JavaScript - Loading Data From Excel Or Notepad To Combobox
I am working on some sort of a program that will load data from a notepad or Excel file and load it into a ComboBox. The notepad file would have names and phone numbers in it. The ComboBox would only show their names in alphabetical order. There would also be a button that when you click it, it would open up Outlook (if you are signed into Outlook) and auto-fill the form with their phone number @ vtext.net (for texting verizon cell phones). The reason behind this is so the notepad or Excel file can be edited to add more users as the company expands.
I'm on a time crunch and haven't really been able to figure out how to do the data on load. If anyone could help and explain their code a little bit I would be very grateful. I haven't touched JavaScript in around 5 years so I'm very rusty. Thanks. The information is stored in two forms: SQL and Excel. I am looking for a way to use my HTML/javascript code to load the data from one of these files without having to code each option individually. Important note: this will not use the internet at all: all of these files will be available locally. There is a lot of material on running queries to servers, but I didn't think that would really apply here. Ideally the code would populate variables based on cells referenced in the Excel files (as I am familiar with Excel, but havne't used SQL at all). I have some data on the client side in javascript arrays that I display to user in a html table on the webpage. I want to give an option to the user to save the data in excel. I thought of a solution that involves: 1. Create an http request and post the data as json 2. On server using jsp convert the json data to html table 3. Set the response headers to open the response in excel This solution works, but does not look optimal. Why to send a http request to server when all the data is there on client side. I tried creating a new document on the client side and open that in a new window. That does not open the document in excel as the response header is not set. Any suggestions on how to achieve this. I want to avoid http request to server. Hello folks, I want to have a combobox with bookmark options. After you select a value from this combobox you can bookmark it with a push button. This should popup a bookmark dialog from the browser bookmark dialog. Can anybody help me? Lets say we have 3 options in the value's. Google, Yahoo, Bing When you select Google and you push Place bookmark you should get a browser bookmark dialog with a title "Google search site". The url would be just http://www.google.com/ I also want Yahoo with the url http://www.yahoo.com/ and the bookmark title Search at Yahoo! and Bing with the url http://www.bing.com and the title Search at Bing I'm looking already for a while for this. It prints the contents of a textarea, say, a notepad, first bringing up the print dialog. It does it with an (almost) invisible iframe. At first I thought it was only for IE, but I must have tested incorrectly (after a few dozen times uploading and printing out you lose your sanity) and I now see that it DOES work in FF, but not in Chrome. For me (and maybe others?) that is very good news because it will probably be easier for someone more knowledgeable than me to solve a Chrome problem rather than an "all other than IE" browsers problem. I think this bit: if (ifr) tests for IE and if it fails the condition, it dynamically creates a new window to print from. And I now see it does just this in FF. But not in Chrome. Is there anyone who can see why this would fall over in Chrome? hey I have a page in which I already have a 3 level combox that works fine. I want to add to that page another combobox of 2 level. When I tried to do it I find out that they control of each other. I tried changing the variables names. (changing "x" into "w" in the second combobox) Well that worked. Hi guys, Let me explain simply what I do and what I'm trying to achieve: I got a couple of comboboxes were the user selects a series of numbers. Once a selection is made, the value is appended to an input box. The idea is that the appended values form a telephone number, or at least part of one, that will then be used to search trough a database to look for a matching number. Basically what happens now is this: combobox indicatif: 021 | 022 | 031 combobox bloc: 555 | 666 | 777 If I select "021" from indicatif, the script will append 021 to the input "blabla". The problem is, if I now select "022", the input will show "021022" instead of replacing the 021 with 022. What I would like is that, for each combobox, the script replaces the selected value with the new one instead of simply appending it, like instead of say 021022555666 it would show 021555 or 022666 or 021666 depending on what is selected...you get the idea? Is this doable? Needless to say I'm a total noob at javascript...I adapted the code I got now from some other guy who was trying to achieve almost the same thing and adapted it to my needs, or least, tried to, but now I'm stuck. No problems, except I would like it to pause for a moment whilst it is loading, and show a loading box div at the bottom of the screen as it loads the new content, just to give some positive feedback for the user. The 'new content' is a div which is at the bottom of the page and is where the new content loads to! I have created a script which transfers data from an Excel CSV file into an In-Design document and formats it, I am now just trying to take out some of the options for human error. I need the script to Open the Excel file which has been selected by dialog box and then save it to the desktop as a csv file. I thought this bit would be simple, but I cannot get the file to even open. Help please, Nick |
