JavaScript - Javascript Not Displaying In Local Files
Howdy all.
I have Win 7, IE9. I have a HTML file on my hard drive, with Javascript within. When I load the page, it keeps popping up Do u want to allow this content, I have to click to allow. I want to stop this, and after doing some searching I found the setting in Internet Options, Advanced - "Allow active content to run in files on my computer". Perfect. Doesnt work. When i check this box, the page loads without the warning, but then the Javascript just doesnt work. Getting quite annoying, because this file is my home page. Any help would be great! Similar TutorialsHello, Wondering if any users could point me in the right direction on this one. Newbie question, how do I call up a local Var within a function? As you can see I have both a global and a local. but the doc.write will only show the global var. Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> var p=0; function test(){ p=p+5; window.alert(p); } </script> </head> <body> <h1>test: <script type="text/javascript"> document.write(p); </script> </h1> <br> <input type="Button" value="Add" onclick="test()" /> </body> </html> Thanks in advance if anyone can help. I have an html file I've built with embedded Javascript (using ActiveX) that successfully reads a file on my local hard drive when I run the html file through my web browser (IE) locally. However, when I copy the html page up to a webserver and access it through the internet, it doesn't appear to be reading the local file. I'm assuming this can't be done because of security reasons? Am I correct in that? Is there any way using Javascript/ActiveX that you can get a webpage on the internet to access a file on the visitor's local drive? (other than cookies)
I hope I have this post in the right place! Any help would be very much appreciated... I have a feature on my website that allows users to choose the website background (using alternate css sheets) and then uses an externally linked javascript file to store the background choice as a cookie so it is consistent throughout the website. This works perfectly locally (i.e. when previewing my website on my computer) but now it is uploaded to my host it doesn't appear to be working. (with the same browser) My javascript is he http://www. b r p - e n v .com/javascript/backgroundchange.js (with no spaces) The website that the javascript file is linked to is http://www. b r p - e n v .com (with no spaces) In the head I have: <script type="text/javascript" src="../javascript/backgroundchange.js"></script> ...then I have: <body onload="set_style_from_cookie()"> ...and for users to choose which background: <form> <input type="image" src="../images/white-background-thumb.jpg" onclick="switch_style('bg1');return false;" name="theme" value="White" id="bg1"> etc... </form> My problem is: The background reverts back to the default when moving to a different page. This would indicate that the background choice is not being saved in cookies. But this works locally! I have tried putting the javascript directly onto each page but I still had the same problem. I hope someone can help, I will be so grateful if I can get this to work. Many thanks indeed! Hi, I have created a site and on one page it uses 2 divs side by side to display text information. in the left hand div it contains 8 links. these links when clicked load up text stored in separate text files and display it in the right hand div. The code below was working when i ran it from my mac but when i try to load it off the webhost it fails to execute. Code: $(document).ready(function() { $("#mc").click(function() { $("#innertext").load('mc.txt'); }); $("#sd").click(function() { $("#innertext").load('sd.txt'); }); $("#ma").click(function() { $("#innertext").load('ma.txt'); }); $("#rtm").click(function() { $("#innertext").load('rtm.txt'); }); $("#cm").click(function() { $("#innertext").load('cm.txt'); }); $("#r").click(function() { $("#innertext").html('r.txt'); }); $("#bp").click(function() { $("#innertext").load('bp.txt'); }); $("#pc").click(function() { $("#innertext").load('pc.txt'); }); }); Code: <div class="wrapper p2"> <ul class="list1 col-1"> <li>> <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="function("mc");" id="mc">Consultancy</a></li> <li>> <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="function("sd"); id="sd">Strategy</a></li> <li>> <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="function("ma"); id="ma">Market Assessment</a></li> <li>> <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="function("rtm"); id="rtm">Routes to Market</a></li> </ul> <ul class="list1 col-2"> <li>> <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="function("cm"); id="cm">Change management</a></li> <li>> <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="function("r"); id="r">Restructuring</a></li> <li>> <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="function("bp"); id="bp">Planning</a></li> <li>> <a href="javascript:void(0);" onclick="function("pc"); id="pc">Project management</a></li> </ul> </div> here is a link to the page on the webhost-- http://herkes.host56.com/index-2.html Any ideas to why this does not work? any help is appreciated My site loads too many javascript files and it takes much time to load page. I would like to reduce the number of http requests and combine all javascript files into