Similar TutorialsHi I'm New to javascript how to Call WCF service using Javascript or Jquery in html page.(with out using Activex Objects) So, i have this code which retrieves php files for me using jquery and id love to get it working with Jquery history plugin. I tried modifying the code i got from the ajax demo to work for me, but i just couldnt do it as i do not know any javascript really.. ( actually what i tried was simply to change "#ajax-links a" to "#menu li a" and .html to .php ..but nothing.. Id be very gratefull if someone would help me out with this one. All related code can be found bellow (the ones that should be needed anyways): This is the code that retrieves php files inside "#content" when item from "#menu li a" with the specified id is clicked Code: $(document).ready(function(){ //References var change = $("#menu li a"); var loading = $("#loading"); var content = $("#content"); //Manage click events change.click(function(){ //show the loading bar showLoading(); //load selected section if(this.id == "home") { change.load(this.className='current-page'); content.slideUp(); content.load("pages/index.php", hideLoading); content.slideDown(); } else if(this.id == "secondpage") { change.load(this.className='current-page'); content.slideUp(); content.load("pages/secondpage.php", hideLoading); content.slideDown(); } else { //hide loading bar if there is no selected section hideLoading(); } }); //show loading bar function showLoading(){ loading .css({visibility:"visible"}) .css({opacity:"1"}) .css({display:"block"}) ; } //hide loading bar function hideLoading(){ loading.fadeTo(1000, 0); }; }); Heres the structure of the menu/content Code: <ul id="menu"> <li><a id="home" class="normal" href="#Home"></a></li> <li><a id="secondpage" class="normal" href="#Secondpage"></a></li> </ul> <div id="content"> <ul id="sec-menu"> <li><a id="link1" class="normal" href="#">Link1</a></li> <li><a id="link2" class="normal" href="#">Link2</a></li> </ul> </div> Heres the code that jquery history plugin uses in demo for ajax Code: jQuery(document).ready(function($) { function load(num) { $('#content').load(num +".html"); } $.history.init(function(url) { load(url == "" ? "1" : url); }); $('#ajax-links a').live('click', function(e) { var url = $(this).attr('href'); url = url.replace(/^.*#/, ''); $.history.load(url); return false; }); }); hi, i have a jquery problem... this script is not working with jquery-1.4.2.min, but it works with jquery-1.2.6.min.js, can anyone help me???the script is the above: (it is not working the tab actions, the slideout works...) http://www.benjaminsterling.com/wp-c...es/sidetab.htm the javascript code is the above: PHP Code: var jqsideTabs; var tabs, h = 50, r = 0,ra = 0; $(document) .ready(function(){ jqsideTabs = $('#sideTabs').addClass('closed'); tabs = jqsideTabs .find('.tab h3') .clone() .appendTo(jqsideTabs) .each(function(i){ var that = $(this), cls = '',ow,newThis, newEl; if( i == 0 ) cls = ' active'; newEl = $('<a href="#" class="tabLinks'+cls+'">' + that.text() + '</a>'); that.replaceWith(newEl); ow = newEl.outerWidth(); if( i == 0 ) ra = ow; else r = ow; h = newEl.css({'top':h , 'right': -ow }).height() + h; newThis = newEl.get(0); newThis.jq = newEl; newThis.i = i; newEl.click(function(){ var el = this.jq; if( jqsideTabs.hasClass( 'closed' ) ){ jqsideTabs.removeClass('closed'); } else if( !jqsideTabs.hasClass( 'closed' ) && el.hasClass('active') ){ jqsideTabs.addClass('closed'); } el .siblings() .removeClass('active') .css({'right': -r }) .end() .addClass('active') .css({'right': -ra }); tabs.eq( this.i ).show().siblings('.tab').hide(); return false; }); }) .end() .parent() .eq(0) .addClass('active') .end() .filter(':not(:eq(0))') .hide() .end(); jqsideTabs.bind("mouseleave",function(){ jqsideTabs .animate({left:-310}, 'fast', function(){ jqsideTabs.addClass('closed').removeAttr('style'); }); }); }); and the html file is: [HTML] <div id="sideTabs"> <div class="tab"> <h3>Tab 1</h3> <div class="gut"> <p>Some text</p> </div> </div> <div class="tab"> <h3>Tab 2</h3> <div class="gut"> <ul> <li>link</li> </ul> </div> </div> <div class="tab"> <h3>Tab 3</h3> <div class="gut"> <ul> <li>link</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> [/HTML] the problem is that the tab button works, but the content doesnt change...in all of tabs showing the same text(showing all tbas content).... can anyone help...please..... Got a timing issue with sending a URI string out to a server side script right before a client side form validation process returns true.. The problem is that the return true gets called to quickly for the submission of the URI string to be completed. So my question is, might there be a way to mix a return and a setTimeout? If so, could some one give a an example? Thanks! Hey Forum, I have this little script working great when all if's are seperated. what i need is to have the script read if one of these fields