JavaScript - Hide|remove 'class' Via Javascript
No Jquery plz
As you can see that I want to remove this advertisement area (denoted by 1) via some java code. Now one can observe that this advert is hosted in the 'main-content' id & wrapped in 'inner' class. One cannot remove/hide id but CAN remove/hide the class which also will remove/hide the advert area placed within this class. Similar TutorialsHi, I am working on Salesforce.com application and want to have a standard button named "Save and Send Update" placed on Event object detail page to be hidden. I followed some sample codes shown on net utilising style.visibility/style.display attributes of Javascript. However, I am not able to still remove/hide the standard button. If anyone could please assist me in this, that would be great! Thanks, Vimal Hi all, I have a couple of functions, an add error function, if some validation is not met I add a message to a array holding error messages and mark the field red, I have no problem with that piece of code... Code: function addError(errorArray, formObj, message) { errorArray[errorArray.length] = message; if (formObj.options != undefined) { formObj.parentNode.className = "error-field"; } else { formObj.className = "error-field"; } } However I have an issue with the 2nd function, it takes in 2 variables, an id for a div which is displaying the error messages, and the form object, the issue I have is removing the error class. for some reason obj.className = '' fails to remove the class, getting the same object using getElementById() (name and id are the same) however if I construct the removing piece of js code as a String and execute it using eval it works... Code: function clearErrors(errorDivId, vForm) { var errorDiv = document.getElementById(errorDivId); errorDiv.innerHTML = ""; errorDiv.style.display = "none"; // remove red boxes for (i=0; i<vForm.elements.length; i++) { var obj = vForm.elements[i]; if (obj.type != "button" && obj.type != "hidden") { if (obj.options != undefined) { if (obj.parentNode.className == "error-field") { obj.parentNode.className = ""; } } else { if (obj.className == "error-field") { alert(obj.name); obj.className == ""; alert(obj.className); obj = document.getElementById(obj.name); alert(obj); obj.className == ""; alert(obj.className); var jsExecuteCommand = "vForm." + obj.name + ".className = '';"; alert(jsExecuteCommand); eval(jsExecuteCommand); alert(obj.className); } } } } } I am so baffled? I have no idea why it won't work can anybody please explain what is happening please? Although I have a work around, I have been banging my head to get to this workaround and I just don't understand why the obj.className = ''; doesn't work. Thanks, Dale Hi, I have no experience with javascript. For several hours I have been trying to figure out how to use it but I cannot. I want to change the layout of a page to something that would be much more readable. Recently the website Cramster has moved to Chegg and I don't like the layout. Everytime I load a problem I have to make the two changes in this screenshot: I expand the answer box then delete the footer because it overlaps in front of the answer box. Here is a screenshot of the before and after of what it does: How do I create a script to automate this every time I go to this site? I'm at a loss and tried all kinds of codes that are supposed to remove elements, but none have done anything. I know I don't have any code to show here, but I don't know what is supposed to work. Please help, thank you! Hey all, Hoping someone could help me out with some javascript coding as I am a complete novice to this! I am currently building a website using 1 static page and all the content will be pulled in through different iframes by clicking on a navigation on the page. I found a very handy piece of javascript coding that lets me remove a class from one link and move it to the link that was clicked on (the code will be below). The issue I am facing with this is that if I have Home set to class="On" to begin with and then click on Location, the background image will be added to the Location section but won't get removed from Home until it is physically clicked on. Can anyone help me out with how I can get this to work correctly? javascript: Code: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> var Lst; function CngClass(obj){ if (typeof(obj)=='string') obj=document.getElementById(obj); if (Lst) Lst.className=''; obj.className='On'; Lst=obj; } </script> HTML: Code: <div id="navWrapper"> <div id="globalNav"> <ul> <li onclick="CngClass(this);" class="On"><a href="iframes/home.html" target="content_iframe">Home</a></li> <li onclick="CngClass(this);" class=""><a