JavaScript - Creating A Search Box To Type Custom Words Which Link To Places.
Hi, I'm really new to Javascript. Recently in my IT class, we made a HTML page which would open a popup box, where the user could enter a key word. When the user pressed enter, the page would navigate to a specific page. The code we used was:
Code: <script language = "JavaScript"> where = window.prompt ("Please tell me where you would like to go."); switch (where){ case "Digg" : window.location = "http://www.digg.com" ; break; default: window.location = "http://www.google.com" ; } </script> What I am hopeing to do, is implement this code on my workplaces server, and have the keywords link to other html documents within the server. However when I tested this, for some reason the links are not working. Can this actually be done? Am I missing something silly? Are there any other ways of doing this? Thanks in advance Similar TutorialsSorry, not sure if I need Javascript for this so I posted it in the html forum as well I'm looking to create a simple page where a user can copy and paste a list of ingredients and then push a button to search that list for a number of key words. Key words: Amodimethicone, Trimethylsilylamodimethicone, Glycerin, Trideceth-12, Behenoxy, Bisamino, Aminoethyl, PG-Propyl, Phenylpropyl, Methicone, Cyclomethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethiconol, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Silicate, Siloxy, Trimethylolpropane, Diisostearoyl, Copolyol, Dodecylbenzenesulphonate, Diphenyl, silicone, Methicone, Simethicone, Trisiloxane, sulfate, Myreth, Lauryl, Laureth, Sulfonate, dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Xylenesulfonate, Ammonium, Isethionate, Sulfoacetate, Sarcosinate, Sulfosuccinate, Carboxylate, Taurate, glycinate I don't care how they are alerted if any of the key words match their ingredients pop up, highlight, whatever. *Incase anyone is wondering it is to search hair products for any form of silcones or sulfates since many people wish to avoid them but they come in many different forms. Thanks!! I've found many examples of creating slideshows using javascript all over the internet and these forums. However, I haven't found any that show how to create a slideshow and give each slide a different time interval between switching to the next one. I'm changing my website over from a Flash based one to something that can be read on all devices. In doing so I've looked for ways to add a little motion to the site. I'm working with a friend who has been doing most of the site but here and there I like to get my hands dirty and try some things on my own. Unfortunately he doesn't know Javascript. I wanted to have an animation window in the bottom corner of the page. Look at http://www.whyreboot.com/blog to see what I came up with. I took a slider plugin for Wordpress and basically created a bunch of slides and entered them in to switch every .5s so that I could change how quickly they changed images by making some of them repeat the same slide 4 times for 2s, 2 times for 1s, etc. Though it's not pretty, it works. On Firefox everything looks great although it'd be nice to have fade in and out on each slide. On an iPad or IE it actually shows the flash between slides even when they're the same image. Quite frankly, it's ugly. Does anybody have any ideas? Please keep in mind that I am a network systems engineer by trade so the only coding I know is Cisco IOS, etc. I'm trying to get this to work in a Wordpress site on a window with dimensions of 450X230. I apologize if this is not the correct place to look for help on this. I have read the forum fules and guidelines and this seemed to be the right place. Thanks ahead of time for any sage advice from what looks like a great community of web geeks! Ok, I have what I think is a javascript question (correct me if Im wrong). I designed a custom form in DreamWeaver but can't get it to work. Im thinking I need to add some javascript to work. Heres my form code at the moment: Code: <form id="search-form" action="" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <fieldset> <div class="search-form"> <input type="text" name="search" value="Type Keyword Here" onBlur="if(this.value=='') this.value='Type Keyword Here'" onFocus="if(this.value =='Type Keyword Here' ) this.value=''" /> <a href="#" onClick="document.getElementById('search-form').submit()">Search</a> </div> </fieldset> </form> What I want to do is have the user type in something, click on search, and then show up the results on another page named results. What do I need to do? I am having trouble implementing this script. I am not a coder so please give exact, idiot proof advise. :-) Thank You. <script> (function() { var cx = 'user_id:field_id1'; var gcse = document.createElement('script'); gcse.type = 'text/javascript'; gcse.async = true; gcse.src = (document.location.protocol == 'https:' ? Hi everyone, I was assigned to find out how to do this for my work. We were hoping for a javascript (but it could be PHP or other comparable format). Instead of the search function searching the website, we would like it to search a small database full of information. I have been reading for days now and have just gotten more confused. One thing I read (hopefully it was true) is that you can save a database as an HTML, then convert HTML to .JS which javascript will run. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Jeremy from Farmco Hello! I am trying to create a javascript code in which I prompt the user for a number (an integer from 0 to 100) to search for, then search a function with the number they entered and then display whether the number was found, and if found, a location where it can be found within the list. Can you please tell me what is wrong? <html> <head> </head> <body> <script language = "javascript"> var list = new Array(200); for (var i=0; i < 200; i++){ list=Math.round(Math.random()*100) + " "; document.write(list); } var value=prompt("What is the number you are searching for? ", " "); if (list[i]==value){ {alert("Number has been found in location" +i)}; } </script> </body> </html> Thank you Hello everyone, I'm new to the programming world so please be kind I'm trying to find a code which would take the input value entered in a form field and on click direct you to a page which corresponds with what was entered. So for example: Enter "5" in field. Click Submit. Page opens up (which in fact would be an html file on my server called... 5.html) ( i would want to create 10 pages for values entered from 1-10... each value having a unique result when entered and clicked) I have no idea how to put this all together, i've been searching everywhere. Any kind of help would be appreciated. I would like to apologize in advance if my question sounds too simple. I am a novice to Javascript and have not had any real formal training here. I am creating a webpage which utilizes a separate .xml file to populate values in my webpage. This is my webpage (links.html): and here is my xml file (links_data.xml): This is my output: I have a link at the bottom of the page that points to the device being displayed. In this case, the link should be: http://10.90.139.201 If my xml file changes, it should point to the new IP address. My question is, how do I get the link to work? Currently, my current link (<a href="http://"IP_address"">Link</a>) does not populate any information. Appreciate any guidance here... thanks. Hello, I'm trying to create a webpage where users can click on a dynamically generated set of questions: <?php do { ?> <p><?php echo $row_rsQuestions['question_text']; ?><?php echo $row_rsQuestions['question_type']; ?></p> <?php } while ($row_rsQuestions = mysql_fetch_assoc($rsQuestions)); ?> and by clicking on a particular question, there will be an update for their particular listing of personal questions in a MySql database. I know how to create the database update part, but I think that I would need to javascript to: 1) tell my page that it's time to update (i.e. add a particular question as soon as they click it) 2) pass along the correct variable to the database update portion of the page. Any help on these two items would be appreciated. Thank you! I'm using a form data reference, something like P-1234 for example to create a text file and a link to the file. This is during the construction of a new table or table row with javascript. I have an array of one or more references submitted via form using $_POST. On my action page I am creating a txt file P-1234. If I am creating a table ot table row using createElement(), one of the cells will have a link to the file. If the file is created as follows: PHP Code: $File = $_POST['ref'][$i] . "txt"; After creating the cell Code: var Cell = document.createElement('td'); I assign the file to a variable var File = "<?= $File ?> "; I assume the link is inserted using innerHTML? If so, do I just append the filename to the end of the file path like this? Cell.innerHTML = "http://localhost/Project/+File"; If this is not the right way can someone point me in the right direction? Hi all, I think I have posted in the right place, if not appologies. Anyhow, I am currently creating a website for my canvas printing business and run into a few javascripting issues. I am trying to create a small navigation form whereby a customer can select from a dropdown the required width of canvas, this selection will then populate a second dropdown with a choice of canvas heights. Ok, so trawling many sites I came across some javascript that I was able to chop about and have this part sorted. The problem now is that I would like to include a submit button that when clicked takes the customer to a webpage based on their two dropdown