JavaScript - Update, But 1 Problem: Function Does Not Execute; It Is Ignored / Variables Not Seen
Hello. This is very long and I think if you look at code it might be quicker. If not, then please read along.
Here is the code and the problem: Code: function addtwoboxes { get values from two text boxes, one about width, the other one about height, and store each in a variable; a=width; b=height checkifwidthproblem(); //to see if the boxes are empty and with numbers checkifheightproblem(); //to see if the boxes are empty and with numbers if (width_not_ok==false && height_not_ok==false) { Go Ahead and do calculations and other things } function checkifwidthproblem() { width_not_ok=false; if problems with the data in the textbox (the a variable is being checked). { bring up an alert box width_not_ok=true; } } //end of checkifwidthproblem function function checkifheightproblem() { height_not_ok=false; if problems with the data in the textbox (the b variable is being checked) { bring up an alert box height_not_ok=true; } } //end of checkifheightproblem function I would like this function to be setup the same way as the addtwoboxes function, but right now I am only calling up the checkifwidthproblem function, and it doesn't execute and the form gets submitted. The fillInvoiceNumber function can be called because if I place only an alert of Hello in it, it comes up, and then the form gets submitted. If it do get this working, I would also need to be sure that it is seeing the results of the variables width_not_ok and height_not_ok, just as they are for the addtwoboxes function. function fillInvoiceNumber() checkifwidthproblem(); //to see if the boxes are empty and with numbers checkifheightproblem(); //to see if the boxes are empty and with numbers if (width_not_ok==false && height_not_ok==false) { Go Ahead and do calculations and other things ] This is going to be a bit long, but it's the only way I can be sure of that I have covered everything, so please bear with me and help me out. Thanks. Please Provide Solution Using my way First, Then suggest Better Ways: O.k. Before I post the problem, I know, since I took program classes years ago and since I have done a little research here and here, that there are better, more efficient, and tidier ways to do what I am doing, but I have started already this way and would like to continue this way. I will ask what's the better way to do this in another thread, unless 1) you feel like explaining the bettery way and 2) it's not too long or complicated, but AFTER you have provided me with a solution to doing it my way. The Setup / What My Form is Supposed to Do: I have a form with two buttons. The user has to enter some information into the form and then click the button to have some calculations done and for other text fields to automatically filled in. After that, the user has to click submit. A note about the submit button: The type is image and the name says submit. The form line has the following: <form target="abcco" action="https://www.domainname.com" method="post" id="Form" onsubmit="fillInvoiceNumber()"> I will explain what the fillInvoiceNumber() is doing later on. Data Validation / Verification: 1) I want to ensure that when the user clicks the first button, let's call it GetPrices to make things easier, that it checks to see if data is enterted into the textboxes and that it is the right kind of data. 2) After the GetPrices button is clicked, the user can then enter nonsense into the textboxes and click submit or, never click the GetPrices button, the first button to begin with, and so junk will be submitted. This is what I have going on: For the GetPrices button, I have the following: onclick="addtwoboxes() (the names I have aren't fully descriptive of all that's going on, as I do have more things happening, but for now I have left them like that). in the addtwoboxes function I have it calling up two functions, each for a textbox in which the user has to enter width in one and height in another, and if the textboxes are not empty and have the correct data in them, then the calcuations for the addtwoboxes take place; if not, nothing happens (regarding the calculations; an alert box comes up for either or both of the functions in the addtwoboxes function if something is wrong). So, the two functions that are called in the addtwoboxes() function are checkifwidthproblem() checkifheighthproblem() which I am calling just like that but with a semicolon to the end of each one. This next now is one of the areas where I do believe this can be combined, since only one value is changing, but I will leave it like this for now. The checkifwidthproblem() function starts of with a variable:width_not_ok=false; (after doing some research, I see that this is often set the opposite way or not set at all) if something is wrong with the data entered into the width textbox, an alert box with a message comes up, and I then have the following variable: width_not_ok=false; For the checkifheighthproblem(), it's basically