- '+theArray[i]); } else { if (theArray[i].length > 5) { WordsFound.push(theArrray[i]+' -zzz'); } else { WordsFound.push(theArray[i]); } } } document.getElementById('outputPrompt').innerHTML = WordsFound.join('<br>'); } // if the array length is less than five the word will push it onto the array // vise versa with the array length being more than five //then i join the word with the array function menuThree() { var userInput = document.getElementById('outputPrompt').reset(); } //reset the output function combineFunctions() { menuMain(); menuOne(); menuTwo(); menuThree(); } // combining the functions into one function so i can call it on onclick function cleartext(){ document.getElementById('input').value=""; } </script> </head> <body> <h1>RoboSpeek</h1> <textarea type='text' id='input' onfocus="cleartext()" cols="40"rows="10" wrap="physical"> Please enter 1,2,3 or Exit</textarea><br /> <input type='button' onclick='combineFunctions()' value='submit'/> <p id='outputPrompt'>Please enter 1,2,3 or exit only</b> </p> </body> </html> hey all, I am now at the point of being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel (woot!). After a lot of help from you guys I have tackled my RSS feed issue (sort of) to the point where i have a page that does basically what I need it to (http://www.the-rational-investor.com/test042311.php/). I now need to incorporate this java script developed into the big picture and of course, there seems to be problems. Since I know it works on its own, I must be running into problems getting all the functions working simultaneously and I once again need to call on the board's brilliance in figuring out what I am doing wrong....so here it goes I have taken out a lot of unnecessary code just to focus on the java script. I also have an email format validation function which is not working. Any help would be hightly appreciated. We'll call my 3 forms A, B, and C. By default my page shows form A. The other 2 forms I have hidden via display:none My issue is when I have form B or C showing. Once I hit submit, say within form B for example, I'd like this form to remain for future entries/submital of data. However, instead what happens is form A appears. How do I get form B to remain, allowing for a user to submit multiple entries of data without going back to form A? Here's my code for form 'B' <div id="branches_info" style=" <?php echo $display_branches; ?> "> form method="post" action="annual_report_main.php" onsubmit="return validateBranches(this);"> <fieldset> <p><strong>Branch Location</strong></p><br /> <label for="branch_address" class="long">Street Address:</label> <input maxlength="50" type="text" name="branch_address" id="branch_address" value="<?php echo htmlentities($_POST['branch_address']);?>" /><br /> <div class="cleaner"></div> <label for="branch_city" class="long">City:</label> <input maxlength="20" type="text" name="branch_city" id="branch_city" value="<?php echo htmlentities($_POST['branch_city']);?>" /><br /> <div class="cleaner"></div> <label for="branch_state" class="long">State:</label> <input maxlength="2" type="text" name="branch_state" id="branch_state" value="<?php echo htmlentities($_POST['branch_state']);?>" /><br /> <div class="cleaner"></div> <label for="branch_zip" class="long">Zip Code:</label> <input maxlength="10" type="text" name="branch_zip" id="branch_zip" value="<?php echo htmlentities($_POST['branch_zip']);?>" /><br /> <div class="cleaner"></div> <div class="content_onecolumn"> <input type="submit" name="Branches" value="Submit to Database" class="inputSubmit" /> </div> <div class="content_onecolumn"> <input type="button" name="Finished" value="Finished" class="inputSubmit" onclick="window.open('https://www.dca.ca.gov/webapps/bppe/thankyou.php');return false" /> </div> </fieldset> </form> </div> i have a multiple checkbox of options1,options2,options3,options4.i want to do when i add options1,options2,options3 it will shows on the database.and when i will go to my edit page it will shows that the options1,options2And options3 are already checked.how can i do this?please anybody help me .my code is below body portion <body> <form name="name" method="post" id="f1" action="insertpage.php"> <fieldset><legend align="center">Page Information</legend> Page Title:<input type="text" name="pagetitle" /> <br /> page Description:<textarea name="pagedescription"></textarea> <br /> Keywords:<input type="text" name="keywords"><br /> Content:<textarea name="content"></textarea><br /> <INPUT NAME="options" TYPE="CHECKBOX" value="1"> Option 1<BR> <INPUT NAME="options" TYPE="CHECKBOX" VALUE="2"> Option 2<BR> <INPUT NAME="options" TYPE="CHECKBOX" VALUE="3"> Option 3<BR> <INPUT NAME="options" TYPE="CHECKBOX" VALUE="4"> Option 4<BR> <input type="submit" value="Add" id="f1" name="submit"> </fieldset> </form> </body> insert page <?php include 'config.php'; //require_once 'includes/sessions.php'; $pt=$_REQUEST['pagetitle']; $md=$_REQUEST['pagedescription']; $mk=$_REQUEST['keywords']; $mc=$_REQUEST['content']; $chk=$_REQUEST['options']; $sql="insert into `page`(`page_title`,`meta_des`,`meta_keywords`,`meta_content`,`checkbox1`)values('$pt','$md','$mk',' $mc','$chk')"; $r=mysql_query($sql) or die ("Couldn't select" . mysql_error()); ?