JavaScript - Need Help With Custom Script For Text Crawl Formatting
I am not very knowledgeable with javascript. I have the following code pasted into my website and it works, but I want to modify it in the following ways:
1) I want the text to only scroll for a maximum of two visible lines at a time. 2) I want the text to scroll only once and then remain in place. 3) I want the text color to be grey (#ABABAB) --------------------- Here is the code I am using: --------------------- <script type="text/javascript"> window.onload = WindowLoad; var _hsSpeed=50; //lower value means faster speed! var _hsData=new Array(); var _hsCounter=0; function WindowLoad(event) { InitializeHorizontalScroll(); } function InitializeHorizontalScroll() { var arrElements = document.getElementsByTagName("span"); for (var i=0; i<arrElements.length; i++) { var element=arrElements[i]; if (element.getAttribute("horizontalscroll") == "1") { _hsData[_hsCounter] = new Array(); _hsData[_hsCounter]["element"] = element; _hsData[_hsCounter]["text"] = FindInnerText(element); _hsData[_hsCounter]["index"] = 0; _hsCounter++; } } if (_hsCounter > 0) window.setTimeout("HorizontalScrollTimer();", 100); } function HorizontalScrollTimer() { for (var i=0; i<_hsData.length; i++) { var element = _hsData[i]["element"]; var strText = _hsData[i]["text"]; var index = parseInt(_hsData[i]["index"]); element.innerHTML = strText.substr(0, index+1); index++; if (index >= strText.length) index = 0; _hsData[i]["index"] = index; } window.setTimeout("HorizontalScrollTimer();", _hsSpeed); } function FindInnerText(objControl, innerText, nestingLevel) { if ((typeof nestingLevel != "undefined")&&(nestingLevel > 100)) return innerText; if (typeof innerText == "undefined") innerText = ""; if (!objControl) return innerText; if (typeof nestingLevel == "undefined") nestingLevel = 0; var text=objControl.nodeValue; if (!text) text = ""; if (objControl.nodeName.toLowerCase() == "br") return "\n"; for (var i=0; i<objControl.childNodes.length; i++) { text += FindInnerText(objControl.childNodes[i], objControl.childNodes[i].nodeValue, nestingLevel+1); } return text; } </script> --------------------- And this is inserted in the body of the page: --------------------- <span horizontalscroll="1" style="font-family: helvetica;text-transform: uppercase;font-size: 10; letter-spacing: 3; font-color: #ABABAB;">text content</span> --------------------- Thank to anyone who can assist. --------------------- Similar TutorialsCurrently we have an implementation of Lightbox (not sure which version) on our site that aids in the process of a voting system. I wasn't around when it was created, and after creating a new version of the site, have no idea how to re-integrate it so I was hoping some seasoned JS people out there can help me. Now what happens is that people go to the voting page where the list is populated with entries from a mysql db. The names are clickable and, when clicked, a lightbox should show up with the information about the person and have a vote and close button. The vote button, when pressed, should tick a single vote back in the mysql db, and then take them to a "Thank you for voting, here are the current top 10" type page. That's the overall function. Here's what information I do have so far: In the root directory there's a folder named templates Inside of that, there's a folder called Lightbox inside of Lightbox, there are 3 folders [css, images, and js] The *.js folder has [builder.js, effects.js, lightbox.js, prototype.js and scriptaculous.js] inside When clicking on a name, however, it just takes me to the image as if it's directly linked instead of opening up the Lightbox. So I need some help getting this to work. Hello, I am currently working on my school's website. The site is laid out with a DIV on the left set up as a menu (called "leftmenu") and a DIV to the right to display the content (called "maincontent"). Clicking a link in leftmenu calls a script which changes the content of "maincontent". The script currently works as it should except for one small error. The appropriate heading, text and image load for each link, but the formatting between the image and the paragraph is lost. When the page originally loads, the image is set to "float:left" and the paragraph wraps around it to the right. However, when the script runs and changes the contents, the paragraph no longer wraps around the image, but is written below it. Javascript function: Code: var nov12="News for November 12"; var nov11="News for November 11"; var nov10="News for November 10"; function writeNews(title,image,txt) { document.getElementById("newsTitle").innerHTML=title; document.getElementById("newsImage").src=image; document.getElementById("newsText").innerHTML=txt; } HTML for the links calling the function and maincontent: Code: <div class="leftmenu"> <h3>News</h3> <ul class="leftmenu"> <li class="leftmenu"><a class="leftmenu" href="javascript:writeNews('November 12','img1.jpg',nov12)">Nov 12</a></li> <li class="leftmenu"><a class="leftmenu" href="javascript:writeNews('November 11','img2.jpg',nov11)">Nov 11</a></li> <li class="leftmenu"><a class="leftmenu" href="javascript:writeNews('November 10','img3.jpg',nov10)">Nov 10</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="maincontent"> <h3 id="newsTitle">School News</h3> <img id="newsImage" class="newsimagestyle" src="img1.jpg" /> <p id="newsText"><img id="newsImage" class="newsimagestyle" src="" />Select the date from the menu on the left for news posted on that day.