I'd like to be able to have a main contact page where the visitor fills in general info like name and such, and then clicks a link to get into the specific area form he needs. I've done VB programming and used it to manipulate an IE document object. I've explored JavaScript and managed to code one or two IF functions. I'm wondering if I open the linked form in a new window, can I use JS to pull the info from the first window and insert it into the new window? Seems like it would be easy, but I don't know so I'm asking. (MasterofFollies gave me a PHP solution in http://www.codingforums.com/showthread.php?t=187819 , but I havene't had any time at all to give myself to understanding it!) Ed Hey everybody, what regular expression do i have to use to get the 2 last elements of a user agent? eg in firefox how can i get : Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 Firefox & 7.01 ? thanks! This is what I have: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#add').click(function() { alert ('test') }); $("form#exercise").submit(function() { // we want to store the values from the form input box, then send via ajax below var activity = $('#activity').attr('value'); $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "newActiveProc.php", data: "activity="+ activity +"&func=search", success: function(msg){ $("span#results").html(msg); } }); return false; }); }); </script> Instead of alerting the user, I want to send their choice to the a table on the same page. Does anyone have any idea of how I might do this. I've posted three threads in the ajax forum with no response. Hi, I am trying to write a small javascript program where I can call the following two functions and store information which a user enters. The problem is if I call the function a second time to add more information the array gets overwritten. info () insert (name, surname, favouriteColour) function info () { name = prompt ("Please enter your name."); surname = prompt ("Please enter your surname."); favouriteColour = prompt ("Please enter your favourite colour."); } function insert (name, surname, favouriteColour) { var info = new Array (); info.name = name; info.surname = surname; info.favouriteColour = favouriteColour; return info }; Help is really appreciated.. For my Javascript class, we are to take a code from the book and add on to it. In this code, I decided to add custom markers and info windows for each location. I got the info windows to work but they are the same for each marker. How can I fix this? Here is what I have: Code: <script> function init() { var myLatLng = new google.maps.LatLng(36.795209, -3.339844); var myOptions = { zoom: 2, center: myLatLng }; var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map"), myOptions); //This is Location 1 var image = 'image1.jpg'; var canyon= new google.maps.Marker({ position: new google.maps.LatLng(35.9766,-113.7717), map: map, title:"Grand Canyon, USA"}); var infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({ content: "Grand Canyon, USA"}); google.maps.event.addListener(canyon, 'click', function(){ infoWindow.open(map, canyon); }); //This is Location 2 var image = 'image2.jpg'; var paricutin= new google.maps.Marker({ position: new google.maps.LatLng(19.5948,-102.4331), map: map, title:"Paricutin, Mexico"}); var infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({ content: "Paricutin, Mexico"}); google.maps.event.addListener(paricutin, 'click', function(){ infoWindow.open(map, paricutin); }); //This is Location 3 var image = 'image3.jpg'; var victoria= new google.maps.Marker({ position: new google.maps.LatLng(-17.928,25.826), map: map, title:"Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe"}); var infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({ content: "Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe"}); google.maps.event.addListener(victoria, 'click', function(){ infoWindow.open(map, victoria); }); //This is Location 4 var image = 'image4.jpg'; var reef= new google.maps.Marker({ position: new google.maps.LatLng(-17.98,146.76), map: map, title:"Great Barrier Reef, Austrailia"}); var infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({ content: "Great Barrier Reef, Austrailia"}); google.maps.event.addListener(reef, 'click', function(){ infoWindow.open(map, reef); }); //This is Location 5 var image = 'image5.jpg'; var harbor= new google.maps.Marker({ position: new google.maps.LatLng(-22.8424,-43.1502), map: map, title:"Harbor Rio De Janerio, Brazil"}); var infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({ content: "Harbor Rio De Janerio, Brazil"}); google.maps.event.addListener(harbor, 'click', function(){ infoWindow.open(map, harbor); }); //This is Location 6 var image = 'image6.jpg'; var everest= new google.maps.Marker({ position: new google.maps.LatLng(27.98783,86.92476), map: map, title:"Mount Everest Peak, Nepal"}); var infoWindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({ content: "Mount Everest Peak, Nepal"}); google.maps.event.addListener(everest, 'click', function(){ infoWindow.open(map, everest); }); } google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', init); </script> I guess this case applies to both popup windows opened by window.open() and by showModalWindow(). I have two buttons in popup window, "Cancel" and "Save". If the user clicks either button, there is a "process" at parent