the same as the width problem, except, with it's own set of variables. I had the same ones as the width one, but if things were not ok with the width textbox, but o.k. with the height textbox, the calculations were taking place. So, because of this I used new variables in the height function and had an if statement check both variables for false. So, the checkifheighthproblem() starts of with the variable: height_not_ok=false and if there is a problem with the data entered into the height textbox, an alert box comes up and the variable height_not_ok=true is set. When the user presses the GetPrices button, this function works excellently. Everything goes as it should. The problem is when the form is being submitted. I would like the textboxes to be rechecked. So, right now I have a function called fillInvoiceNumber() in which it is joining two strings together after getting their values from a drop down menu. This has to be done at the time of submission only for the page that's processing the results to have them interpreted the way I want it to. Prior to joining those strings, I would like it check and see if everything is o.k. with the two textboxes by calling the two functions of that check height and width and if they are not, for the alert boxes to come up, for the joining of the strings to not take place, and for the form to not be submitted. However, the fillInvoiceNumber() function is not executing either function at all. If it does work, I would also need to be sure that it is seeing the results of the variables width_not_ok and height_not_ok. Similar TutorialsHi, firstly I apologise if the title of this thread isn't quite accurate. I'm sure you've all heard it before but I am a complete newbie to Javascript so again: apologies if this is boring and tiresome to even read, let alone help with! I have been asked to make some changes to a form that uses Javascript for the form validation. There is a 'function' that contains the variables of the various form fields and then further code to raise 'alerts' if one of the fields on the form hasn't been filled in. My problem is that for some reason I am unable to add an extra variable to this code after the field of 'County' (this will hopefully make sense when you see the code / link...) and I am stumped as to why. I am able to add variables for all of the other required fields except for 'Postcode' after 'County'. This is the case for both forms. The link is he http://samdelara.co.uk/previews/banq...ation-form.htm and the code I am trying edit is below: function checkAvailibility() { // re-calculate... calculate (); if ( isName() && isAddress1() && isTown() && isCounty() && isPostcode() && isYourEmail() && isFuncDate() && somethingToQuoteFor() && isYourEmailValid() ) { document.ordersummary.emailQuote.value = "No"; setValue(); return true; } else { return false; } } function isName() { if (document.ordersummary.Name.value=="") { alert ("\n Please Enter Your Name") document.ordersummary.Name.focus(); return false; } return true; } function isAddress1() { if (document.ordersummary.Address1.value=="") { alert ("\n Please Enter Your Address") document.ordersummary.Address1.focus(); return false; } return true; } function isTown() { if (document.ordersummary.Town.value=="") { alert ("\n Please Enter Your Town") document.ordersummary.Town.focus(); return false; } return true; } function isCounty() { if (document.ordersummary.County.value=="") { alert ("\n Please Enter Your County") document.ordersummary.County.focus(); return false; } return true; } function isPostcode() { if (document.ordersummary.Postcode.value=="") { alert ("\n Please Enter Your Postcode") document.ordersummary.Postcode.focus(); return false; } return true; } function isYourEmail() { if (document.ordersummary.YourEmail.value=="") { alert ("\n Please Enter Your Email") document.ordersummary.YourEmail.focus(); return false; } return true; } function isFuncDate() { if (document.ordersummary.FuncDate.value=="") { alert ("\n Please Enter Your Function Date") document.ordersummary.FuncDate.focus(); return false; } return true; } function isemailonly() { if (document.ordersummary.emailonly.value=="") { alert ("\n Please Enter Your Email Address") document.ordersummary.emailonly.focus(); return false; } return true; } Any help with this would be very much appreciated and once again, I apologise for my distinct lack of knowledge in this area! Sam Im alright with .php but not good at javascript at all. this is the javascript code placed in the head tags of my page function confirmation() { var answer = confirm("Delete news item?") if (answer){ window.location = "main.php?id=delete¬e="+noteID+"&status=delete"; } else{ alert("No action taken") } } this is the .php that links to the javascript function PHP Code: if($this->admin){ echo ' <a href="?id=edit¬e='.$this->noteID.'&status=load" class="grey">[Edit]</a>' .'<a href="" onclick="confirmation('.