</p> </div> I have also attached the "before.jpg" and "after.jpg" screen captures from the relevant section of the website so you can see what changes are happening to the formatting. BEFO AFTER: Any help to keep the formatting in the same would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Phil I am not too familiar with java but found a script to use on my web page. I would like to formate the text and cahnge the color. In the jvav script I can't find those attributes. How can I make these cahnges? Thanks! Alexis I have text being called from an array, however my HTML formatting in the array is not working. How do I add formatting to text in an array? Also how do I make a portion of the array a link? For example: Code: var Text = new Array( "<br /><font style="color:red">URL:</font> <a href="www.google.com">www.google.com</a>", "<br /><font style="color:red">URL:</font> <a href="www.yahoo.com">www.yahoo.com</a>" ); Hello, I'm building a simple custom dropdown menu for a web-site so that I can control look and feel as well as the behavior of an iframe. I've set it up so that when the user clicks on any of the menu's active components, an "if" sequence in the clickHandler() function is activated that gets the element's class. If the event occurred on a dropdown option, the event-target id is checked, and the appropriate function is called. At least this is how it's supposed to work. All of the drop-down options have been assigned the "dmo" class. When I test the menu and click on other elements, it works fine. But when I click the "dmo" drop-down options, nothing happens. Firebug and IE Explorer Developer Tools both show no errors, but on clicking a dropdown option, the correlate code doesn't run at all, and after hours of head-banging, I have no idea why. I am trying to update the text in a span with a date (which is working fine), but I also want to format that date before it is updated in the span. For example, in the text area I input a date (format: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS), and I'd like to output between the span tags M-D-YYYY. Does that make sense? I'm totally lost here and hoping someone can help me out. Here is the javascript. Code: function show_post_date() { var ele = document.getElementById("post_date"); var text = document.getElementById("new_post_date"); // Get the date value, then format it var formatted_date = ele.value; // THIS IS WHAT I'VE TRIED, BUT NOTHING IS UPDATED INTO THE SPAN IF I INCLUDE THIS var curr_date = formatted_date.getDate(); var curr_month = formatted_date.getMonth(); var curr_year = formatted_date.getFullYear(); formatted_date = curr_date + "-" + curr_month + "-" + curr_year; // END SECTION OF WHAT I'VE TRIED if(ele.value != "") { text.innerHTML = formatted_date; } } Here is the element Code: When: <span id='new_post_date' style='font-weight:bold;'></span> <input type="text" name="post_date" id="post_date" value="" onChange='show_post_date()' /> Hi all, im sure this will be pretty simple, at the moment i have some code which sends text from a textarea to a php file, the php file then stores the data into a database. the javascript post is as follows: Code: var text = document.getElementById(area).value; http.open('post', 'autosave.php?text='+text); there is a little bit more to this(just a handle response). My issue is that when the data is passed through javascript newlines and breaks disappear, so when i call the saved data it is presented as one long string with no formatting. i tried the nl2br() function and htmlspecialchars() function in the php file that the javascript passes the data to, this made no difference. I then tried to replace /n with <br /> in the javascript before passing the text variable again this made no differnce. Does anyone have any ideas how to keep formatting during this process? I am having trouble implementing this script. I am not a coder so please give exact, idiot proof advise. :-) Thank You. <script> (function() { var cx = 'user_id:field_id1'; var gcse = document.createElement('script'); gcse.type = 'text/javascript'; gcse.async = true; gcse.src = (document.location.protocol == 'https:' ? Hello, I'm learning javascript and made this little program that takes the price, qty, adds tax and gives you a total. I put in an if statement so that if qty is 0, it becomes 1 then does the calcs. However, if I put in say price 5 and qty 2, qty is changing to false and it doesn't calc. Here it is: http://heresmary.com/test/Bought.html I wanted to toggle text by using a JavaScript. I used the following script: Code: function toggle_visibility(id) { var e = document.getElementById(id); e.style.display = ((e.style.display!='none') ? 'none' : 'block'); } and Code: <a href="#" onclick="toggle_visibility('foo');">Click here to toggle visibility of element #foo</a> <div id="foo">This is foo</div> for every element I wanted to hide by clicking the text. It works fine, but the content of the div is already displayed when loading the page itself. I want it to be hidden first, and only visible when you blick the text. Is this possible? Hi, am newbie in this domain ,so i appreciate any help of you. Am making a site for tattoos and i see somewhere an application in Java for changing text, it was simple text box where you write the text you want and down you choose the Font and down you have the text you want in the wanted fond. Thank you!
