JavaScript - Simple Ajax Form
This form retrieves results from a mysql database. It works fine but when I click submit it shows the result only for a second. When I hold down submit the result stays there. How do I get the result to stay on the screen after I hit submit? Even better how do I get it to spit out results without having to hit a submit button or press enter?

My PHP file is just a simple echo statement to see that it works to that point. It doesn't. For whatever reason, it never seems to hit readyState ==4. It enters the function (I've checked with alerts), but the if statement never comes out to be true. I have no idea why. I've combed over the code for errors for a while now and I can't find anything. Any ideas? Would be much obliged. I've literally tried everything. Read 26 tutorials, interchanged code, etc. My validation functions all work. My AJAX functions work (tested manually using servlet URL's). The second servlet validates the reCaptcha form that's generated on my webpage. After the form is validated, even if everything's correct, nothing happens upon clicking submit. I even have an alert pop up if with the captcha result, just for middle-layer debugging purposes. I want to do all of my validation clientside; none serverside. However, going to be tough if I can't get my god damn form to submit. I've been puzzled by this for close to 36 hours straight. I am trying to perform an AJAX lookup during form validation onsubmit. It is important that it takes place during submit, but it seems to always return true and allow the form to post even when it should not. Hello all, I am building a service that other developers will use. As part of this, they need to embed a form on their website. This form will be hosted on my server, be updated periodically, etc. We'd been trying to create a Javascript file that would use JQuery to load the form, but we're running into issues from the Same Origin Policy, where Ajax requests cannot be made across different domains. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this? We thought about using an iframe, but that solution will not suffice. Thanks! Both pages work until I change it to an ajax call. I'm trying to write a progressively enhanced web application. I have an index page and a form with some select boxes and some radio buttons on a different php page. Before enhancement occurs, the form is accessible via regular links and everything works as expected. No issues. In the enhanced version of the application, the form is AJAXed into the index page. When this occurs, the select boxes in the form work perfectly. The radio buttons are initially unchecked and I can check one option as usual. However, once one is checked, clicking the other radio options does nothing. I am unable to check a different option. Anybody got a clue what the problem is? Using Chrome by the way. Firefox is the same as Chrome. In IE I can't even check a radio button the first time. The only thing I can think of is that some javascript is preventing me from selecting a different radio option. That would explain why it works ok in the non-enhanced version because there is no JS there. I can't find anything that I've written that might cause this effect I'm using jQuerys form plugin on my pages. I'm going to try writing it out and see if that fixes anything. Any body ever experience a similar problem with this? In the mean time, is there a way I can check if any JS functions when I click on the radio button? Hey all, I'm finishing up a project at work that has a web-based front end. Our tightly compressed schedule has left me with no time to properly learn Javascript, so I need some help. I have two pages that need client side validation... Page 1: several text inputs, one select, one textarea, and (maybe) a checkbox There are some complex things I could do here, but for now, I just need to make users behave. The textarea must have something in it, certain select options need a Yes/No popup, and if the checkbox is written to the page (ASP determines this) then it must be checked before certain select options are submitted. I could copy some examples I've found, but how do I ignore the checkbox when it doesn't exist? Page 2: two selects and a textarea Options must be selected and the textarea must have something in it. Straightforward, except that it's a dynamic form where each element has a name + i where i is a number that increments each time the user expands the form. Will wildcards work here? I know this looks like "do my homework" but any help would be greatly appreciated. This is desired to work in IE6, but if that can't happen, I can force an IE8 upgrade on everyone. I'm not one for making my own scripts, so not quite sure about the best way to go about doing this. I've got a form with 2 different sets of radio buttons. Upon submitting, I'd like to redirect the user to a certain page, based on the selections they made among the radio buttons. Thanks in advance. Would appreciate some help making some minor enhancements to a pet adoption form: http://pawsct.org/application.php Problem - Applicants don't read. They answer "No" to the "Agree to Shelter Visit" question, then fill out the looooong application, and get abusive when told that they're not eligible for adoption. They apply from Florida and ignore the warnings about the 90 mile limit. Text notes just don't make enough of an impact. I want to use OnChange to give an alert if someone does not answer "Yes" to agree to a shelter visit (i.e. popup "You must agree to a shelter visit to qualify for an adoption from PAWS") and perhaps a warning message (red text reminder about the 90 mile limit next to the drop-down box) if someone enters a state other than CT. Second problem - I'm a volunteer who doesn't know javascript and can't cobble together a SIMPLE, workable solution from other code samples. Any assistance that you can provide would be most welcome and appreciated. Note: we are planning a redesign of the web site and may do some more sophisticated form validation (e.g. check age, valid e-mail, valid phone) in the future. But for now, we're just looking to check a few key fields for answers that would immediately disqualify an applicant. I'm trying to do a simple validation to see if the field is blank, if it is, I want to write a message to a div. I've added the function call to an onclick. It seems to be set off no matter if there is a value or not, and what's more, the fields are clearing out when the link is clicked. My brain is mush right now, so what am I missing?
