JavaScript - Highlighting Selected Text Using Javascript

Alright, I'm using a Rooh.It WordPress plugin right now, but I don't like the way they do it, so I want to write my own code to do something similar.

I want the user to be able to select the text they want to highlight, and the background color of that text changes to whatever color they have selected.

How can I do this in JavaScript?

I have a textarea where user can select a text then copy to clipboard (using EditArea script for highlighting)
I need append additional information to the selected text so it won't be visible in the textarea, but only appear after copied to clipboard.
For example:

user selected word "two", hit CTRL+C to copy into clipboard (or used browser's context menu), but in clipboard it should be saved as: "selected word 'two'"

I retrieve a list of links from a database using ajax, then I assign them to the innerHTML property of a div whose display property is set to "none" Then I set the display property to "display" to get a drop-down listbox.

The problem is the links in the list are all hilighted like they've been dragged over by a mouse.

How do I prevent these links from highlighting?

I have a select box with a few options.
When the page loads I need to get the selected option in this select box and alert its inner text.

Yet everything I try out on the net that should work wont work in IE, all other browser its fine.

Please can someone show me the TRUE and correct way to get the inner text of a option from a select box in IE?

I searched about this problem over Internet and found the same result many times, I found this example on stack overflow but this example didn't work in my project; I am making a toolbar with buttons that insert HTML tags around the selected text in a <textarea>, this exemple didn't work because when the user click on a button the selected text won't be selected anymore because <textarea> loses focus and selected text will be unselected, I am targeting Firefox and compatible browsers so you don't need to give me the IE code; jQuery codes are accepted; so, have you any idea?

I'm taking a beginning javascript class and have been trying to figure out one last part of a homework assignment and am just not seeing how to work it out. Any help is greatly appreciated!

What I'm having trouble with is doing the text verification. When a user selects an option from the select list they then need to type in the text area given. If the user doesn't type the word selected in the list then an error message should appear under the text area. If you look at my code you'll see that I have the text_check() function doing the verification. I can get it to work when there is only one option but once I add the other two it stops working. I've tried if... else and other variations, but can't seem to nail it down. Thanks!

I have tried on many forums, mayby here I will find answer.

I have many divs with spans inside(just like it is below-no extra ids,classes for spans:/).

What I would like to achieve: user selects with mouse "ab", click button(input type=button) which remove style from selected span/spans. Similar behavior like it is in TinyMCE.

Here is my validation script from dreamweaver i also have it in php for server side. But I trying to get a checkbox to make a text field required when you select it. Right now I have it so when you hit submit whether the text field is filled out or whether the checkbox is selected or not the error message comes up no matter what i do please help.

I'm not that familiar with classic ASP or Javascript but need to change an exisiting program to do the following:

Add a link to a page but only for certain marketers.

I have a classic ASP page that has a couple of hyperlinks for each marketer that is selected from a combobox drop down. The new hyperlink is to be added but only for select marketers. The rest don't even get to see this new hyperlink.

I added a function in Javascript as such:

I want to be able to check the fuction for each marketer and if return is TRUE, then produce the hyperlink which will open a data file if clicked.

Can someone help? I'm not sure how to use the <%IF statement in conjunction with a javascript function that checks for a return value, and based on that return value, does some action.

i'm working with a city select option, a hotel select option & an iframe. the hotel select option is populated depending on the chosen city which then updates the iframe src. this is all working fine.

the trouble im having is that when the page is refreshed, normal f5 way, the hotel option changes whereas the city option & the iframe src remains the same??

this problem does not occur on a force refresh via control + f5 as then both select options & iframe src revert to their original state.

I don't want the city option to change upon a normal page refresh. how do I go about this?

what can be the reasons for the same code which works perfectly in notepad to not show its result in a jsp application done using eclipse??anything to do with settings?
I am not able to display the current date as default in dd/mm/yyyy format in drop down boxes..only dd and yyyy apears but month isnt apearing as default..

As of right now I have a code that will work in IE but wont work in FireFox...go figure. Basically what I want to have happen is when you type in an area code it will provide an output in a predetermined area of the page.

For Example:

Input- 512

Output - Austin, TX

The code that I have doesn't work with firefox and I was just wondering if there was a code that would allow that to happen. Thanks!
