JavaScript - Problem With Concatenating A Variable.
Hi guys, I have a small script that creates elements with createElement(); and assigns an id to it with a variable concatenated to the id, but when the function is ran again it seems like the previous div that was generated doesn't retain the previous id with the concatenated variable.
This is my code: Code: <script> function effect(){ $('#btn-slide' + defectsnumber).click(function() { $('#table2' + defectsnumber).animate({ height: 'toggle' }, 2000); }); } </script> <script type='text/javascript' language='JavaScript'> defectsnumber = 0; function generatedefects() { if (defectsnumber > 9) { alert('You can not enter more than 10 defect percentages!'); } else { if (defectsnumber == 0) { testdiv2 = document.createElement('div'); testdiv2.id = 'testdiv'; } defectsnumber = defectsnumber + 1; testingdiv = document.createElement('div'); testingdiv.id='btn-slide' + defectsnumber; testingdiv.innerText = 'Click Me ' + defectsnumber; divTag2 = document.createElement('div'); divTag2.id='table2' + defectsnumber; divTag2.style.cssText = 'background: white; border: 1px solid black; width: 300px; height: 300px; margin-left: 34px; margin-top: 5px; float: left; display: yes;'; divTag2.appendChild(testingdiv); testdiv2.appendChild(divTag2); document.body.appendChild(testdiv2); } effect(); } </script> Does anyone know why that is happening? Similar TutorialsOk, below is an example of what I am trying to do (it's easier to show than try to explain). Code: var abc1 = "this text "; var abc2 = "that text "; var abc3 = 483967; var xNum = 2; var myNum = "abc"+xNum; alert (myNum); // this gives the expected "abc2" concatCall(); function concatCall() { var newOne = myNum + abc3; //the output I want is "that text 483967" instead of "abc2483967" alert (newOne); } Now in the function, the variable is behaving as it should and I expected that, what I want though is what is commented. Any ideas on how that can be done? I know it has to do with the fact that once the var and string are concatenated, they become a string. What I want to know is the way to convert the string into a variable name that will produce the variable's data instead of the variable name. (for the curious, I have a <ul> that is passing the xNum var to my JS and currently have an else if statement to output the correct data - i'm looking for a way to shorten this code) Hello, I have several event handlers on my page; one of them doesn't work. I'll post them all here, indicating how they are executed: #1: Works [CODE]<script type="text/javascript"> function combName() { var fname = document.forms[0].fname.value; var lname = document.forms[0].lname.value; document.forms[0].name.value = fname + " " + lname; } </script>[CODE] NOTE: The "lname" field uses "onKeyUp" to make the script run. A hidden field named "name" is populated with the concatenation. #2: Works (this script is too long to post; it is a validation script and runs via the "onSubmit" in the form tag.) #3: Doesn't Work [CODE]<script type="text/javascript"> function combPrograms() { document.forms[0].00N70000002WNax.value = "1st Choice: " + document.forms[0].sf1.value + document.forms[0].alameda1.value + document.forms[0].sanmateo1.value + document.forms[0].marin.value + document.forms[0].cc1.value + "2nd Choice: " + document.forms[0].sf2.value + document.forms[0].alameda2.value + document.forms[0].sanmateo2.value + document.forms[0].marin2.value + document.forms[0].cc2.value; } </script>[CODE] Note: 1. Not all of the values for Choice 1 and Choice 2 are populated. 2. For that reason, one of the later, unrelated text fields in the form has "onKeyUp="combPrograms()" to run the event. 3. A hidden field named 00N70000002WNax is populated with the concatenation. Any help is much appreciated! I need help troubleshooting javascript I am using to concatenate two fields in a form and populating a hidden field with them. Here's the javascript: <script type="text/javascript"> function combName() { var fname = document.forms[0].fname.value; var lname = document.forms[0].lname.value; document.forms[0].name.value = fname + " " lname; } </script> Here are the form fields: <input id="fname" name="fname" type="text"> <input id="lname" name="lname" type="text" onKeyUp="combName()"> <input name="name" type="hidden" id="name" size="20" maxlength="80"> <input name="Submit" type="submit" id="OnSubmit" value="OnSubmit"> What am I doing wrong? Thanks. Hello everybody I have a problem with Java Script damned I want to add the values of several variables in one variable and then use this variable, which contains the values of variables You can see the following example HTML Code PHP