$row['noteID'].')" class="grey">[Delete]</a>'; } this is the .php code that executes if the url is status=delete PHP Code: // This displays if id = Delete A News & user=ADMIN if( $id == "delete" && $session->isAdmin() ) { echo '<div id="major_game_news_header">'; echo '<h1>DELETION OF NOTE</h1></div>'; $stat = $_GET['status']; if($stat == "preview" && $session->isAdmin() ) { $noteID = $_GET['note']; echo '<div id="createnews">Are you sure? <a href="?id=delete¬e={$noteID}&status=delete">' .'Yes</a>. <a href="main.php">No</a></div>'; } if($stat == "delete" && $session->isAdmin() ) { $note->deleteNote();} } this line in the third code snippet works perfect: " PHP Code: <a href="?id=delete¬e={$noteID}&status=delete">Yes</a> " I'm having great difficulty for the "window.location =...... " to navigate to the right url. It doesn't include the noteID which enables me to delete news items. Any help would be greatly apreciated (: I've been messing with this code for about a couple of hours, and I did everything down to the wire..yet still I am unable to get it to work. When I input the numbers, and click off to the side nothing appears down at the final textarea of the form which is suppose to show the average. I've tried just about everything, sadly all I have to go by is other example codes, and the very intricate instructions which states I must pass the values to the calcAvg() to the second function of performCalc(), which I did, and then I assigned the var calcResult another value. From there I did the return..and after that I'm rather loss as to what to do next to get this code to work, any tips? Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Calculation Average</title> <script type="text/html"> /* <![CDATA[ */ function calcAvg() { var calcResult=document.numbers.number1.value + document.numbers.number2.value +document.numbers.number3.value + document.numbers.number4.value + document.numbers.number5.value } function performCalc() { var calcResult = calcResult / 5 return calcResult; } /* This is what I got so far, as you can see I need plenty of help!*/ </script> </head> <H1> Calculate Average of Numbers</H1> <body> <form action="" name="numbers"> <table> <tr> <td> <tr> <td>Enter the five numbers:<br /> </td></tr> <tr><td> <input type="text" name="number1" size="3" onchange="calcAvg()" text="0" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <input type="text" name="number2" size="3" onchange="calcAvg()" text="0" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <input type="text" name="number3" size="3" onchange="calcAvg()" text="0" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <input type="text" name="number4" size="3" onchange="calcAvg()" text="0" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <input type="text" name="number5" size="3" onchange="calcAvg()" text="0" /></td> </tr> </table> </form> <form action="" name="averageResult"> <p> Estimate average: <input type="text" name="average" size="5" style="border-style: none; border-color: inherit; border-width: medium; background-color: Transparent" text="0" /></p> </form> </body> </html> After following the instructions from the answer below: http://bytes.com/topic/javascript/an...arent-document I was able to have the child window perform the function defined in the parent window. The function was to only have an alert window pop up as the child page was loading. I easily modified this to my intention which was to have a parent function performed when the child window was clicked. Using the body tag: Code: <body onclick="parent.FUNCTION NAME HERE()"> I first change the method in which the function would be triggered, all went well there. then I tried to change which function would be triggered. (Basically use the function I wanted to happen on click of the child window rather then the function from the test). Once I did this switch, nothing happens. The site this is being used on is: http://tylerpanesar.ca/ What I want is when the menu bar is open in the parent window, the user chooses a link and the menu closes and goes to that link in the child window. This already works. However if the user opens the menu bar and then changes there mind and continues with the page the are currently on (clicks any content in the child window), the menu stays open. Currently the menu "hides" only when you choose one of the menu items, but it does not "hide" when you CLICK on child document. If you could figure out how to get it to "hide" on a "mouse out" that would be the better option. I attempted this method however i could only get it to "toggle" the menu on "mouse out". This method does however create an annoying flicker when you hover over the menu items (as it is toggling the open menu command I guess). If I had it "hide" the menu on "mouse out" it would "hide" as soon as you moved off of the main button. The viewer doesn't even have a chance to click a link. or at least that is what happens when I did it. You may have a better method to achieve this. The script that tells it to hide on click is within a jQuery function: Code: menua .click( function(){ menu.hide(); the code I used for the mouseout toggle was: Code: menu .mouseout( function(){ menu.toggle(); Here is the script that I am currently using for the menu to open and the "click" hide feature. This menu feature comes from the following help: http://www.bennadel.com/blog/1740-Bu...