JavaScript - Dynamically Setting Height Of Iframe Problem
Similar TutorialsIs there a way to resize an iframe dynamically so that you never get the scroll bar and essentially hide that there is an iframe? Better integration really. Basically I want to iframe a forum into my site so that the design down the sides and top which my friend does using iweb are not messed with. We have a central area which can be longer or shorter depending on the forum. i want to set the second container's height according to the first container's.but how to achieve the height of the container dynamically. thank you! I'm developing a site for my wife's acupuncture practice (http://www.acupunctuurfengyun.be. Since I have two monitors (one wide screen, one square) attached to my computer I can verify how it will look in different resolutions. While doing so I came across a nasty thing: in some resolutions the content div is very small and not using all of the full browser window (left after the header section). Is it possible to make a change to the CSS min-height and max-height while the page is being loaded? I've looked into lots of samples but all depend on a click or mouse over event and didn't want to work with onload in the body tag. I've also thought about putting the stuff in the PHP part of my code but I am lost at this moment on how to do this. Could someone help me out here? I am building iframes from database entries. Is it possible to resize them with an onclick event?
Hi, I would like to know how I can use JavaScript to find the size of my iFrame and feed it to Shadowbox to launch the appropriate sized shadowbox on different browsers and resolutions. For me, the parent page is called 'demo.html' and the iFrame is 'gallery/archive_iframe.html'. Currently, the shadowbox is launched with a fixed height and width (which you will see in the HTML code below). The problem is that 'gallery/archive_iframe.html' displays differently on every browser and every resolution, causing unwanted horizontal and vertical scroll bars. An example can be seen he http://www.mikegermond.com/demo.html Here is the code that I use in 'demo.html' to launch the iFrame: Head Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="/shadowbox/libraries/mediaplayer/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/shadowbox/shadowbox.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src='/shadowbox/libraries/mediaplayer/swfobject.js'></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function moveCloseLink(){ var cb=document.getElementById('sb-nav-close'); var tb=document.getElementById('sb-title'); if(tb) tb.appendChild(cb); } Shadowbox.init({ onOpen: moveCloseLink, flvPlayer: '/shadowbox/player.swf', language: 'en', players: ["flv","iframe"], flashParams: {allowfullscreen:'true'}, flashVars: { skin: '/shadowbox/modieus.swf', image: '/upload/demo-poster.jpg', autostart: true } }); </script> Body Code: <A HREF="/gallery/archive_iframe.html" rel="shadowbox;width=750;height=486" class="imgLink" title="Video Archive"><img src="gallery/videoarchive_thm.jpg" alt="Launch Video Archive (popup window)" width="260" height="162" border="0" /></A> What do I need to do in 'gallery/archive_iframe.html' if anything? My thought is that I need to wrap it in a DIV tag and find the width and height of that. And what do I need to do in 'demo.html'? I'd assume some code is needed to pull the dimensions discovered in my iframe document, and insert those into the link that launches Shadowbox. Consider me a JavaScript newbie! You're help is greatly appreciated!! Hello! I am playing with CSS3 transitions to show/hide a DIV element. The application will be for a newsletter which will allow a user to show and hide article content. There will be multiple articles. I have a <DIV id="article1" class="content"> and the default height is 0px. When someone clicks the "show/hide article" link I set the height to 250px. A CSS transition on the content class (height) adds a smooth change from 0px to 250px. I have rigged up a simple Javascript function so that when someone clicks the "show/hide article" link, it checks the height of the DIV. If the div is 0px, it should expand the content, if not, it should shrink it. It works when you click the link the first time (i.e. the content div height is set to 250px and the transition works). But when you click it again, it does not set the height to 0px in order to hide the content. I think there is something wrong with the validation of document.getElementById(articleID).style.height ? Any ideas? Thank you! Basically, what I want to do is, I have developed a website http://www.ipjugaad.com, and on every document download page, I have placed an fb like button, what I want to do is that the like button should be automatically clicked when a user click on download button on my website. Give me some idea about how to do it? I'm slowly scraping away errors from a page im working on and ive found this forum to be very helpful- down to one more that i wanted to post on. sample page is he http://darrenlasso.com/freelance/loo.../lookbook.html Works fine in most all browsers except for IE8- ive even had to include built in ie7 compatibility to get it to work at all. Problem is most likely associated with my js, which is: Code: function ShowPage(frame) { frames[0].location = frame+'.html' } and html is: Code: <div id="thumb1"><a onmouseover="ShowPage('frame1')"onclick="ShowPage('frame1')" rel="nofollow" target="mainbox"></a></div> <div id="thumb2"><a onmouseover="ShowPage('frame2')"onclick="ShowPage('frame2')" rel="nofollow" target="mainbox"></a></div> <div id="thumb3"><a