JavaScript - Splitting Off Javascript To A Script Area
I am really new to JavaScript, and was following a tutorial that was using everything inline (probaby as its less confusing for the noob). Now I want to split it off into a script area, like my CSS has been.
I have: Code: <SPAN onclick="document.getElementById('glance').style.display='block';document.getElementById('front').style.display='none';"> Is something like this valid (this is a guess BTW)? Code: <SCRIPT type="text/javascript"> function getElementById('glance') { .style.display='block'; } function getElementById('front') { .style.display='none'; } </SCRIPT> <SPAN onclick="document.getElementById('glance'); document.getElementById('front')"> ... </SPAN> ... or should function be document in the script area and document not be present in the SPAN attribute? ... Better yet, is there a way to put both the 'glance' and 'front' together like this: Code: <SCRIPT type="text/javascript"> function getElementById ('glance') { .style.display='block'; getElementById ('front') { .style.display='none'; } } </SCRIPT> Similar Tutorials<area shape="rect" coords="7,24,154,40" href="javascript:triggerCheckout()"> <area shape="rect" coords="7,24,154,40" href="javascript:triggerCheckout();"> <area shape="rect" coords="7,24,154,40" onClick="triggerCheckout()"> <area shape="rect" coords="7,24,154,40" onClick="triggerCheckout();"> None of these works. Why not? How can i link this hotspot area with a javascript function? I'm looking to find a script... My client wants his users to be able to enter their zip code into a "check coverage area" text box. Then, on submit, it should return a message saying whether zip code is covered by his business. It seems like this would be a simple (ish) "if-else" script, listing the covered zip codes, but I'm not very experienced in javascript. Can anyone direct me to a free or cheap script that I could use and adapt for this? Thanks soooo much. I have one html text area in my JSP file. when i click on that text area, a pop-up will come, in that pop-up i have list of items. So after selecting a item from that pop-up list, need to click okay. so that text area will update with the selected value. In this case, i need to compare the first text area value and updated text area value. How can i do that in Java Script. Hi Friends, I need a copy to clipboard functionality from a text area using javascript. I use Zclip for the purpose, but it will not work as needed . I attach my working code along with this .. pls open index.html in browser and try it . Do any one can pls give a javascript solution to copy textarea content to clipboard... Thanks, Anes I am running some javascript code which generates a popup window associated with a spell checking program. The way the program works, is that it takes the text out of a text field (passed as an object), spell checks the string, then puts it back into the text area field. My text area is located within a flash form, and I am having trouble pointing to it. I am sure my spell checking program is working, as it works fine if I point to an html text area. Do I have to do something special to point to a flash form object? Here is my code: Code: <!--- Source the JavaScript spellChecker object ---> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="../Spellchecking/spellerpages-0.5.1/speller/spellChecker.js"> </script> <!--- Call a function like this to handle the spell check command ---> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function openSpellChecker() { // get the textarea we're going to check <!--- pointer to text area ---> var txt = window.activity.Summary; // give the spellChecker object a reference to our textarea // pass any number of text objects as arguments to the constructor: var speller = new spellChecker( txt ); // kick it off speller.openChecker(); } </script> Also, here is my text area: Code: <cfform format="flash" id="activity1" height="#formheight#" width="100%" style="#formstyle#" timeout="3600" wmode="transparent" name="activity" onLoad="#initVars#; onFormLoad();"> <cftextarea name="Summary" id="Summary" html="yes" maxlength="1000" tooltip="Summarize your entry here. The field has a 1000 character limit. This summary is included in the generated End of the Week reports." onChange="submitTemporary('Summary', Summary.text);requiredContent('summary');" onFocus="if(detailsBox.height>60){detailsBox.height=60;summaryBox.height=220;}"></cftextarea> </cfform> Any help on this issue would be much appreciated. Thanks, AeroNicko Hi, I have a form in which I preset some text inside a readonly, disabled textarea using javascript ('data' being the text): document.getElementById("link_of_current_view2").value = data; However, once I call my .php script to process the form, the element is null. How do I get it to pass along that data, which is in the textbox when the user views the form? Code: <div id="sendlink" class="contact_form" style="z-index:10;"> <a class="close" onclick="document.sendlink_form.reset();return false">CLOSE</a> <form id='sendlink_form' name='sendlink_form' method="post" action="sendlink.php" > <label for="link_of_current_view2">Link: </label> <textarea id="link_of_current_view2" name="_of_current_view2" class="link_of_current_view" rows="2" disabled="disabled" wrap="soft" size="58" value="" readonly="readonly" value=/></textarea> <input type="image" src="images/forms/submit.png" value="Submit" alt="Submit"> <a onclick="javascript:reset_sendlink()" style="cursor:pointer"><img