JavaScript - Replace Words That Comes From Rss Feed
Similar TutorialsHello I have this snippet for controlling the number of characters entered in a textarea. It works. But, if I replace in this code the name "my_form" by "contact-form" and "my_text" by "message", it doesnt ! It looks like the keyword is " my_form ". You change that , and the script will not work! It turns out that I have to change those names because the form as it was already had those names my_form and message before I added this counter And I dont want to replace the names of the form in order to adapt them to this code snippet below. The question is why would the script not work if I have just replaced two words, which dont seem to be keywords of JS programming (my_form and my_text) <html><head> <title>(Type a title for your page here)</title> <script language=JavaScript> <!-- function check_length(my_form) { maxLen = 50; // max number of characters allowed if (my_form.my_text.value.length >= maxLen) { // Alert message if maximum limit is reached. // If required Alert can be removed. var msg = "You have reached your maximum limit of characters allowed"; alert(msg); // Reached the Maximum length so trim the textarea my_form.my_text.value = my_form.my_text.value.substring(0, maxLen); } else{ // Maximum length not reached so update the value of my_text counter my_form.text_num.value = maxLen - my_form.my_text.value.length;} } //--> </script> </head> <body> <form name=my_form method=post> <textarea onKeyPress=check_length(this.form); onKeyDown=check_length(this.form); name=my_text rows=4 cols=30></textarea> <br> <input size=1 value=50 name=text_num> Characters Left </form> </body> </html> i am trying to make an online graphing calculator with javascript. dont ask how because i dont know. but there is an annoying error in a do...while loop. although it should break out of the loop when the |'s (absolute value signs) are replaced with Math.abs( and ). here is the code. Code: var initec = function(){ var rg = { } ; rg.matc = false; rg.i = 0; rg.change = function(equ){ if (typeof(equ) != "string"){ alert('Equation must be a string'); return; } alert("starting equation: "+ equ); rg.i = 0; do{ rg.matc = equ.match(/\|/); if(rg.i === 0){ equ.replace(/\|/, " Math.abs("); rg.i = 1; alert("1 "+equ); } else { equ.replace(/\|/, " ) "); rg.i = 0; alert("0 "+equ); } }while(rg.matc) alert("finished equation: " + equ); } return rg; } rg=initec(); rg.change("|8/x+7|-2"); the last 2 lines and the alerts are for debugging. as you can see, it is not finished. but still, it should work. I'm trying to get two RSS feeds to display on a page. I'm trying to be good about it and re-use the same code for each by calling the function twice using different parameters for the feed url, feed limit (number of posts to display), and which div to display the output in (cupcake-feed and pie-feed). It works for either of the two feeds, but not both at the same time. If I try calling both, only the second one displays. If I pick just one to call, either one will display. I'm new to object-oriented concepts (if that's even what you would call this?). What am I doing wrong here? I have an array of strings, like this: var strings= [ "car", "black", "word", "small", "paper", "doom", "elemental", "sword", "mouse" ]; Now i got a function newgame() and i wanna display random word from this array in rectangles gray styled... Here is the problem. I can make to display random words, but i dont know how i make this words with the css style together - rectangels around a char. But the words are different length so i dunno? When i press newgame button, i want for example to random a word from the array: for example word "paper" then i want it to be displayed like this [p] [a] [p] [e] [r], where [ ] are rectangels around the chars ( with the css style, like this: border: 1px solid #000; width:10px; background-color:gray; text-align:justify; padding: 5px 10px; i make a gray rectangle border around the char, but how can i make it work with random words? How can i make it work? Any help please! Hi Someone know any script for division of words into syllables? The issue is with the hardcoded RSS url feed. I want this to be dynamically passed as a variable to the java script. I use a PHP code, where this javascript is coded. In the below code, if I say var samples = <?php $url_code ?>, the javascript does not recognize. Can someone help on this, as I use the same PHP code, with different url feeds, to display different picasa photo albums ? Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function load() { var samples = "https://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/base/user/......................../........./.........?alt=rss&kind=photo&authkey=.....................&hl=en_US" var options = { numresults: 2, scaleimages: true, maintainAspectRatio : false, displayTime: 1000, transistionTime: 300, //linkTarget : google.feeds.LINK_TARGET_BLANK }; new GFslideShow(samples, "slideshow", options); } google.load("feeds", "1"); google.setOnLoadCallback(load); </script> Sorry, relative newbie here with what is probably a silly question. When I include the code to create a slideshow found here and then later in the page use the feed informer code to display posts from my blog ( <script type="text/javascript" src="http://app.feed.informer.com/digest3/39SQ9SPCHY.js">...) I am getting a syntax error message at the feedinformer code in dreamweaver and I can not figure out the problem. Any help would be appreciated, thank you I'm quite new to javascript programming, I basically want to parse a JSON string from an external URL. http://cashtrackr.com/piwik/index.ph...9d8d472cc9974a This is the json string URL and I just want to output the contents of "nb_visits" for example. I would also like to know the terms for a JSON string "?" : ? thanks for your time Hello, first time poster here. I have very little understanding of Javascript and have a problem with some I'm using. It's a singleline twitter feed and you can see it top right he http://zest.explosiveapps.com/navigation.php Code: // Compatability with jQuery: jQuery.noConflict(); window.