-FaceBook-.htm Code: <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(function( $ ){ var menuRoot = $( "#menu-root" ); var menu = $( "#menu" ); var menua = $( "#menu a" ); // Hook up menu root click event. menuRoot .attr( "href", "javascript:void( 0 )" ) .click( function(){ // Toggle the menu display. menu.toggle(); // Blur the link to remove focus. menuRoot.blur(); // Cancel event (and its bubbling). return( false ); } ) ; menua .click( function(){ // Toggle the menu display. menu.hide(); } ) ; // Hook up a click handler on the document so that // we can hide the menu if it is not the target of // the mouse click. $( document ).click( function( event ){ // Check to see if this came from the menu. if ( menu.is( ":visible" ) && !$( event.target ).closest( "#menu" ).size() ){ // The click came outside the menu, so // close the menu. menu.hide(); } } ); }); </script> I've tried adding the click to "hide" menu feature to the child document but there is now menu in that document for it to "hide". What I was trying to was have the child document execute a function from the parent document and have that function executed IN the parent document. I've tried the technique from the link in my very first post but I believe it only calls the function from the parent and executes it IN the child. Which does not work for me as the menu is not in the child. There should be a way to make the child execute a function FOR the parent. I apologize for this very wordy post, but I am extremely frustrated with this now as I have been trying to get this to work for a few weeks now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Tyler Hi Guys, What i'm attempting to do is update a mysql database through a javascript function, so when i click on <a href='onclick="return myfunction();"'></a> PHP Code: function myfunction(affURL) { if (confirm('You will now be redirected to the purchase page, continue?')) { // Need a way to log things, update mysql with vars passed through var l = screen.availWidth / 2 - 450; var t = screen.availHeight / 2 - 320; var win = window.open(affURL, 'payPopupMain', 'width=900,height=650,left='+l+',top='+t+',scrollbars=1'); } else { // Send them back to the payment.php page window.location('payment.php'); } } The code above opens up a browser for the user, but i also want to update mysql without the user seeing any of it, so all they see if the browser popup, and behind the scenes the script updates mysql with a few variables any help on what i would need to do would be appeciated. thanks guys Graham I want to update the variables in the progress bar HTML5 has to offer. Here is the function I have so far (It has been modified and shortened for the means of this post): Code: function calcProgress() { var num1 = Number(document.form.num1.value); var num2 = Number(document.form.num2.value); Number(document.form.progress.value) = num1 Number(document.form.progress.max) = num2; } This is the form: Code: <form name="form"> <input name="num1" onChange="calcProgress()" type="text" value="0" /> / <input name="num2" type="text" value="0" onChange="calcProgress()" size="1"> <br> <progress name="progress" id="progress" min="0" value="0" max=""></progress> </form> Hi everyone. I've managed to create everything to work correctly using javascript on my site, except I'm trying to find a way so that a certain function is called on non-stop. Or at least every time the mouse moves. The site is http://www.goformat.com/ What I'm trying to do is make it so that the words, characters, and lines counter at the top of the text area updates on its own. Right now, it updates onkeyup. However, when you click a button, to say, delete all the letters, they don't update unless you do another onkeyup action. The function that updates the words, characters, and lines is "countall()". so i tried putting a onfocus="countall()" and also a onmouseout="countall()" with one of the buttons, But none of it is working. Is there some kind of javascript code that sets the page to keep performing a function after a set amount of time? Or at least one that will work with the buttons so that the "countall()" function is called on after pushing a button? Thanks you very much everyone for the help, any suggestions are very much appreciated. Hey, I'm attempting to add functuallity to some code and have been having problems getting loops to create variables that are usable. I know the actual programming seems rather redundant as im creating a variable for each div then looping it to create each div, but it is the only way i can get it to work with other parts of the website. So the actual code takes the variables defining the content of each div and uses the loop to actually produce the divs. I am having problems with