JavaScript - Validation Not Working?!
Please help, my validation is not working:
I added this to my HEAD Code: <script> function validate(){ var temp if (document.form.name.value=="") { alert("Please select a customer.") return false } return true } </script> then here is my form: Code: <form action="send-massemail-script.php" method="post" name="form" onsubmit="return validate()"> <fieldset> <!-- Set class to "column-left" or "column-right" on fieldsets to divide the form into columns --> <p> <label>Customer Name</label> <select name="name" id="name"> <option value="Please select name">Please select name</option> <?php while($row1 = mysql_fetch_array($result3)) { echo '<option value="'.$row1['id'].'">'.$row1['customer_name'].'</option>'; } ?> </select> </p> <p> <label>Email Title</label> <input class="text-input small-input" type="text" id="small-input" name="EmailTitle" /> </p> <p> <label>Email Body</label> <textarea rows="15" cols="79" name="EmailBody" id="textarea" class="text-input textarea wysiwyg" style="width: 930px; height: 247px;"></textarea> </p> <p> <input class="button" type="submit" value="Send Email" /> </p> </fieldset> <div class="clear"></div><!-- End .clear --> </form> Similar TutorialsHi all, I have created a contact form using php and have added some javascipt code to validate the fields, problem is the validation isnt working. Can anyone give me a little advice on how i can get this working? Page is located he http://www.brownscountryhouse.co.uk/testing/test.php The javascript used is: Code: <script language="javaScript"> function ValidateForm(){ var numeID=document.form1.nume var surnameID=document.form1.surname var emailID=document.form1.email if ((numeID.value==null)||(numeID.value=="")){ alert("Please enter your name") numeID.focus() return false } if ((surnameID.value==null)||(surnameID.value=="")){ alert("Please enter your surname") surnameID.focus() return false } if ((emailID.value==null)||(emailID.value=="")){ alert("Please enter your email address") emailID.focus() return false } if (echeck(emailID.value)==false){ emailID.value="" emailID.focus() return false } return true } function echeck2(str) { alert("Invalid E-mail Address") return false } function echeck(str) { var at="@" var dot="." var lat=str.indexOf(at) var lstr=str.length var ldot=str.indexOf(dot) if (str.indexOf(at)==-1){ alert("Invalid Email Address") return false } if (str.indexOf(at)==-1 || str.indexOf(at)==0 || str.indexOf(at)==lstr){ alert("Invalid Email Address") return false } if (str.indexOf(dot)==-1 || str.indexOf(dot)==0 || str.indexOf(dot)==lstr){ alert("Invalid Email Address") return false } if (str.indexOf(at,(lat+1))!=-1){ alert("Invalid Email Address") return false } if (str.substring(lat-1,lat)==dot || str.substring(lat+1,lat+2)==dot){ alert("Invalid Email Address") return false } if (str.indexOf(dot,(lat+2))==-1){ alert("Invalid Email Address") return false } if (str.indexOf(" ")!=-1){ alert("Invalid Email Address") return false } return true } </script> Thanks in advance for looking! Kyle Hi all, ive been staring at this code for over an hour now and i cant see what is wrong with it. any chance of a wee look over for me ? Thank you Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Comment Form</TITLE> <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <SCRIPT language=javascript> function Validate() { var Message = "" Message = Message + Checkname() if (Message == ""){ return true } else { alert(Message) return false } } function CheckName() { var UserName = document.form.name.value if (UserName == "") { Message = "Something's wrong with your forename" + "\n" } else { Message = "" } return Message } </SCRIPT> </HEAD> <BODY> <FORM name=form onsubmit="return Validate()" action="sent.htm" method=post encType=text/plain> <TABLE BORDER=1 CELLSPACING=0> <TBODY> <TD> <TABLE BORDER=0 CELLSPACING=5> <TR> <TD><font size="2" face="Verdana"><b>Forename:</b></TD> <TD><INPUT NAME=name size=25></TD> </TR> <TR> <TD></TD> <TD align=right> <INPUT TYPE=reset VALUE="Reset" name=submit2> <INPUT TYPE=submit VALUE="Submit" NAME=Submit> </TD> </TR> </TBODY> </TABLE> </TABLE> </FORM> </BODY> </HTML> I have a simple form here with a function to validate it, but I have no idea where I'm going wrong. I'm very familiar with ActionScript and C++, so I get the coding aspect of it, but one thing I'm not familiar with is how exactly JavaScript and HTML communicate. The problem is that this form always submits, even if my function returns false...but I can't even see if it returns false anyway, because alert() doesn't seem to be working either. Here's what I have for my HTML: Code: <form name="myForm" onSubmit="return checkForm();" action="processForm.php" method="post"> <input type="text" size="25" name="firstName" value="*First