JavaScript - Writing An E4x Xml Primitive To A New Window Shows As Text/html
I'm writing a small browser-side Javascript that parses XML from a file and modifies it using E4X. I need to get the result to an xml text file without making the user go through a dozen hoops.
Since making a JS client do file I/O is nearly impossible I gave up on that. My next idea was to make Firefox open a new window of contentType text/xml, with my serialized xml in it: Code: var xmlDoc = new XML(SourceXMLString); //SourceXMLString is read from an xml text file output = window.open(""); output.document.open("text/xml"); output.document.write(xmlDoc.toXMLString()); output.document.close(); However any document.write instance seems to set the contentType to text/html and so all the tags are rendered wrong, naturally. From https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73409 it seems that document.open creates the right contentType, but document.write messes it up. Note: this is for a specific internal project, not the public internet. Therefore it only needs to work in Mozilla 3+, and also server-side is not an option. I'm totally open to other suggestions. What's the most streamlined/easiest way, for the code and the user, to get from that XML construct to an .xml file? Similar TutorialsI wish to add a help icon to variousd parts of my pages that places an overlay text box for the help that that help icon relates to. maybe a call like help(datefield) or help(somethingelse) then the script that shows the help text shows the text that relates to the string passed. can someone please provide information on how i can do this. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Strict//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Student Information</title> <meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 7.0"> <meta name="vs_targetSchema" content="http://schemas.microsoft.com/intellisense/ie5"> Code: <SCRIPT type="text/javascript"> <!-- function displayEntries () { var sfirst = document.frmStudentInfo.textSfirst.value; var smi = document.frmStudentInfo.textSmi.value; var slast = document.frmStudentInfo.textSlast.value; var sadd = document.frmStudentInfo.textSadd.value; var scity = document.frmStudentInfo.textScity.value; var sstate = document.frmStudenInfo.textSstate.value; var szip = document.frmStudentInfo.textSzip.value; var sphone = document.frmStudentInfo.textSphone.value; var sdob = document.frmStudentInfo.textSdob.value; window.alert('sfirst' + 'smi' + 'slast' + '\n' + 'sadd' + '\n' + 'scity' + 'sstate' + 'szip' + '\n' + 'sphone' + '\n' + 'sdob'); } //--> </SCRIPT> </head> <body> <table width="70%" align=center ID="Table1"> <tr><td><img SRC = "nwlogo.jpg" width=120 height=60></td> <td><H3>Student Information</H3></td></tr> </table> <form name="frmStudentInfo" action="ignore"> <table align="center"> <tr><td> Last Name:</td> <td><input type="text" name="txtSlast" size="20"></td> <td> </td> <td></td> </tr> <tr><td> First Name:</td> <td><input type="text" name="txtSfirst" size="20" ></td> <td> </td> <td></td> <tr><td> MI:</td> <td><input type="text" name="txtSmi" size="5" tabindex="3"><td> <td> </td> </tr> <tr><td> Address:</td> <td><input type="text" name="txtSadd" size="20" tabindex="4"></td> <td> </td> <td></td> </tr> <tr><td> City:</td> <td><input type="text" name="SCity" size="20" tabindex="5"></td> <td> </td> <td></td> </tr> <tr><td> State:</td> <td><input type="text" name="txtSstate" size="5" tabindex="6"></td> <td> </td> Code: <td><input type="button" name="cmdUpdate" value="Update" onClick="displayEntries();"></td> </tr> <tr><td> ZIP Code:</td> <td><input type="text" name="txtSzip" size="20" tabindex="7"></td> <td> </td> <td></td> </tr> <tr><td> Phone:</td> <td><input type="text" name="txtSPhone" size="20" tabindex="8"></td> <td> </td> <td></td> </td> </tr> <tr><td> Date of Birth:</td> <td><input type="text" name="txtSdob" size="20" tabindex="9"></td> <td> </td> <td></td> </tr> </table> </form> </body> </html> I'm having trouble with the pop up window. Any help would be much appreciated. I have am writing a quiz to test one's knowledge. I am keeping track of the score using javascript function and when you click button, I have another JavaScript function calculate the result. I want to be able to print the result. But when I use document.write statement, the result is printed on another window and not at the end of the current window. I even tried positining the text using absolute in css style. document.write('<div id="header">'); document.write(res); document.write('</div>'); The above code is inside the function that evaluate the result. Any help would be useful. Thanks. Hey there everybody! I'm learning