onmouseover="ShowPage('frame3')"onclick="ShowPage('frame3')" rel="nofollow" target="mainbox"></a></div> etc etc.. Which is just something i found online - probly isnt right for what im trying to accomplish. If you go to the site- you navigate by hovering over/clicking the images at the top and that loads a new page into the iframe below. Id like to be able to fix the errors and get it working without having to force ie7 compatibility if possible too. Any help is much appreciated Hello all I am new here but this place looked great and like one of the only places where I could find the answer to my question. I have created a page which pulls search results from various sites using PHP. It displays each result in a row in a table upon running. I wanted to add a button saying "More information" at which point, a div would appear and load the associated link for that search result within an iframe within the newly appeared div. I've been able to get a div appear and disappear on button click but, I couldn't get it to dynamically load an iframe on click with the associated search results link. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Also let me know if you need more information before assisting. Thanks! Hi people, I'm new to this and I was wondering how to adjust the iframe height by itself if my html height increases. My html code includes a facebook comment at the bottom of my page and the comment will show making it expand the height once users post comments. On the other hand, I'm using a CMS that have its own iframe. I've tried many solutions that can be found on the web but none works. It only can work if I don't put in CMS. Is it possible to adjust the iframe height using CMS or there is no way? I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say. Hope to hear from you guys soon. Thanks alot. Hi there, I am looking to retrieve the hieght of the browser window, so that when my index page loads, it will automatically resize an iframe that i have to fill the remaining hieght of the window. The image above shows the location of the iframe, and the problem that i am facing. Currently, the height of the iframe is hardcoded. On my laptop screen the iframe looks as if it fills the remaining 100% of the height. However, when viewing this page on my 17in monitor, there is now an ugly white space. I would like to be able to dynamically change the height of the iframe, so that it can fill up that white space with more iframe height. (1) shows the current hard-coded height of the iframe, and (2) shows the height that i would like to be able to retrieve using javascript. If i can get this value, then i assume all i then need to do is to substract the number of pixels that are taken up by the image, and the two nav bars at the top. Hopefully this would then give me the iframe filling up all available white space. The code i have currently to set the iframe height is: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function setIframeHeight(iframeName) { var iframeWin = window.frames[iframeName]; var iframeEl = document.getElementById? document.getElementById(iframeName): document.all? document.all[iframeName]: null; if ( iframeEl && iframeWin ) { iframeEl.style.height = "auto"; // helps resize (for some) if new doc shorter than previous //var docHt = getDocHeight(iframeWin.document); // need to add to height to be sure it will all show iframeEl.style.height = 100 + "%"; alert(document.height); } } </script> </head> <body onload="setIframeHeight('ifrm');"> So, I am now able to change the height of the iframe when the page loads, i just now need to hopefully be able to get the value from (2) in the image, to make it all work out nicely. Is this possible? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance I'm wondering if anyone out there has a jquery solution to using an iframe that automatically adjusts it's height of the child and also works cross domain. Any help would be greatly appreciated. So I have been struggling with a Javascript issues for a couple of days now and can't find an answer anywhere online that has helped. I have a javascript loop that is looping through all of my <dfn> html tags. These tags are used to show a glossary term on my page. When the user mouses over the term it shows a popup with the term name and the definition. Here is my javascript function: Code: function definitionRollover(){ var j; var dfns = document.getElementsByTagName('dfn') for (j=0; j<dfns.length;j++){ var term = dfns[j].innerHTML.charAt(0).toUpperCase() + dfns[j].innerHTML.slice(1); var definitionArray = new Array(term, dfns[j].title); dfns[j].onmouseover = function(){stm(definitionArray,Style[0])} dfns[j].onmouseout = function(){htm();}; } } As you can see I am adding a onmouseover event to these <dfn> tags which calls another function (stm) with the definition and term being held in the definitionArray. This works great until I have multiple terms on a page. When I have multiple terms it only shows the last terms definition for all terms. My question is how I can get it to work for all terms. I know that throughout the loop the definitionArray is holding the correct info at the correct time but for some reason it only shows the last one. I hope that this makes sense and if anyone could give me any tips or leads it would be very much appreciated. Hello! Im having problem generating the labels for content created by the following function: Code: function setOutput(){ if(httpObject.readyState == 4){ var answer = httpObject.resultsponseText.split(","); var results = document.getElementById("resultsultadosScan1"); var article = document.createElement("div"); var weight = document.createElement("div"); var price = document.createElement("div"); article.className = "article"; weight.className = "weight"; price.className = "price"; document.getElementById('outputText0').value = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[0]; document.getElementById('outputText1').value = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[1]; document.getElementById('outputText2').value = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[2]; article.innerHTML = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[0]; weight.innerHTML = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[1]; price.innerHTML = httpObject.innerHTML= answer[2]; results.appendChild(article); results.appendChild(weight); results.appendChild(price); } } A friend wrote this sample script to achieve generation of labels on my script, but I have been trying for hours with no luck, can someone take a look and tell me the correct usage of this script: Code: function createLabel() { var target = document.getElementById("target"); var label = document.createElement("label"); var text = document.createTextNode("Article"); label.appendChild(text); target.appendChild(label); } Can you help me with the correct "combination" using my script above, a "real life" example? Thanks a lot! My problem has to do with having more then two drop down menus and disabling selected items. In this example whenever anyone selects an option from either of the drop-down menus the opposing drop-down menu greys out the selection: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function updateSelect(changedSelect, selectId) { var otherSelect = document.getElementById(selectId); for (var i = 0; i < otherSelect.options.length; ++i) { otherSelect.options[i].disabled = false; } if (changedSelect.selectedIndex == 0) { return; } otherSelect.options[changedSelect.selectedIndex].disabled = true; } </script> Code: <select id="subject1" name="indication_subject[]" onchange="updateSelect(this,'subject2');" > <option value="1">A</option> <option value="2">B</option> <option value="3">C</option> </select> <select id="subject2" name="indication_subject[]" onchange="updateSelect(this,'subject1');" > <option value="1">A</option> <option value="2">B</option> <option value="3">C</option> </select> The above code works perfect. My problem is extending this to even more drop-down menus. I'm not a javascript guy but my logic was thinking something like this: Code: ARRAY = "subject1, subject2, subject3"; <select id="subject1" name="indication_subject[]" onchange="updateSelect(this,'ARRAY');" > ...either an array to include multiple drop-down menus or what about something like this? Code: <select id="subject2" name="indication_subject[]" onchange="updateSelect(this,'subject1, subject2, subject3, subject4');" > Obviously I know my code solutions don't work, however, I'm hoping they can provide someone with clarity with respect to what I'm trying to accomplish. I currently have two iframes, one has the chat, the other the users in the database and their status, which is set to default 'offline' and updated to 'online' when logging in.There is also an option to change colour of both iframes like so: [CODE]function change_background_pink() { document.frames.chatContents.document.body.style.backgroundColor="pink"; [CODE] and then this code to call the function: [CODE]<BUTTON onclick=change_background_pink()>Pink</BUTTON>[CODE] The problem is, that when the frames refresh, the background of the users frame goes back to the default white colour (the text does change to show newly logged users), yet the chat one stays the newly selected colour as intended (again the text changes as required). Here is the code of the iframe as it stands now: [CODE] <?php include("connect.php"); $query=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM users;"); echo "<table style='font-family:arial;font-size:14px;'>"; // echo "<th align=left>Username:" . "<th align=left>Status:"; //while loop for rows while($rows=mysql_fetch_array($query)){ echo "<tr>"; //show member deatils echo "<td>" . $rows['username'] . "</td>" . "<td>" . $rows['status'] . "</td>"; echo "</tr>"; } ?> <script type="text/javascript"><!-- setTimeout("refreshiframe()", 10000); //poll server in one second function refreshiframe(){ document.location.reload(); } //--> </script> [CODE] What I am asking is if anybody knows how i can just refresh the actual text part of the frame from the database rather than the entire frame? Many, many thanks in advance for any advice i may recieve and sorry if it sounds confusing i cannot think of a simpler way of explaining it. Been tinkering with X7Chat, a php/javascript chat app, and have run into a problem putting it in an iframe. Works fine in a full or popup window, but one of the functions hangs when the app is run in an iframe or frameset. I know iframes can be picky about relative/absolute urls, but this one has me stumped. Too much code to post, but here's the error: Line: 140 Char: 3 Error: 'opener.window.parent.frames.profile.document' is null or not an object Code: 0 URL: http://www.xxxxxxxx.org/x7chat/index...General%20Chat Not sure, but I believe the problem involves this function: Code: $script = " <script language=\"javascript\" type=\"text/javascript\">\n opener.window.clearTheWay(); opener.window.parent.frames['profile'].document.location='./index.php?act=frame&frame=profile&room=$_GET[room]&user=$_GET[user]&tto=1';\n </script>\n "; The X7Chat website appears to be abandoned - support forum is offline, and emails are returned. Any bright ideas would be appreciated.