the + "linkdiv" + x + part of the actual loop. however way i try to define the variable it simply prints the "linkdiv1" or "linkdiv2" ect... rather then referencing the earlier variable that was created and printing "div1". is this even possible in javascript? The whole whing works when i reference a variable directly, just not when i try to use a loop to create the reference for me. If i use a variable directly i get 5 of the same references rather than one of each reference which is not what i want. please note thati define the colour1 and colour2 variables along with the rest of the actual code earlier in the function... Code: var linkdiv1="<p style=\"color:"+ colour1+"\">div1</p>" var linkdiv2="<p style=\"color:"+ colour1+"\">div2</p>" var linkdiv3="<p style=\"color:"+ colour1+"\">div3</p>" var linkdiv4="<p style=\"color:"+ colour1+"\">div4</p>" var linkdiv5="<p style=\"color:"+ colour1+"\">div5</p>" <!-----------------------------------------------------------------> for (x = 1; x <= 5; x++) { document.write("<div style=\""+colour1+"\" id=\"div"+x+"\">" + "linkdiv" + x + "</div>") } feel free to ask for more infomation or more code as im not even sure if this makes enough sense to answer the question. Having troubles writing this in a way thats easily understood as i had to take a lot of code that wasnt relevent out. thanks... Hi, I am quite new to javascript but I'm quite sure this problem is very easy to solve. I have a vague idea of what might be going wrong but I have no idea what I should be doing instead. Here is what I'm trying to do: User inputs X and Y coordinates into form validate that they are numbers do a little bit of maths redirect to a php script with a single variable tacked onto the end of the url Here is the form code: Code: //part of a larger php script to make the form echo "<form name='gotoForm' onsubmit='return coordCalc()'> <fieldset> <legend>Go to Square</legend> X <input type='text' id='X' size='1' maxlength='3'/> Y <input type='text' id='Y' size='1' maxlength='3'/> <input type='submit' value='Go To' /> </fieldset> </form> "; which references these functions in the header: Code: //Is it a number function isNumeric(elem, helperMsg){ var numericExpression = /^[0-9]+$/; if(elem.value.match(numericExpression)){ return true; }else{ alert(helperMsg); elem.focus(); return false; } } //deal with the input, check if they are both numbers with the above function //if they are do some maths on the input //add the result onto a url and redirect function coordCalc (){ var Xcoord = document.getElementById('X'); var Ycoord = document.getElementById('Y'); if(isNumeric(Xcoord, "Please enter a Number for X")){ if(isNumeric(Ycoord, "Please enter a Number for Y")){ //Takes the X and Y coordinates and transforms them into a single number //not fully coded in case you try putting some numbers into the formula btw :) var X = parseInt(document.getElementById('X').value); var Y = parseInt(document.getElementById('Y').value); var G = 16; var Z = (((G + 1) - Y) - Y); var A = (Y + Z); var B = (X - 1); var L = ((A * (G - 1)) + B); window.location = "map.php?start=" + L; } } return false; } The number validation works but the url ends up as map.php?start=NaN. Now, this simply must be the way I am assigning the Xcoord and Ycoord variables with the document.getElementByID() function I am sure. But like I said, I have no idea what to do instead, any help is massively appreciated. Thankyou! I'm new to javascript and have come across what I'm sure its a really easy problem to solve. I want a page with a hyperlink that passes a variable to another 'pop-up' page (in this case a name, its just an example) and new pop-up page prints a message followed by the variable thats passed. Here is the code as it is right now Code: <html> <head> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function popitup(a) { var reply = 'a'; newwindow=window.open('','name','height=200,width=150'); var tmp = newwindow.document; tmp.write('<html><head><title>popup</title>'); tmp.write('</head><body><p>"Hello there" + reply </p>'); tmp.write('<p><a href="javascript:self.close()">close</a> the popup.</p>'); tmp.write('</body></html>'); tmp.close(); } </script> </head> <body> <a href="testpopup.html" onclick="popitup('Toby')" >Link to popup</a> </body> </html> In short, I just want the pop-up page to print 'Hello there Toby' or whatever name I choose to pass across. Any help much appreciated!! The 'testpopup.html' url is just the initial webpage. Forgive but I'm quite a beginner at JS . . . Anyway, on my website I've got a form, and then a script that validates the form. The script for validation is inside a function. The problem is that I have another script outside of the function that generates random numbers to make sure there's not a spambot submitting the form. I set a variable called 'answer' as the correct answer, but for some reason, the variable won't be read when I put it inside the original function to make sure the user got it right. How should I go about doing this? Thanks, Raybob Code: <!