window before close() at popup being called. The problem now is, if the user click the "X" sign at top right corner of that popup window, how to trigger the "process"? I think I can do nothing in popup window since the closure is unexpected programmatically. Can I put some kind of listener in parent window to detect if popup is closed? hi i was reading this but i tried it and i could not get it to work correctly. Quote: http://www.javascriptkit.com/javatutors/openclose.shtml here is what im trying to do, i installed a shout box for my users, its integrated by using session username. but what i want to do is have a username list under the shoutbox that shows which members (usernames) have the box open. that way the other members can see someone is out there to see their message.. one alternative would be to just have the shoutbox auto open (which i need to learn how to do) as soon as they sign on to the site, but what if they close it right away i still have the same issue (they cant see the message that someone is sending them) here is how i open the window now, they have to click on the link. Code: <a href="#" onClick="javascript:popup=window.open('shoutbox/minichat.php','SHTB','status=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,scrollbars=0,width=297px,height=300px');"><font size="2">Shoutbox</font></a> so how do i know which users have it open? and how to i autostart the shoutbox? (do i used onload and onunload ??) thanks I have a textarea with two buttons on it on the main page. When the user types into the textbox and hits the first button, a new window appears with the html language the user typed into the box. the other button closes the window. I cannot get the user's input to show up in the new window... Here is my code so far Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Test</title> </head> <body> <form name = "form1"> <br> Type your HTML code below: <br> <textarea name = "userInput" cols = "70" rows = "30"></textarea> <br> <input type = "button" value = "Preview" name = "preview" onclick = "write2new()"> <input type = "button" value = "Close Preview" name = "closePreview" onclick = "w.close()"> </form> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- function write2new() { var t = document.form1.userInput.value; var w = open(""); w.document.write(t); w.document.close(); } //--> </script> </body> </html> EDIT: I SOLVED THIS BY USING "#" instead of "?". Thank you. Hello. My goal is to take a user's email from a form, store it in a cookie, and append it to the window location on the following page. I am doing this so that when a user shares the page with "add this widget" the stats will show me who shared the page. The problem I have is that window.location.replace("?"+ user_email); seems to be sending the browser in an infinite loop. Right now it is running as an inline function in the head. I tried calling the function with body onload and had the same problem. Code: <script = "Javascript"> (function readCookie() { var user_email = unescape(document.cookie); if (document.cookie) { window.location.replace("?"+user_email); } })(); </script> Is there another way I could achieve the same result? Thank you, Jack I am facing an issue where a link on my website opens in a new window if you simply click on it. However, if you right click and say open in new window or new tab, it opens the same window (URL) again from where the link is clicked. Self Service Option is a link and the JSP calls a function getSelfServSite() when the link is clicked. This is how the code flows in my case function getSelfServSite() { getToTheLink("${myConfigInfo.selfServiceURL}"); // this is because the URL is configurable } function getToTheLink(url) { window.open (url, "currentWindow", ""); } What am I doing wrong. I want it to go to the right link no matter how the user click it. Please advise. Thanks hi everyone, i am on a new computer and without my web designer, expresion web by ms, i want to know if anybody knows of a good, free, lightweight web developer that is good for javascript testing, and not a long download, Hi everyone, I only know basic programing and was hoping someone can give me a hand with implementing checkboxes. What I'm hoping to achieve is a form that will have a number of checkboxes that, when a box is checked, the text corresponding to said box will be logged at the bottom of the page. Each checkbox will also have a numerical value which will display the tally at the bottom. for example, I might have the following two boxes Box 1: I have a Bike +3 box 2: I have a Car +5 When both boxes are checked, the log at the bottom would read: I have a Bike +3 I have a Car +5 Total = +8 Code: <form action=""> <input type="checkbox" name="vehicle" value="Bike" /> I have a bike +3<br /> <input type="checkbox" name="vehicle" value="Car" /> I have a car +5 </form> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en" > <title>Assignment 5 - JavaScript Loops</title> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function getGrade(){ var i= Number(document.getElementById("input1").value); m=Math.floor(i/2); for(var k=1; k<=i; k++){ for(var j=1; j<=k; j++){ document.write(j+" "); if(j==k){ document.write("\n"); } if(j==i){ decreaseLoop(j, k); } } } function decreaseLoop(j, k){ for(k=k-1; k>0; k--){ for(var l=1; l<=k; l++){ document.write(l+" "); if(l==k){ document.write("\n"); } } } } } </script> <style type="text/css"> #main{ margin:auto; width:70%; } #top{ font-size:20px; font-weight:bolder; color:#007700; text-decoration:underline; } #s1{ font-size:20px; font-weight:bold; color:#7700ff; } #s2{ font-size:20px; font-weight:bold; color:#00ff00; } #s3{ font-size:20px; font-weight:bold; color:#ff0000; } #form1{ width:600px; height:80px; padding:20px; background-color:#aaaaaa; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="main"> <p id="top">Assignment 5 - JavaScript Loops</p> <span id=s1>This is Form for checking Loop</span> <form id=form1 name=form1> <table> <tr><td>Enter Number </td><td>: <input type="text" id=input1 name="input1" /></td></tr> <tr><td><input type="button" name=btn1 value="Get Number" onclick=getGrade() /></td></tr> </table> </form> </div> </body> </html> When I execute this code, on the screen I see all output in one line. Which is not hat I want. But when I see it in Firebug (for firefox)or Developer Tool Bar(for IE) , I see it printed out in pyramid form(as required). So why is this output in one line on screen ? How cn I get it in pyramid form ? Thanks Hello all, and thank you for your coments, I want to preserve a 16/9 aspect ratio to the window after any resize, making the width a function of the height. As I have a window.resizeTo() inside the window.onresize event function, the infinite loop is served. How may I quit it? Code: <html><head><title>Title</title><script languaje="javascript"> const c_ra=16/9; window.onresize = function WindowReSize() { var myWidth = 0, myHeight = 0; if( typeof( window.innerWidth ) == 'number' ) { //Non-IE // myWidth = window.innerWidth; myHeight = window.innerHeight; } else if( document.documentElement && ( document.documentElement.clientWidth || document.documentElement.clientHeight ) ) { //IE 6+ in 'standards compliant mode' // myWidth = document.documentElement.clientWidth; myHeight = document.documentElement.clientHeight; } myWidth = Math.floor(myHeight*c_ra); window.resizeTo(myWidth,myHeight); // ** CAUTION resize event in a onresize event handler ! }; </script></head><body><p>Hello World</p></body></html> i have this code i need to close the parent.html window when the child window opened, i need the code for that working well in IE and Firefox Parent.html <HTML> <SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript"> function sendTo() { window.open('child.html','_blank','resizable=yes,width='+(screen.width-500)+',height='+(screen.height-500)+''); } </SCRIPT> <BODY > <form name="form"> <input type="text" value="" name="text1" id="pdetails1"> <input type="text" value="" name="text1" id="pdetails2"> </br> <input type="submit" value="submit" onClick="sendTo()"> </BODY> </HTML> child.html <html> <body> <form> <input type=text name="text5" value=""> <input type=submit name="submit"value="submit"> </form> </body> </html> Here is the program: http://www.1728.com/newwindow.htm Basically, I want to input a number in the input box, which assigns a number to the variable numval located at document.box1.b1. When clicking on the "new window" button, an alert displays the input box value, then another window opens and displays the integers 1 through 12 and the amount squared. I would like the new window to obtain the number from the previous window so that the new window will display integers (and their squares) from 1 to the value of numval. hello everybody i need your help and experience for having code to show ( overlay / modal window ) to the user when closing or navigating away from the page ( i want put in this window facebook share to make the user to share the page in his facebook ) , bytheway i wanna use it in my wordpress in every post could it be happen ? Thanks for helping Hi Ive found out how to force another browser window to open at a certain size when a link is clicked. Here's the whole line of code including the layer, the javascript and the image, <div id="Layer6" style="position:absolute; width:10px; height:8px; z-index:6; left: 561px; top: 310px"><a href="javascript:;" onClick="MM_openBrWindow('navigation%20instructions.htm','','width=50,height=50')"><img src="images/info.gif" width="15" height="15" border="0"></a></div> How do I adapt this so I can also specify the x&y co-ordinates of the opened window relative to the window that launched it. thanks alot Masten I am looking to have a link open a closeable window that is contained within a browser window. If you click on the "sizing charts" link on this website, this is exactly what I am looking to do: http://www.bella.com/mapper.php?pageid=40 The window is contained within the current browser window, it can be dragged around, but not outside the parameters of the browser window. Is there a title for this technique that I can research? Not looking to waste anybodys time, but if I can get steered in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Hi All, I need to show/focus the parent window which is in back when click a link from child window in Chrome. This problem is in Chrome browser only. We have used the below code self.blur(); Window.opener.focus(); But this is not working in Google Chrome. Please suggest me some workaround to achieve this. You must pay attention to upper/lower case spelling, carefully. By the way, you shouldn't need the blur() call. If you focus on some window (any window) then any other focus should be lost. |
