JavaScript - Js Doesn't Check For Blank Field Value, Can You Fix It For Me?
My Javascript doesn't display an error when the "bid" field is blank but I want it to. Can someone help me fix it? Everything else works okay but I'm not a Javascript programmer so I don't know where to begin.
Code: function checkBid(fieldName, minValue, maxValue){ var numberfield = fieldName; if (chkNumeric(fieldName, minValue, maxValue) == false){ numberfield.select(); numberfield.focus(); return false; } else{ return true; } } function chkNumeric(fieldName, minValue, maxValue){ var checkOK = "0123456789"; var checkStr = fieldName; var allValid = true; var decPoints = 0; var allNum = ""; for (i = 0; i < checkStr.value.length; i++){ ch = checkStr.value.charAt(i); for (j = 0; j < checkOK.length; j++) if (ch == checkOK.charAt(j)) break; if (j == checkOK.length){ allValid = false; break; } if (ch != ",") allNum += ch; } if (!allValid){ alertsay = "The bid field contains one or more invalid characters:\nPlease use only numeric digits in this field ...\n " alert(alertsay); return (false); } var chkVal = allNum; var prsVal = parseInt(allNum); if (chkVal != "" && !(prsVal >= minValue && prsVal <= maxValue)){ alertsay = "Your bid value is outside the acceptable bidding range:\nPlease enter a value from "+minValue+" to "+maxValue+" ...\n " alert(alertsay); return (false); } } Similar TutorialsHello, I have a three field contact form on an HTML5 page. Using CSS3/HTML5 techniques, the fields change state as the info is entered properly (green OK symbol if good, red "!" if not, etc). That all works as expected in all browsers. My final hurdle is preventing the form being submitted with nothing entered in the fields. I have done hours of research and have tried several ways of writing the checkFeedbackForm function. My problem is that none of the solutions I've found are recognized by FireFox (mac and pc) and IE. They just ignore the javascript and allow the empty form to be emailed. Here is the code that is checking the fields: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function checkFeedbackForm(form){ if(form.fullname.value=='') { alert('Please enter your Name'); form.fullname.focus(); return false; } if(form.email.value=='') { alert('Please enter a valid Email address'); form.email.focus(); return false; } if(form.message.value=='') { alert('Please tell me a little bit about your ideas.'); form.message.focus(); return false; } return true; } </script> Here is my form: Code: <form id="signup" action="mailinfo.php" method="post" onSubmit="return checkFeedbackForm(this);" > <input type="hidden" name="returnURL" value="thankyou.html" /> <fieldset><ol> <li><label for="fullname">Name</label> <input type="text" id="fullname" name="fullname" placeholder="Your name" required /></li> <li><label for="email">Email</label> <input type="email" id="email" name="email" placeholder="Your email" title="Please enter a valid email" required /></li> <li><label for="message">Message</label> <textarea id="message" name="message" cols="32" rows="8" placeholder="Your message" required /></textarea></li></ol> </fieldset> <input type="submit" value="Send It" /> <div class="privacy">Your information is for our project only and will not be shared or sold. Promise.</div> </form> Through experimentation, I have found that removing the ID from the form allows the javascript to function in all browsers, but that kills my form styling. I think it will be easier to fix the javascript than redo my CSS. This may be obvious, but I'm not a programmer. I'm a designer who muddles through on small scale stuff like this. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Hello, i wrote this code to open a page if doesn't exist a cookie but it doesn't open the page do you know where I wrong? Thank you ! What is the best way to carry out this check effectively without throwing an error if the field does not exist? Thanks in advance. Hi to all, I need some help checking a date field with javascript, I need to veryfy that the date introduced is not previous from today so when the submit button is clicked an alert comes up: "Date can't be previous from today" the date is compared with a PHP variable with de date from server "$todays_date" in 31/12/2011 format. Code: if (frm.date.value [is previous from] $todays_date) { alert('Date can't be previous from today') frm.date.focus() return false } Any help?? Thanks Hello all. I need to use javascript to validate 6 text inputs to make sure data is entered and they are not empty. However, there is a checkbox above this and if the checkbox is checked