-- THIS SCRIPT ENSURES FIELDS ARE FILLED OUT CORRECTLY --> <script type="text/javascript"> var x1 = Math.floor(Math.random()*11); var x2 = Math.floor(Math.random()*11); var ans = x1+x2; </script> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function validate_form ( ) { var valid = true; var at = document.newaccount.email.value.indexOf ("@"); var dot = document.newaccount.email.value.lastIndexOf ("."); if ( document.newaccount.name.value == "" ) { document.getElementById('noname').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } if ( at < 2 || dot < at+2 || dot+2 >= document.newaccount.email.value.length ) { document.getElementById('wrongemail').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } if ( document.newaccount.password.value == "" ) { document.getElementById('nopassword').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } if ( ( document.newaccount.password2.value == "" ) && ( document.newaccount.password.value !== "" ) ) { document.getElementById('nopassword2').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } if ( ( document.newaccount.password.value !== document.newaccount.password2.value ) && ( document.newaccount.password.value !== "" ) && ( document.newaccount.password2.value !== "" ) ) { document.getElementById('nomatch').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } if ( ( document.newaccount.password.value.length < 8 ) && ( document.newaccount.password.value !== "" ) ) { document.getElementById('passwordlength').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } if ( ( document.newaccount.agree[0].checked == false ) && ( document.newaccount.agree[1].checked == false ) ) { document.getElementById('noagree1').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } if ( ( document.newaccount.agree[0].checked == false ) && ( document.newaccount.agree[1].checked == true ) ) { alert ( "Sorry, but you must agree to the terms and conditions before creating an account." ); valid = false; window.location = "/terms.html" } if ( document.newaccount.spamcheck.value == "" ) { document.getElementById('nomath1').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } if ( ( document.newaccount.spamcheck.value !== ans ) && ( document.newaccount.spamcheck.value !== "" ) ) { document.getElementById('nomath2').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } if ( (!document.newaccount.store.checked) && (!document.newaccount.share1.checked) && (!document.newaccount.share2.checked) ) { document.getElementById('noinfo').style.display = 'inline'; valid = false; } return valid; } //--> </script> <!-- END OF SCRIPT --> Code: <form name="newaccount" onsubmit="return validate_form ( );" action="/submitted.html" method="get" > <center> <table style="text-align:center;" ><tr><td> What's <script type="text/javascript"> document.write (x1 + " " + "+" + " " + x2); </script> ? <input type="text" size="5" name="spamcheck" /></td></tr></table> <br /> <br /><br /> <input type="submit" name="send" value="Submit" /> </center> </form> First off I didn't know whether to post this here or in the PHP section since it deals with both, but mostly JS. I have a PHP scraper that scrapes the job title, company name and location from a website and stores them in separate arrays. These values are then extracted out one at a time from the array and stored into a string, that is then passed to a Google Maps API. I can make this successfully happen once, the thing is I need to do it multiple times. I have an idea on what I should do but don't really know how to implement it (correctly). The idea I had was to create a function in the JavaScript section that accepts three values from PHP. This function would be called in my PHP for loop that extracts the values from the array into a string. The thing that confuses me is that the Map function is called via <body onLoad="initialize()">. Here's the link to my code <p> <script type="text/javascript">// <![CDATA[ var metrics = { "mm" : 1, "cm" : 10, "m" : 1000, "inch" : 25.4, "foot" : 304.8 }; function convert(num, dec){ var val = document.getElementById("fromVal").value; if(isNaN(val)){ return } function roundNumber(num, dec) { var result = Math.round( Math.round( num * Math.pow( 10, dec + 1 ) ) / Math.pow( 10, 1 ) ) / Math.pow(10,dec); return result; } document.getElementById("toVal").value = val * metrics[document.getElementById("fromSystem").value]/ metrics[document.getElementById("toSystem").value]; } var interval = null; function watchChanges(){ interval == null ? setInterval("convert()", 500) : clearInterval(interval); } // ]]></script> </p> <table> <tbody> <tr> <td><input id="fromVal" style="width: 100px;" onfocus="watchChanges()" onblur="watchChanges()" type="text" /><select id="fromSystem" onchange="convert()"> <option value="mm">millimeters</option> <option selected="selected" value="cm">centimeters</option> <option value="m">meters</option> <option value="foot">feet</option> <option