javascript, and I am having trouble figuring out how to do this. Maybe you guys can help me out. What I need is for my main page to have a text field. Above the text field there should be a set of images for bold, italics, underline, etc; when you click on them it inserts the html code <b></b> at the cursor point. Next I want there to be a link, that when clicked will open a popup box with smileys. When you click on one of the smiley images it should insert the smiley code (example  ) into the parent window text field. And would it be possible to make that work with pages of emotes? Or perhaps a second popup window? I hope I explained that without it sounding confusing. I would really appreciate any help. Here is my basic code, it does not include a popup code however. Code: <html> <script type="text/javascript"> function insert(el,ins) { window.lstText={}; if (el.setSelectionRange){ el.value = el.value.substring(0,el.selectionStart) + ins + el.value.substring(el.selectionStart,el.selectionEnd) + el.value.substring(el.selectionEnd,el.value.length); } else if (document.selection && document.selection.createRange) { el.focus(); var range = document.selection.createRange(); range.text = ins + range.text; } } </script> <body> <form> <textarea rows="20" cols="100" name="txt1" onfocus="window.lstText=this;"> This is sample text, click anywhere in here then choose on of the buttons above to see text inserted. </textarea><br /><br /> <img src="http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/ss141/vwcorrado/Docs_smiley.jpg" onclick="insert(window.lstText,'hello')"> <input type="button" value="hi" onclick="insert(window.lstText,'hi')"> <br /> </form> </body> </html> I'm currently constructing a javascript "terminal" on a site I'm building so that I can test objects and functions outside of the web developer terminal in google chrome. Given that I have active javascript defining an object called item, typing item in the chrome terminal returns Object and goes on to list the properties of item. Moreover, I can define a function in the terminal like this: function(x) { return x }, and then function(item) will return Object and list the properties. However, if I use form data and user input in the place of the argument, the datatype becomes a string and not an object, so typing item in the form and clicking a button that performs function(document.form.text.value) returns the string item and not Object. Is there any way to convert this primitive string to an object so that I can then iterate through properties, and so on? Hi all can someone guide me (total JS newbie) on this presumably pretty easy task? I have a "parent" page with some text inputs in it (a form). This is what I am after: -when the user clicks a link it pops open a new window via JS - "child" (this is working). -in the "child" window there are also some text inputs (another form) (done). -when the user changes the value for 'testChild_textInput_4' in the child window, then I want it to automatically set this same value, to effectively overwrite, what is currently in 'testParent_textInput_2' in the parent window. Presumably this involves an onChange event, but it is also OK with me if the needful (the text input's value in the parent window being overwritten) happens upon the child window's form submit. If anyone can show me either trick, I would be thrilled! I set up a test page to make this all easy to talk about: http://www.yellow-turtle.com/testDumpMe_parent.html Please let me know! Thanks! -John All, I have the following code: Code: <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="UTF-8" /> <title></title> <style type="text/css">body{font:62.5% Verdana,Arial,sans-serif}</style> <link href="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.0/themes/base/jquery-ui.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.0/jquery-ui.min.js"></script> <script> $( "#drg" ).draggable({ revert: true }); var drpOptions = { drop: function(event, ui) { $(this).append( ui.draggable.text() + "<br>" ); } }; $( "#drplist" ).children().droppable( drpOptions ); $( "button" ).button().click(function() { $( "<li>Dynamic droppable<hr></li>" ).droppable( drpOptions ).appendTo( "#drplist" ); }); </script> <style type="text/css"> #drg { background: silver; width: 100px; padding: 0.5em; text-align: center; } ul, ul li { list-style: none; margin:0 ; padding: 0; } #drplist li { width: 200px; height: 100px; margin: 1em; padding: 0.5em; background: lightgreen; } </style> </head> <body> <div id="drg"> Drag me </div> <hr> <button>Click to add a droppable</button> <ul id="drplist"> <li>Drop here<hr></li> </ul> </body> </html> Basically what I would like to happen is that