has a value then result=true. as you see the script now i have this seperated in many different if's for all three text fields. I need to put all text fields like they were one, thanks Code: function ValidateLink(Form) { var result = true; if (formMyLocations.cellAddress.value.length == 0) { alert('Cell address is empty on the locations page'); result = false; } if (formMyLocations.homeAddress.value.length == 0) { alert('Home address is empty on the locations page'); result = false; } if (formMyLocations.carAddress.value.length == 0) { alert('Car address is empty on the locations page'); result = false; } return result; } Would this code i made <html> <head> <title>Demo</title> </head> <html> <body> <h3>Just a Demo</h3> <script type="text/javascript"> var numbers = new Array ( "1", "1", "1", "1", "1", "1" ); for ( i=1; i < numbers.length; i++ ) { alert ( numbers[i] ); } </script> </body> </html> Would that be an exmaple of arrays with elements intilized to 1(true) i keep getting the error GET http://code.jquery.com/jquery.min.map net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS & Failed to load resource: net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS when i load my page...and the havascript doesn't work properly on ym page...how do i resolve this. thanx in advance i'm trying to make a form where if 2 particular options are chosen from 2 dropdown boxes, it puts a value in a text field. Its not working and i hope you can help so far i've got Code: if (document.profile_quote.thickness.selectedIndex == "3" && document.profile_quote.machine.selectedIndex == "1") document.profile_quote.cutspeed.value = "34444" hi peeps, this one might be confusing, if so i apologise! below is a cut down version of the script calling a function: Code: function updateStockRequest(thestatus, theform, thedate) { if(thestatus == 'locked') { if(checkStockRequested()) { if(confirm('Are you sure you want to send for processing?\nYou will not be able to add any more stock!')) { document.getElementById('status').value = 'locked'; document.forms[0].submit(); } } else { alert('You must request some stock first!'); } } } the following is the function being called: Code: function checkStockRequested() { //check to see if stockrequest has items added!!! xmlHttp=GetXmlHttpObject() if (xmlHttp==null) { alert ("Browser does not support HTTP Request"); return; } var params = "?theuid=" + escape(document.getElementById('uid').value); var url="_check_stockrequest.php" url=url+params; ajaxedInner = ""; xmlHttp.open("GET",url, true); xmlHttp.setRequestHeader("If-Modified-Since", "Fri, 31 Dec 1999 23:59:59 GMT"); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange=stateChanged; xmlHttp.send(null); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xmlHttp.readyState == 4){ if (xmlHttp.status == 200) { responsestring = xmlHttp.responseText.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g, ''); alert(responsestring); if(responsestring == 'true') { return true; } else { return false; } } } } } in the testing the function is alerting 'true' but the calling function still fails and says you need to add stock. i must admit ive rarely used the return syntax so maybe im doing it wrong?!? ive tried many variants such as creating a variable and assigning it the string 'true' etc and then using if(checkStockRequested == 'true') but it still fails. help!!!!!!!!! hi guys, maybe im being stupid but any ideas why this doesnt seem to work: Code: function checkSCItems() { //check sccost not blank due to ajax need to do lookup xmlHttp=GetXmlHttpObject() if (xmlHttp==null) { alert ("Browser does not support HTTP Request"); return; } var params = "?scnumber=" + escape(document.getElementById('scnumber').value); var url="_check_scitems.php"; url=url+params; ajaxedInner = ""; xmlHttp.open("GET",url, true); xmlHttp.setRequestHeader("If-Modified-Since", "Fri, 31 Dec 1999 23:59:59 GMT"); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange=stateChanged; xmlHttp.send(null); xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xmlHttp.readyState == 4){ if (xmlHttp.status == 200) { var checkSCItemsResponse = xmlHttp.responseText; if(checkSCItemsResponse == 'found') { return true; } else { window.location.hash = 'scpricebuildup2'; alert('You must first create some cost items'); return false; } } else { alert('There was a problem, please try again, or contact the Administrator'); return false; } } } } im calling this and if it returns true another function is called but for some reason the 2nd function never seems to happen. (that function works fine so it cant be that - if i just set this function to return true everything works fine too) its being called like so: Code: <a href='javascript:;' onclick="if(checkSCItems() && validateText(document.subcontract_order,['scdate','scworks','scpayment','scfirstpayment','scpaymentinterim','scbalance','scretentionat','sccommence','sccompletion','sclabour','scplant','scmaterials']) && validateDate(document.subcontract_order, ['scdate','scfirstpayment','scbalance','sccommence','sccompletion']) && validateSelectNoBlank(document.subcontract_order, ['trading_name'])){window.open('subcontract_order_print.php?id=<?php echo writeIfSet($id) ?