I need these areas to NOT validate as they become optional at that point. Here is what I have: Code: function validateCheckbox() { if(document.forms["form1"].sales.checked) { if(document.forms["form1"].input1.value.length < 1) { // x return false; } else { return true; } } } The above is if the box is checked to validate the field. I want it to do the opposite. How would you do the above with the If statement referring if the check box is NOT checked? And how could I add more fields to check then just one? I am new to javascript so any help or guidance is appreciated. What I'm trying to do is check if a field (number) is blank or not. If it is filled perform validation on the remaining fields. If not filled let the user submit. The JavaScript is currently being testing in SharePoint 2007. Below is a sample of my initial code. In firebug "techIdValue" is currently returned as not defined. If some can help me identify why this is the case I would greatly appreciate it. If it matters I have included and referenced jquery prior to the code sample below. Code: //run validation only if the Tech ID is filled var techId = 'input[name*ff34_1]:number'; var techIdValue = $("#techId").val(); alert(techIdValue); alert('1'); if(isNaN(techIdValue) == false) { function PreSaveAction() // this hooks into the PreSaveAction function which is called in the clicking of the "Ok" button. { var overall = 'input[name*=ff1_1]:text'; var overallValue = $("#overall").val(); //Check if Overall is Not Started and Schedule or Budget or Resources are Complete if(getTargetMatch('Overall', 'select', new Array('Not Started'))== true) { hiiii, im new to javascripts . Can anyone help me to know that a javascript which is validating a phone number accepts only digits but if the text field is left empty it should accept the entry as an empty entry.... plz share knowledge u will be more knowledgeable Hi folks. Looking to see if anyone could tell me where I'm going wrong with this script... I'm trying to have a field automatically filled with the day of the week ("Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday" and so on), upon the user selecting a date from the datepicker jQuery. If this isn't clear, I'll clarify further down the page. Here is the script: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function($){ $('input[name="item_meta[428]"]').change(function(){ var d = $('input[name="item_meta[428]"]').val(); var n = new Date(d).getDay(); if(n == 0) val v = 'Sunday'; else if(n == 1) val v = 'Monday'; else if(n == 2) val v = 'Tuesday'; else if(n == 3) val v = 'Wednesday'; else if(n == 4) val v = 'Thursday'; else if(n == 5) val v = 'Friday'; else if(n == 6) val v = 'Saturday'; $('input[name="item_meta[429]"]').val(v).change(); }); }); </script> I'm basically trying to say, if the user selected today (15/05/2012) in the field 428 it would fill the field 429 with "Tuesday". Again, if the user selected 18/05/2012 in the field 428 then it would automatically fill field 429 with "Friday". It's being done to work in conjunction with a wordpress plugin called Formidable Pro hence the item_meta[428] etc. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Sam. I have a text field, call it income, that when the input is > 0 I need to dynamically show the next text box, and if it is blank hide the next text box. Help On this webpage http://www.corkdiscos.com/testimonials.html i have a like button. when a user clicks like a comment box appears. when i unlike the button the comment box disappears this is ok but when a user has already liked the facebook page and comes to my webpage the comment box does not show. so im looking for a piece of javascript to check if a user has like the button on my page and if so to show the comment box. please check my source code of the website http://www.corkdiscos.com/testimonials.html to see what i have so far. any help would be greatly appreciated Hi guys. I'm working a bunch of pre existing code on a CMS. Just after a quick fix. Doing a show/hide thing on a particular div somewhere on the page depending if a checkbox is ticked or not. Currently there is 3 checkboxes that are dynamically added through the CMS. Here's simplified version of the form: Code: <form id="simplesearch" name="simplesearch"> <input type="checkbox" onclick='showhidefield(this.value)' name="meta_data_array_search_criteria[custom_profile_type][]" value="5" class="input-checkboxes" /> <input type="checkbox" onclick='showhidefield(this.value)' name="meta_data_array_search_criteria[custom_profile_type][]" value="4" class="input-checkboxes" /> </form> And here's the javascript I was playing with. Code: function showhidefield(id) { if(document.simplesearch.meta_data_array_search_criteria[custom_profile_type][''].checked) { document.getElementById("profile_fields_wrapper_" + id).style.visibility = "visible"; } else { document.getElementById("profile_fields_wrapper_" + id).style.visibility = "hidden"; } } Problem I'm having is how do i do a check to see if those checkboxes are checked in the javascript with those name arrays? How do i separate them? 