JavaScript - Onkeyup Handler For Ie

I have the following code. This code is working fine in FF but not in IE. Now, i am adding a onKeyUp function to change the radio if the value of another field is larger than 1. But this code isn't working... Any thoughts? The only problem with this is the result can be returned before the user finishes entering the entire number. My question is how can I give a delay prior to running the rest of the js. I know how to use setTimeout() but will it get reset out every time the function is called or for example if they enter 5 characters in the form, will the script be called 5 times with a second delay from each or will it only be called once? Is there a performance degradation involved? Hope that made sense. Thanks! Hi, I currently have some buttons representing letters and a textbox. When a button is clicked, its value is copied into the text box. I have an onkeyup event which means that every time a button is clicked, a function is called which searches some arrays using the current text box value. However, the problem I am currently having is that the onkeyup event which calls the function works if I type the value in using my computer keyboard, but not when using the buttons (even though the buttons enter values into the textbox). Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can make it so that when I press a button, the onkeyup event triggers and the function is called? What would make a block of code that runs an "onkeydown" work perfectly fine, but when changed to "onkeyup" it fails. I could post code, but I dont even think it would matter? onkeypress also fails.
Hi there, I have an ajax search function. I have an input text field where I type in what I want to search for, but I would like the search to be delayed of a few miliseconds before the ajax search is called. How could I do that? The search field: Code: <input type="text" onkeyup="searchPlayer(this.value)"> The javascript function: Code: function searchPlayer(str) { here is my ajax search... } I tried different ways but I don't seem to be able to delay the searchPlayer function. Any help on that? Should I use setTimeout on the input field, or in my function or in another function? And how do I pass the 'this.value' to my searchPlayer function if using setTimeout? I am lost... Thanks in advance! I have client side scripting for a text box value which truncates value if user enters more than 255 characters. For this i use both onchange and onkeyUp events. I added Server side validation too(more cautious) to restrict user from continuing the page if he enters more than 255 chars. We are using this product from 7 yeras and yesterday one of the customer said that(he has a screenshot too) he saw the server side error message. this explains that my client side javascript methods doesnot fire. he is using IE browser. Any idea why this could happen?

The function is called from the textfield with an onkeyup="function()". The problem I am having is that it works in IE just fine, but in Firefox it doesn't seem to be doing anything. When they press a key the onkeyup event will simulate a function. All that I can do. The function needs to automatically scroll down the page to the anchor that corresponds to the number the user entered. The web page is a factor finding program. You can enter 2 numbers and it finds all the factors of all the numbers between the 2 you entered. I have simplified the problem - see image. I instantiate object obj1 which inturn instantiates subObj1. subObj1 is a slave to obj1. obj1 registers a handler function called method1 with subObj1 so that subObj1 can tell obj1 when it has finished. For example: call subObj1.subMethod2() to get the sub object to do something. subObj1 calls subMethod1 when its finished with its task, which inturn causes method1 to be called. If I call method1 directly from obj1 'this' refers to obj1. However when method1 gets called by the subObj1 through the event handler mechanism, I find that 'this' has been changed to refer to subObj1. This is a problem as now method1 has lost all connection with its object obj1. If I define method1 within the 'Class1' function, I can get it to work if I use the 'var me = this;' trick, but if you have lots of methods within Class1() with further nesting this can get a bit hard to read. So, can someone tell me how to deal with 'this' changing. I.e. I want 'this' to refer to obj1 within method1. Can anyone recomend a good resourse that sets out the best way to design with javascript so I dont keep running into these issues.
