JavaScript - Troubleshoot Javascript Opening Multiple Windows Or Tabs.
I am currently designing a website for our public library. I have added a card catalog search bar on the side of every page. Our catalog software company has supplied the code. After embedding it, I previewed each page to make sure it was working properly. At the time, it worked fine.
Since then, I have added other elements to the homepage such as a Twitter feed and a Flickr slideshow. Now, when I attempt to search in the catalog search bar on the homepage, it opens two tabs, but only in Firefox. Our IT person from the software company suggested I make a copy of the page and strip the code down to see what the problem is. After doing this, I have made no headway. Even with the catalog as the only code left on the page, other than text, it still opens two tabs. The following is the code embedded on the homepage: Code: <div> <script type='text/javascript'> function gotoserver() { sn = document.getElementById('server').value; redirecturl = 'http://webopac.infovisionsoftware.com/stephenville/default.aspx?Title='+sn; window.open(redirecturl) //document.location.href=redirecturl; } </script> <input type='text' name='server' id='server' /> <input type='submit' id='mySearch' value='Go' onclick='javascript:gotoserver();' /> </div> I would appreciate any advice given. Thank you for your time. Similar TutorialsDear friends, I am using a Javascript which perfectly worked in all relevant browsers, including IE6 and IE7. Its advantage has been to be able to specify the window-size + to decide, whether there should be scrollbars or the option to resize it. It is also fully standards-compliant. It opens a new popup window and is triggered via the rel="popup" or rel="popup nofollow" attributes in the specified external links, e.g.: Code: <a href="http://www.codingforums.com/" rel="popup">CodingForums</a> <a href="http://www.codingforums.com/" rel="popup nofollow">CodingForums</a> The code however does not do its job in IE8. It follows the link, but does so in the old window, not a new popup window, and thus recurs to standard behavior of links. Here is the Javascript-Code, included in the header: Code: var properties = { width: 900, height: 450, scrollbars: 'yes', resizable: 'yes' }; function popup(){ var link = this.getAttribute( 'href' ); var prop_str = ''; for( prop in properties ){ prop_str = prop_str + prop + '=' + properties[prop] + ','; } prop_str = prop_str.substr( 0, prop_str.length - 1 ); var newWindow = window.open( link, '_blank', prop_str ); if( newWindow ){ if( newWindow.focus ) newWindow.focus(); return false; } return true; } function setupPopups(){ var links = document.getElementsByTagName( 'a' ); for( var i=0; i<links.length; i++ ){ if( links[i].getAttribute( 'rel' ) && (links[i].getAttribute( 'rel' ) == 'popup' || links[i].getAttribute( 'rel' ) == 'popup nofollow')) links[i].onclick = popup; } } window.onload = function(){ setupPopups(); } Since I am not an expert, I would greatly appreciate help to make this efficent code workable in IE8. Thanks in advance! CodeMat Hello! I am trying to find a script that allows you to open multiple browser tabs and then close each of those tabs, either one by one or all at once. Does anyone know how to do this please? Thanks so much for your help. You can see the website here with all the code to make it easier for you to diagnose what is happening: Code: http://www.fdfdaa.com/desktop/desktop.html When you go to the start menu and select anything on the left side, you will see that windows open 100% of the screen by default. I did that by adding maximized:true but that doesn't appear to be working for the icons on the desktop itself. If you click on one of those 4 icons on the desktop though, it isn't opening at 100% for some reason. You can see my classes file here as well: Code: http://www.fdfdaa.com/desktop/classes.js Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time! Doing a bit of window-opening: the idea is, when a link is clicked, it selects a random one from an array of urls, and then opens it with certain toolbars missing. Got a script for each part, but not sure how to combine them: ' location ' seems to be talking about different things in each script. the random script: Code: var single = new Array ("a.htm","b.htm","z.htm") function choose(){ window. location =choose[Math.floor(Math.random()*single.length)] } the opener script: Code: function open() { window.open('myurl',' location =no,toolbar=1, directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,resizable=yes, scrollbars=yes') } Any suggestions? (No comments plz about removing toolbars: still experimenting, and the viewer won't be left stranded). Hello. I am opening a new small window through javascript. Here is the code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function openwindow(id) { var left = (screen.width/2)-350; var top = (screen.height/2)-240; var mywindow = window.open(" map.asp ?location="+id,"mywindow","menubar=0,resizable=0,width=700,height=400,left="+left+",top="+top+"");} </script> But on the same page I have another link for a new window which is essentially the same code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function openwindow(id) { var left = (screen.width/2)-350; var top = (screen.height/2)-240; var mywindow = window.open(" pofull.asp ?poid="+id,"mywindow","menubar=0,resizable=0,width=700,height=400,left="+left+",top="+top+"");} </script> As