JavaScript - Making This Efficient
Right now I am using the following method to show/hide divs containing videos.
html Code: <div class="vidPop" id="vidPop"> <div class="vidFrame" id="vidFrame"> <iframe id="Iframe1" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/xxxxxxx1" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0"></iframe> <div class="vidClose"><a href="#" onclick="vidPopdown()"><img src="images/closeban.png" width="52" height="52" alt="close" /></a></div> </div> </div> <div class="vidPop2" id="vidPop2"> <div class="vidFrame2" id="vidFrame2"> <iframe id="Iframe2" src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/xxxxxxx2" width="640" height="360" frameborder="0"></iframe> <div class="vidClose"><a href="#" onclick="vidPopdown2()"><img src="images/closeban.png" width="52" height="52" alt="close" /></a></div> </div> </div> js Code: function vidPopup() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; } function vidPopdown() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; document.getElementById('Iframe1').src = document.getElementById('Iframe1').src } function vidPopup2() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop2'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame2'); o.style.visibility = 'visible'; } function vidPopdown2() { var o = document.getElementById('vidPop2'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; o = document.getElementById('vidFrame2'); o.style.visibility = 'hidden'; document.getElementById('Iframe2').src = document.getElementById('Iframe2').src } all of this works just fine, but now I am adding yet another video, and I know that this isn't the best way to go about doing this. I ought to be able to use 1 function and tell it which iframe to load, however I dont really know javascript. Any and all help on this would be greatly appreciated. Similar TutorialsRight.. I'm still new to javascript so i've just been messing about with some code and came up with a pointless small program i just wanted to know if the code written is efficient? in other words are there other ways that would be more suitable or are certain parts of the code wrong? The script basically does this. 1. prompts you to enter a time interval in the range of 1 second to 10 seconds 2. From what I see online most people use a database and limit the number of results they return, but I noticed that some chats, like google and facebook, for some reason are able to load the full chat and get results almost instantly. How do they do it? I would love to make a replica of a google chat and just redesign the way it looks. If anyone can help me with the javascript/php part of this, that would be great. thanks! Hi all, I've been trying to build a form with dynamic checkboxes. I'd like to have a master 'select none' checkbox in a few form fields which has 2 key functions:- 1) clearing all field boxes the user may have entered before opting to select none 2) disabling all field options to make it impossible for the user to tick both 'none' and other options. This 'select none' checkbox should be ticked by default, so when the user unchecks it, the rest of the field options light up. I'm a complete novice but I have it working ok having stitched a few pieces of code I've found together, however I don't think it's very efficient. I have had to duplicate both bits of the javascript to make it work, changing only the function names in the <head> area ('Uncheck' and 'Uncheck2') and the class variables in the form in the <body> area ('fruit_child' and 'veg_child'). As this form will have several more fields eventually, I'm looking for a better way to do this while maintaining the functionality. Ive read bits about object-orientated programming which may be what I'm looking for to make this more efficient, but I'm not sure how to implement it in this example. Can a more experienced coder please help? Kind thanks, Fleef Code: <head> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> // Check_ctr: clears all when 'none' box ticked --> function Uncheck(chk) { if(document.myform.Check_ctr.checked==true){ for (i = 0; i < chk.length; i++) chk[i].checked = false ; } } // End --> </script> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> // Check_ctr: clears all when 'none' box ticked --> function Uncheck2(chk_veg) { if(document.myform.Check_ctr_veg.checked==true){ for (i = 0; i < chk_veg.length; i++) chk_veg[i].checked = false ; } } // End --> </script> </head> <body> <form name="myform" method="post"> <input type="checkbox" id="none_fruit" name="Check_ctr" value="yes" onClick="Uncheck(document.myform.fruit)" checked><b>None</b><br> <input type="checkbox" name="fruit" value="1" class="fruit_child" disabled="true">1<br> <input type="checkbox" name="fruit" value="2" class="fruit_child" disabled="true">2<br> <input type="checkbox" name="fruit" value="3" class="fruit_child" disabled="true">3<br> <input type="checkbox" name="fruit" value="4" class="fruit_child" disabled="true">4<br> <input type="checkbox" name="fruit" value="5" class="fruit_child" disabled="true">5<br> <script> // disables options when 'none' ticked --> $(function(){ $("#none_fruit").click ( function() { if ( !$(this).is ( ":checked" ) ) { $(".fruit_child").removeAttr ( "disabled" ); } else { $(".fruit_child").attr ( "disabled" , true ); } }); });</script> <br><br><br> <input type="checkbox" id="none_veg" name="Check_ctr_veg" value="yes" onClick="Uncheck2(document.myform.veg)" checked><b>None</b><br> <input type="checkbox" name="veg" value="1" class="veg_child" disabled="true">1<br> <input type="checkbox" name="veg" value="2" class="veg_child" disabled="true">2<br> <input type="checkbox" name="veg" value="3" class="veg_child" disabled="true">3<br> <input type="checkbox" name="veg" value="4" class="veg_child" disabled="true">4<br> <input type="checkbox" name="veg" value="5" class="veg_child" disabled="true">5<br> <script> // disables options when 'none' ticked --> $(function(){ $("#none_veg").click ( function() { if ( !