href="iframes/location.html" target="content_iframe">Location</a></li> <li onclick="CngClass(this);" class=""><a href="iframes/speakers.html" target="content_iframe">Speakers</a></li> <li onclick="CngClass(this);" class=""><a href="iframes/agenda.html" target="content_iframe">Agenda</a></li> <li onclick="CngClass(this);" class=""><a href="iframes/useful_material.html" target="content_iframe">Useful Material</a></li> <li onclick="CngClass(this);" class=""><a href="iframes/event_presentations.html" target="content_iframe">Event Presentations</a></li> <li onclick="CngClass(this);" class=""><a href="iframes/gallery.html" target="content_iframe">Gallery</a></li> </ul> </div> <div id="localNav"></div> </div> Hello, I have a complex website designed with Jquerry, javaScript and css. The index.html serves as a client ui for an open source poker game. Much of the css is contained in multiple and imported external css files. The javaScript code is also contained in an external file. The site is completely functional. What I am attempting to do is add a feature to the client that will, through a JavaScript function, dynamically change the visibility element of a class. The classes in question represent the style of the hole cards that a player sees after his cards are dealt. By default they are visible and face up. I would like to change this default behaviour by first changing their visibility element default value to hidden (easy). Then I intend to create a div with onMouseOver and onMouseOut events that will invoke the JavaScript function which will toggle the visibility element value. This will in turn show and hide the hole cards (not easy). I have attempted to use document.getElementById() but without success. After much hacking, I have the feeling that this is not the proper way of directly changing the visibility element value of a class. Here is the relevant class info (how the cards are displayed in the browser) in the external css file Code: .jpoker_table .jpoker_ptable_card_seat00 { width:191px; height:262px; visibility:hidden; z-index:2; position:absolute; top:140px; left:10px; -webkit-transform: scale(1); -moz-transform: scale(1);background-image:url("images/jpoker_table/cards/small-back.png");} .jpoker_table .jpoker_ptable_card_seat01 { width:191px; height:262px; z-index:3; position:absolute; top:190px; left:60px; -webkit-transform: scale(1);-moz-transform: scale(1); background-image:url("images/jpoker_table/cards/small-back.png");} Left alone these classes will display within the contentWrapper div in the browser as the hole cards which are visible and face up. Here is the relevant html associated with the above classes. Good! I want to know if I have another button, let's say <button>Remove</button>, how can I disable the "onClick" event on the link above? And also when clicking on a third button <button>Add</button>again, it will enable the function again to work? NOTE: I do not want an HTML5 audio Stop button. This is different. I just want to know how to enable and disable function event. Thank! I downloaded a popup datepicker from javascriptkit.com. All great but can't take the time out of the footer. I only want the date to show, and once selected, I would like the field to be filled with "Day, Date, Month, Year" (no time). Ruth Hello everybody, new here. I'm a complete JavaScript newbie, all I know is some HTML, CSS and little jQuery. Don't be so harsh :P I own and run a forum on a free software called Forumotion. Since these people like getting a lot of revenue, they added a metatag that makes IE8 work like IE7. Here it is. Code: <!-- BEGIN meta_emulate_ie7 --> <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" /> <!-- END meta_emulate_ie7 --> This works on only some pages on my forum. However, since we use a lot of CSS and JavaScript codes that IE7 doesn't support (but IE8 does), these pages are completely screwed up. Since they don't offer template editing for some versions (in which this tag can be found), I cannot simply delete this tag (unfortunately). I have come here to ask if there's any way to inhibit, remove, delete and destroy that stupid metatag which is screwing my forum up using JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX, or any other way (except PHP, since it's disallowed...) to do so. Any ideas? Any help will be absolutely appreciated. Thanks a bunch. Hi, I know very little about javascript, but it seems like what I need to do is simple, so I'm hoping someone here could help. In my online store.... I have a <div> called "prodprice" which houses a dynamically loaded price {tag_saleprice}. When the price is $0.00, I want the <div> to be hidden. When