>')}"> is there some issue with ajax and return true? do i need to tell it to call another function that calls return true etc? I am trying to figure out that if the function "xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function()" returns true the whole function "function checkUser(str)" should return true as well....so not sure how to do it. i have banged my head since long so please advise! Here is the code below: -------------------------------------------------------- function checkUser(str) { var sp = document.getElementById("msgs"); if (str=="") { document.getElementById("msgs").innerHTML="Username cannot be empty."; return false; } if (str.length <= 6) { document.getElementById("msgs").innerHTML="Username cannot be less than 6 characters and must not start with a number or a special value"; return false; } if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { //code for IE7+, firefox, chrome, opera, safari xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else { //code for old IE xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200) { if (xmlhttp.responseText === 'FOUND') { sp.style.color = "red"; sp.innerHTML = "[ERROR]: The username \"" + str + "\" already exist. Please try a different name."; return false; } else if (xmlhttp.responseText === 'NOT FOUND') { sp.style.color = "blue"; sp.innerHTML = "Username: VALID"; return true; } } } xmlhttp.open("GET", "checkUser.php?q="+str, true); xmlhttp.send(); } Hello all, Can anyone help me with a script for changing font color of a number within a table when there is a match? Table A contains numbers and table B contains numbers. When table B numbers matches some of the numbers in table A, the numbers in table A need to change color. I hope you understand what I mean. Let me first say I am not a java programmer but I can follow the tutorials and get some things to work. Here I am trying to create a password protected page, realizing the level of security is not very high. This page of code, link1.html, will be blank and if the correct password is entered then I want to automatically link to another page, barcs.html. So far, the javascript route hasn't worked for me. [some context] I am writing a little bookmarklet to help me with the online registrations at my school. Here is the setup. Load up a page on the domain. Remove all body elements. Insert an iframe. Set iframe to page for class roster search. (in iframe on school search page) Select class search options, POST the form data, and view results in frame. *This works perfectly, but I need to have it refresh results every minute or so. When I use frame.contentDocument.location.reload(true); the frame loses the post data or something and the page is broken. BUT when I just right click on the frame and select "reload frame" it works perfectly. Whats the deal here? What is the difference between rightclicking the frame and refreshing it like that vs. using javascript to reload the frame? PS: using chrome Hi All, This is in ASP.Net Im creating a task loggin system and this allows the user to raise tasks and update them, im using javascript for validation and if the fields are empty it then changes the fields back ground to Red which is fine but then it goes on to update the data in SQL which i dont want, any suggestions or how i can achieve no post back is the result from the function is False (for fields in error) Html Code where im calling the function Code: <asp:button runat="server" id="btnChangeCommentsAuth" CSSclass="RaiseButton" OnClientClick="CommentsCheck('MainDisplayContentChange_txtAuthCommentsArea');" PostBackUrl="~/RaiseTaskChange.aspx" Text="Auth" /> Javascript function Code: function CommentsCheck(comments) { var com; var result = new boolean(); com = document.getElementById(comments); if (document.getElementById(comments).value == '') { com.style.backgroundColor = "#B20635"; result = 0; } else { result = 1 } } Thanks in Advance look forward to your reply. var s="attr" var i=$(s) // jQuery(elem).attr(attr, eval("elm"+attr)); jQuery(elem).