JavaScript - If Url Contains String, Then Change Css
I'm trying to determine whether a word exists in the URL and if so, change the CSS of a div.
I know how to do each task individually, but combining the two is giving me trouble. So far I have: Code: function checkSent(divname) { if(document.URL.indexOf("sent") >= 0) *document.getElementById(success).style.display = 'block'; } var sentornot = checkSent(); // If the URL contains the word, sent, then change the display of the element "success" to block I can successfully determine whether the string exists in the URL by adding an alert, but the Javascript to change the CSS doesn't work. The CSS for the div element "success" is as follows: Code: #success { display: none; } Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Edit: If needed, this is the code I used to test whether the "check URL" portion works: Code: function checkSent(divname) { if(document.URL.indexOf("sent") >= 0) { alert("found"); document.getElementById("success").style.display = 'block'; //this line doesn't work :( } else{ alert("not found"); } } Similar TutorialsI need to change one letter in a text string, but near as I can figure out, I can't just do this: Code: TextString[8] = "X"; Is that possible, or do I have to break the string and rebuild it into a second string? I have a problem thats above my head, im new to javascript. I want to be able to control the first three characters of an input string on a login form. If a user types GP15555 or JP15555 I want it to change to GPL5555 or JPL5555 respectively changing the "1" to an "L" on the prefix is this at all possible? any point in the right direction would be great. heres my code Code: </script> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ function Login(form) { var password = form.password.value; var pin = form.pin.value; var product = form.product.value; if (password) { var htsite = product + "/" + password + "/" + pin + "/index.html"; window.location = htsite; } else { alert("Please enter your password and pin."); } } // End --> //]]> </script> /thanks gp Hey all, I have a simple example below showing how when I pass in the value of the value attribute of option node, and then use if operator to check whether parameter is a string or not, even though it's a string, it converts it to false boolean and triggers the else statement rather than calling a function: Code: <body> <select> <option value="createMsg">Add Message</option> <option value="removeMsg">Remove Message</option> </select> </body> Code: var menu = { handleMenu : function(callback){ if(callback === "string"){ menu[callback](); } else { console.log("Issue occurred") } }, createMsg : function(){ var content = document.createTextNode("Please give additional information."), heading = document.createElement("h1"); heading.appendChild(content); document.body.appendChild(heading); }, removeMsg : function(){ } } document.getElementsByTagName('select')[0].onchange = function(){ menu.handleMenu(this.value)}; callback should be a string so why is it saying otherwise? Thanks for response http://www.***.com/5.html i cant get a caption specific to each image to display under the arrows when the image changes. it is especially hard for me because i have to edit the javascript which confuses the **** out of me. it seemed so simple.... thanks for any help ps i cant start an id with a digit? it doesnt seem to cause any problems...why is it stated that this cannot or shouldnot be done? Hello, Current Live View: https://tornhq.com/AroundTheWorld/Lo...WorkingOn.html This content is going to be implemented into a form I am currently working on once completed. As you can see, not all of the countries have yet been broken down as some we're having difficulties doing so. Code: SList.getSelect = function (slist, option) { document.getElementById('scontent').innerHTML = ''; // empty option-content if (SList[slist][option]) { // if option from the last Select, add text-content, else, set dropdown list if (slist == 'scontent') document.getElementById('scontent').innerHTML = SList[slist][option]; else { var addata = '<option>- - -</option>'; for (var i = 0; i < SList[slist][option].length; i++) { addata += '<option value="' + SList[slist][option][i] + '">' + SList[slist][option][i] + '</option>'; } // cases for each dropdown list switch (slist) { case 'slist2': document.getElementById('slist2').innerHTML = txtsl2 + ' <select name="slist2" onchange="SList.getSelect(\'slist3\', this.value);">' + addata + '</select>'; document.getElementById('slist3').innerHTML = ''; break; case 'slist3': document.getElementById('slist3').innerHTML = txtsl3 + ' <select name="slist3" onchange="SList.getSelect(\'scontent\', this.value);">' + addata + '</select>'; break; } } } else { // empty the tags for select lists if (slist == 'slist2') { document.getElementById('slist2').innerHTML = ''; document.getElementById('slist3').innerHTML = ''; } else if (slist == 'slist3') { document.getElementById('slist3').innerHTML = ''; } } } I need to know how to edit the following, if there is a simple way to set the case for each one as they are not all split up into the same way, some are Districts, some states and whatnot so the new question varies. Or do I simply need to make another big list to do them all? Best Regards, Tim Reply With Quote 03-21-2013, 06:35 AM #2 Old Pedant View Profile View Forum Posts Supreme Master coder! Join Date Feb 2009 Posts 28,311 Thanks 82 Thanked 4,754 Times in 4,716 Posts Well, for starters, this is generally a really bad way to add <select>s and <option>s. Period. I would certainly toss out