when I click on the button it generates the table like it did and then I want like two checkboxes next to it with some text and a break line in between the two. How can I update my jQuery to give me this result? Why i wrote that was i want to get the scirpt variable as a part of the url of the target page . I also tried using the location.href="targetpage?value="+value . But It is not redirecting to targetpage because of the action attribute in the form tag. And if we use location.href without action attribute only that script variable was posted and all other remaining textboxes and other form items are being not posted .. Thats why I wrote the scirpt in action attribute. I want the action attribute to work and also the java script variable to be posted .so i wrote the script tag in action attribute of form tag . I hope u got the Scenario . Please help me to resolve the issue.. Here is my scenario, i have a html that allows the user to retrieve .pdf file from the server. If the users are trying to open the html again, mean the user open a new tab/window to the same html url, the window will prompt the user that the html is already opened. The user will need to close the old html tab/window first before open a new one. Is it possible to stop the users to open the new same html file before he/she closes the old one ? Is there any link that teach the tutorial about this ? I am wondering do i need to use cookies in the browser to store the url in order to compare to the new tab/window url ? Thanks for helping. I appreciate this a lot. Hi guys, I have been working on this and cant figure it out. I have an index.html as my main file and I wanted to have a pop-up window that will also open together with the index file. the pop-up window is a notepad like type, file name is clipboard.html. Addon: i started adding code to have the pop-up to stay on the right side of the screen and always on top. As of right now, all codes are very confusing and i decided to delete and start from scratch. Can you guys fill in the blanks? hi I am making a multimedia Cd presentation in Html and I was wondering if there is any way for the index.html to autorun not in a browser, but only in window without any buttons - like a popup widow ? I really need help, i am looking for solution for 3 days now, and I need this to be done tomorrow.. thanx Hi EveryBody, I want to add a preview of html page feature in my project. But I am so bad I cannot even get a window alert to pop up. All I want to do is call the function in the body. But do not know how... This is what I have so far which prompts the user three numbers and then displays the max of the numbers and all three of them. When the user clicks the link, I would like to have the videos open in a transparent window (not a separate browser wndow). I have figured out how to embed the files and have them open in a transparent window as soon as you load/refresh the page but I want to open the SWF using a link. Any suggestions? Thank you all. B I have an HTML page that is making use of JQUERY and many other JQUERY plugins. Inside this HTML page there are 2 different types of iFrames that display PHP forms. One is a normal iFrame: Code: <iframe height="740" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="auto" style="width:100%;border:none;overflow-x:hidden" src="https://www.website.com/machform/embed.php?id=9" title="Contact Us"><a href="https://www.website.com/machform/view.php?id=9" title="Contact Us">Contact Us</a></iframe> The other makes use of a JQUERY plugin called Shadowbox: Code: <a href="https://www.website.com/machform/embed.php?id=8" rel="shadowbox;width=1100;height=950;player=iframe" class="button1"><span></span><strong>Click Here</strong></a> Inside these iFrames are PHP forms from a PHP form application called MachForm, which is highly customizable. Here are the questions. Ultimately, I want to accomplish 2 things: 1. I would like to send variable information from the PHP form in the iFrame to my HTML page, to be displayed within javascripts. For example: If someone fills out a PHP form in my iFrame and clicks submit, I want to have a JQUERY popup say, "Thank you, [NAME]". 2. When the user submits the form, the action of clicking the submit button in the PHP form should enable #1, above. There needs to be a way to tell the HTML/Javascript that the submit button on the PHP form in the iFrame has been clicked. I realize this is all fairly vague, especially without the addition of more code. However, I am not even sure if I am posting this in the correct forum, since it incorporates a little of several languages and styles. From this point any direction or idea would be very helpful!
