Similar TutorialsHello! I am currently using this code on a webpage that lists the site members. Code: function toggleMenu(objID) { if (!document.getElementById) return; var ob = document.getElementById(objID).style; ob.display = (ob.display == 'block')?'none': 'block'; }[ For some reason, and maybe this is the function of it (I am not sure,) when you click 'characters' on the tables lower down on the page, you are sent to the top of the page again. Here is the page in question, if it's necessary: http://oursideofthemountain.webs.com/members.htm Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated! I am very new to Javascript, so please be patient with me! Hi All, Hope someone can help me with this. I have been using a free javascript code to make some drop-down menus. this is the link for the code on dynamic drive. http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamici...anylinkcss.htm The script works fine and I have been using it for a while now. However, one of the websites that I run has just asked me to include a sub menu on one of the menu items. I have managed to get the sub menu to show as requested by using the normal drop down menu and adding a Quote: rev="lr" and giving it another class and rel. However, When the link is hovered over the menu appears to the side as expected but when you move onto that "sub-menu" the original menu disappears. can anyone suggest what changes I would need to make so that the first menu does not disappear? Any help would be greatly appreciated. As you can tell I am new to JavaScript (hence the use of free codes) Hi, I am trying to use JavaScript for several linked drop down menus. The contents of the first drop down menu is defined in the code of the form, however, I do not know the best way to populate the following drop down menus depending on the selection of the previous. I have something working with the following JavaScript code, however as there are lots of options I am not sure whether this is the best way of doing this. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function setYear(chosen, selbox) { selbox.options.length = 0; if (chosen == " ") { selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('Please select a year',' '); setTimeout(setYear(' ',document.question.subject),5); } if (chosen == "1") { selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam1','11'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam2','12'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam3','13'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam4','14'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam5','15'); setTimeout(setYear('11',document.question.subject),5); } if (chosen == "2") { selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam6','twoone'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam7','twotwo'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam8','twothree'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam8','twofour'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam9','twofive'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new } if (chosen == "3") { selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam10','threeone'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam11','threetwo'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('exam12','threethree'); selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new } if (chosen == "11") { selbox.options[selbox.options.length] = new Option('subject1','111'); } } </script> This is what I have in the form: Code: <td>Minimum DBS Year: </td><td colspan="2"> <select name="DBSyear" onchange="setYear(document.question.DBSyear.options [document.question.DBSyear.selectedIndex].value, document.question.exam);"> <option value=" " selected="selected"> </option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> </select> </tr> <tr> <td> Exam Paper: </td> <td> <select name="exam" onchange="setYear(document.question.exam.options [document.question.exam.selectedIndex].value, document.question.subject);"> <option value=" " selected="selected">Please select a year</option> </select> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> Subject: </td> <td> <select name="subject" size="1"> <option value=" " selected="selected">Please select an exam</option> </select> </td> </tr> How would I populate the drop down menus from tables in the database and filter the options depending on the previous drop down selection?? I would appreciate any help! I'm currently looking to revamp the Link Exchange section on my website. Rather than clutter it with banners, I am going to put all the links into a drop down menu, with the banner for the selected site under it. The intention is that when you select a site from the list, the banner underneath changes. However, I can only get it to do this once, then it simply refuses to let you select anything else. This is the code I am using to change it: Code: function defineimage() { if (document.forms[0].gourl.value = "http://jeff.zhomg.com") { document.images.linkimage.src = '/images/exchange/jeff.gif' } else if (document.forms[0].gourl.value = "http://www.strangedrawingsartgallery.com") { document.images.linkimage.src = '/images/exchange/SCH.jpg' } } And this is my drop down menu, and the image I'd like to change: Code: <p><select name="gourl" onChange="defineimage()"> <option value="http://www.strangedrawingsartgallery.com" selected>Strange City Heroes</option> <option value="http://jeff.zhomg.com">Invincible