Code: <input type="text" name="txt1" /> <br/>age <input type="text" name="txt2" /> <br/><br/> <input type="button" name="submits" value="send"/> Javascript Code PHP Code: field = document.getElementsByName('txt1')[0]; field2 = document.getElementsByName('txt2')[0]; submit = document.getElementsByName('submits')[0]; data = 'data=' + field.value + '&data2=' + field2.value + '&submits=' + submit.value; document.getElementsByName('submits')[0].onclick = function(){ alert(data); } After executing this code I find that the variables are not displayed values As in the following picture I want to know what the cause of this problem ? Hi guys, Im a bit confused about variables.. and i ran into a problem.. The problem is: I have e php file. with a php variable called lets say phpvar, like this: PHP Code: $phpvar="whatever"; Then i have a html document whit my javascript's in it.. where i need that variable like this: Code: upload_url: '"addons/uploader/upload-file.php?dir="(PHPVARHERE), Now how the hell do i do that ?? can anyone please show me ?? i did figure out how to get $phpvar into a javascript var, in the first php file, but getting it over to the javascript in a different file seems to be a bit of a problem to me.. Thanks, Steffan Hi, I am having 1 JS file 'common.js', which has 2 functions: func1(); func2(); and 2 PHP files: file1 and file2. I am calling func1() from file1 (<html><body onload="javascript:func1()"...) and initializing some global variables in func1. Then i am calling func2() from file2 and reading those variables, but those i am getting undefined. Is it because the variables were initialized in a function which was called by some file, that i am not able to access in a function called by another file, like a scope problem? I thought since both the functions are in same file, the global variables in that file are accessible to all functions in that file. Please help! Thanks! So I just began learning HTML 5, and I'm having some issues with variables not being accessed properly. PHP Code: var mouseX = 0; var mouseY = 0; function mousemove(event) { var canvas = document.getElementById('apples'), mouseX = event.pageX - canvas.offsetLeft; mouseY = event.pageY - canvas.offsetTop; } function mousedown(event) { if(judge != playerNumber && started && mouseY >= 500-800/7*1.54){ var i = Math.floor(mouseX/800*7); alert(mouseX); } } All of this is in the <head>. I define the listener he PHP Code: var canvas = document.getElementById("apples"); canvas.addEventListener('mousemove', mousemove, false); canvas.addEventListener('mousedown', mousedown, false); For some odd reason, mouseX stays at zero outside of mousemove. Inside, it updates properly. It appears to be acting as a local variable. However, mouseY acts properly in both mousemove and mousedown. It retains its value. I've been testing this in Chrome v12.0.742.100, on Windows 7. It does the exact same thing in Firefox. Those are the only parts of the code that reference mouseX, mouseY or the two event listeners. Any ideas as to how to fix this? Hello, I am trying add some animation effects to a navigation button and am having some problems with my code. I am using setInterval(); and the problem came with trying to clear it using clearInterval(); if i have this code then it seems to clear it fine: Code: var i = 21; function w(){ document.getElementById("homebtntop").style.height = i + "px"; i--; } function c(){ if(i<=6){ window.clearInterval(t); } } function r(){ t = self.setInterval("w()",15); } function slideIn(){ t = self.setInterval("w()",15); clearInterval(t); } but if i then try to call it from inside a function c(); it doesn't work: Code: var i = 21; function w(){ document.getElementById("homebtntop").style.height = i + "px"; i--; } function c(){ if(i<=6){ window.clearInterval(t); } } function r(){ t = self.setInterval("w()",15); } function slideIn(){ t = self.setInterval("w()",15); clearInterval(t); } Any ideas? i am sorry if my code makes no ssense or is badly formatted, this is my first time with javasript. Thank you. I have two versions of this document. The first version uses only JavaScript and the standard PROMPT(). It works very well, but I would like to insert the name prompt into the page using the input command. For some reason the variable loaded in the HTML statement doesn't get passed to the JavaScript. Any ideas would be appreciated! This is only a small test page. Sorry I don't know about the [code] tag... <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <meta name="generator" content="CoffeeCup HTML Editor (www.coffeecup.com)"> <meta name="created" content="Sat, 10 Sep 2011 19:40:31 GMT"> <meta name="description" content=""> <meta name="keywords" content=""> <title>Enter golfers name</title> <!