JavaScript - I Want To Add Values From 5 Drop Down Boxes
Hi guys, i'm trying to develop a code for my sister, i would like to use javascript
to finish off the following task: 1. I want to be able to select marks from 0 to 30, from 5 drop down boxes. 2. and as marks are selected, it should upgrade the total. 3. and then show me the total marks when finished. i've got up to creating the drop down boxes, now it's just adding the values once selected. Thanks! anyhelp would be welcome Similar TutorialsHello, I have a drop down box, which display an images. It is also saved through a cookie on what option you leave it on. Is there a way you can make it so there are several drop downs on the same page that will also display images corresponding to the option chosen? Here's a live example: www.cirula.com/options here is my coding Code: <script language="javascript"> function linkrotate(which){ var mylinks=new Array() //add in more links if you want (ie:mylinks[3]=...) mylinks[0]="http://www.google.com" mylinks[1]="http://www.ebay.com" mylinks[2]="http://www.yahoo.com" window.location=mylinks[which] } function showimage() { if (!document.images) return document.images.pictures.src= document.mygallery.picture.options[document.mygallery.picture.selectedIndex].value } </script> </head> <body onLoad="setDefaultValues()"> <div align="center"> <form name="mygallery"> <p><select name="picture" onChange="showimage(); setCookie(this.name,this.selectedIndex)" size="1"> <option value="http://www.cirula.com/images/google.png">Google</option> <option value="http://www.cirula.com/images/ebay.png">Ebay</option> <option value="http://www.cirula.com/images/yahoo.png">Yahoo</option> </select></p> </form> <p align="center"><a href="javascript:linkrotate(document.mygallery.picture.selectedIndex)" onMouseover="window.status='';return true"><img src="http://www.cirula.com/images/google.png" name="pictures" width="150" height="150" border=0></a> Hello, I am extremely new to JS so please bear with me. Any help is very much appreciated. Currently I am trying to take the values of 2 or more select boxes, add them together and then update a text field each time a selection in one of the select boxes is made. Basically, I am trying to keep a running total. Currently I have it set up so that onchange it grabs the selected value. The problem is that it is being processed as a string I believe. For instance, if there are two variables, a=111 and b=222, the output in the text field reads 111222. I tried using parseInt, but that just returns NaN (not a number?...just a guess). I have seen this solved with if statements, grabbing the selected index # and then assigning an integer, but I am hoping there is an easier way. Again, your help is appreciated. I am doing a website project and I am currently designing product page. I have created the text boxes dynamically(as many boxes as the user wants) and he can drag and drop the text boxes in the page. I need to create a dynamic line from one text boxes to other text boxes and delete the test boxes which the user does not want. I have created the dynamic graphic line. I know the values of the text boxes can be saved using php in the backend. But is there any way the values with the dynamically created boxes(with <div></div> elements, not with the text boxes) with values and graphics line can be saved online and the user when log-in again can retrieve the work that he saved? Can we code this either in javascript/php? I am working on a job calculator. I have 2 txt input boxes titled "project_rate_field" and "project_time_field" as well as a third box .. "project_pay_total_field" for output.. I need to multiply the rate field and the time field and output the total into the third box. I've never really used javascript before so I dont know much about it or how to write it but im trying to learn. Here is my .js file ... Code: function project_pay_details() { var rate = document.getElementById("project_rate_field").value; var time = document.getElementById("project_time_field").value; var total = (rate * time); project_pay_total_field.value = "$" + total; } And here is my .html file Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" href="functions.js" /> <style> .wrap { float: right; } #project_pay { float: left; margin-right: 15px; line-height: 38px; font: 10px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #bbb; } #project_pay_details { border-top: 1px dotted #ddd; padding-bottom: 10px; margin-top: 10px; float: right; width: 100%; } .field { border: none; line-height: 38px; font: 20px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #666; width: 100px; font-weight: bold; margin-top: 6px; } </style> </head> <body> <form id="project_pay_details" name="form1" method="post" action="" class="editable"> <div class="wrap"> <div id="project_pay">Pay Rate<input type="text" name="project_rate_field" id="project_rate_field" class="field" value="10" />/ hr</div> <div id="project_pay">Total Hours<input type="text" name="project_time_field" id="project_time_field" class="field" value="0" /></div> <div id="project_pay">Project Total<input type="text" name="project_pay_total_field" id="project_pay_total_field" class="field" readonly="readonly" value="0" /></div> <input name="project_pay_details_refresh" type="button" value="Refresh" onClick="project_pay_details()" /></input> </div> </form> </body> </html> I need to know what im doing wrong because this obviously doesnt work. Hello, I'm working on a project that involves extracting values from a series of select boxes and then working out the result. The select boxes contain the following: Code: <select name="select_Col1_Row1"> <option value="blue">Blue</option> <option value="green">Green</option> <option value="red>Red</option> </select> <select name="select_Col1_Row2"> <option value="blue" selected="selected">Blue</option> <option value="green">Green</option> <option value="red>Red</option> </select> <input type="text" name="RedSum"> <input type="text" name="BlueSum"> <input type="text" name="GreenSum"> </select> As you can see by my code, I'm early days at this and guessing the steps on the way. I tried using getElementsByTagName on the select and then on the option but had no luck with that. The code below does a wonderful job of returning blue for both select statements... Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function getElements() { var table = document.getElementById("x"); var x = table.getElementsByTagName("option"); for (var i = 0; i < x.length; i++) { var status = x[i].getAttribute("selected"); alert(status); if (status == "selected") { var statushcap = x[i].getAttribute("id"); var statusvalue =x[i].getAttribute("value"); if (statusvalue == "blue") { alert(statusvalue); } } } alert(x.length); } </script> If someone could suggest some way to map the select tag and then extract its option value to being the user selected value, I'd most appreciate it. I can probably do the rest of it. Can you extract additional information from the id of the option that is selected as I'd like to sum additional information from the user's choice. Best, John Hi, I'm having trouble with trying to access a selected value of a drop down menu in a table. I have menus in columns 3 and 4, named cred and grade respectively, from rows 2 onwards, and I'm using a function to access them. How do I access the value's for manipulating other variables? Here is what I have so far: Code: function f(tableID){ var len = document.getElementById(tableID).rows.length; for(var i = 1; i<len; i++){ var c = document.getElementById(tableID).rows[i].cells[2].childNodes[0]; credits = c.options[c.selectedIndex].text; } } Your help would be really appreciated Hey, so I'm a complete javascript newbie and am trying to create a drop down menu with four different boxes. The site I'm working on is basically an ecommerce site, so I'll use cars as a good example for what I want to do. Let's say that I'm selling cars and want to target the buyer directly, then I would have the following boxes, each one serving as a dependent of the one before it: 1. Pick the brand (BMW, Mercedes, Etc.) 2. Pick the type of car (Sports car, SUV, Mini Van, etc.) 3. Pick the color (blue, green, etc.) 4. Pick the price ($0-$19,999/$19,999-29,999/etc.) So far I have the first two boxes down by using the following site: http://www.supertom.com/menugen/. Now my problem is that the site only allows for the first two boxes to be made, and says that "the values in box1 are static and printed directly as normal HTML. The corresponding box2 options will also be copied into the HTML as well as the javascript for full functionality." Being a complete newbie, I have no idea what this means. So I decided to search the internet for an answer and was not able to find one, thus leading me here, which from the looks of it seems like a great forum. If anyone could tell me how to connect a third and fourth box that falls into the same hierarchy as the first and the second then I would appreciate. Really THANK YOU, and I'm really looking forward to reading your replies!! -Bobby Hi all, I'm very new to Javascript and wonder if someone can help me. I'm creating an online enrolment form for my company, who are a training company. Users enrolling on the course must make three choices - The level of course, the size of course and whether they wish to attend a workshop or study by distance learning. The combination of these three factors will determine the price. I'd like to have the price automatically calculated using javascript and displayed on the form before they submit. Can anyone give me an idea of how to do this? There are three drop down boxes for users to select their course. They a - Level of Qualification: Level 3 Level 4 Level 5 Level 6 Scale of Qualification: Award Certificate Diploma Preferred Delivery Method Workshop Distance Learning Each possible combination of these will affect the price. So for instance, if the user were to select 'Level 4', 'Certificate' and 'Workshop' the price would be calculated based on these three options. How can I calculate the ultimate price and then display it on the page (I was thinking of using innerHTML in a 'span' element to display the final value, but if anyone has any better ideas I'd be glad to hear them) The HTML code for the drop down boxes is below: Code: <form action="enrolment.php" method="post"> <select name="level" class="input" id="level"> <option value="chooselevel"></option> <option value="Level 3">Level 3</option> <option value="Level 4">Level 4</option> <option value="Level 5">Level 5</option> <option value="Level 6">Level 6</option> </select> <select name="size" class="input" id="size"> <option value="choosesize"></option> <option value="Award">Award</option> <option value="Certificate">Certificate</option> <option value="Diploma">Diploma</option> </select> <select name="delivery" class="input" id="deliv"> <option value="deliverymethod"></option> <option value="Workshop">Workshop</option> <option value="Distance