JavaScript - Split Function Creating A Random Comma
Hi there!
I'm trying to retrieve the integer value in the string: #10 So I'm using the JS Split function Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var str="#10"; document.write(str.split("#")); </script> Is the code I'm using, but I keep getting a comma before my result.. in this case, my result is ",10" What should I do? Thanks! Kind Regards Matthew P.S. I know that it's an array, but is there still anyway for me to get rid of the comma? Similar TutorialsHi, I am inserting fields from a .csv file into database using integration engine(rhapsody) there is a javascript filter where I am trying to catch rows that have extra commas in the field text. Tried using the following code but the rows with extra commas just error and don't get inserted. Code: // Loop through all the input messages for (var i = 0; i < input.length; i++) { var next = output.append(input[i]); // Get the body of the current input message var body = input[i].text; // Set the body next.text = body; var name =next.getProperty("BaseFilename"); var fields = name; var fieldsList = fields.split(/\s*,\s*/); if (fieldsList.length >= 10) { name="error"+i; input.setProperty("BaseFilename", name ); } } Whats wrong with the code below? I am trying to create a javascript code in which I prompt the user for a number (an integer from 0 to 100) to search for, then search a function with the number they entered and then display whether the number was found, and if found, a location where it can be found within the list. Can you please tell me what is wrong? <html> <head> </head> <body> <script language = "javascript"> var list = new Array(200); for (var i=0; i < 200; i++){ list=Math.round(Math.random()*100) + " "; document.write(list); } var value=prompt("What is the number you are searching for? ", " "); if (list[i]==value){ {alert("Number has been found in location" +i)}; } </script> </body> </html> Thank you Hey all, I have a sentence generator running on a site. I am using sort to shuffle the array and pop to return the item. All is well, except Safari does not shuffle the array. Here is the technique I am using: Code: <script type = "text/javascript"> var adj=["invisible", "running", "eating", "mad", "talking", "jumping", "living", "weird", "super"]; for (i = 1; i <= 4; i++){ adj.sort(function(){return Math.round(Math.random());}); document.write( [ "Bob is" + " " + adj.pop() + "." + "<br>" ]); } </script> In most browsers it generates 4 unique sentences. But in Safari it does not shuffle the array so it will always output: Bob is super. Bob is weird. Bob is living. Bob is jumping. Any ideas as to what is happening? ***I need to randomise the order of some questions that are in this format. Any ideas? Please Help...thanks in advance Another homework assignment that I can't quite seem to get to work... I've been asked to do the following using javascript: -Create a function named randInt() with one parameter of "size". Declare a variable named "rNum" equal to a random integer between 1 and the value of the size variable. Return the value of the "rNum" varialbe from the function. -Create a function named getQuote() with one parameter anemd "qNum". The function should create an array named mtQuotes with five quotes; there should be no quote for the array index "0". Return the value of the mtQuotes array for the qNum index. - In the div element of "quotes" insert a script with the following commands: Declare a variable named "randValue" which is euqal to a random integer between 1 and 5 (use the randInt() function). Declare a variable named "quoteText" containing the quote whose array index value is equal to randValue. Write the value of quoteText to the web page. Here is what I have...it returns undefined. thanks. Hi everyone I need some help creating a function which does the same thing for the chosen elements. I have #design1 #design1servicetext and #design1servicebutton. Code: //Service hover// $('#design1').mouseenter(function (){ $('#design1servicetext').css('background-position', '0 -91px') $('#design1servicebutton').css('background-position', '0 -33px') }) .mouseleave(function (){ $('#design1servicetext').css('background-position', '0 0px') $('#design1servicebutton').css('background-position', '0 0px')}); //Service hover end// How can I create a function, in which I have to choose 3 divs to do the animation? A function like Code: animatebg('#design1','#design1servicetext','#design1servicebutton'); Can someone please help me? I've tried so many function tutorials but none of them worked for what I wanted to do. Thank you a lot in advance! Sorry about the title, I didn't know what else to use to describe my problem. Basically, I'm generating a