value="inch">inches</option> </select></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="1" align="center">=</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input id="toVal" style="width: 100px;" type="text" disabled="disabled" /><select id="toSystem" onchange="convert()"> <option value="mm">millimeters</option> <option value="cm">centimeters</option> <option value="m">meters</option> <option selected="selected" value="foot">feet</option> <option value="inch">inches</option> </select></td> I have been working on a site for some time and only yesterday did something happen which wont upload these two images I replaced in my lightbox run through: here is the page: http://newghost.net/GRAPHICS.html The last image wont come up(just a white box) and the five image wont change to the new edited image. I made sure the text and images were all directly linked, the code was checked etc. All I did was replace the images, edited the images. One thing I did notice that was different was it says (run script) : ( Void) or something similar to that at the bottom left corner of the browser on all the images that are working but not on the last.--(??) Is there something I should do with this? its the only clue I have. I have been trying to get some fresher stuff up for a client I referred. Now I am afraid that they won't see the work... sigh...:/ I spent several hours yesterday trying to figure it out... but I wont give up. Is there a problem with my server? Is there some update that threw everything off? I am afraid to update anything more.... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! .... [Edit] I have moved this thread to resolved since it cannot work the way I want it to (couldn't find a delete button). The variable in question is overwritten each time the function is called and there is no way to cache it globally. I will have to figure something else out for this one. Thank you to those that took a look anyway..... Ok, here is what I have. I am trying to fix up a calculator script that I found online to add a bit more intuitive function to it. I want to use this script but it irritates me the way it is. It's a simple enough script, which is why I want to use it, but I want to be able to use keyboard keys with it (instead of clicking buttons. Here's the HTML: Code: <FORM NAME="Calc"> <TABLE BORDER=4> <TR> <TD> <INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="Input" id="Input" Size="26"> <br> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="one" VALUE=" 1 " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += '1'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="two" VALUE=" 2 " OnCLick="Calc.Input.value += '2'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="three" VALUE=" 3 " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += '3'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="plus" VALUE=" + " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += ' + '"> <br> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="four" VALUE=" 4 " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += '4'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="five" VALUE=" 5 " OnCLick="Calc.Input.value += '5'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="six" VALUE=" 6 " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += '6'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="minus" VALUE=" - " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += ' - '"> <br> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="seven" VALUE=" 7 " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += '7'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="eight" VALUE=" 8 " OnCLick="Calc.Input.value += '8'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="nine" VALUE=" 9 " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += '9'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="times" VALUE=" x " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += ' * '"> <br> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="clear" VALUE=" C " OnClick="Calc.Input.value = ''"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="zero" VALUE=" 0 " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += '0'"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="DoIt" VALUE=" = " OnClick="Calc.Input.value = eval(Calc.Input.value)"> <INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="div" VALUE=" / " OnClick="Calc.Input.value += ' / '"> <br> </TD> </TR> </TABLE> </FORM> Now, what I am trying to fix is the fact that the enter key does not "emulate" the "=" sign button. I did some research and got the following KeyCode script: Code: document.onkeyup = KeyCheck; function KeyCheck(e) { if (document.Calc.Input.value != "") { var formVal = document.Calc.Input.value; } var KeyID = (window.event) ? event.keyCode : e.keyCode; if (KeyID == 13) { alert (formVal); document.getElementById("Input").value = eval(formVal); } } The only key I am concerned with is the enter key (code 13) so i figured I could just fire a statement when that key was detected, however my "formVal" variable seems to disappear after the first if statement. The reason for the first if statement is to keep the "fromVal" variable from being overwritten when the enter key is pressed. As it stands now, the alert box and the form input box display "undefined" when the enter key is pressed. What am I missing here? Quote: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> var a = january var b = febuary var c = march function test() { document.getElementById("test").innerHTML=a; <!