your entire getSelect() function and rewrite it. But I'm also not clear on what your question is. Are you asking *HOW* to implement the third level? I don't see any countries with any third level data, at this point. If that's what you are asking, one possible way: Code: SList.slist2 = { ... "United Kingdom" : { "England" : ["Staffordshire", "Derby", ... ], "Scotland" : ["Edinburgh", ... ], "Wales" : [ ... ], "Northern Ireland" : [ .... ] }, ... }; I have to ask: Why would you name that Slist.slist2 instead of Slist.countries ?? Not that it really matters, but why not make code more self documenting? I was looking at this page, and came across "%" used in strange context. It appears that the mod operator can be used in Strings?? http://download.oracle.com/javase/tu...vaOO/enum.html What does this do/ mean? Thanks!!: System.out.printf("Your weight on %s is %f%n", p, p.surfaceWeight(mass)); I need help with the following code below. It just doesn't turn out okay. Any ideas? Code: function changing() { A = document.exempel.Amount.value B = ("<%#Container.DataItem("Price_2_qty")%>") C = ("<%#Container.DataItem("Price_3_qty")%>") D = ("<%#Container.DataItem("Price_4_qty")%>") E = ("<%#Container.DataItem("Price_5_qty")%>") if (A < B) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_1")%>"} else if (A = B && (!(A >= C))) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_2")%>"} else if (A = C && (!(A >= D))) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_3")%>"} else if (A = D && (!(A >= E))) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_4")%>"} else if (A >= E) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_5")%>"} } I am trying to use some string functions with no results. It appear what I'm using them on are not strings. my_string = document.getElementById("link5").onclick; document.write(my_string.lastIndexOf("5")); This gets nothing! And document.write(document.getElementById("link5").onclick.lastIndexOf("5")); gets nothing. BUT if I make a string and put what the onclick is set to with: my_string = "function onclick(event) { reveal(\"5\", \"2\", \"1864\")"; then my_string.lastIndexOf("5") will yield 34. So why is my original my_string = not working? And how can I get it to work? This is probably easy if I knew Javascript. Can someone show me the code to get the number "800014352" part from the url???? http://testebiz/ebizbtest/ShoppingCa...2/Default.aspx Hi, I'm working on refining my search function. At the moment it works fine like this: Code: function searchLocations() { var found = false; var input = document.getElementById('autocomplete').value; for (var j = 0; j < gmarkers.length; j++) { if (gmarkers[j].myname.toLowerCase() == input.toLowerCase()) { found = true; gmarkers[j].show(); myclick(j); } } if ( ! found ) alert("No matches found. Please check your spelling or refine your search."); } but you have to get the input exactly the same as it is in the array for it to work (as it should, being that that's the way it's written). I wanted to split it so that for example Black Cat Hotel would pop if the user entered Black OR Cat OR Hotel (or any combination of the above). So I thought that this might work: Code: function searchLocations() { var found = false; var input = document.getElementById('autocomplete').value; for (var j = 0; j < gmarkers.length; j++) { var s = gmarkers[j].myname.toLowerCase().split(" "); if ( s == input.toLowerCase()) { found = true; gmarkers[j].show(); myclick(j); } } if ( ! found ) alert("No matches found. Please check your spelling or refine your search."); } but obviously not. Is there some better way to do this? Hello, I need your help. How could I write a functional if statement such that it would check against a series of various word strings seperated by commas ie. function check(y) { //y = "FOR INPUT" var string_to_check = FOR INPUT, FOR ACTION, FOR APPROVAL if (y isin string_to_check) { return 1 } } Thanks for everyones help. J Hello, I need your help. For one reason or another, I have a textarea with text in it, however, when I call it back and store it in var, it seems to strip all the spaces. [ID = "COMMENTS"] Ie. of what's in the textarea: ---------------------------------------------- Apples are red Oranges are orange Pears are green Bananas are yellow var comments = document.getElementById("comments").value returns: Apples are red Oranges are orange Pears are green Bananas are yellow How could this be re-written such that the spaces in between the text aren't ignored? Much thanks and appreciation for everyones help. Cheers J Hi guys im new here i have a project about searching string im am going to use javascript the program should look like this. But this isn't working: Code: for (var x in array_string) { var test_ary = array_string[x]; } Any help? Hi, I'm coding a program to help people at my office to update the database, and the idea is to copy the content of an excel file and generate an sql from that, but I'm having a bit of trouble splitting the info into different tables: When copying everything the empty cells are read as tabulated, so I made a for that searches for more than one tabulator in a row (or find a \n and a following tabulator character) to split the info into several strings and format the info into a sql table, but I'm stuck he Code: var X=document.getElementById('opc'); var z=X.value.length; for(i=0;i<z;i++){ if(X.charAt(i)==' '&& X.chaAt(i+1)==' '){ char=X.value.substring(0,i-1); break; } } I tried with X.value(i) but I get the same error 'X.charAt is not a function', can someone tell me what am I doing wrong? Thanks. |