Learning">Distance Learning</option> </select> </form> Thanks all, hope someone here can help! Regards Chris *EDIT: I should mention that the form is also inside a table - Not sure if that will make a difference. hi, i am currently working on aptana stuidio Nokia WRT to create a mobile widget. the projects requires the retrieval of data from a database. I've created a java servlet in eclipse to connect and execute query to the database. In aptana, i'm using js file and html file. i am able to connect to the servlet, process the data (split it) and store in an array to display the retrieved data on screen. But now i am facing problems to put the retrieved data (array) into a drop down list for selection. can i do it in a js file? thanks =) Hi, I doing my project in Netbeans, and I have this .java page, that sets and gets a html form where there are textboxes and drop down lists, as far as I know, although getElementById() is a javascript code, it can be used in my .java page, but I do not know how to implement it. What I'm supposed to do is to get the values from the drop down list and save them to a database that I've already have. Code: HtmlPage page = null; page.getElementById(id); but because I do not know what should the id be since the .java page is not a jsp page and the drop down list values cannot be retrieved directly. Need help here, thanks. I have the following code working with the checkbox options but once I added a drop down menu with values, it doesn't calculate it. I've done some different things to try to add the drop down to the function but nothing would work that I've tried so far. I have it setup so when a box is unchecked, that option is taken off the price, the drop down should do the same to switch between the options price. Thanks for the help! This is my first thread. I'm completely new to javascript. I want to use dreamweaver with javascript to do a litter project in which I want to move value "Saleman" from drop-menu 1 and value "Billy" from drop-down 2 to a list box. The result should be as follows: dropdown 1 Manager Salesman (to be selected) Cleaner dropdown 2 Billy (to be selected) Susan Ivan --- [Add button] Listbox Salesman - Billy Thank you for your help. Cheers Raymond I wish to get the values for the 3rd and 4th cell of each row where these contain drop down menus. I've tried various ways but my code doesn't seem to iterate through rows of a table. I can get the values for the first row, but not the rest. There's isn't a fixed row size for the table as the user will be able to add and delete them. I've put the values in separate arrays but instead of the array containing say [10, 20] it contains [10, 10] as it just duplicates the first row's values. Here's my code that I have so far: Code: function calculate(){ var len = document.getElementById(arguments[1]).rows.length; var cMenus = []; var gMenus= []; for(var j = 1; j<len; j++){ for(var i = 2; i<arguments.length; i++){ var c = document.getElementById(arguments[2]); var g = document.getElementById(arguments[3]); cMenus[a] = c.options[c.selectedIndex].value; gMenus[a] = g.options[g.selectedIndex].value; } a++; } <button type="button" onclick="calculate('text','course', 'credits', 'grade')">Calculate</button> HTML Code up to the first dropdown menu: Code: <table id="course" summary="add/remove course details" width="350px" border="1"> <tr> <td><input type="checkbox" name="tick"/></td> <td><input type="text"/></td> <td> <select name="credits" id="credits"> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="20">20</option> </select> </td> </td> <select name=.... I've tried adding j to the arguments or putting it in "[]" but nothing seems to work. I don't think the platform I'm using supports jquery, so help would be really appreciated for using javascript, thanks. [This is an updated question from my previous thread as I was unable to edit or delete my question] I tried implementing a cleaner approach to a web form I had created, but it doesn't seem to be passing the values to the server properly. What gives? This form on the left and right work perfectly, but they have two ridiculously long drop down lists, which would be the "ProgramOfInterest" fields (please use the following values preselected in this form) http://www.nationalcollegesearch.org..._pingpost.html On this form, I tried creating a triple drop down list setup to clean up the older, long lists in this example, but it doesn't pass the values properly. It also seems to not duplicate the new drop down triple drop lists properly as in the original form. You can change the values in the drop downs in the forms to see what I mean. Also just pick Bachelor's > B_Business > Business Administration in the triple drop downs for an example since I don't know how to preselect those values. http://nationalcollegesearch.org/Integrate/PleaseHelpMeWithMyCode/integrate_pingpost_experiment.html Please let me know if there is anything I can do to pass the correct values to the server. Thanks! P.S. Please note that I have disabled the form on the right and intentionally left the action empty. I have set up drag and drop with HTML5 and it is working, but I need to be able to get the values of the images uploaded to the database when each one is dropped into a dropzone. I don't need to upload the images to the database - just need the value of each image sent to it. Here is the HTML: Code: <ul id="images"> <li><a id="1" draggable="true"><img src="images/1.jpg" value = "flower"></a></li> <li><a