-- needs to be A on first function click, b on second, c on third, etc..^^--> } </script> </head> <body> <p id="test"></p> <!-- the <p> should go to next month upon each function --> <input type="button" value="asdf" onclick="test()" /> </body> </html> I tried to explain it pretty well in the comment tags, thanks! Hi I am using a .js with 3 functions in it 1st function getPeriod is to extract the index of a selected list item 2nd function getRadios is to get the value from a selected radio button 3rd function calculateAmount uses if statments and follows a course depending on which index was selected from the list item in the 1st functino ie . 0,1,or 2 The problem is that the index value is unidentified in the 3rd function when i try to use it in the if statement, but the value of the radio button, the variable "cigs" works... I want to know how to allow the index value to work in the 3rd function I know this is a very silly problem but I cant spend any more time trying to figure it out ...code below ...Thanks ! [code] var index = 0; var element = ""; var cigs = 0; // get the selected item in the list with id listId function getPeriod(listId){ // find the index of the selected item index = document.getElementById(listId).selectedIndex; // use the index to access the text of the selected item element = document.getElementById(listId).options[index].text; // put the favorite into the text field document.getElementById('period').value=index; return index; } function getRadios(what){ // get the cigs value j=what.cigs.length; //alert(j) for (i=0; i<j; i++){ if(what.cigs[i].checked) cigs = what.cigs[i].value } what.buttons.value = (cigs) return cigs; } function calculateAmount (){ if (index = 0) { total = (8.5 * cigs * 182); } else if ( index = 1 ) { total = (8.5 * cigs * 365); } else if (index = 2) { total = (8.5 * cigs * 730); } document.getElementById('total').value=total; } [code] hi From inside a javascript function i need to execute a vbscript sub routine. You might be thinking why i can't do it in javascript. well i probably can but i am better at VBscript and it would be a lot easier. Thanks edit:: got it to work setting inBooth to false in the function where I clear the menu, but then it's refreshing to div so often while you're standing in the booth (30 frames/sec, it's a game) that nothing happens when you click the buttons to buy/sell unless you click really really fast.... anyone know a good way to check whether something is true, then toggle an innerHTML div, then once the value becomes false, toggle the innerHTML div to empty....??simply?? But if I reverse the order the opposite works but then the other doesn't...... Code: if (condition==true ) { generateSale(); inBooth=true; smithShop(); } else {inBooth=false;clearSale();} //IS PLAYER IN VENDOR BOOTH? if (condition2==true ) { generateSale(); inBooth=true; vendorShop(); } else {inBooth=false;clearSale();} Only the "generateSale()" from the second one executes. If I switch the if blocks, the second one with "generateSale()" executes. If I change "clearSale();" to a "setTimeout=('clearSale()',1000)" then both execute "generateSale()" but the div it affects flickers repeatedly as it's cleared/remade. generateSale() changes the innerHTML of a div, clearSale() just overwrites the innerHTML with ' ' Code: var sales2; function clearSale() { sales2=document.getElementById('sales2'); sales2.innerHTML=''; } function generateSale(){ sales2=document.getElementById('sales2'); sales2.innerHTML= 'Buy/Sell: '+' Gold coins: '+playerInventory[lootArray[7]]+'<br>' +' Consumables:<br>' +'You have: '+playerItems[itemArray[4]] +' arrows<br>' +'<input type="button" value="Buy" onclick="buyIt(0);">'+'10 for 50gp<br>' +'<input type="button" value="Sell" onclick="sellIt(0);">'+'10 for 25gp<br>' } Any ideas? Basically when my character enters the range of an image of a building I have a menu pop up saying you're in a vendor booth. I want it to run generateSale() which changes a div on the screen to list a bunch of stuff you can buy/sell. When your character is no longer standing in range, I want it to clear that information, so you have to be standing within range in order to trade items. Currently I can make it generates the sale menu, but it doesn't clear it when you leave the range. I've tried all kinds of "toggle" variables to set whether you're in range or not, but only the second block fires, not the first and I cannot figure out why... Any ideas? The code all works fine it just won't clear for all the different buildings, only one.... |