> edit page <?php $id=$_REQUEST['id']; $pt=$_REQUEST['pagetitle']; $md=$_REQUEST['pagedescription']; $mk=$_REQUEST['keywords']; $mc=$_REQUEST['content']; $chk=$_REQUEST['options']; $sql="update `page` set `page_title`='$pt',`meta_des`='$md',`meta_keywords`='$mk',`meta_content`='$mc',`checkbox1`='$chk' where `page_id`='$id'"; $r=mysql_query($sql)or die ("Couldn't select" . mysql_error()); header("locationage1.php?id=<?php echo $id;?>"); ?> <?php session_start(); //require_once 'includes/sessions.php'; include 'config.php'; $id=$_REQUEST['id']; $query="select * from `page` where page_id=".$id; $result=mysql_query($query) or die ("Couldn't select" . mysql_error()); $row=mysql_fetch_array($result); ?> editview page <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> <form name="name" method="post" id="f1" action="page2.php?id=<?php echo $id;?>"> <fieldset><legend align="center">Page Information</legend> Page Title:<input type="text" name="pagetitle" value="<?php echo $row['page_title'];?>" /> <br /> page Description:<textarea name="pagedescription" ><?php echo $row['meta_des'];?></textarea> <br /> Keywords:<input type="text" name="keywords" value="<?php echo $row['meta_keywords'];?>"/><br /> Content:<textarea name="content"><?php echo $row['meta_content'];?></textarea><br /> <INPUT NAME="options" TYPE="CHECKBOX" VALUE="<?php echo $row['checkbox'];?>"> Option 1<BR> <INPUT NAME="options" TYPE="CHECKBOX" VALUE="<?php echo $row['checkbox'];?>"> Option 2<BR> <INPUT NAME="options" TYPE="CHECKBOX" VALUE="<?php echo $row['checkbox'];?>"> Option 3<BR> <INPUT NAME="options" TYPE="CHECKBOX" VALUE="<?php echo $row['checkbox'];?>"> Option 4<BR> <input type="submit" value="Update" id="f1" name="submit"> </fieldset> </form> </body> Hello, Ok so the following code works. Code: function myFunction(myName) { alert("You are "+myName); } callFunction = "myFunction"; parameter = "Joe"; window[callFunction](parameter); However this code doesn't work: Code: function myFunction(myName, myAge) { alert("You are "+myName+" and "+myAge+" years old."); } callFunction = "myFunction"; parameter = "Bill,15"; parameter = parameter.split(","); window[callFunction](parameter); The above code alerts: "You are Bill,15 and undefined years old." Thanks for the help! Every time I try to use the notEmpty function with an onClick event, the validation stops working. I also need to implement a pop-up that gives me this information - alert("Your name is"+firstname +lastname", your G.P.A. is "+gpa "your phone number is "+phone); anytime I try to use it as a function with onClick, it interrupts the validation as well. I can find how to add multiple fields, but what if they reside on different forms on the same page? For example, here is my code with two forms: Code: <FORM name="form1"> <b>Size</b><input type="text" size="12" value="" name="size">* <b>Qty</b><input type="text" size="4" value="" name="qty" onkeyup="convert_to_feet(this.form);calculate_lbs(this.form)"> <b>-</b> <input type=text size="10" value="" name="a1" onkeyup="convert_to_feet(this.form);calculate_lbs(this.form)"><b>mm</b> <input type="text" size="15" value="" name="xtra">* <input type="hidden" size="4" value="304.8" name="b1"> <input type="hidden" value="0" name="ans1" size="10"> <input type="text" size="5" value="0" name="w1" onkeyup="convert_to_feet(this.form);calculate_lbs(this.form)"><b>Lbs/Foot</b> <input type="text" size="7" value="0" name="tw1" readonly="readonly"><b>Total Lbs<b> </FORM> <FORM name="form2"> <b>Size</b><input type="text" size="12" value="" name="size">* <b>Qty</b><input type="text" size="4" value="" name="qty" onkeyup="convert_to_feet(this.form);calculate_lbs(this.form)"> <b>-</b> <input type=text size="10" value="" name="a1" onkeyup="convert_to_feet(this.form);calculate_lbs(this.form)"><b>mm</b> <input type="text" size="15" value="" name="xtra">* <input type="hidden" size="4" value="304.8" name="b1"> <input type="hidden" value="0" name="ans1" size="10"> <input type="text" size="5" value="0" name="w1" onkeyup="convert_to_feet(this.form);calculate_lbs(this.form)"><b>Lbs/Foot</b> <input type="text" size="7" value="0" name="tw1"><b>Total Lbs<b> </FORM> In this example, I want to sum the two fields named "tw1" (the last