Jeff</option> </select> <input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Go to Site" onClick="dropdown()"></p><p><img src="/images/exchange/SCH.jpg" alt="SCH" name="linkimage" width="468" height="60" border="0" id="linkimage"></p> If you are unsure what I mean by this, you can see for yourself by going to the page in question and selecting 'Invincible Jeff' from the list. The banner will change, but you won't be able to change the selection again. Many thanks (again) for the help. hey guys, happy new year! , I was wondering how to calculate an outcome/number through a combination of 4 drop down menus (drop down menu's 1 and 2 combine to form a specific value and menu's 3 and 4 combine to form a specific value), example ; 1st drop down menu (1*) = a,b,c,d,e 2nd drop down menu (2*) = 5,4,3,2,1 3rd drop down menu (3*)= a,b,c,d,e 4th drop down menu (4*)= 5,4,3,2,1 Example of drop down menu layout - View image: example a->e = low to high (value) predominant value so b5>a1 ; d5>c1 5->1 = low to high (value) Then the calculation involves the 1st and 2nd menu to form 1 value, so c3, e4 etc and the 3rd and 4th menu unite to form 1 value that is different from the first; c2, e3 So (1*2*) b3 ; (3*4*) b1 = x value Also the value from 1*2* menu must be lower than value from menu 3*4*; so you cannot input 1*2* c4 ; 3*4* c5 /or b1 (so once the first menu is selected, the 3rd and 4th menu's wont show anything lower) I am not sure the best way about going to calculate the value for x (generated from the menu combinations) however I can outline the values for each combination as it involves simple addition; Example; 1*2* c5 ; 3*4* c4 = 39 Example; 1*2* c4 ; 3*4* c3 = 43 Example; 1*2* c3 ; 3*4* c2 = 44 Example; 1*2* c2 ; 3*4* c1 = 49 Therefore 1*2* c5 ; 3*4* c1 = 175 (c5>c4 + c4>c3 + c3>c2 + c2>c1 = 175) Starting from a5 to e1 the values are as follows; [(a5->a4 = 17),17,17,17],[(a1->b5 = 22.5),22.5,22.5,22.5],[39.6,39.6,43,44],[49,56.7,56.7,60],[69,76.5,90,161],[189.5,216,(e2->e1 = 246.5),no further value (no f5)] If you could help me out that would be amazing, appreciate any help/feedback in advance! Hey guys, i'm taking on my first minor project in javascript and i've run into an error. For whatever reason, buttons i've defined are calling on functions that supposedly don't exist, yet they are clearly in the code and can be applied anywhere. I also checked the syntax errors in google chrome and they state: Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token else Uncaught reference error: go() is not defined Uncaught reference error: highscore() is not defined. So without further delay, here is the full code. Can anyone help me out? Code: <html> <head> <script type="text/JavaScript"> <!-- var sam = 9; var sally = 8; var donald = 4; function percentage (score) { return score / 10 * 100; }; function go() { document.write("Sam's score on the test is " + percentage(sam) + "%, <br \> Sally's score on the test is " + percentage(sally) + "%, <br \> Donald's score on the test is " + percentage(donald) + "%"); }; function highscore() { if (Math.max(90, 80, 40) === 90){ document.write("Sam's score was the highest.")}; else if (Math.max(90, 80, 40) === 80){ document.write("Sally's score was the highest.")}; else{ document.write("Donald's score was the highest.")} }; //--> </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" onclick="go()" value="Student Grades"> <br \> <input type="button" onclick="highscore()" value="Highest Score"> </body> </html> Hi there. This is my first thread. I'm completely new to javascript. I want to use dreamweaver with javascript to do a litter project in which I want to move value "Saleman" from drop-menu 1 and value "Billy" from drop-down 2 to a list box. The result should be as follows: dropdown 1 Manager Salesman (to be selected) Cleaner dropdown 2 Billy (to be selected) Susan Ivan --- [Add button] Listbox Salesman - Billy Thank you for your help. Cheers Raymond I wish to get the values for the 3rd and 4th cell of each row where these contain drop down menus. I've tried various ways but my code doesn't seem to iterate through rows of a table. I can get the values for the first row, but not the rest. There's isn't a fixed row size for the table as the user will be able to add and delete them. I've put the values in separate arrays but instead of the array containing say [10, 20] it contains [10, 10] as it just duplicates the first row's values. Here's my code that I have so far: Code: function calculate(){ var len = document.getElementById(arguments[1]).rows.length; var cMenus = []; var gMenus= []; for(var j = 1; j<len; j++){ for(var i = 2; i<arguments.length; i++){ var c = document.getElementById(arguments[2]); var g = document.getElementById(arguments[3]); cMenus[a] = c.options[c.selectedIndex].value; gMenus[a] = g.options[g.selectedIndex].value; } a++; } <button type="button" onclick="calculate('text','course', 'credits', 'grade')">Calculate</button> HTML Code up to the first dropdown menu: Code: <table id="course" summary="add/remove course details" width="350px" border="1"> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="tick"/></td> <td><input type="text"/></td> <td> <select name="credits" id="credits"> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="20">20</option> </select> </td> </td> <select name=.... I've tried adding j to the arguments or putting it in "[]" but nothing seems to work. I don't think the platform I'm using supports jquery, so help would be really appreciated for using javascript, thanks. [This