--[if IE]> <script src="http://html5shim.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script> <![endif]--> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="script1.js"></SCRIPT> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> function GetPage(){ document.write("OK") var lab = ""; var result = fullname.toUpperCase(); var word=result.split(" "); fname = word[0] lname = word[1] alpha = lname.slice(0,1); lab = fname.concat("_") lab = lab.concat(lname) if(word[2]){ ext = word[2] lab = lab.concat("_") lab = lab.concat(ext) } var intro = "./Stats_"; page = intro.concat(alpha); page = page.concat("_golfers.html#"); page = page.concat(lab) document.write(page) <!-- window.location.pathname = page } </script> </head> <body> <center> <form action="form_action.asp" method="get"> You can enter the golfersname or select him from the above list.<br><br> <input type="text" name="fullname" /> <button type="submit" onclick="GetPage()">GO</button> </form> </center> <BR><BR><BR> This is the end </body> </html> Hi, I am doing a Validation for Form "Text input". If the user leaves the input empty, a function is starting to run. If the field is bigger than 1 - so it doesn't get into the function. The problem is: The first time, the user left the input empty, function ran, and I got the alert - that's OK. Second time, The user added 10 in the AGE input - And again he gets the Alert - But he should not. Note: Age input value, returns from a different function (calc) to a var called: result. this is the code: Code: $(document).ready(function(){ $('#btn_send').click(function(){ //var result gets the value from another function of input "Age" value. -> return thisform.Age.value var result = calc(document.getElementById("campaignform")); if (result<1) { $("#campaignform").submit(function(event) { event.preventDefault(); alert ("prevent default"); }); } else{ return true; }; }); }); so if you try the second time to click on Submit, then you get into $('#btn_send').click(function() and eventhough you added for example 67 in the AGE (return as result) input, you get into the IF statement which is: if (result<1) I'm pretty new to developing, so I hop you will understand me. Sorry if I have mistakes. Can you advice what could be a better TITLE for this question? thanks in advance, Shai Hi, I have a programing problem that have been around for ages. I have search on google using several expressions and words and after hours of digging i'm still unable to do it. I would like to get a value from a HTML page hosted remotely with an inconstant value. Then define this value and name as a javascript variable and apply or show in my page. Thanks for all the help P.S. Is there any way to make a domain lookup in javascript? I mean a user enters a domain and the script converts to an ip and shows to the user. If not thanks, probably it can only be done in the server side... Hi! I have a javascript in the head of the document which has a variable named "ref2" ... ref2 is already working as I can see its value working in another function. I need to send this variable as the value of a hidden field in the form which is in the body of the document. This is my JavaScript Code: Code: function WriteContactFormStatement1 () { var ContactFormValue = ref2; document.write('<input type="hidden" name="UReferrersName" value="' + ContactFormValue + '" />'); } var WriteContactFormStatement = WriteContactFormStatement1 (); And at the end of my form, before the submit button, I have the following code: Code: <!-- START -- Javascript to print the statement for UReferrersName --> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/JavaScript"> //WriteContactFormStatement(); document.write (WriteContactFormStatement); </script> <!-- End -- Javascript to print the statement for UReferrersName --> When I execute the form, it doesn't work the way it should, plus, gives me a word "undefined" next to the "Submit" button ..... Please help !... - Xeirus. Hello I have a php page in which I declared a js variable... right at the top of the page... <script type="text/javascript"> var tester = 0; </script> Later in the page I test this variable... <script type="text/javascript"> if (tester==1){ do some stuff!! } </script> But I keep getting an error variable _tester undefined Am I missing something obvious... I am new to js... but this seems really straightforward I don't know how I should do ? This might be a stupid question, but is there any memory usage difference between var variable1, variable2; and var variable1; var variable2;? I'm learning how to use faster code hence the question.