one file. What is the best way for it? Will it work if I just copy whole code from all files and paste into one or anything else is needed? Thanks So, I have a dynamic PHP file on my server. I want to make it so browsers can take the code I provide and paste it in an .html, .php, or .asp file, and it'll display across the board. The file would need to be included, unless someone thinks there's a better way of doing this? The only example I could think of would be Google Adsense's code? But I'm not sure. I have an external Javascript file that only works when I put: Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="external.js"></script> at the end of the HTML page. Does anyone know why it won't work in the head of the page? Thanks I am doing a program to teach pre-schoolers on how to use the keyboard. If there any possible if I press the arrow up key, It will then show a excellent swf, that I have make. if wrong if will come out try again swf using javascript. please help me. im stuck. hi all, i'm a relatively new user to javascript. i'm supposed to use javascript to search through a folder that contains many excel files. the search term is obtained from a front end html form, javascript gets that value, search every single excel file in the folder and see which file has a cell that matches the search terms. I currently know (sort of) how to search through 1 file. but how do I search through many files? and from what i see from the searching of 1 file, it takes a few seconds to open and close the excel file (located on a network drive). which means it will take a fair bit of time to cycle through 97 excel files. Is there like any searching algorithm to speed up the process? Hi all- I currently use a javascript seacrh string on my website that searchs all folders (directories) and gives results on a html page. My problem is that some folders (or sub directories) are not being found when I type into the form search box. Does anyone know why this might be happening? here is the script im using <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">function OnSearchSubmit(){var b_return=true;if (document.form_search.sw){for(var i=0;i<document.form_search.sw.value.length;i++){if (document.form_search.sw.value.charAt(i)!=" ") {lh="searchresult.html?sw="+encodeURIComponent(document.form_search.sw.value);b_return=false;break;} }}if (b_return) return;window.open(lh,"_self");}</script> thanks! I want to use HTML5's audio coding similar to the one below: Code: var audioElement = document.createElement('audio'); audioElement.setAttribute('src', 'horse.ogg'); audioElement.play(); In order to play sound files depending on the input. What I'm working on is a text-to-speech webapplication. What I'd need to happen is for there to be an input and then allow the user to type anything into the input, so if they type in: Hello, how are you doing? Javascript or PHP will recognize each character and translate it into an audio sequence. In example: It'd detect the "H" in hello and play sound file "H.ogg" It'd then detect the "E" in hello and play sound file "E.ogg" I know there must be an easy way to do this. Could somebody help me please to explain what I'm doing wrong.... a have this html file with references to some javascripts (datagrid from http://www.datatables.net) and this html file work ok..I mean javascripts a css styling works with table... but when I call this page by ajax and callback (this html page) is forward back into another div , table doesn't work ....just data from page but now functionality from javascript and css styling... how should I force callback result to use javascript and css? I have made a test XML document for the time being so that I can get the JavaScript/AJAX working properly, then I will figure out why my PHP isnt generating the XML file properly. Here is my XML document: Code: <?xml version="1.0" ?> <root> <message id="0"> <sender>martynball</sender> <receiver>someoneelse</receiver> <time>154375342</time> <text>Testing an XML document and seeing if the JavaScript will display it properly. If so then there is a problem with the PHP.</text> </message> </root> And here is my JavaScript/AJAX, for some reason there is NOTHING being displayed in the div which has the correct ID. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function getXmlHttpRequestObject() { if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { // code for IE7+, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari return new XMLHttpRequest(); } if (window.ActiveXObject) { // code for IE6, IE5 return new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } return null; } //Make variables for later use var lastMess = 0; var sendReq = getXmlHttpRequestObject(); var receiveReq = getXmlHttpRequestObject(); var mTimer; function getMessage() { if (receiveReq.readyState == 4 || receiveReq.readyState == 0) { //var url = "scripts/get_data.php?uid=<?=$_SESSION['uid']?