JavaScript - Simple Form Data Collection - 1-field - Do It In Js?
Hello all,
I am working on my website at http://www.productreviewsbytyler.com, and I have a little box with one input field for e-mail address collection. I am a novice who doesn't know what is the optimal solution for just collecting the data entered into the field. I have heard of scripts that test e-mail addresses. Confused Similar TutorialsHello i need help with a simple single field javascript login form, i am building a small website for I and my classmates. i want it to be able to redirect each user to a specific page when a corresponding passcode is entered, i know its unsafe but we dont plan on keeping valuable information on the site, i dont know about MSQL and dont even wish to use it, the code works at this level but am unable to add users since i dont understand javascript if someone could help me i will be very grateful thanks in advance /*here is the code i got so far*/ <tittle> Enter Passcode to proceed </title> <h1 style="font-family:Comic Sans Ms;text-align="center";font-size:20pt; color:#00FF00;> </h1> <form name="login"> Passcode: <input type="text" name="userid"/> <input type="button" onclick="check(this.form)" value="Login"/> <input type="reset" value="Cancel"/> </form> <script language="javascript"> function check(form)/*function to check userid */ { if(form.userid.value == "JohnDoe") /* checkes userid */ { window.open("johndoe.php")/*target page */ } else { alert("Invalid Passcode, please try again!")/*error message*/ } } For various reasons, I need the value of my drop down box options to contain size information rather than price. However I would like to be able to calculate a price for the items based on what size the user selects as well as the quantity. Below is the code I came up with (which doesn't work obviously) What can I do to get this to work for me? Thanks in advance for any help! Code: <head> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function calc(A,B,SUM) { var price = document.getElementById(A).extrainfo; var quantity = document.getElementById(B).value; document.getElementById(SUM).value = price * quantity; } //--> </script> </head> <body> <label>T-Shirt: <select name="T_SHIRT" id="T_SHIRT" onchange="calc('T_SHIRT','Tshirt_QTY','total');"> <option selected="selected">CHOOSE A SIZE </option> <option value="SIZE: SMALL" extrainfo="10.99">Small, 34/36 (S) </option> <option value="SIZE: MEDIUM" extrainfo="11.99">Medium, 38/40 (M) </option> <option value="SIZE LARGE" extrainfo="12.99">Large, 42/44 (L) </option> </select> </label> <label>QTY: <input type="text" id="Tshirt_QTY" name="Tshirt_QTY" onchange="calc('T_SHIRT','Tshirt_QTY','total')" /> </label> <label>Price: <input type="text" readonly="readonly" name="total" id="total"/> </label> </body> Hi guys,I was thinking about the code to : write something inside the text box and if the word entered is equal "hero" for example the box next to it will turn green means correct, otherwise it will turn red means wrong, and if nothing entered it stays white. I really like to know how we code that in javascript using functions, without any CSS or anything else. That means we have 2 objects a text box and a rectangle for feedback color. Remark: there is no button at all, the validation will be each time you are typing. A Bonus question : if someday we decide to change the color with pictures , is it possible to do that? Thank you very much for your help, much appreciate it. Hi all, I am creating a simple 3 field calculator that calculates net, vat and gross. The user has to input 2 of the 3 fields, hit calculate and it should fill the 3rd field. I have so far succeeded with the net field (enter in gross and vat) but the other 2 throw up spurious results! I have worked out these equations (they work on a calculator) Net = G - (( G * V ) / ( V + 100 )) VAT = (( G - N ) x 100 ) / N Gross = N + ( N x ( V / 100 )) Heres the code for the javascript Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function netvatgross_calc() { var net = (Number(document.calc.gross.value))-(((Number(document.calc.gross.value)) * (Number(document.calc.vat.value)))/((Number(document.calc.vat.value))+100)); var net = net.toFixed(2); document.calc.net.value=net; var vat = (((Number(document.calc.gross.value))-(Number(document.calc.net.value)))*100)/(Number(document.calc.net.value)); var vat = vat.toFixed(2); document.calc.vat.value=vat; var gross = (Number(document.calc.net.value))+((Number(document.calc.vat.value))/100)*(Number(document.calc.net.value)); var gross = gross.toFixed(2); document.calc.gross.value=gross; } </script> Here's the work in progress I am also wanting to add some code to throw up an error if less or more than 2 values have been entered. What am I doing wrong? Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers Dan Hi - New to Javascript - new to the forum... Here's one that I don't understand: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> fso = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject"); myCollection = new Collection(); function FindFiles() { var path = "c:\\files\\"; var ext = ".csv"; var files = new Enumerator (fso.GetFolder(path).Files); //Collect all files in path do { var file = files.item(); if (file.Name.indexOf("_summary")<0) myCollection.add(file.Name,file.Type); files.moveNext(); } while (!files.atEnd()); } function Collection() { var collection = {}; var order = []; this.add = function(property, value) { if(!this.exists(property)) { collection[property]=value; order.push(property); } } this.exists = function(property) { return collection[property]!