choices, and being a complete newby when it comes to javascript I am stuck trying to include the script to enable this. eg: if they select '20" (51cm)' from the first dropdown and '16" (41cm)' from the second dropdown, they will navigate to "http: / / 20x16.co.uk" canvas print page. I have not currently created the canvas print pages so am unable to give the URLs of the pages. However if somebody can lend a hand to get me started and indicate where the desitnation URLs need to be added, I can drop these in later. The way that the script is currently written, the linked url could be based soley on the choice made in the second dropdown. I have a draft page with the working dropdowns he http://merchant.auctivacommerce.com/...iewtheme=32189 And the code that I currently have is: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var SELECT_WIDTH_FIRST = []; Any help would be greatly appreciated. Wayne Hi there, Ive been asked to find out something in work and I hope someone can help me with this. I am looking to put a search box within a website. Users in work will be searching by 1 of 50 keywords, and each of these key words relates to a different web page that I want the search to open. For Example, typing 'one' in search bar opens link 'one.htm', typing 'two' in search bar opens link 'two.htm' and so on. Ideally it would be great if the seach bar will autocomplete text as well, but anything will be of great help to me!! Is it possible to get a code to do this? As Im a relative newbie, any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks Glen Hi there Im a relative newbie and am trying to have a searchbar that users can complete, with the text entry being from a pre-defined list. The hope is that a new page will open with the link that relates to the search bar entry. Im using an Autocomplete code but cant work out how to get the link part to work. See below code Code: <html> <head> <script src="jquery-latest.js"></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/demo/main.css" type="text/css" /> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/jquery.autocomplete.css" type="text/css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/lib/jquery.bgiframe.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/lib/jquery.dimensions.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://dev.jquery.com/view/trunk/plugins/autocomplete/jquery.autocomplete.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ var data = "092 610 343 505 Utilities".split(" "); $("#example").autocomplete(data); }); var data = [ {text:'Link A', url:'/page2'}, {text:'Link B', url: '/page2'} ]; $("...").autocomplete(data, { formatItem: function(item) { return item.text; } }).result(function(event, item) { location.href = item.url; }); </script> </head> <body> Number: <input id="example" /><p></p> </body> </html> Can someone help me complete this code? For example, how can I change the code so that a text entry of "092" opens "www.google.com" when I hit enter after text entry? Your help with this is greatly appreciated Glen Hi guys, i've been the last few days around a script that i can't make it work, i'm a beginner in javascript so if you guys could help me i'd appreciated. This script is a search engine, when you look for something say the word "titanic" , he shows you a list of results with numbers, being the first link with the higher number (kinda like a score), and then after u click the link you want he goes to the respective page. Now i want him to skip the results page, and directly open the first link that he founds on the page. The Script __________________________ <!-- Begin var item = new Array(); // Just enter as many additional pages that you want to search, then fill in he // additional listings for each page. // "Page Name","path","Page Title","Many,Key,Words","Descriptive Comments" c=0; item[c]=new Array("centerif.htm","","titanic","index, main, start, home, front","Demonstration search engine data about an imagined but probable internet site."); c++; item[c]=new Array("indexg.htm","","About Me","about, author, contact, email, who","Contact details and general information about the creator of the site and what the site is about."); c++; item[c]=new Array("links.htm","","Links page","links, more, where, similar, friends","Links to my favourite sites which I find interesting. Hi all!, I'm having a few challenges trying to create a link to a "new" search from a database search results page. This maybe a better example: My goal is: To allow website visitors to searches site for i.e. "Dog Collars", the results page lists every "dog collar" and store that carries "dog collars" (in database). At that point I would like to have links (on the results page) to all brands of "dog collars" and stores that carry "dog collars". I would like to then be able to click on a "brand" (text link) of "dog collars" and then