$(this).is ( ":checked" ) ) { $(".veg_child").removeAttr ( "disabled" ); } else { $(".veg_child").attr ( "disabled" , true ); } }); });</script> </form> If you go to a Youtube video by Justin Bieber or Rebecca Black, comments are constantly being posted and it seems like the autorefresh for the comments kicks in every half second. I don't plan on having millions of users viewing my page, but still, wouldn't having every user make a [mysql] request to the server every half second really take a toll on the server (especially since I don't plan to ever have the resources that Youtube has)? Facebook also seems to have instantaneous auto-refreshes, be it in comment boxes or their chat interface. So what would be the best method to implement a near-instantaneous autorefresh system with minimal resource usage? Okay so to be short, I'm trying to make a script similar to a link checker but instead of having to input each link in one by one and click a button (A button saying Validate, for instance), I was looking for something that would do it automatically? Example - 1. First I input the link http://www.example.com/posts.php?do=1000000000 and click Start or Validate. 2. After clicking Start or Validate, the validator or script would begin checking links, modifying the http://www.example.com/posts.php?do=1000000000 to http://www.example.com/posts.php?do=1000000001 and so on and so on, until it reached all 9's. 3. After the scanning, every existent link (Meaning links that didn't give the 404, or re-direct to another page) would be displayed in the page below or a log file. I really appreciate the help everyone, since I'm still into learning about Javascript. Thanks in advance! Hello, I'm un-sure on what I should have called this topic so sorry for the possibly mis-leading topic name. Firstly, my menu bar is attached to the top of the clients screen as seen here. Secondly, I've been wondering how could I make it so when a button is pressed another div around 40px in height would appear above it(that div is also attached to the clients screen). For example I saw http://9gag.com/, when you click on search button in the top right hand corner the search bar appears ontop of the menu bar. I'm decent at JavaScript but I have no idea how I should go about making a calculator. So far I'll drop a bunch of buttons down that all onclick to a function (a,b) and then it will add or w/e then return. How would I incorporate multiple methods such as subtraction or multiplication though? Basically I'm confident I the ability to code or learn to make this calculator, just have no idea how to set this up, thanks. Hi all, I have a client who wants a gallery of images to pop up on her enter page similar to this site, http://bit.ly/mUscmo . It won't be identical, but she likes the way the images all pop up and then just stay there. I know how to function JavaScript, but I don't know how to write it from scratch. Is there any where I could find a code that does something similar to this? Or, does anyone know the basic coding that I'd need for this? Thanks! Q I'm working on making a searchable javascript and DOM reference...A chm like what php has. I mainly need it for myself because I don't always have access to the net. I was wondering if anyone would like to contribute? I want a URL parameter, like http://www.thatswhyimbroke.com/#tab-1 to be added when a link is clicked. So for example, when I click one of the menu tabs on http://www.thatswhyimbroke.com/, I want a #tab-1 to be added at the end of the URL. If you look now, clicking a new tab adds nothing to the URL because it's pre-loaded. Please let me know if you need more explanation, I'm not sure i'm explaining it correctly. Thanks for any help! Hi, just a quick question. Is it possible to make an array lowercase at all? or can you only do this with a string? Thanks. Hi! I need to make my own web page with quiz on it! Something like this http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/popquiz.htm The main problem - how to calculate scores? I need to make, for example, pop up box that shows, how many answers are right/wrong. What should I use for that? Hi all, I'll get it out their early, I am somewhat of a javascript novice. Here is the code I am working with: Code: <script type="application/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { var numitems = $("#foo6 > li").length; var secondstartpoint = numitems -3; }); </script> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> $(function() { $("#foo6").carouFredSel({ width : 136, height: 822, scroll : { items:1 }, items : { visible: 6, start: secondstartpoint }, easing:"swing", auto : false, prev : "#next3", next : "#prev4", direction:"down", align:"left" }); }); </script> As you can probably see I am trying to set the start point of a jquery carousel to equal a variable that I have created. You can see I have tried " start: secondstartpoint", but this isn't working. I think possibly because the way the plugin is formatted so that the "start" option can only equal a number. Can anyone shed some light on this issue and perhaps even suggest a solution? Thanks in advance guys Dan hey guys, new to the forum here but i think i may be staying here for the long haul i've lurked around here a while but recently i havent been able to find a solution to something i'm having trouble with. i need to create a script that allows me to take an image and a button and apply it to the page the button will have a value of "Start" and when the "onClick" event is triggered the image will begin to reposition itself towards the right side of the page (as if it were panning towards the right, like if it were on wheels). once it reaches the end of the window i have get it to come back to