Well hello everyone, I have a small problem here. The problem is I have a script that draws 3d models that are in the OBJ Wavefront format onto the canvas. I have narrowed the problem I have down to a small section of the code, the code creates an array within an array to store the X,Y and Z co-ordinates, there is also some code that stores the linking of the vertices. The arrays are as arranged as follows: coordinate 0 X Y Z 1 2 3 etc. the vertices linking array is as above but with point 1 and point 2 as opposed to X,Y and Z. Within the array X,Y and Z (and also points 1 and 2 in their array) are numbered 0,1 and 2. the code is this (I'll show it in context): Code: function drawmodel() { var coordinate = new Array(); var edges = new Array(); textbox = document.getElementById('textbox'); fpos = textbox.value.search('f ') - 1; coor = textbox.value.substr(0, fpos); link = textbox.value.substr(fpos, textbox.value.length); canvasthing = document.getElementById('main'); halfCW = canvasthing.width / 2; halfCH = canvasthing.height / 2; camZ = 0; camX = halfCW; camY = halfCH; Xrot = 0; Yrot = 0; Zrot = 0; FL = 10; ctx = canvasthing.getContext('2d'); //Below (the two for loops) is where it's going wrong (well, one of the places anyway :) for (i=0;i<coor.split('\n').length;i++) { var coordinate [i] = new Array(3); coordinate[i] = coor.split('\n')[i].substr(2).split(' '); } for (i=0;i<link.split('\n').length;i++) { var edges [i] = new Array(2); edges[i] = link.split('\n')[i].substr(2).split(' '); } j = 0; ctx.beginPath(); while (j<edges.length) { XYprem = Math.sin(Yrot) * edges[j] [2]; XY = Math.cos(Yrot) * edges[j] [1] - XYprem; XZprem = Math.cos(Yrot) * edges[j] [2]; XZ = Math.sin(Yrot) * edges[j] [1] - XZprem; YXprem = Math.sin(Xrot) * edges[j] [0]; YX = Math.cos(Xrot) * XZ - YXprem; YZprem = Math.cos(Xrot) * edges[j] [0]; YZ = Math.sin(Xrot) * XZ - YZprem; ZXprem = Math.sin(Zrot) * XY; ZX = Math.cos(Zrot) * YX - ZXprem; ZYprem = Math.cos(Zrot) * XY; ZY = Math.sin(Zrot) * YX - ZYprem; FLZ = FL + YZ + edges[j] [2] - camZ; SF = FL / FLZ; XcX = ZX + edges[j] [0] - camX; YcY = ZY + edges[j] [1] - camY; X = XcX * SF + halfCW; Y = YcY * SF + halfCH; ctx.moveTo(X, Y); j++; XYprem = Math.sin(Yrot) * edges[j] [2]; XY = Math.cos(Yrot) * edges[j] [1] - XYprem; XZprem = Math.cos(Yrot) * edges[j] [2]; XZ = Math.sin(Yrot) * edges[j] [1] - XZprem; YXprem = Math.sin(Xrot) * edges[j] [0]; YX = Math.cos(Xrot) * XZ - YXprem; YZprem = Math.cos(Xrot) * edges[j] [0]; YZ = Math.sin(Xrot) * XZ - YZprem; ZXprem = Math.sin(Zrot) * XY; ZX = Math.cos(Zrot) * YX - ZXprem; ZYprem = Math.cos(Zrot) * XY; ZY = Math.sin(Zrot) * YX - ZYprem; FLZ = FL + YZ + edges[j] [2] - camZ; SF = FL / FLZ; XcX = ZX + edges[j] [0] - camX; YcY = ZY + edges[j] [1] - camY; X = XcX * SF + halfCW; Y = YcY * SF + halfCH; ctx.lineTo(X, Y); j++; } ctx.stroke(); } I hope you understand my query and can solve my problem! Thanks in advanced, Alex. I am trying to create a text area input filed for user input, and i want to be able to allow the user to format thier text, just like the ones used in this user forum. I am writing my website in html, php, javascript and css with a MySql database. I am trying to understand how to create such an format-able text area for input. Any ideas? Thank you; Ice |
