JavaScript - Jquery Keyword Search In External Html Files
Hi
I need to develop a simple keyword search in external html files(having traversing in directories ability). Is this possible? (in this case php can be used) Please guide me Thanks Similar TutorialsI'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I'm looking for help with adding a search box to my website. I want to create a keyword search box - one where entering the right keyword(s) will take the visitor DIRECTLY to the page they're looking for, without a results page. And if they don't enter a keyword (in a keyword database?) they're taken to an error page. So, in essence, it's not really a search engine, it's more of a keywords box. Oh, also, some of the keywords will have non alphabetical or numerical characters (like dashes and periods) if that's a concern. Can someone help me with this or point me in the right direction to someone/someplace that can? Thanks.
I'm looking at building an interactive desktop gadget for our company computers that functions similar to Clippy (less annoying though). The idea is for users to be able to type in keywords or questions and have the gadget present links to pages on our intranet. So similar to a search engine but more focused on answering questions as opposed to just returning a hundred results. I've got a moderate understanding of java so I know I could do something like IF "Textbox" EQUALS "Keyword" THEN DO "THAT". Need a little more sophistication though, it should be able to accept multiple keywords and weigh the search results accordingly. I'm sort of picturing an updatable XML table like this: KEYWORD This is the result KEYWORD This is the result Or an array in a separate .js file. Maybe there's a better way than that actually but it's what I know. Has anyone got some advice on this? Thanks. I'm trying to program/modify a simple countdown timer in a .js file. I was able to get it to work when I just loaded the index.html file straight from my computer to my browser but it failed once uploaded. Here was the code for my index.html file. Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="countDown2.js"></script> <body> <b id='itgoeshere'>timer should go here</b> <script language ="Javascript"> window.onload = cd() </script> </body> and here is my code for my .js file Code: var days var hours var mins var secs; function cd() { var today = new Date() var eventDate = new Date(2012,0,28,19,19,70) difference = eventDate.getTime() - today.getTime() days = Math.floor(difference / (1000*60*60*24)) difference = difference - days * (1000*60*60*24) hours = Math.floor(difference / (1000*60*60)) difference = difference - hours * (1000*60*60) mins = Math.floor(difference / (1000*60)) difference = difference - mins * (1000*60) secs = Math.floor(difference / (1000)) redo(); } function dis(days, hours, mins, secs) { var disp; disp = days + ":" + hours + ":" + mins + ":" + secs; return(disp); } function redo() { secs--; if(secs == -1) { secs = 59; mins--; if (mins == -1) { mins = 59; hours--; if (hours == -1){ hours = 23; days--;}} } document.getElementById('itgoeshere').innerHTML = dis(days, hours, mins, secs); if((days == 0) && (hours == 0) && (mins == 0) && (secs == 0)) { window.alert("Chris is running."); // change timeout message as required } else { cd = setTimeout("redo()",1000); } } function init() { cd(); } window.onload = init; If I were to just cut and paste my .js code between my <script> it works but I was hopping to use it over again on multiple pages and having only one file to update. Also I'm very new at programming in general so if you see an obvious mistake not related to my question please let me know. Hi everyone, I'm a newbie and this is probably really easy but it just won't work! I've tried looking at various online sources but they are all either too technical or don't seem to work. I'm obviously doing something wrong! The code is posted below, it's not very long so hopefully someone will be able to debug it! Thanks lots! Original page: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>variables</title> </head> <body> <script src="displaydate.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <br> </body> </html> External displaydate.js file: Code: function todaydate(){ var today_date= new Date() var myyear=today_date.getYear() var mymonth=today_date.getMonth()+1 var mytoday=today_date.getDate() document.write(myyear+"/"+mymonth+"/"+mytoday) } Opening the original page in my browser displays nothing. Just a blank page. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Geoff I have an external Javascript file that only works when I put: Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="external.js"></script> at the end of the HTML page. Does anyone know why it won't work in the head of the page? Thanks Hey guys. So right now I'm able to execute javascript code on my website without the use of <script> tags. Example: <body onload=alert("cool");></body> What I want to be able to do is insert an external javascript file located at another website using JavaScript code (not script tags). How can this be done? Thanks Hi I'm trying to load a part of a page (that has script in it) into another page using jquery. However, though the html loads in correctly, none of the script is working. I'm using code from http://css-tricks.com/video-screenca...namic-content/ ie. the pages all work without java (static pages) and when java is enabled, instead of going to bio.html you get taken to ..