you can see in the red text, one link should open map.asp and the other should open pofull.asp... but they BOTH open in pofull. So I have tried to change the function name for one of them but then it doesnt work at all. I am quite confused here. I have tried everything to separate the two scripts but nothing has worked. Can someone help? Hello! Looking for some help/advice please. Imagine a wife has signed on to a web site in a browser tab. She does not sign off and walks away to do something else. Her husband sits at the computer and seeing her signed on, opens a new tab and tries to sign on to the same site. I am trying to write a script that will close other tabs/windows when the husband goes to the same site to sign on. So, on the sign on page (or even better, the sign off page), when the sign on button is clicked, a piece of Javascript code is run first. The javascript simply goes through all tabs on the browser, and checks to see if any such tabs has an HTML document that came from the same domain as the sign on page. If such tabs exist, then before POSTing the user name and password to the server, the Javascript code will close those tabs that contain HTML documents came from the same domain. So, I understand I need to set the window.name to a specific value. But does anyone know what the code on the sign on/sign off page to close the other tabs/windows would look like? Thanks so much for any and all help. hi experts, I need to open same url (flash streaming site) on multiple tabs (min 100 tabs) without crashing my browser or drinking all my cpu usage. Pls dont ask me why i need to open like that. The question is can it be done. Thanks Hello everyone, right now I have this in my site:
Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function open_win() { window.open("http://www.google.com/") window.open("http://www.google.com/") window.open("http://www.google.com/") window.open("http://www.google.com/") window.open("http://www.google.com/") window.open("http://www.google.com/") window.open("http://www.google.com/") window.open("http://www.google.com/") } </script> </head> <body> <form> <input type=button value="Open Windows" onclick="open_win()"> </form> </body> </html> And I was wondering if there's a way to get rid of the button, and make it so when the user opens the webpage, it automatically opens the multiple webpages. -- If that's not possible, I was also wondering if there's a way to make the button "click" on a mouseover, so when they move their mouse across the button, it opens the pages. I would rather have the 1st option, if possible. Thanks. Hi, I have long polling functionality working with Google Desktop Notifications. http://blog.perplexedlabs.com/2009/0...-long-polling/ However if I have multiple tabs open then the Notification received from the server is duplicated on every tab. Is there way to prevent this from happening as it should only appear once? Thanks Hello! I'm trying to make a website that from one link, opens multiple windows. It is for a design project (I'm still at uni). So far I have mustered just the one window. Here is the website: http://popmeup.org/ The idea is that you get bombarded with lots of nice quotes. I don't know my arse from my Javascript - but has anyone got any advice? I am having trouble running multiple windows.onload functions and having trouble how to implement them. I found a couple articles on but couldn't really get them to work. Here are the two functions I'm trying to load: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ window.onload=function(){ //randomize order of contents with DIV class="group1" randomizeContent("group1") randomizeContent("group2") randomizeContent("group3") } //]]> </script> Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function showHideMore(obj) { var contObj = obj.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[0]; var status = (contObj.style.display == 'block')? 'none' : 'block' contObj.style.display = status; <!-- obj.innerHTML = (status == 'block')? 'Show less' : 'Show more'; --> obj.curPic = (obj.curPic == 0)? 1 : 0; obj.style.backgroundImage = 'url("'+plusMinusPics[obj.curPic]+'")'; } window.onload=function(){ plusMinusPics = ['plus.png','minus.png']; oMoreLessSpans = document.getElementById('list1').getElementsByTagName('span'); for(i=0; i < oMoreLessSpans.length; i++){ oMoreLessSpans[i].curPic = 0; oMoreLessSpans[i].style.background = 'url("'+plusMinusPics[oMoreLessSpans[i].curPic]+'") no-repeat 0 50%'; oMoreLessSpans[i].onclick=function(){showHideMore(this);} } } </script> Hi I am trying to create a page that has a couple of pop-up overlay boxes from a couple of links, Everything is working ok I think except for a problem on a browser resize. The original code I found : ( http://kalyanchakravarthy.net/?p=208 ) was created or only one window so the resize code controls both windows, when I think need each one controlled separately. The resize code will make a closed overlay box appear. Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated. I am. lol I have a column of links that use ajax to load content into the adjacent DIV, and I have used the loadobs function to load the JS and CSS files along with the external file. Now within the external file I have used javascript to create a 3 tab section; when you first load the page it is fine BUT if you navigate away from the page and then try going back and loading the same external page then the tabs stop working and all the content of the tabbed sections stack ontop of one another as though the javacript isnt working? I am completely new to javascript but I think it is fabulous and I am keen to learn the ins and outs and would be really greatful if someone who knows what they are doing could point me in the direction of where I am going wrong or maybe what part of the code could be causing the error. It is a work in progress but the page I am having the problems on can be found at http://www.hm-designs.co.uk/crossland/solo.php if you click on the top link in the left hand column called Tara - Female vocalist you will be able to see where the tabs are. Thank you in advance if anyone may be able to help me Kind Regards, Helen hie everyone plz i want to know how to make tabs using javascript.... i want to make tabs like this website http://traveline.idea-sys.net/CSP/Default.aspx?A=2&P=50 --> (M/S Darakum - Description / GalleryDeck / Plan) can anyone help me plz? I have 3 tabs with a flash video playing in each. If a user clicks on a video and then decides to move to another tab while the video is playing.... the video stops and the tab is switched. I am using the code below to achieve that. Code: onClick=player1.sendEvent('STOP'); player2.sendEvent('STOP'); player3.sendEvent('STOP'); this works fine if I have the tabs appearing in sequence with player1 embedded in the first tab, player2 in the second and player3 in the third. However, I wanted to randomize the tabs, in which case if tab 3 containing player3 appears first and is played and then the user switches to another tab the video keeps playing.... meaning the above code does not work in that instance. I am at a loss here cause i thought that the onClick event should be going through all the players and stopping them. website: http://tinyurl.com/ydalz2r (at the moment the tabs are displayed in sequence) I have an javascript coding issue with regards to a tabbed menu. The code is supposed to hide the unselected divs and show the selected div, but all divs are showing and no tab is selected when the page initialises. The source code is viewable he http://www.kenaani.co.uk I was following this tutorial: http://www.elated.com/articles/javascript-tabs/ Which works fine in this example: http://www.elated.com/res/File/artic...ript-tabs.html I have tried commenting out the other scripts, and the divs still show on the page, so I don't think its a conflicting issue. Am hoping that someone can spot whatever is going wrong. Hello, I need your help, I have the following code below, and its giving me an error saying: "The system cannot find the file specified". Code: <html> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function start_ccm(){ var wsh = new ActiveXObject('WScript.Shell'); wsh.exec("C:\Program Files\WorkDynamics Technologies\ccmApplications\ccmMercury.exe") } </script> </head> <body> <input id="Button1" onclick="start_ccm()" type="button" value="START" /> </body> </html> There is nothing wrong with the location, but my best guess are the spaces in the file path. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Cheers, J Hey Guys, I feel like a complete idiot posting this, but I clearly am missing something. I'm trying to open a window with the specs below but all it does is open a standard sized window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Code: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="javascript"> function open_window() { window.open ('https://domain.com/document.php','newwindow',config='height=418,width=590,toolbar=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no') } </SCRIPT> <p><a onclick="open_window()"><img src="images/image.png" width="142" height="113" /></a></p> Hi - I have an ASP.Net 4.0 solution that runs fine on a Windows 2008 server. However, I've just been given a new Windows 7 64-bit machine to use as my development machine and I'm having a problem with one of my aspx pages. This page has some javascript on it, which runs fine, but then it gets to the following code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ var theForm = document.forms['aspnetForm']; if (!theForm) { theForm = document.aspnetForm; } function __doPostBack(eventTarget, eventArgument) { if (!theForm.onsubmit || (theForm.onsubmit() != false)) { theForm.__EVENTTARGET.value = eventTarget; theForm.__EVENTARGUMENT.value = eventArgument; theForm.submit(); } } //]]> </script> This not code that I've written; it's code that's generated client-side that I see as I'm debugging my app in Visual Studio 2010 (trying to figure out what the $^#$ is going on). At any rate, once this code completes, the app does nothing. The debugger should take me to some server-side code, but it doesn't. It just sits there. The result is that the page doesn't do what it's supposed to do (no inserts to databases, no success messages, no nothing). As I said, this problem is restricted to my W7 64-bit machine; it runs fine on W2008. Other pages with javascript in the same solution work fine on my W7 machine. I found a post (http://dopostback.net/index.php/net-...anel-problems/) that discusses a similar issue within an UpdatePanel, but I'm not using UpdatePanel. My page does have hidden controls on it, but so do other pages that work just fine. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks! |