src="images/forms/reset.png"></a> </div> Thanks for reading! I'm trying to figure out how to split a url variable... I tried these two ways, with an alert to see my result, but I'm not getting anything. Suggestions? Code: function() { myURL = "http://www.test.com/folder1/folder2/someone" var partsA = myURL.split("//"); var parts = partsA[1].split("/"); alert(parts[2]); } Code: function() { myURL = "http://www.test.com/folder1/folder2/someone" var parts = myURL.split('/'); var result = parts[parts.length-2] + '/' + parts[parts.length-1]; alert(result); } What would the best be to split the following string: "only(a-z,A-Z,1-9)" I want to split it into a array to look like this: array(only, a-z, A-Z, 1-9); Hello, How would I seperate a text string such that it would appear on seperate lines ie. Initial Input: ------------------------------------------- StrMsg = "This is an example of a string that will appear on seperate lines" "Hoping that this fully works, there will be no errors and all will be well" "Thank you to the experts and pros on this forum who are here to help" "This is the last line of text." Expected Outcome: ------------------------------------------- This is an example of a string that will appear on seperate lines Hoping that this fully works, there will be no errors and all will be well Thank you to the experts and pros on this forum who are here to help This is the last line of text. Much thanks and appreciation for all your help J Alright, so I'll be honest, I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT JAVASCRIPT! So, basically, I want, when the button is clicked, for this to grab some levels from a game and do some calculations. Simple. Well... Not for me. Here is the code I have right now: Code: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> function GrabTheStats(rsusername){ var GrabStats = ""http://hiscore.runescape.com/index_lite.ws?player="" + rsusername; var GrabStats_array = GrabStats.split(","); attLvl = expToLevel(GrabStats_array[0],false); strLvl = expToLevel(GrabStats_array[1],false); defLvl = expToLevelGrabStats_array[2],false); hpLvl = expToLevel(GrabStats_array[3],true); magLvl = expToLevel(GrabStats_array[4],false); ranLvl = expToLevel(GrabStats_array[5],false); praLvl = expToLevel(GrabStats_array[6],false); sumLvl = expToLevel(GrabStats_array[7],false); calcResult = calcCombat(attLvl,strLvl,defLvl,hpLvl,magLvl,ranLvl,praLvl,sumLvl); document.getElementById('outputlocation').value = calcResult[0] + "/" + calcResult[1]; } </script> Code: <input type="text" name="outputlocation" id="outputlocation"/> <input type="button" onclick="GrabTheStats("zezima");" value="CLICK ME" /> Could someone help me to get this working? The calcCombat calculates things bases on the levels it grabs and produces an array of results, calcResult[0] and [1] being the two results I want right now. An example output will hopefully be "95/98". Please don't criticize, since this is for 'crappy old RuneScape'. It really doesn't help. Thanks! I am trying to split the (id) values between seperate forms and the submit buttons are not located between the form tags. Note: ->The 3 forms are located at the top of page ->the (3) Submit buttons are in a query and are outside the form tags. ->In this case it does not make sense to have the form duplicating itself in the sql_query. need the correct code for the 3 script functions var form1, form2, form3 then i need the correct function submit code something like -> onClick='Split(this.form1,1)' Also: To keep this simple could the 3 scripts be combined into one? Code: <!-- SPLIT VALUES BETWEEN SEPERATE FORMS --> <script type="text/javascript"> function Add(sel, first) { if (sel.selectedIndex == 0 ) return; var temp = sel.id.split(","); sel.form1["F"+first].value = temp[0]; sel.form1["F"+(first+1)].value = temp[1]; } </script> <script type="text/javascript"> function Edit(sel, first) { if (sel.selectedIndex == 0 ) return; var temp = sel.id.split(","); sel.form2["F"+first].value = temp[0]; sel.form2["F"+(first+1)].value = temp[1]; } </script> <script type="text/javascript"> function Delete(sel, first) { if (sel.selectedIndex == 0 ) return; var temp = sel.id.split(","); sel.form3"F"+first].value = temp[0]; sel.form3["F"+(first+1)].value = temp[1]; } </script> <form method='post' name='form1' action='record_add.php'> <input type='hidden' id='F1' name='t101' value='' > <input type='hidden' id='F2' name='t102' value='' > </form> <form method='post' name='form2' action='record_edit.php'> <input type='hidden' id='F3' name='t103' value='' > <input type='hidden' id='F4' name='t104' value='' > </form> <form method='post' name='form3' action='record_delete.php'> <input type='hidden' id='F5' name='t103' value='' > <input type='hidden' id='F6' name='t106' value='' > </form> <!