I need some help with validating the password strength of my form.

I am actually looking for a regular expression that could force the users to have at least 2 of the following:

1. Upper and lower case.
2. Numbers
3. Symbols.

Why should we use this:

Instead of this?

/\s/.test(node.nodeValue)

I have the following regex pattern:

var patt=/(&(?=(amp|apos|gt|lt|quot)|[^&])+/;

It's validation to ensure that any ampersand sign is followed by amp;, apos;, gt;, lt;, or qout;. It should validate any other character except the aforementioned ampersand case.

The regex checks out ok on all online regex testers. however, when i apply it to javascript via the test() method, things that return a fail in the testers return true with the js test() method, so the validation isn't working for me right now in javascript.

e.g.

var testStr = 'someString&amp'; //should fail
var testStr2 = 'someString&'; //should pass
however, calling patt.test(testStr); returns true when it should be returning false...

Thanks for any input and help you all have to offer. I've been beating this to death for about 3 hours and I'm a little stuck on it..

Hey, I'm struggling to add twitter links using the current method I'm trying and I really need some help from someone with more knowledge than I.

So here's the current attempt and along side is a working function that returns the html sent to it back with the links working.

I need to devise a way to pick through and change the @twitternames to links.
I thought I had it, but when I combined the actions into the script (it's a search engine for twitter subjects) ,the links get the right html, but I can't find a way to make the twitter links work correctly.

I tried to follow the same formula as the working function ADD_links, but I just can't seem to understand the notation or something.

Also, is $1 part of Regex? And $2? I saw several scripts that were for doing what I want to do , but they all seemed to be php scripts and I couldn't adapt any of them despite countless hours trying.

I am new to this forum.. and I am hoping to get help with this javascript validation for my form for my assignment. trying to validate multiple fields. I have never done javascript, so with my limited understanding from Google, I put together code snippets.

Problems:
1. How can I get one message box when the user presses submit indicating all failed validation at one time

Hi guys, just need help so when there is no input into card number, postcode, what are you after, delivery address an error message comes up. Also I need to make it so when someone puts numbers in the first and last name or letters in the postcode it will come up error. I have done this for first and lastname but when I copy my code and try and put it on the others then no javascript works.

When I run it on my server, I get the form and enter nothing into it, I just click submit. However, it goes straight to the php file and brings up my flash movie, which it shouldnt do. When nothing is entered, the js file should return the error. I thought I had everything set up correctly, but obviously not. Can someone see where I am going wrong?

I have a validation issue. I need the input fields to highlight yellow if no text has been entered and when the form is submitted the error message displays to check the highlighted fields.
I get the input boxes to highlight when there is no text but on submit the form goes to the next page without the error alert message.

Hi,

I am working on simple project and it's for the institute Class project where i am learning php. i have to submit the project as soon as possible. But i am doing it different way then of i was supposed. Instead of validation message i want to use a picture or icon with Red error icon and Green yes icon as you can check in the attached picture. I am calling a function on submit button and if there is any error then using document.GetElementById('error').style.background="none" and ="pic url". I am getting output but it's just for a second then disappeared. I have already attached the Screen Shot to get the full idea..

Mainly i want to display red icon on error and green one when there is not error.

Hi,

I've been helped out and given a great code for part of the validation, the problem is I have tried to adapt it on subsequent fields and my validation has stopped working. I am including the email validation which works and then confirm email, select sex and select year of birth, none of the latter three work. Hi Guys,

I have trying to validate my form using JavaScript.

On blur of the a text box I am calling a function in JavaScript which checks if the text box is empty or not....

If the text box is empty it display an appropriate error message.

The issue I am facing is that, for the first time if any user does not enter any value in the text box, the JS function is invoked and an appropriate error message is displayed....

So when the user tried to enter a value in the text box, a drop down list appear from the past forms data.
(The drop down value appear because the user has already filled in the form in the past. Hence the Browser remember the data filed in, and displays it as a drop down list.)

This allows the user to select any values from the drop down list to fill in the box.*

After the user has selected the appropriate value from the drop down and takes its mouse cursor and navigates to another text box in the form, the first error message does not disappear.

The form does not recognize that the value filed has already been filled in the first filed.*

If the user actually types into the field it recognizes that the text box has a filed is filled.

Please may I know how to solve this issue.