field on each form) into a text box. Is this possible? Hello all, I am trying to update a site that has a cookie feature enabled so that a certificate can be retrieved later on. I am using a form to collect and put the cookie, but I have to use two buttons to get the information stored and then direct the user on through to the rest of the site. My question is: Can I combine these functions into the same button? I have scoured the web for solutions, but I can't seem to find anyone doing this exact thing. I know that websites do this type of thing all of the time. Here is the code that I am using. I am an html / css person. I am just getting into js. It is ugly, but I'm coping Code: <body> <div id="header"> </div> <div id="main"><br> <h2><SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> cookie_name = "dataCookie"; var YouEntered; function putCookie() { if(document.cookie != document.cookie) {index = document.cookie.indexOf(cookie_name);} else { index = -1;} if (index == -1) { YouEntered=document.cf.cfd.value; document.cookie=cookie_name+"="+YouEntered+"; expires=Saturday, 31-Dec-2011 23:59:59 GMT"; } } </SCRIPT> <FORM NAME="cf"> Enter Your Full Name as you would like it to appear on the completion certificate: <br> <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="cfd" size="20"> <INPUT TYPE="button" Value="Enter" onClick="putCookie()"> </FORM> <h6>Select Continue to review the information</h6> <FORM METHOD="LINK" ACTION="cookie_2.htm"> <INPUT TYPE="submit" VALUE="Continue with Training"> </FORM></h2> </div> <div id="footer"> </div> </body> Hello. I have a for loop, that automatically creates textfields and checkboxes. These of course have the same name and I am using request.getParameterValues to retrieve them. However, I am struggling on this rather simple issue. I am no javascript guru, so maybe you guys could help me out. I have tried googling for this answer, but havent found anything that can help my problem exactly. I have three text fields on each row and one checkbox. I would like for each checkbox I click, that the textfields to be enabled. A sample code he Code: <td><input type="text" size="10" name="pris" disabled="disabled"></td> <td><input type="text" size="10" name="toppfart" disabled="disabled"></td> <td><input type="text" size="10" name="motorinstallasjon" disabled="disabled"></td> <td><input type="checkbox" name="motorCheckbox" value="<%=motor.getId()%>" onclick="(pris.disabled=!this.checked)& (toppfart.disabled=!this.checked)& (motorinstallasjon.disabled=!this.checked)"> </td> However this doesnt quite work :-) I have tried with document.Form.pris but that didnt help either. fyi, I have limited experience with web programming (even less with javascript). I am trying to search a database of molecules and display several columns for each returned molecule in a table in a new page (view_all.cgi). Within this table I have a button for each molecule from the database which I would like to be able to click it and view all of it's information in a new page (view_one.cgi) However, I also have a column in my table in view_all.cgi filled with check boxes so that only some of the returned molecules can be checked and then downloaded using a script (get_checked.cgi). QUESTION: How can I handle the table data so that one button sends one row of the table to view_one.cgi, while another button sends multiple columns of the table to get_checked.cgi without using nested forms? Thanks, Tom EDIT: A better question. I have the first part of my question working (sending one row of a table to view_one.cgi). So, using javascript, how can I get the status (checked/unchecked) of all the check boxes on a page and send the information to get_checked.cgi? Hello, I'm trying to make a simple webpage with two input text boxes that when submitted when empty, I'll get an error pop-up telling me which ones are empty, both, first name, or last name. When there's only one if, the script works. But when there's multiple else ifs, nothing happens if I press submit. Can someone help me? Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function validateForm() { var x=document.forms["myForm"]["firstname"].value; var y=document.forms["myForm"]["lastname"].value; if (x==null || x=="" && y==null || y=="") { alert("Please put in your first and last name."); return false; } else if (x==null || x=="") { alert("Please put in your first name."); return false; } else if (y==null || y=="") { alert("Please put in your last name."); return false: } } </script> </head> <body> <form name="myForm"> First name: <input type="text" name="firstname"><br> Last name: <input type="text" name="lastname"> <input type="submit" value="Submit" onclick="validateForm()"> </form> </body> </html> |