is an updated question from my previous thread as I was unable to edit or delete my question] Hello All, I'm trying to find a script that would be able to do the following: The are two drop down boxes, the first one populating the second (state/county --> town) The first box is single choice, the second is multiple choice. I'm looking for a script that would be able to deal with generating the code for all possible values that could be chosen in the second drop down box. The drop down boxes are part of a form which allow people to search for educational courses within areas of a state/county. I've had a good root around the internet but am rapidly getting confused ... many thanks in advance. Si. Hi, I have created a global navigation includes document. Unfortunately the drop down menus that are part of the navigation aren't working. They worked fine when they were part of the page, but now that they are separated from the page as includes the drop down menus don't appear in my test site (posted to a web server). All other content in the includes file appears and works. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. I got no idea how to create a filter based on multiple drop menus to filter & sort data from php mysql query. Can anyone help me to write javascipt for this problem? How difficult would this be to replicate? Is there a write-up or tutorial somewhere I can read and learn how to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks Here is the link: http://www.patagonia.com/web/us/home Hi, I have written a number of functions designed to return frequency data on 1000 randomly chosen numbers using different math functions for the rounding. I would like to include all of these functions within the wrapper of another function so that only one call is needed to get returns from all of the 'inner' functions. However, while each of the functions works in isolation, the moment I wrap them in another function they stop working. The following code is one of the functions 'frequencyWrapperOne' that has been wrapped in the function 'testWrapper'. A call to testWrapper does nothing. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong? Code: function testWrapper() { function frequencyWrapperOne() { var numberArrayOne = new Array(0,0,0); for (var i = 0; i < 1000; i = i + 1) { var chosenNumber = Math.floor(Math.random() * 3); if (chosenNumber == 0) { numberArrayOne[0] = numberArrayOne[0] + 1; } if (chosenNumber == 1) { numberArrayOne[1] = numberArrayOne[1] + 1; } if (chosenNumber == 2) { numberArrayOne[2] = numberArrayOne[2] + 1; } } return window.alert(numberArrayOne.join(',')); } } testWrapper(); Thanks. Is there a way to activate a function from another function? It has to be in the script tag, it can't be in the HTML section. Can I use something similar to this following code? If not, can anyone give me some help? I have tried to do it various ways, and have looked it up a few times, but to no avail. Can I use something similar to this following code? If not, can anyone give me some help? if (condition) {activate functionname();} Any help I can get would be appreciated. Thanks a lot to anyone who can help. Ok here is what I have so far, my ending part of my Call Function I think is ok. for my main function. I think I misplaced the { and } I will show you all the codes I have for my main function this is what I have I think I did misplace something but I can not pin point where that one small things should be Code: unction showResults(race, name, party, votes) { // script element to display the results of a particular race var totalV = totalVotes(votes); document.write("<h2>" + race + "</h2>"); document.write("<table cellspacing='0'>"); document.write("<tr>"); document.write("<th>Candidate</th>"); document.write("<th class ='num'>Votes</th>"); document.write("<th class='num'>%</th>"); document.write("</tr>"); } for (var i=0; i < name.length; i++) { document.write("<tr>"); document.write("<td>" name[i] + "(" + party[i] + ")</td>"); document.write("td class='num'>" + votes[i] + "</td>"); var percent=calcPercent(votes[i], totalV) document.write("<td class='num'>(" + percent +"%)</td>"); createBar(party[i],percent) document.write("</tr>"); } document.write("</table>"); } </script> Just wondering if i misplaced any ; or { or } anywhere suggestions? Here is my call function Code: <script type="text/javascript"> showResults(race[0],name1,party1,votes1); showResults(race[1],name2,party2,votes2); showResults(race[2],name3,party3,votes3); showResults(race[3],name4,party4,votes4); showResults(race[4],name5,party5,votes5); </script> I been going over this, I can not seem to figure out what { i might be missing? Thanks Hello everyone, I am using javascript and I have a radio button that the user selects and I have a function to see which button was selected, but i'm trying to use the return of that if statement in another statement. Basically another part of the function is dependent on what the user selects in the radio button. Here is what I have so far (I have some things in there that might not work because i'm trying to figure out what works): Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function getSelectedRadio() { len = document.dates.dep.length // returns the array number of the selected radio button or -1 if no button is selected if (document.dates.dep[0]) { // if the button group is an array (one button is not an array) for (var i=0; i<len; i++) { if (document.dates.dep[i].checked) { return i } } } else { if (document.dates.dep.checked) { return 0; } // if the one button is checked, return zero } // if we get to this point, no radio button is selected return -1; } function Calculate() { var i = getSelectedRadio(); if (i == -1) { alert("Please select if Marine entered Delayed Entry Program"); } else { if (document.dates.dep[i]) { return document.dates.dep[i].value; } else { return document.dates.dep.value; } } if (document.dates.yearDEAF.value < 1985 && document.dates.monthDEAF.value < 01 && document.dates.dayDEAF.value < 01 && first return from above ) { document.dates.yearDEP.value = (document.dates.yearDEAF.value); document.dates.monthDEP.value = (document.dates.monthDEAF.value); document.dates.dayDEP.value = (document.dates.dayDEAF.value); document.dates.yearPEBD.value = (document.dates.yearDEAF.value); document.dates.monthPEBD.value = (document.dates.monthDEAF.value); document.dates.dayPEBD.value = (document.dates.dayDEAF.value); } else if (document.dates.yearDEAF.value < 1985 && document.dates.monthDEAF.value < 01 && document.dates.dayDEAF.value < 01 && second return from above ) { document.dates.yearPEBD.value = (document.dates.yearAFADBD.value); document.dates.monthPEBD.value = (document.dates.monthAFADBD.value); document.dates.dayPEBD.value = (document.dates.dayAFADBD.value); document.dates.yearDEP.value = "N/A"; document.dates.monthDEP.value = "N/A"; document.dates.dayDEP.value = "N/A"; } } </script> I color coded in red the returns i'm trying to reference and where they need to be. Is this possible, and if so how can I do it? I haven't been able to find anything on the internet so far. Any help is greatly appreciated! I have been searching for a long time but have been unsuccessful on how to develop a drop down menu but have the menu items show in a list above the main nav. Not below. I really like the way this functions: http://www.sohtanaka.com/web-design/examples/toggle/ But I would like the item in the list to appear above the main nav so it animates up not down. Can anyone help me on how to alter this js code to perform this task? Here is the jQuery file link: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js I tried going through this js file but it very complex. Can anyone tell me what I need to change to have the animation roll up instead of down? Any help would be most appreciated. I would love some help on this code I was assigned to debug...I never studied javascript nor have ever coded really, yet my boss(im volunteering at a company) is having me debug a website and I can't seem to figure this out. The problem is the menus stay expanded when the mouse is out, but when you activate the onMouseOver, it fixes it. Here is an extremely simplified version but it shows the problem. And I greatly appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance! Oh and I didn't write any of this + im a noob at coding so if the answer was explained with this in mind that'd be great! ----------- <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <!-- xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"> --> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title>Yep</title> <link href="ReferenceFunctions.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <!--<script type="text/javascript" src="/offices/management_support/js/tab-view.js"></script>--> <!-- ************************ BEGIN Section 1 *************************************** --> <script type="text/javascript"> function ManageTabPanelDisplay() { // // Between the parenthesis, list the id's of the div's that // will be effected when tabs are clicked. I am designing a site using this menu: http://dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/slideinmenu.htm I would like to have two of these menus on the page. Ideally, each will pop out on a rollover. Currently, when I copy and paste the code, only one works (and pops out no matter which menu is rolled over). How do I need to change the code so that both will work independently of each other on the same page? The CSS styling will be the same for both, however they will have different menu items. Thank you in advance!!! I virtually know no javascript, but have been trying to create some sliding menus. 4 Menus along the bottom of the screen that on mouse over, a sub menu slides up from them. I managed to get them to work to slide up, but then when I put the code in to slide back down again it started spazzing out! Can anyone help at all? Here's my javascript code. Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var curVisible; var oldObject; var pusher; var pushBack; var inMotion = false; function reveal(obj) { if(curVisible != null) { oldObject = curVisible; } if(!inMotion) { curVisible = obj; pusher = -100; pushBack = 40; document.getElementById(obj).style.visibility = "visible"; document.getElementById(obj).style.bottom = pusher+"px"; animateOut(); animateIn(); } } function hide() { animateIn(); } function animateIn() { if (pushBack > -100) { inMotion = true; pushBack -=4; document.getElementById(oldObject).style.bottom = pushBack+"px"; setTimeout(animateIn, 20); } else { document.getElementById(oldObject).style.visibility = "hidden"; inMotion = false; } } function animateOut() { if(pusher < 40) { inMotion = true; pusher += 4; document.getElementById(curVisible).style.bottom = pusher+"px"; setTimeout(animateOut, 20); } else { inMotion = false; } } </script> Thanks very much. Have tried loads, but just can't seem to get it to work. It's a lot more complicated than I first thought. Dave |