$ = function (element) { return document.getElementById(element); }; /* Header and footer JavaScript */ jQuery(document).ready(function() { var $ = jQuery; function scroll_tweet(li){ var post = li.children("div.post"), pWidth = post.width(); if (pWidth > parseInt(balloon.css('width'))){ var leftEnd = li.find('div.end'); if(leftEnd.length === 0){ leftEnd = $('<div class="end left" />').appendTo(li); } var offsX = parseInt(leftEnd.width()); post.animate({left: offsX - pWidth - 55}, 23000, 'linear', function(){post.css('left', offsX);}); } } function swap_tweets(current_tweet){ var next_tweet = (current_tweet + 1) % 5; /* max five tweets */ var li = $("li#tweet" + next_tweet); $("#tweet" + current_tweet).fadeOut(300); setTimeout(function(){ li.fadeIn(400); }, 400); setTimeout(function(){scroll_tweet(li);}, 3800); display_tweet = next_tweet; setTimeout(function(){swap_tweets(display_tweet);}, 11300); } var balloon = $("#twitterpost div.balloon"); display_tweet = 0; if($("div.balloon ul li#tweet1").html() !== null){ setTimeout(function(){swap_tweets(display_tweet);}, 12000); var firstli = $("li#tweet0"); setTimeout(function(){scroll_tweet(firstli);}, 7500); } }); As you can see from just watching, it has some problems. It doesn't fade out posts before displaying a new one. From what I understand it talks to the CSS to figure out the length. So maybe that's where the problem is. Code: /* twitter-bubble */ #navigation #twitterpost { position: relative; top: -33px; right: 95px; } #navigation #twitterpost .balloon { position: relative; float: right; width: 345px; height: 21px; overflow: hidden; margin-top: 0px; padding: 0; background: url(/navigation/images/bubble.png) 0 0 no-repeat; font-family: "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans Unicode", Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; } #navigation #twitterpost .balloon div { font-family: "Lucida Grande", "Lucida Sans Unicode", Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; color: #666666; padding: 0px 0px 12px 10px; font-size: 11px; } #navigation #twitterpost .end { position: absolute; top: 0; z-index: 1; height: 21px; background: url(/navigation/images/bubble.png) no-repeat; } #navigation #twitterpost .end.left { left: 0; width: 0px; background-position: 0 0; } #navigation #twitterpost .end.right { right: 0; width: 0px; background-position: 100% 0; } #navigation #twitterpost ul li .post { position: relative; } #navigation #twitterpost ul li .post { font-size: 11px; white-space: nowrap; position: absolute; top: 3px; } #navigation #twitterpost ul { padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; list-style-type: none; } Or maybe it has something to do with using this script http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs.../jquery.min.js Thank you for take a look at my mess! Sorry for being such an amateur. And by the way, everything is wip on that site Cheers M. I pulled together a custom RSS twitter feed that uses javascript; however, when I tell the code to "callback" 3 posts, they all run together without line breaks. I'm trying to find a much simpler way than this current script I am using to generate and print a random word. I don't want to have to name each word but instead just include a very large list of about 300,000 words that javascript uses to pull a random word out of. Can you please help me out?? The list of words I have is a straight list with no commas or anything. I am currently outputting to a text box, but I am looking to generate words according to users input. For example, a user wants 500 words starting with the letter "b" and is less than 5 characters long appended to the character "de." Any help would be awesome! Even a right direction. I'm also willing to pay some for such a script if need be. Thanks! Here's my code: Code: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> <!-- var NumberOfWords = 28 var words = new BuildArray(NumberOfWords) words[1] = "czarevitch" words[2] = "brightwork" words[3] = "verkrampte" words[4] = "protectrix" words[5] = "nudibranch" words[6] = "grandchild" words[7] = "newfangled" words[8] = "flugelhorn" words[9] = "mythologer" words[10] = "pluperfect" words[11] = "jellygraph" words[12] = "quickthorn" words[13] = "rottweiler" words[14] = "technician" words[15] = "cowpuncher" words[16] = "middlebrow" words[17] = "jackhammer" words[18] = "triphthong" words[19] = "wunderkind" words[20] = "dazzlement" words[21] = "jabberwock" words[22] = "witchcraft" words[23] = "pawnbroker" words[24] = "thumbprint" words[25] = "motorcycle" words[26] = "cryptogram" words[27] = "torchlight" words[28] = "bankruptcy" function BuildArray(size){ this.length = size for (var i = 1; i <= size; i++){ this[i] = null} return this } function PickRandomWord(frm) { var rnd = Math.ceil(Math.random() * NumberOfWords) // Display the word inside the text box frm.WordBox.value = words[rnd] } //--> </SCRIPT> Hi guys, Do you know a function for banning certain words being inputted by the user eg I want to stop a user uploading offensive words and code tags like <script>, <div> etc.. and messing with the site display Thanks |