#bio.html. However if I've got any script I would like to be loaded .. ie. lightbox gallery or even a simple jav split and put back together email address hider. Any help greatly appreciated. I'm not very clued up about jquery at the moment unfortunately and though I've been trying to read and learn, alot is going over my head.. Not sure how best it is to show you the page as it's not live yet. Maybe if it helps I can upload a zip of the site. It's a simple 6 page musician site. Though my code is exactly like the css-tricks page, just that I have a lightbox on one page (which loads fine if there's no hash in the address - but when hash is there, it shows thumbnails, and when you click one, it just takes you to the larger .jpg destination page (no lightboxness etc).) Thanks hi all, i'm a relatively new user to javascript. i'm supposed to use javascript to search through a folder that contains many excel files. the search term is obtained from a front end html form, javascript gets that value, search every single excel file in the folder and see which file has a cell that matches the search terms. I currently know (sort of) how to search through 1 file. but how do I search through many files? and from what i see from the searching of 1 file, it takes a few seconds to open and close the excel file (located on a network drive). which means it will take a fair bit of time to cycle through 97 excel files. Is there like any searching algorithm to speed up the process? Hi all- I currently use a javascript seacrh string on my website that searchs all folders (directories) and gives results on a html page. My problem is that some folders (or sub directories) are not being found when I type into the form search box. Does anyone know why this might be happening? here is the script im using <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">function OnSearchSubmit(){var b_return=true;if (document.form_search.sw){for(var i=0;i<document.form_search.sw.value.length;i++){if (document.form_search.sw.value.charAt(i)!=" ") {lh="searchresult.html?sw="+encodeURIComponent(document.form_search.sw.value);b_return=false;break;} }}if (b_return) return;window.open(lh,"_self");}</script> thanks! Is there a way onclick to load external html into a DIV tag, but without iFrame usage?
I am trying to write a report-generator to collect user-comments from a list of external HTML files. User-comments are wrapped in < span> elements. Can this be done using JavaScript? The files are all available locally and I am using file:// protocol for the access. Here's my attempt: Code: function generateCommentReport() { var files = document.querySelectorAll('td a'); //Files to scan are links in an HTML table var outputWindow = window.open(); //Output browser window for report for(var i = 0; i<files.length; i++){ //Open each file in a browser window win = window.open(); win.location.href = files[i].href; //Scan opened window for 'comment's comments = win.document.querySelectorAll('.comment'); for(var j=0;j<comments.length;j++){ //Add to output report outputWindow.document.write(comment[i].innerHTML); } } } Hello, I am in situation where I need a code to redirect a HTML page to new location (Static HTML/Dynamic Web page) however the challenge is that I can not use usual JavaScript Redirect code due to restriction that we can't execute any code/script under body tag. I found that this can be done using an external JS file however I am not able to achieve this. I need the code to be generic so we can apply the same JS file to any page. However, I want the new window to open over the previous one versus opening a second new window. Can someone help me out in this? Hi people, I would like to make the following thing: Load a random file, from a xml list, into a div. I've made a scheme where I show what I was trying to make, but I don't know how to make it. Hello, I actually use a counter on a webpage (It works) To do it, I use an inline javascript but I would like to unify the entire page and call that counter directly in the external Javascript that manages the whole site. Here's the actual code... I'm make a ajax call to a processing PHP file that echos either "success" or an "error message". When the success is returning, i want Jquery to recognize this and then redirect the browsers instead of displaying the success message. Here are some snippets. I can only seem to parse to a blank or null. Jquery code: Code: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "process.php", data: wfLoginPost(), success: function(msg){ alert(msg); // both below are either null or blank //var res = $(msg).find("span.response").text(); //var res = $(msg).find("span.response").html(); if(res == 'Success'){ window.location = 'http://www.google.com'; } } }); process.php PHP Code: if($qry[0]['pwd'] == $password){ echo "<span class='response'>Success</span>"; }else{ echo "<span class='response'>Username or password did not match</span>"; } Here is the contents of the msg response from the ajax post: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/reset.css"/> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/960grid.css"/> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/style.css"/> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/statusmessageQ.css"/> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.statusmessageQ-0.5.js"></script> </head> <span class='response'>Success</span> I'm having trouble inserting two jquery scripts into the same HTML file. they both work independently, but when i try to use them both at the same time only one script will work..