generate a new results page that lists all store and vendor information. thank you in advance! Erick p.s. this is a link to a site that has a similar featu http://69.0.211.58/~pubexpress/ami/html/index.html Ok so im new to javascript and I have a button in an interface for an app. It's like drag and drop and i want this button to link you to a certain website searching for what the user types in the searchField1 box. The button is button16. Such as you type dogs into the text box and you click the google button among other search engines and it will redirect you to a google search doing a search for dogs. But how do I make this button search google and search for whats in searchField1. I would really appreciate the help. Im looking everywhere to learn this but just cant find it. If you could tell me how or send me a link to a tutorial that would be great. Thanks! Here is the code: I don't know where and what to add to do that. Please help. Hi, I am using a tooltip that uses the following javascript Code: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { //Tooltips $(".tip_trigger").hover(function(){ tip = $(this).find('.tip'); tip.show(); //Show tooltip }, function() { tip.hide(); //Hide tooltip }).mousemove(function(e) { var mousex = e.pageX - 90; //Get X coodrinates var mousey = e.pageY - 400; //Get Y coordinates var tipWidth = tip.width(); //Find width of tooltip var tipHeight = tip.height(); //Find height of tooltip //Distance of element from the right edge of viewport var tipVisX = $(window).width() - (mousex + tipWidth); //Distance of element from the bottom of viewport var tipVisY = $(window).height() - (mousey + tipHeight); if ( tipVisX < 90 ) { //If tooltip exceeds the X coordinate of viewport mousex = e.pageX - tipWidth - 90; } if ( tipVisY < 90 ) { //If tooltip exceeds the Y coordinate of viewport mousey = e.pageY - tipHeight - 90; } //Absolute position the tooltip according to mouse position tip.css({ top: mousey, left: mousex }); }); }); </script> As you can see I have set its X position at -90 and y position at -400 so that It could be displaying well when the mouse is hover over a link and it do appear well in the testing page http://bloghutsbeta.blogspot.com/201...slidernav.html If you put your mouse over ALEX in 'A' category BUT from the same test site but in different location from above here http://bloghutsbeta.blogspot.com/201...ting-main.html if you put your mouse over ALEX under 'SIMULATION' category then you will see that the tooltip is way down. Not even that the tooltip moves away if the screen resolution changes. I changed value again and again but didn't reach any conclusion, can someone help me with this issue as what to do to fix it? Note: If you require a complete markup please let me know in comment, I considered it not required that's why I didn't added it to my post ^^ I've managed to gain decent knowledge of HTML and CSS and am now looking into Javascript, I have been following the "beginner JavaScript tutorials" that TheNewBoston does on youtube, is this the best source or would you advise using http://www.w3schools.com/??? Any other websites? Thanks Hi.. I have javascript code with computation, but I have problem in my result because it was not round off or fixed into two decimal places only. here is my code: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function test_(cmpd) { var len_ = (document.frmMain.elements.length) - 1; for (i=0; i <= len_; i++ ) { var strPos_ = document.frmMain.elements[i].id.indexOf(cmpd) if (strPos_ != -1) { var strPos = document.frmMain.elements[i].id.indexOf("_"); var strId = document.frmMain.elements[i].id.slice(strPos + 1) + "_" + document.frmMain.elements[i].id.slice(0,strPos) // this is the computation that I need to fixed the result into two decimal places document.frmMain.elements[i].value = document.getElementById(strId).value * document.getElementById('mult').value; } } } </script> Thank you so much Hi this is on my midterm review and I got the program down easily but I just wanted to know if there was an easy way of shortening down the answer to only 2 decimal places.possibly through division? Code: import java.util.*; public class StockSale { public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); double stockSale; // represent the stock sale price double commission; System.out.print("Please enter a the stock value price: "); stockSale = input.nextDouble(); if(stockSale < 100.00) commission = 20.00; else if (stockSale <= 999.99) commission = (20.00 + ((stockSale - 99.99)*.01)); else if (stockSale <= 9999.99) commission = (30.00 + ((stockSale - 999.99)*.005)); else if (stockSale <= 99999.99) commission = (75.00 + (( stockSale - 9999.99)*.0025)); else commission = ( 150.00 + ((stockSale - 99999.99)*.0015)); System.out.print("The commission on this stock sale is $" + commission ); } } i appreciate any help given thanks |