id="2" draggable="true"><img src="images/2.jpg" value = "boy"></a></li> <li><a id="3" draggable="true"><img src="images/3.jpg" value = "girl"></a></li> </ul> <form name = "objects" id="form" action = "form.php" method = "post"> <div class="drop_zones"> <div class="drop_zone" id="drop_zone1" droppable="true" type = "text" name = "drop_zone1"> </div> <div class="drop_zone" id="drop_zone2" droppable="true" type = "text" name = "drop_zone2"> </div> <div class="drop_zone" id="drop_zone3" droppable="true" type = "text" type = "file" name = "drop_zone3"> </div> </div> and the javascript Code: var addEvent = (function () { if (document.addEventListener) { return function (el, type, fn) { if (el && el.nodeName || el === window) { el.addEventListener(type, fn, false); } else if (el && el.length) { for (var i = 0; i < el.length; i++) { addEvent(el[i], type, fn); } } }; } else { return function (el, type, fn) { if (el && el.nodeName || el === window) { el.attachEvent('on' + type, function () { return fn.call(el, window.event); }); } else if (el && el.length) { for (var i = 0; i < el.length; i++) { addEvent(el[i], type, fn); } } }; } })(); var dragItems; updateDataTransfer(); var dropAreas = document.querySelectorAll('[droppable=true]'); function cancel(e) { if (e.preventDefault) { e.preventDefault(); } return false; } function updateDataTransfer() { dragItems = document.querySelectorAll('[draggable=true]'); for (var i = 0; i < dragItems.length; i++) { addEvent(dragItems[i], 'dragstart', function (event) { event.dataTransfer.setData('obj_id', this.id); return false; }); } } addEvent(dropAreas, 'dragover', function (event) { if (event.preventDefault) event.preventDefault(); this.style.borderColor = "#000"; return false; }); addEvent(dropAreas, 'dragleave', function (event) { if (event.preventDefault) event.preventDefault(); this.style.borderColor = "#ccc"; return false; }); addEvent(dropAreas, 'dragenter', cancel); // drop event handler addEvent(dropAreas, 'drop', function (event) { if (event.preventDefault) event.preventDefault(); // get dropped object var iObj = event.dataTransfer.getData('obj_id'); var oldObj = document.getElementById(iObj); // get its image src var oldSrc = oldObj.childNodes[0].src; oldObj.className += 'hidden'; var oldThis = this; setTimeout(function() { oldObj.parentNode.removeChild(oldObj); // remove object from DOM // add similar object in another place oldThis.innerHTML += '<a id="'+iObj+'" draggable="true"><img src="'+oldSrc+'" /> </a>'; // and update event handlers updateDataTransfer(); // little customization oldThis.style.borderColor = "#ccc"; }, 500); return false; }); and the php PHP Code: <?php $sql="INSERT INTO table_answers (drop_zone1, drop_zone2, drop_zone3) VALUES ('$_POST[drop_zone1]','$_POST[drop_zone2]','$_POST[drop_zone3]')"; if (!mysql_query($sql,$db)) { die('Error: ' . mysql_error()); } echo $_POST["drop_zone1"]; echo $_POST["drop_zone2"]; echo $_POST["drop_zone3"]; ?> There is no error, it is not registering that there is something in the dropzone - nothing is being sent through the php. I have tried doing it with just text(instead of the image) and that won't work either. I am unsure of how to target the value of each image through javascript/php. Please help if you can, Thanks I have the perfect form for a client - but its missing one thing. She sells hair clips in various colors. A user can select a hair clip color and quantity quite easily (as seen in the code below). My issue is that she wants to be able to give the user a 'special price' based on the quantity ordered by the user. Contrary to simply adding the default price of $7 over and over again based on the quantity selected. To Reiterate The way I want it to work... 1 clip is $7 2 clips are $12 3 clips are $22 5 clips are....etc. ...however, with the way that the javascript is set up now I'm only able to select one default price. This means that whatever quantity is selected -- it's simply multiplied by the number 7 to provide a total. 1 clip is $7 2 clips are $14 3 clips are $21 5 clips are....etc. If some kind soul can give their advice or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. How to process textbox values/ call textbox values in JS through a Java program. My text box values are dates. I have to process these dates. Like in online banking we select day to know our transactions. After submitting we get results. remember my files are in my directory only. No need of database. The objective of the code/function is to map user-inputted strings into a pair of specific, hard-coded strings. For example, say the user types "firefox" or "ff", or "fx". The output would be the pair ["browser", "mozilla"], for example. I'm currently using a multidimensional array, but it feels inefficient and I'm having trouble mapping an arbitrary number of inputs into 2 outputs. Code: var strings = [ ["input1", "output1a"], ["input2", "output1a"], ["input3", "output1a"], ["input1", "output1b"], ["input2", "output1b"], ["input3", "output1b"] ]; How should I map the elements ["input1", "input2", "input3"] => ["output1a", "output1b"] ? Another method I used previously was a massive switch statement. This fulfills my needs, but I'm not sure about the efficiency (though if I remember correctly, switch statements become more efficient as size grows, since it uses a hash table?). Code: switch (input) { case "ff": case "firefox": case "fx" : case "ffox": return ["browser", "mozilla"]; case "ie": case "internet explorer": return ["browser", "microsoft"]; ... } |