>&m=" + lastMess + "&chat=1"; var url = "testXMLdoc.xml"; receiveReq.open("GET", url, true); receiveReq.onreadystatechange = manageMessage; receiveReq.send(null); lastMess++; } } function manageMessage() { if (receiveReq.readyState == 4) { var xmldoc = receiveReq.responseText; var chat_div = document.getElementById('chat'); var msg_nodes = xmldoc.getElementByTagName("message"); var n_msg = message_nodes.length; for (i = 0; i < n_msg; i++) { var sender_node = msg_node[i].getElementByTagName["sender"]; var receiver_node = msg_node[i].getElementByTagName["receiver"]; var time_node = msg_node[i].getElementByTagName["time"]; var text_node = msg_node[i].getElementByTagName["text"]; chat_div.innerHTML = "He <br />" + sender_node[0].firstChild.nodeValue + "<br />"; chat_div.innerHTML = reciever_node[0].firstChild.nodeValue + "<br />"; chat_div.innerHTML =time_node[0].firstChild.nodeValue + "<br />"; chat_div.innerHTML = text_node[0].firstChild.nodeValue + "<br />"; } } } </script> Also, I put a alert under the manageMessage() function before the IF statement and that gets displayed. Hi guys, I already posted this but it hasn't been approved by a mod or the mods are all at lunch or something lol. I want to display an image using javascript instead of HTML (or use javascript to change the HTML code dynamically when an update is made). I have created an XML file, which contains text data which is displayed in HTML by using Javascript. What I am having trouble with is getting Javascript to grab the image URL from the XML file, and then display that image in the correct div. How does one show an image by using javascript? and how do you get javascript to get the url from the XML? The following is my Javascript code which grabs the text from the XML and displays it in the HTML; Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var xmlDoc; <!-- if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { xhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); } else // Internet Explorer 5/6 { xhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } xhttp.open("GET","SDS.xml",false); xhttp.send(""); xmlDoc=xhttp.responseXML; var x=xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("NEWS"); i=0; function display() { title=(x[i].getElementsByTagName("TITLE")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue.fontsize("5").fontcolor("white").bold()); date=(x[i].getElementsByTagName("DATE")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue.fontsize("2").fontcolor("white").bold()); stitle=(x[i].getElementsByTagName("STITLE")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue.fontsize("3").fontcolor("white").italics()); story=(x[i].getElementsByTagName("STORY")[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue.fontsize("3").fontcolor("white")); txt= title + "<br />" + date + "<br />" + stitle + "<br />" + story; document.getElementById("show").innerHTML=txt; } //--> </script> And this is the XML file; Code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <BULLETIN> <NEWS> <PIC>"newssmall.jpg"</PIC> <DATE>14/3/2010</DATE> <TITLE>News Story 1</TITLE> <STITLE>This is a short sentence to describe the story in brief</STITLE> <STORY>This is the text of the news story</STORY> </NEWS> </BULLETIN> So what I want to do is create a function that grabs the url (relative) from the PIC tag in the XML ("newssmall.jpg") and then uses this URL to display the image on the HTML page. This way, only the XML needs updating when updating the news section of the site. Thanks for helping if you can, Dan I am one problem. When i click a link a some information in html is to be displayed on the screen. I have written code for that. But before i click the link i am able to display the content. Please look into my code and give some suggestions: <html> <head> </head> <body> <center> <table> <tr> <td> <a href="javascript:Chg1()">Add Required (Features)</a> </td> <td> <a href="javascript:chg2()">Add via Search</a> </td> <td> <a href="javascript:Chg3()">Add via List</a> </td> </tr> </table> </center> function chg2() { document.write(<b> Type Model Feature Relationship Search and Add </b>);s <table> <tr> <td> Type<input type="text" id="type" name="type" value=""> </td> <td> Document Number<input type="text" id="doc" name="doc" value=""> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Model<input type="text" id="model" name="model" value=""> </td> <td> Promoted<input type="text" id="promoted" name="promoted" value=""> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Feature<input type="text" id="feature" name="feature" value=""> </td> </tr> </table> } </script> </body> I have to display a div before firing a sync ajax in javascript div is getting displayed in firefox but not in IE and chrome. I need to basically display a download bar to indicate the user that the request is in progress I have been working on a few budget scripts that I can access from the web in using HTML. My problem is that when variable values change I need to change these values in all of the HTML files on the server. I know that there is a way to declare global variables in a single file and use those values in another file but I have not been able to find any information that tells me exactly how to do this. I have tried to put it together on my own using what little informaiton I have been able to find but have not been able to get this to work. Is there a more detailed referance that I can find somewhere or does anyone know what steps I need to take to make this happen?
I'm very new at JavaScript and I'm trying to get each of the if statements below in a text text box with the result depending on the answer of the equation. However i can't figure out a way to allow the user to click a button to to show the result in a text box. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.