Name" /> <br /> <input type="text" size="25" name="lastName" value="Last Name" /> <br /> <input type="text" size="25" name="phoneNumber" value="Phone" /> <br /> <input type="text" size="25" name="emailAddress" value="*Email" /> <br /> <textarea rows="6" cols="20">Message</textarea> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> And here's the JavaScript function: Code: function checkForm(){ with(firstName){ if(value==NULL || value=="" || value==defaultValue){ return false;} } with(emailAddress){ if(value==NULL || value=="" || value==defaultValue){ return false;} } return true; } What bugs me is even when I try to check my work by using alert statements to see what parts of the code are being executed, they never seem to come up. So it's kind of left me doing lots of guessing and trying a million things. Even if that last line in the JS function is "return false," the form still submits anyway. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this up? I wrote a function to to validate some elements in my form and for some reason I can't seem to figure out why my radio validation is not working. There are about 3 to 4 radio buttons. all with the same name, but i need to make sure that at least one out of this group is selected. Below is my code. Any help would be very useful. Thanks! JS: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function validate_required(field,alerttxt,select) { with (field) { if (value==null||value=="") { alert(alerttxt);return false; } else { return true; } } } function validate_form(thisform) { with (thisform) { if (document.getElementsByName('sleeper').checked==false) { window.alert('Please select a sleeper') return false;} } } //last </script> Form: Code: <form name="week_picks" method="post" action="confirm.php" onsubmit="return validate_form(this)"> <input name="sleeper" type="radio" value="<?=$sleeper;?>" /> <input name="sleeper" type="radio" value="<?=$sleeper;?>" /> <input name="sleeper" type="radio" value="<?=$sleeper;?>" /> etc... </form> I have used this formula before, for some reason it isnt working properly. If the value is equal to 0 it will give an alert and return false. Then if you change the value of the drop down it won't let you submit. Does anyone see anything wrong? Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function validate_form ( ) { valid = true; if ( document.week_picks.blowout.value == "0" ) { alert ( "Please Select a Blowout" ); } return false; } //--> </script> Code: <form name="week_picks" method="post" action="confirm.php" onsubmit="return validate_form()"> <select id="blowout" name="blowout"> <option value="0">..</option> .... </select> Thanks for any help. Hello: I am using javascript validation for submitting a form. All the other fields are working except for the Terms of Use checkbox. Here is my code and my link... I have been trying to fix for 2 hours now! Please help. I tried using jquery 1.6.1, 1.5.2, min.validation, regular validation, i changed the buttons to input type="submit" and did everything else I could find but nothing works. When you click submit, it does not validate. It goes straight to my thank you page and I get a blank form in return. I do not know much jquery, just enough to know what I copy and paste and make some minimal changes. I'm pretty good at code and usually work out the answer myself. I am doing some work for a client, working on some code written by someone else. It is a form, and for some reason the validation isn't working. The form sends with or without data entered into the mandatory fields. I can't look at the code anymore.. Is this the correct place I would ask for help with such a thing? Thanks kindly. Hi guys, Been stuck for a few days with this scenario. Any help? The alert box appears on an error. I need to just make sure that a Checkbox is checked, and that a Text field has content. Sounds simple but I cannot find any thing that has a check and a text field. Here what I have. Can I modify this script to do this? A Checkbox MUST be checked and Text field MUST be filled out. This currently does the text field fine, but no Checkbox obviously. How can I add a checkbox validation to this? Thats it. Any help is appreciated. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var textFields = ["digsig"]; function validateForm( ) { var oops = ""; // must initialize this! var form = document.sig; for ( var t = 0; t < textFields.length; ++t ) { var field = form[textFields[t]]; var value = field.value.replace(/^\s+/,"").replace(/\s+$/,""); // trim the input if ( value.length < 1 ) { oops += "You MUST enter your Digital Signature"; } } if ( oops != "" ) { alert("ERROR:" + oops); return false; } } } </script> Hello all, new here Seems like a very nice place to be apart of. I have my website www.gebcn.com. If you view source you will see all that I have done, but more importantly my problem. I have the JS code at the top there and I am unable to W3C validate my HTML because of the JS. I am using XHTML strict and would like to stay using it. The JS I have at the top is my form validation code. I am able to do any validating that I need with this "snippet" of code, I have shrank it from my library version just to use for this newsletter. Until now W3C validating was not important now for some reason it is and I am faced with this problem. I am not a Javascript guy more of a HTML/CSS guy and I can manipulate JS to suit my needs. <problem> I have tried to make this "snippet" of JS code an external file but receive multiple errors with the JS calling for the FORM NAME as it is not on the same page. The form NAME=NEWSLETTER is another problem, as W3C says I am unable to use attribute "NAME" in this location. <problem> I would like to keep the JS close to how it is now as I have a library to use this JS over and over again. Any pointers in the right direction or solutions to my problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Hopefully it is not to hard huh If there is anything anyone needs, the code pasted here, or anything else please let me know. Thanks again! Hi All, I have two sites using zeroclipboard (hosted at google code) one works only in firefox and barely, the other is not working at all. It does use Flash, but I think the issue is on the js side of things. On both links, clicking the filename below the thumbnail will copy and add the link as an IMG code to a div below. *working* link http://pics.boasbysatyra.com/access/spiders.php This one only works in FF, and the clip area is offset badly. Here is the template for the zc code: Code: <div class="photo" style="float: left; padding: 4px;"> <div class="exif"><a href="[~41~]?dir=[+images_dir+]&file=[+filename+]" rel="shadowbox[exif_[+content_id+]]" title="exif data for [+filename+]" alt="exif data for [+filename+]">EXIF Data</a></div> <a class="thumb" rel="shadowbox[[+content_id+]]" href="[+images_dir+][+filename+]" title="[+title+] | [+description+]"> <img src="[+thumbs_dir+][+filename+]" alt="[+title+]" /> </a> <div class="filecode" id="d_clip_button[+filename+]">[+filename+] <script language="JavaScript"> var clip = new ZeroClipboard.Client(); clip.setText( 'http://pics.boasbysatyra.com[+images_dir+][+filename+]' ); clip.glue( 'd_clip_button[+filename+]' ); clip.addEventListener( 'onComplete', my_complete ); function my_complete( client, text ) { $('.picklist').append('<div class="piclinks">[IMG]' + text + '[/IMG]</div>'); } </script> </div> </div> And the JS for the page: Code: var needRef; //flag for page reload function pEdit(){ needRef = 1; } Shadowbox.init({ handleOversize: "resize", modal: true, initialHeight: 32, initialWidth: 400, overlayOpacity: 0.85, onClose: function(){//check for reload flag and reload if (needRef == 1){window.location.href=window.location.href;} } }); ZeroClipboard.setMoviePath('/js/zc/ZeroClipboard10.swf'); function initMenu() { $('#menu ul').hide(); $('#menu ul:first').show(); $('#menu li a').click(function() { var checkElement = $(this).next(); if ((checkElement.is('ul')) && (checkElement.is(':visible'))) { //return false; } if ((checkElement.is('ul')) && (!checkElement.is(':visible'))) { $('#menu ul:visible').slideUp('normal'); checkElement.slideDown('normal'); return false; } }); } $(document).ready(function() { initMenu(); }); Now on to the totally broken one - it creates the elements required, but gives them a 0x0 area! http://jb.boasbysatyra.com/forum-pic...cs/nature.html Code: div class="photo" style="float: left; margin: 4px;"> <div class="exif"><a href="[~133~]?dir=[+images_dir+]&file=[+filename+]" rel="shadowbox[exif_[+content_id+]]" title="exif data for [+filename+]" alt="exif data for [+filename+]">EXIF Data</a></div> <a class="thumb" rel="shadowbox[[+content_id+]]" href="[+images_dir+][+filename+]" title="[+title+] | [+description+]"> <img src="[+thumbs_dir+][+filename+]" alt="[+title+]" /> </a> <div id="d_clip_container[+filename+]" style="position:relative; width: 120px; height: 0.5em;"> <div class="filecode" id="d_clip_button[+filename+]">[+filename+] <script language="JavaScript"> var clip = new ZeroClipboard.Client(); clip.setText( 'http://jb.boasbysatyra.com[+images_dir+][+filename+]' ); clip.glue( 'd_clip_button[+filename+]','d_clip_container[+filename+]' ); clip.addEventListener( 'onComplete', my_complete ); function my_complete( client, text ) { $('.picklist').append('<div class="piclinks">[IMG]' + text + '[/IMG]</div>'); } </script> </div> </div> </div> On this one I wrapped it as suggested on the zc site, I originally