the price is anything other than $0.00, I want it to be visible. I have no idea how to code it, but it seems like the general logic would be something like this: <div id="prodprice" style="display:none">{tag_saleprice}</div> document.getElementById('prodprice') If prodprice="$0.00" .style.display = "block"; Am I totally off base? What I'm wanting to do is use Javascript to scan the contents of the visitors shopping cart for a particular word, as well as scan the quantity of the product in the cart. The condition: If the product name = some string I want to compare AND if the quantity < some number I want to compare. If these two conditions are met, I wan't to hide a shipping option called 'Free Shipping' once the user clicks the Estimate Shipping & Tax button. Here is a link to the websites cart.php page: All Commercial Furniture.com - Shopping Cart The platform we use is a little limited, so they don't give us access to their PHP files. Having to find a workaround for right now. Please let me know if you need any info. Any point in the right direction would be great. Thanks Hey, I wonder how I'm going to do when it comes to the function of "show/hide" with JavaScript. My question is: I'm working on a web form. The following question is on the form: "Was ITK used?", and you're supposed to be able to pick "Yes" or "No" (by radio buttons), and this I've already fixed with no issues. But what I CAN'T do, for some strange reason, is that when you've clicked "Yes" on that question, it should appear another question: "Does customer have ITK in their network?", and when that comes up you're supposed to choose between "Yes"/"No" with radio buttons there as well. BUT if you click "No" on the first question (Was ITK used?), the other question (Does customer have ITK in their network?) shouldn't appear... Do you understand what I mean? How do I do this? Thanks in advance! New assignment. For about eight years I've had a UDM javascript menu on each of about 200 pages. It consists of a bunch of files that live in the top of my website and are called to each page by four lines of script. I have had only to edit appearance and links in one file. Instructions were to leave the others alone. The present version of the UDM menu is not free, as the old one was, and if I did buy it I'm not at all sure I'd be able to cope with it. Unless the names of the new files matched those of the old ones, I'd have to go in and edit each page individually. My problem is that IE9 doesn't display the menu, but does display its background, so there's a big beige block on the top left of every page. It looks bad. Would I be able to add to one of the files something like a conditional comment such as "If IE9 display none"? I would be truly grateful for any ideas that would help me fix this. My site is http://fay.iniminimo.com/ Thank you so much for your interest. Fay so basically i have javascript code that i've been trying to write. When "Other" is selected in the form's drop down box, its supposed to show the textarea, otherwise its supposed to stay hidden. I made a seperate HTML page so whomever views this didn't have to scroll through my other javascript code / html / php lol... anyhow here it is Code: <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.4/jquery.min.js"> </script> <script type="text/javascript"> function update2(f,s,h) { var first=$('#'+f).val(); var hidden=$('#'+h); if(first=="other") { hidden.css('display','block'); else {hidden.css('display','none');} } </script> </head> <body bgcolor="#002E2F"> <form name="Manager" method="post"> <table border="0" style="background-color:#f4fbee" width="651" height="25" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="3"> <tr> <td width="651"><font face="verdana" size="2">Please tell us how you were referred to RSIC</font></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="651"> <form action=""> <select name="referred" id="referred" onchange="update2('referred','othertextarea','otherp');"> <option value="select" selected="selected">Select...