$(s)(attr,eval("elm"+attr));//i tried this. how to assign a variable name in the above code(in place of s) so that i need to add an attribute to the element "elem". Hello there! I am completely new to these forums and to programming in general (however, I used to program some games, albeit not very good ones, on a version of BASIC that came with my Playstation 2 about 10 years ago hehe). I have a basic understanding of functions, loops, if/else/switch and an extremely basic understanding of objects/methods. I wanted to consolidate my knowledge by putting it to practical use so I have made a little text adventure game. At the moment it is horrendously non-user-friendly as it has just been me experimenting with functions, if/else statements etc. Anyway, below is my code and I have two specific questions regarding it (but general answers telling me how I could do things more efficiently OR telling me what I should consider studying would be very appreciate also :)). Firstly, I have a little inventory object up top and when the player picks up something in the game I change the inv item to "true" so they can use it later (it seemed logical!). I would really love to know how the user could type in "inv" and for their inventory to be shown back to them. i.e. How could I show only the "true" items of an object? I have tried coding this myself but I really am stumped for an answer. Secondly, you can see in the "north21" function within the "north2" function that I used a series of if/else statements instead of a switch. I would have much prefered to use a switch and then for the case of "go north" have an if/else statement to check if vineclear is true or not (so that they can pass through to the non-existent north3 room). Is this possible? You can use if/else statements within an if/else statement but it seemed when I tried doing that in a switch it didn't like it. I am running this script through an interpreter to play the "game". I understand that JS probably isn't the best for what I am trying to do, it was more just a "see what I can do" exercise more than anything. Thanks in advance for your help and please be nice to me, forums scare me generally :D testgame.txt I have to attach the code in a txt file as for some reason it wasn't displaying properly when I copied and pasted it here. Join Date Feb 2009 Posts 28,310 Thanks 82 Thanked 4,754 Times in 4,716 Posts Briefly: Code: // based on this: var inv = { sword: false, shield: false, vines: false }; // try this: function displayInventory( ) { var list = [ ]; for ( var item in inv ) { if ( inv[item] == true ) { list.push( item ); } } if ( list.length == 0 ) { return "You have no items in your inventory"; } return "You have these items in your inventory:<ul><li>" + list.join("</li><li>") + "</ul>"; } My code is designed for display in an HTML page, not for use in clumsy console.log( ) coding. prompt() and alert() and confirm() and document.write() and console.log() should be used ONLY when debugging, not for any real work. But if you must use console.log, then try this, to replace the code in italics: Code: return "You have these items in your inventory: " + list.join(","); I don't understand the logic of Break, Return False, Return True. It was never really covered in our college class, and I see everyone using it. I got an A in the class, if that 'proves' that I really tried to apply myself. NOTE: I understand what the function is doing. I just don't understand WHEN to use break, return false or return true if the the translator can determine the conditional statements. PHP Code: function submitForm(){ var ageSelected = false; for (var i=0; i<5; ++1){ if (document.forms[0].ageGroup[i].checked == true) { ageSelected = true; break; } } if (ageSelected == false){ window.alert("You must select your age group"); return false; } else return false; } if the the translator can determine the conditional statements, why not write it like this: PHP Code: function submitForm(){ var ageSelected = false; for (var i=0; i<5; ++1){ if (document.forms[0].ageGroup[i].checked == true) { ageSelected = true; break; // what's the point for the 'break'? Won't the rest of the code be ignored since it passed the first condition? } } if (ageSelected == false){ window.alert("You must select your age group"); return false; } // why not leave the last else out? is it just a 'safety' catch, in case something other than true or false is inputted? else return false; // what's the point? } Questions: Why use return true, if the translator knows it's ture? Why use "return false" if the translator knows it's false and the alert window has already gone up? why not use "break" to stop the code? Why use the "return false" at the end "else" statement? Hi room, Hey, I opened up the source code for this page in google chrome and since i'm learning javascript, i wanted see if i could "read" it and figure out what was going on. I'm am having the hardest time understanding "return false" and "return true". Could someone step me through this via interpreting this code (in bold typeface): Code: var DefaultValue = 'Search'; function clearSearch() { if (document.searchForm.q.value == DefaultValue) { document.searchForm.q.value = ''; } } function validateSearchHeader() { if ( document.searchForm.q.value == '' || document.searchForm.q.value.toLocaleLowerCase() == DefaultValue.toLocaleLowerCase() ) { alert('Please enter at least one keyword in the Search box.'); document.searchForm.q.focus(); return false; } return true; } Thanks! |