started with the code for the other site - it didn't work, so I went tweaking... Here is the JS: Code: var needRef; //flag for page reload function pEdit(){ needRef = 1; } Shadowbox.init({ handleOversize: "resize", modal: true, initialHeight: 32, initialWidth: 400, overlayOpacity: 0.85, onClose: function(){//check for reload flag and reload if (needRef == 1){needRef = 0; window.location.href=window.location.href;} } }); ZeroClipboard.setMoviePath('/js/zc/ZeroClipboard10.swf'); $(document).ready(function() { $(".dim img").fadeTo("slow", 0.65); $(".dim img").hover(function(){ $(this).fadeTo("slow", 1.0); },function(){ $(this).fadeTo("slow", 0.65); }); $('#mainContent').hide().fadeIn(1200); //When page loads... $(".tab_content").hide(); //Hide all content // $("ul.tabs li:first").addClass("active").show(); //Activate first tab // $(".tab_content:first").show(); //Show first tab content //On Click Event $("ul.tabs li").click(function() { $("ul.tabs li").removeClass("active"); //Remove any "active" class $(this).addClass("active"); //Add "active" class to selected tab $(".tab_content").hide(); //Hide all tab content var activeTab = $(this).find("a").attr("href"); //Find the href attribute value to identify the active tab + content $(activeTab).fadeIn(); //Fade in the active ID content return false; }); }); (function($) { $(document).ready(function(){ $('.menu1').ptMenu(); $('.menu2').ptMenu({vertical:true}); }); })(jQuery); I have taken a look at this for a few days and tried many things with no luck, any help is appreciated. Thanks! Ok, here's the page as it is right now: http://www.crackin.com/dev/index.php The paganation for the top 3 images is Sweet Pages: http://tutorialzine.com/2010/05/swee...tion-solution/ The content loading below is a page-replace script I got he http://css-tricks.com/dynamic-page-replacing-content/ And I'm also trying to integrate shadowbox (or lightbox, whichever will work) into the lower set of images. I have 2 problems right now I can't figure out, and I'm sure it somehow has to do with the fact I'm trying to mash 3 different JS addons into a single page, I'm still pretty new to this whole JS thing... First problem I'm having is that IE7 and Opera don't like the links in the upper images. Clicking a gallery image does not load the associated page below from those 2 browsers, however IE8 and FF seem to work fine. Second problem is getting shadowbox/lightbox to work on those lower images. I tried a couple different things but main thing I did is make sure the script is actually working by setting the header text to a link with shadowbox attached and that worked. That same link doesn't work when applied to the lower images (loads image in new window). Lightbox does the same thing. Thanks for any help. I hope I have this post in the right place! Any help would be very much appreciated... I have a feature on my website that allows users to choose the website background (using alternate css sheets) and then uses an externally linked javascript file to store the background choice as a cookie so it is consistent throughout the website. This works perfectly locally (i.e. when previewing my website on my computer) but now it is uploaded to my host it doesn't appear to be working. (with the same browser) My javascript is he http://www. b r p - e n v .com/javascript/backgroundchange.js (with no spaces) The website that the javascript file is linked to is http://www. b r p - e n v .com (with no spaces) In the head I have: <script type="text/javascript" src="../javascript/backgroundchange.js"></script> ...then I have: <body onload="set_style_from_cookie()"> ...and for users to choose which background: <form> <input type="image" src="../images/white-background-thumb.jpg" onclick="switch_style('bg1');return false;" name="theme" value="White" id="bg1"> etc... </form> My problem is: The background reverts back to the default when moving to a different page. Thanx in advance. Hello, I dont know if I am going about this the right way, but.. I am trying to validate an email address. If the email is a valid looking email address, it will render the submit button disabled to prevent dupe's while the rest of the script processes. The email validation portion works, but, the part where it renders the form submit button disabled does not: <script type="text/javascript"> function validate_email(field,alerttxt) { with (field) { apos=value.indexOf("@"); dotpos=value.lastIndexOf("."); if (apos<1||dotpos-apos<2) {alert(alerttxt);return false;} else {return true; submit.disabled = true;} } } function validate_form(thisform) { with (thisform) { if (validate_email(email,"Please enter a valid email address.")==false) {email.focus();return false;} } } </script> Any guidance or help would be apreciated.