=null; } } function ListCollection() { var g = new Enumerator (myCollection); do { var colitem = g.item(); g.moveNext(); } while (!g.atEnd()); } </script> During execution, I get a "Object not a collection" error when I try to pass "MyCollection" to the Enumerator function. What am I missing? Thanks, Max I've set up a mock registration form page so I can learn a bit about javascript's form validation. (newbie) I want to try to attempt to style the border of a form field green when the user enters the correct info into the form text field and red on all other fields if the user doesnt enter any info into them. When i test it, enter the right info into the username field, leave the others blank, and hit the submit button it styles the username field green ok but it doesnt make the next fields (password and so on) red. Could someone please explain what I am doing wrong? here is my code so far... Note: just for testing purposes I've put return false on everything so it displays a message when everythings ok. Code: .... <script type="text/javascript"> window.onload = function() { document.forms[0].username.focus(); } function validate(form) { var form = document.getElementById("reg"); var e = document.getElementById("error"); e.style.background = "red"; for(var i = 0; i < form.elements.length; i++) { var el = form.elements[i]; if(el.type == "text" || el.type == "password") { if(el.value == "") { e.innerHTML = "Please fill in all fields!"; el.style.border = "1px solid red"; el.focus(); return false; } else { el.style.border = "1px solid green"; return false; } } } var un = form.username; un.value = un.value.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,""); if((un.value.length < 3)|| (/[^a-z0-9\_]/gi.test(un.value))) { e.innerHTML = "Only letters, numbers and the underscore are allowed (no spaces) - 3-16 characters"; un.focus(); return false; } var pw = form.password; pw.value = pw.value.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,""); if((pw.value.length < 3) || (/[^a-z0-9]/gi.test(pw.value))) { e.innerHTML = "Only letters and numbers are allowed (no spaces) - 3-16 characters"; pw.focus(); return false; } e.innerHTML = "You filled in all the fields, well done!"; e.style.background = "green"; return false; } </script> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="header"> <h1>My Cool Website</h1> </div> <div id="content"> <div class="padding"> <h2>Registration</h2> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. I Thank you for any help. I have a very interesting situation and I'm just looking for ideas at the moment. I have a webpage for insurance agents that the agent will login and then enter some insured information. There is a field named "agentnumber" that is on the form, but is hidden by a display:none. The field is set from the username of the person who logs in whenever the form loads the first time. The form will save automatically when the user leaves the page. I am experiencing a weird issue that every now and then, the agentnumber field is getting saved with incorrect data. After discussing it with the agent, it is being saved with the agentnumber of the agent from other companies, not from the my website. Just looking for any ideas on what may be happening as I thought browser security would prevent cross site javascript. The users are using IE 7 & IE 8. Any help would be appreciated as I'm not even sure what to look for. I need to learn how to clear form fields when a user clicks on them. Here is the site in question: http://www.yourvancouvermortgagebroker.ca/apply They used to work, but then I changed the field value and now it doesn't work on some of the fields (whichever ones I changed). Here is a link to the .js file: http://www.yourvancouvermortgagebroker.ca/js/apply.js Hi there, I have a html form, and I need it so that when a user clicks a button, it adds a field into the form. I also need it to write <td></td> around the new field, and I need it to write this in a specific part row of a table. How would I go about doing this? I've tried searching for the past two hours, but no luck. Many thanks, I appreciate it, Jason function checkValidFormInput() { if (document.getElementsByName('customerName').value != '') { document.getElementById('customerNameImg').innerHTML = '<img alt="Valid" src="images/greenTick.png">'; } else { document.getElementById('customerNameImg').innerHTML = '<img alt="Invalid" src="images/redX.png">'; } if (document.getElementsByName('customerEmail').length > 0) { document.getElementById('customerEmailImg').innerHTML = '<img alt="Valid" src="images/greenTick.png">'; } else { document.getElementById('customerEmailImg').innerHTML = '<img alt="Invalid" src="images/redX.png">'; } } I have a form which has various fields which are arrays (so the name of a field may be myField[]). The reason for this is that the form has add buttons to add another field or fields for the purpose of entering another email address, etc., to send invitations and do other things. The problem that I am running into is how to access the individual fields in an array of fields inside javascript to do form validation. So if I have an email address field name emailAddress[], and using the add button, the user of my site adds 3 other copies of the emailAddress[] field, I want to then do form validation onSubmit to ensure those email address are valid using standard procedures. However, inside the javascript code, how do I access the individual fields that make up emailAddress[]? I just cannot find anywhere online the proper way to get at these values. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Happy Holidays Hi! I could just about edit the JS function to slightly modify it from the tangorangers version (I only changed it v. slightly). To somehow increment the value in the hidden field each time the button is pressed is beyond me though! Any advice much appreciated.