random word with a function; then I'm trying to pass this word down to another function. The problem is, when I pass the word, it changes each time (due to it being randomly generated originally). I'm only calling the function once (via button click), but I'm also calling the function in my code lower down to retrieve the returned variable; and the function seems to be running again and returning a new word from my array. Here's a snippet of my code: Code: function ranNum(){ var ranNum = Math.round(Math.random()*10); var chosenWord = wordArray[ranNum]; return chosenWord; } function makeBoxes(x){ //remove children when new word is chosen var hM = document.getElementById("hangMan"); while(hM.firstChild){ hM.removeChild(hM.firstChild); } var chosenWord = ranNum(x); var wL = chosenWord.length; //create box for length of letters in word var i = 0; for(i=0;i<wL;i++){ var cBoxes = document.createElement("div"); cBoxes.className = "letterBoxes"; cBoxes.innerHTML = chosenWord.charAt(i); hangMan.appendChild(cBoxes); } return chosenWord; } function checkLetter(y){ var chosenWord = makeBoxes(y); alert(chosenWord); } So I generate a word with one button; now I need to be able to work with said word in my checkLetter() function. The word changes however. Any help would be greatly received. I've looked for a solution to this issue, but it seems like a little different scenario than other situations. I made a system for generating friend requests on Facebook. I have a grid that is 6 x 3, for a total of 18 cells. Each cell has a picture in it, and the picture is linked to the Facebook friend request page. My problem is that since each cell is populated at random from the array, I'm getting lots of repeats. For example, some picutures are in 5 cells, and some are in none. I'm trying to figure out how to make it so that once a picture is used once in the grid, it does not get used again in the same grid. I still want every cell filled at random on each page load, I just want to prevent the repeating. The second column on the gridview is client name and the third column is account holder. The user can select checkboxes (on multiple rows) to modify data (account holder). I want to add clientName column value in a comma delimited string to a hiddenfield on my page. How do I do that using javascript, as I do not want to use postback and looping through each row on the grid to get the checkbox status. When a checkbox is checked, it should append the hiddenfield value. I am a newb on javascript. Please review my javascript code and suggest corrections. I am getting the hiddenfield value as blank no matter what checkboxes are checked. I also know that my code is not targeting the correct row to get ClientName (row where checkbox is checked). I have a web form that is submitted and then we pull up the information in excel using delimited fields. The problem with this is the end user will use commas (even though we have messages that say do not use commas) which messes up our data in excel. I created some code for a different field where commas were more frequent but there are new fields that users are adding commas into. Anyways, I can't figure out exactly how to code this and was wondering if someone could work out the kinks for me: My code: Code: if ( trim( frm.elements["ShipToBuildingRoom."] ).length < 4 ) oops += "You must enter your Building and Room information.\n"<br> var val = frm.ShipToBuildingRoom.value.replace(/[^\d\;\,]/g, "" ).replace(/\,/g, ";"); frm.ShipToBuildingRoom.value = val; Hi, I'm working on refining my search function. At the moment it works fine like this: Code: function searchLocations() { var found = false; var input = document.getElementById('autocomplete').value; for (var j = 0; j < gmarkers.length; j++) { if (gmarkers[j].myname.toLowerCase() == input.toLowerCase()) { found = true; gmarkers[j].show(); myclick(j); } } if ( ! found ) alert("No matches found. Please check your spelling or refine your search."); } but you have to get the input exactly the same as it is in the array for it to work (as it should, being that that's the way it's written). I wanted to split it so that for example Black Cat Hotel would pop if the user entered Black OR Cat OR Hotel (or any combination of the above). So I thought that this might work: Code: function searchLocations() { var found = false; var input = document.getElementById('autocomplete').value; for (var j = 0; j < gmarkers.length; j++) { var s = gmarkers[j].myname.toLowerCase().split(" "); if ( s == input.toLowerCase()) { found = true; gmarkers[j].show(); myclick(j); } } if ( ! found ) alert("No matches found. Please check your spelling or refine your search."); } but obviously not. Is there some better way to do this? |