-- NOTE: THE SUBMIT BUTTONS ARE IN A QUERY OUTSIDE THE FORM TAGS AND NEED TO TARGET THE PROPER FORM1,2,3 onClick --> <button type='submit' id='$mytable,$columns[Field]' onClick='Split(this.form1,1)'> <button type='submit' id='$mytable,$columns[Field]' onClick='Split(this.form2,3)'> <button type='submit' id='$mytable,$columns[Field]' onClick='Split(this.form3,5)'> As of right now I have a code that will work in IE but wont work in FireFox...go figure. Basically what I want to have happen is when you type in an area code it will provide an output in a predetermined area of the page. For Example: Input- 512 Output - Austin, TX The code that I have doesn't work with firefox and I was just wondering if there was a code that would allow that to happen. Thanks! Hi, I was wondering how to load an external .php script file in javascript, and make use of a php variable in the javascript. Thanks in advance. EDIT: If this is not possible, is there some way to send the php data to the javascript by using php, and then accessing the data that was sent in the javascript, and making use of it? What I'm trying to do is get a OpenTok session id from a .php script to javascript. Hi, I have a a-z brand menu on my site. I want the user to be able to select a letter and a list of brands appear. The problem I have is that I want the layer to appear at the position of the mouse (from the top left). I have this working fine but then when you rollover a link (brand) within the layer div it reactivates the call command and re positions the layer to the mouse again. Please Please help. Regards, Neha Hi, I have a little problem with placing a javascript into a php script If the action "Change" is true then I want to open a new window with a javascript below. I get an error message: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '<' in /home/........ on line xx On that xx line starts the Javascript What must I do to solve this problem. <?php.................... if($_REQUEST['action']=="Change") { mysql_query("UPDATE Persons SET Itemstate = '{$_REQUEST['Nr']};' WHERE Nr={$_REQUEST['Nr']};"); <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="javascript"> <!-- window.open ('Examplepage.html') --> </SCRIPT> ........ ?> I have an age script running in the attachment below. It works fine for numbers such as 1 22 1980. Code: if ((input.search(/\b([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01])\b/)!= -1) && (input.search(/\b([1-9]|1[0-2])\b/)!=-1) && (input.search(/\b(19[0-9]{2}|200[0-9]|201[01])\b/)!= -1)) { function getBirth() { var now = new Date(); var myMatchy = input.match(/\b(19[0-9]{2}|200[0-9]|201[01])\b/); var myMatchm = input.match(/\b([1-9]|1[0-2])\b/) var myMatchd = input.match(/\b([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01])\b/); var year = myMatchy[0]; var month = myMatchm[0]; var day = myMatchd[0]; var today = { "year" : now.getFullYear(), "month": now.getMonth()+1, "day" : now.getDate() } var age = today["year"] - year; if (month > today["month"]) age--; else if (month == today["month"]) if (day > today["day"]) age-- return age; } document.result.result.value = "Your age is "+getBirth()+"."; return true;} However, if someone writes out the month it doesn't. Such as January 22 1980. I did a work-around by inserting the month value. Highlighted below. But that means I would have to duplicate this lengthy code 12 times for each month of the year. Anybody know a better way to handle this? You can test it in the small attachment below. Any help would be appreciated. Code: if ((input.search(/\b([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01])\b/)!= -1) && (input.search(/(january)/)!= -1) && (input.search(/\b(19[0-9]{2}|200[0-9]|201[01])\b/)!= -1)) { function getJan() { var now = new Date(); var myMatchy = input.match(/\b(19[0-9]{2}|200[0-9]|201[01])\b/); var myMatchd = input.match(/\b([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[01])\b/); var month = 0; var year = myMatchy[0]; var day = myMatchd[0]; var today = { "year" : now.getFullYear(), "month": now.getMonth()+1, "day" : now.getDate() } var age = today["year"] - year; if (month > today["month"]) age--; else if (month == today["month"]) if (day > today["day"]) age-- return age; } document.result.result.value = "Your age is "+getJan()+"."; return true;} Hi peeps I found this script on another forum, It is nearly perfect, I was wondering if you peeps could help me make a few changes... how do I change the cut off to 8pm I have tried var c_t = 8; but it does 8am I have also tried var c_t = 20; but it doesnt work... Any ideas? Also instead of just saying "your order will ship shifted to tommrow" would it be possible to insert tomorrows date, i.e Thursday 13th and then for "and your order will ship to Monday" could it say Monday 15th etc Here is the script, Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function ord() { var c_t = 4; var dd = new Date(); var ti_h = dd.getHours(); var ti_m = dd.getMinutes(); if(ti_h > c_t) { var di_t_h = ti_h - c_t; var di_t_mi = 60 - ti_m; var h = 24 - di_t_h; var mi = di_t_mi; var mess = h+"hours"+mi+"minutes"; } var da = dd.getDay(); //var da = document.getElementById("da").value; switch(da) { case 2: case 3: case 4: case 5: document.write("Place your order within the next 1 day"+mess+"and your order will ship shifted to tommrow"); break; case 6: case 7: case 1: document.write("and your order will ship to Monday"); break; } } ord(); </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> Hello everyone, I have setup a script called Uploadify it is a basic file uploader script however by default it does not show a link to the uploaded file. I have had to look in the documentation on to do this but there is no clear guide on how to do it. I found this function though which I belieave is the solution: http://www.uploadify.com/documentati.../oncomplete-2/ Here are the functions I am using: Code: 'onComplete' : function(event, ID, fileObj, response, data) { document.write('http://www.cqwebdesign.co.uk' + fileObj.filePath +''); } This works kinda but when it shows the link the page continues loading as if it is stuck in some loop? You can try it out he http://www.cqwebdesign.co.uk/SC2/index.html Thanks |