Hello I have a piece of javascrip that refreshes the page: ---------- Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- Begin function reFresh() { location.reload(true) } /* Set the number below to the amount of delay, in milliseconds, you want between page reloads: 1 minute = 60000 milliseconds. 2 minutes = 120000 milliseconds 5 minutes = 300000 milliseconds*/ window.setInterval("reFresh()",20000); // End --> </script> -------- I am new to javascript and wanted to use an html options menu in order to be able to choose the refresh interval: Code: <SELECT NAME="refreshtime"> <OPTION VALUE="60000">1 min</option> <OPTION VALUE="120000">2 min</option> <OPTION VALUE="180000">3 min</option> <OPTION VALUE="240000">4 min</option> </SELECT> I know that I have to pass a variable to the function. I have tried several variations but none have worked. I have mostly received a "done with errors" warning. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Zam If I manually write out "2/22/2012 4:00 PM" in TargetDate, I get the correct result for what I want to do (a countdown). But I want the countdown to always be the current day at 4pm. So I tried the code below thats commented, but it is not working. New to javascript, still reading the books, just hoping for some guidance on this. Code: Next Update: <script language="JavaScript"> var currentTime = new Date() var month = currentTime.getMonth() + 1 var day = currentTime.getDate() var year = currentTime.getFullYear() TargetDate = "2/22/2012 4:00 PM"; //TargetDate = "document.write(month + "/" + day + "/" + year) + 4:00PM"; BackColor = "white"; ForeColor = "red"; CountActive = true; CountStepper = -1; LeadingZero = true; DisplayFormat = "%%H%% H, %%M%% M, %%S%% S"; FinishMessage = "Forecasts posted"; </script> <script language="JavaScript" src="countdown.js"></script> Can anyone tell me of how to take or assign a javascript variable into php.
Hi, I want to write some javascript code that uses arrays, I have a list of arrays named array1, array2, array3 etc. I want to perform a function on each of these arrays. I wanted to have a variable for the number after array so this is what I have: <code> var array1 = new Array ("1","2","3","4","5"); var array2 = new Array ("5","6","7","8","9"); for (var i=1; i<=2;i++){ document.writeln(("array"+i)[1]); } </code> the problem is it gives me the letters in the string array instead of the array values. How do I get javascript to treat ("array"+i) as array1? Hello, so here's my problem. I'm trying to set a page up where I can post a list of things on one side, with a static image on the other. Each of the items on the list will be a link to the item named. The idea is that when people mouse over one of the links, the static image will change to show a picture of what the named item is. I've been tinkering around with it (I'm pretty much only doing this out of self interest, and have been using stuff like w3schools for a few weeks to self teach) and what i have so far is the following. I've a feeling I'm doing something massivly stupid or have messed up one of the commands. If anyone could take 2 minutes to have a quick look over it, i would be most grateful. Thanks in advance! Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function SwapSpecificOtherImage() { document.getElementById("SwapMe").src='cardimage'; } function SwapBackSpecificOtherImage() { document.getElementById("SwapMe").src="url of default image"; } var cardimage </script> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> <img id="SwapMe" class="thumbnail" src='cardimage' /> <a href="link to item" onmouseover="cardimage='link to image of item'">Item name</a> <a href="link to 2nd item" onmouseover="cardimage='link to image of 2nd item'">Item name</a> </body> The class thumbnail is done in the css to auto set the size of the pic. all the pics i'll be using will be portrait shaped anyways. |