the starting position and just keep on looping. the trickiest part (imo) is getting the value of the button to change to "stop" and onClick it needs to reset everything back to neutral. now i am a HUGE javascript "nub" and i dont want someone to do the code for me, i just want some help. i need to learn this. i'll post what i have so far in post #2. if anyone can help with this ASAP i would love you forever. thanks! I have an assignment for a class that I am not sure how to approach. A string, a noun, is input and the program is supposed to make it plural based on the ending. If it ends in a double consonant then I add one ending, if it ends in a vowel I add a different one and then if it ends in two vowels or two consonants I add a third, different ending. I am supposed to do this using string methods. For the project the vowels are A, C, L, and S. I have to read the data in using the string tokenizer. I am not sure how to approach making the loops I need to use to make the words plural. Can anyone help?? EDIT: I have to use if statements to do this. I'm sure this question has been asked, but I tried searching for this answer using many different keywords, but I don't know the correct terminology for my question, as the search results turn up other topics. I'm wondering if there's simple code for clicking on a thumbnail to have a larger version of the picture appear above, but still within, the same webpage, and the background darkens a little. The larger picture has a "close" button, which you click to get back to the underlying original page. An very simple example of the type I'm looking for is he http://www.salon.com/comics/tomo/200...omo/index.html I'm assuming this is a java script that does this. I'm using DreamWeaver. Does Adobe have this type of coding in their "Spry" coding? If not, is there a simple template of the code out there? Thank you for any help. Hello, To start I want to say I'm a newbie at coding/programming and all that so I would appreciate a lot if the explanations would be more thorough. I have a wordpress website (so i guess it can run javascript) and I want to create these tables where certain rows could be clicked and would expand for more information, I made an image for an illustration http://i44.tinypic.com/hurdoz.png . I would so appreciate any help that could tell simple steps how to achieve this, I guess this is a trivial problem to some of you but to me.. i don't know where to begin so yeah, I'm waiting for anything :] I'm not very experienced with javascript, but I have a bit of code that works perfectly for me that expands/collapses a div without any animation from top to bottom. I'm looking for the same exact code that lets me expand/collapse from left to right. I've done my due diligence and have search many forums with limited luck (I've only found one that is animated that I can't turn off the animation). Can someone point me in the right direction to code that does exactly the same as what I've posted below except from left to right? Code: // code to keep collapsed on opening function pageLoad() { collapseAll($('wrapper1-sub','wrapper2-sub','wrapper3-sub','wrapper4-sub','wrapper5-sub','wrapper6-sub','wrapper7-sub','wrapper8-sub','wrapper9-sub','wrapper10-sub','wrapper11-sub','wrapper12-sub')); } addEvent(window,'load',pageLoad); //code to work the collapse function switchMenu(obj) { var el = document.getElementById(obj); if ( el.style.display != "none" ) { el.style.display = 'none'; } else { el.style.display = ''; } } function collapseAll(objs) { var i; for (i=0;i<objs.length;i++ ) { objs[i].style.display = 'none'; } } function $() { var elements = new Array(); for (var i = 0; i < arguments.length; i++) { var element = arguments[i]; if (typeof element == 'string') element = document.getElementById(element); if (arguments.length == 1) return element; elements.push(element); } return elements; } function addEvent( obj, type, fn ) { if (obj.addEventListener) { obj.addEventListener( type, fn, false ); EventCache.add(obj, type, fn); } else if (obj.attachEvent) { obj["e"+type+fn] = fn; obj[type+fn] = function() { obj["e"+type+fn]( window.event ); } obj.attachEvent( "on"+type, obj[type+fn] ); EventCache.add(obj, type, fn); } else { obj["on"+type] = obj["e"+type+fn]; } } var EventCache = function(){ var listEvents = []; return { listEvents : listEvents, add : function(node, sEventName, fHandler){ listEvents.push(arguments); }, flush : function(){ var i, item; for(i = listEvents.length - 1; i >= 0; i = i - 1){ item = listEvents[i]; if(item[0].removeEventListener){ item[0].removeEventListener(item[1], item[2], item[3]); }; if(item[1].substring(0, 2) != "on"){ item[1] = "on" + item[1]; }; if(item[0].detachEvent){ item[0].detachEvent(item[1], item[2]); }; item[0][item[1]] = null; }; } }; }(); addEvent(window,'unload',EventCache.flush); I'm a little rusty since i've been studying vb .net I forgot how to make this external. I know I'm messing up somewhere. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function titbar(val) { var speed = 300; var pos = val; var tit1 = "V"; var tit2 = "VO"; var tit3 = "VOT"; var tit4 = "VOTI"; var tit5 = "VOTIL"; var tit6 = "VOTILL"; var tit7 = "VOTILLI"; var tit8 = "VOTILLIT"; var tit9 = "VOTILLITY"; var tit10 = "VOTILLITY.com"; if(pos==0) { titdis=tit1; pos=1; } else if(pos==1) { titdis=tit2; pos=2; } else if(pos==2) { titdis=tit3; pos=3; } else if(pos==3) { titdis=tit4; pos=4; } else if(pos==4) { titdis=tit5; pos=5; } else if(pos==5) { titdis=tit6; pos=6; } else if(pos==6) { titdis=tit7; pos=7; } else if(pos==7) { titdis=tit8; pos=8; } else if(pos==8) { titdis=tit9; pos=9; } else if(pos==9) { titdis=tit10; pos=0; } document.title = titdis; timer = window.setTimeout("titbar("+pos+")",speed); } titbar(0); </script> it works just fine when I have it internal p.s tit is short for title. no explicitive necessary. |