'm guessing I have to loop through them or something?Hopefully that make senses - it's late here and I'm losing the plot Any pointers would be gratefully welcomed Hi Experts, I have designed an online registration system for a non profit in ASP/SQL. After the members register for classes they are automatically redirected to an invoice page with class fees. At the bottom of the page I have a Total Fees field of all the classes. The member is supposed to pay this amount to our organization. Question: We decided to do an online payment this year and would like to calculate a 2% additional amount on the Total Fees. This amount is paid to the Payment Merchant site. We cannot afford to lose the 2% since we are a non profit. Would really appreciate if someone can tell me how to 1) Add a new field under the Total field 2) And calculate the 2% additional fees and do a Grand Total. Thanks in advance. I have two drop down fields. When I select any value in the first drop down i want the second dropdown to automatically populate the value related to the first one. For e.g i have the first field as name and the second field as measured in. If I select 'Potato' in the first dropdown then the second drop down should populate 'kg'. Please help.
Hi all, Thanks for reading. I'm having an issue trying to accomplish the following - I have a text field (field1) already displayed on the HTML page. However, there's a link where you can add additional text fields to the page as well. When the link is clicked, the second text field is added successfully (field2), and when the link is clicked again, the third text field (field3) is added successfully. However, the third field does not add itself to the page, and the text for anything greater than a third field also isn't displayed after. This obviously means that my "fields" variable is not working right, so I'm wondering, would anyone be able to assist me to help me get that variable processing correctly? Code: <script language="javascript"> fields = 1; function addMore() { if (fields = 1) { document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "<input type='text' name='field2' size='25' /> <span>Field 2.</span>"; fields = 2; } else if (fields = 2) { document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "<input type='text' name='field3' size='25' /> <span>Field 3.</span>"; fields = 3; } else { document.getElementById('addedMore').innerHTML = "Only 3 fields are allowed."; document.form.add.disabled=true; } } </script> Here is the code in my HTML - Code: <input type="text" name="field1" size="25" /> <span>Field 1.</span> <div id="addedMore"></div> <p class="addMore"><form name="add"><a onclick="addMore()">Add another field.</a></form></p> Thank you very much. Hi All, My boss asked me to create an Adobe form and I'm unsure how to code it to accomplish what he is asking. I'm working with an Adobe form that has required fields. FieldA is not required but if FieldA is filled in, FieldB would then become required. What would be the ideal way to code this? Thank you A PHP/JS application that runs fine on the live server misbehaves on localhost. All the prefilled fields are showing empty. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Will update the thread with the code soon. Please let me know if there is a configuration error or general JS error. I want to make my input element reset its value attribute to blank, which is originally set to "your e-mail". You know the effect you see on forms that have text in them, then with the onclick attribute, you can clear the text in the box. So, after looking around trying to find out what to do, here's what I've attempted. HTML Code: <form id="emailbox" name="form1" method="post" action=""> <div> <input type="text" name="go" id="go" value="your e-mail" onclick="removeText()"/> <input type="submit" value="Join" /> </div> </form> JS: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function removeText(){ var form = document.getElementById['emailbox']; var name = form.elements['go'].value; } </script> What do I do next to complete my objective? |