</option> <option value="AttendRSIC">Attended RSIC Event</option> <option value="AttendIndus">Attended Industry Event</option> <option value="RefRSIC">Referred by RSIC Staff / Board</option> <option value="CurrentRSIC">Current RSIC business partner</option> <option value="RefThird">Referred by a third party that does business with RSIC</option> <option value="other">Other</option> </select> </td </tr> <tr> <td width="651"><font face="verdana" size="2">If you selected "Other" on the previous field, please describe below</font></td> </tr> <tr> <td width="651"> <p id="otherp" style="display:none;"> <textarea name="othertextarea" id="othertextarea" rows="5" cols="78"> </textarea> </p> </td> </tr> </table> Any help is appreciated, thanks everyone! I am asking a pretty simple question, but you got to start learning somewhere, you know! Anyway, I have implemented a script that resizes images into small thumbs on the left side of a page and shows the full size image on the right when the user click on a thumb. It works well. However, I have a possible 10 thumbs on theleft and my database that feeds this does not always have 10 images. Since I re-use the page for mutiple listings, I need to find a way to disable the broken image link for listings that don't have 10 thumbs. I have attached a picture of what it looks like. Here is the script: Code: #jgal { list-style: none; width: 200px; } #jgal li { opacity: .5; float:left; display: block; height:60px; width:60px; overflow:hidden; background-position: 50% 50%; cursor: pointer; border: 3px solid #fff; outline: 1px solid #ddd; margin-right: 14px; margin-bottom: 14px; } #jgal li img { height:60px; width:auto; } #jgal li.active img { display: block; } #jgal li.active, #jgal li:hover { outline-color: #bbb; opacity: .99 /* safari bug */ } /* styling without javascript */ #gallery { list-style: none; display: block; } #gallery li { float: left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0; } </style> <!--[if lt IE 8]> <style media="screen, projection" type="text/css"> #jgal li { filter: alpha(opacity=50); } #jgal li.active, #jgal li:hover { filter: alpha(opacity=100); } </style> <![endif]--> <script type="text/javascript">document.write("<style type='text/css'> #gallery { display: none; } </style>");</script> <!--[if lt IE 6]><style media="screen, projection" type="text/css">#gallery { display: block; }</style><![endif]--> <script type="text/javascript"> var gal = { init : function() { if (!document.getElementById || !document.createElement || !document.appendChild) return false; if (document.getElementById('gallery')) document.getElementById('gallery').id = 'jgal'; var li = document.getElementById('jgal').getElementsByTagName('li'); enlargedImg = document.createElement('img'); document.getElementById('jgal').parentNode.insertBefore(enlargedImg,document.getElementById('jgal').nextSibling); enlargedImg.src = li[0].getElementsByTagName('img')[0].src; li[0].className = 'active'; for (i=0; i<li.length; i++) { li[i].style.backgroundImage = 'url(' + li[i].getElementsByTagName('img')[0].src + ')'; li[i].style.backgroundRepeat = 'no-repeat'; li[i].title = li[i].getElementsByTagName('img')[0].alt; gal.addEvent(li[i],'click',function() { var im = document.getElementById('jgal').getElementsByTagName('li'); for (j=0; j<im.length; j++) { im[j].className = ''; } this.className = 'active'; enlargedImg.src = this.getElementsByTagName('img')[0].src; }); } }, addEvent : function(obj, type, fn) { if (obj.addEventListener) { obj.addEventListener(type, fn, false); } else if (obj.attachEvent) { obj["e"+type+fn] = fn; obj[type+fn] = function() { obj["e"+type+fn]( window.event ); } obj.attachEvent("on"+type, obj[type+fn]); } } } gal.addEvent(window,'load', function() { gal.init(); }); And then my list basically looks like this: Code: <ul id="gallery"> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb5']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc5']; ?>"></li> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb6']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc6']; ?>"></li> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb7']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc7']; ?>"></li> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb8']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc8']; ?>"></li> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb9']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc9']; ?>"></li> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb10']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc10']; ?>"></li> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb11']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc11']; ?>"></li> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb12']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc12']; ?>"></li> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb13']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc13']; ?>"></li> <li><img src="images/details/<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemThumb14']; ?>" alt="<?php echo $row_WADAitems['ItemDesc14']; ?>"></li> </ul> So as you can see, if I don't have an image in the database that it pulls from, I get that icon for a broken image link. How can I remove that icon so it doesn't show the no image icon? Many thanks! |
