JavaScript - Escaping Chars > Workflow Question
Hello All,
Just a general question about the normal workflow in a professional development environment... This may not have a concrete answer, but just curious if there is an established protocol... Does a front end programmer usually receive strings escaped or does he/she have to process the strings themselves before sending them to functions? Thanks for any thoughts... Happy Holidays. Similar TutorialsI am trying to make a very simple form so a user can enter some text then be redirected to a page that uses that text in the URL. So far I have this working using window.open but the ? and & in the URL show up as & # 0 3 8 ; here is the code in the body; Code: .mydomain.com but for some reason that goes to the URL mydomain.com/portal/cart.php & # 0 3 8 ; =add & # 0 3 8 ; pid=15 & # 0 3 8 ; domainoption=subdomain & # 0 3 8 ; sld=XXXXXXXX when using firfox, ie7 works fine hi, I would like to change my validation page so that a user cannot use special characters in the form, here is my code below Code: jQuery("#full_name").validate({ expression: "if (VAL) return true; else return false;", message: "Please enter your name" }); jQuery("#name").validate({ expression: "if (VAL.match(/^[^\\W][a-zA-Z\\_\\-\\.]+([a-zA-Z\\_\\-\\.]+)*\\@[a-zA-Z0-9_]+(\\.[a-zA-Z0-9_]+)*\\.[a-zA-Z]{2,4}$/)) return true; else return false;", message: "Please enter your name" }); All, If I want to do the following: Code: result="
Home
The site idea is pretty simple. There are creeps everywhere and we want to point them out. Killing time during work or school never hurt anyone either. Help us out and give your friends something to enjoy. Make sure to submit your Test"; How can I escape the URL because after that I want to do: Code: document.getElementById('showdata').innerHTML = result; Hi I have downloaded the code to allow special html characters in be replaced with the actual code so it does not cause problem when the text is submitted into the database. For example '>' to be replaced with '>' So for a string ' 3 > 2' I expect to be replaced with '3 > 2; in the text box. However it does not work. I put in the alert statements and it shows that the js function is being invoked, but after the function is done, the special characters in the text box remain the same. Can someone help?

   Data 1

I've got this bit of code that I've wrote and it was working absolutely fine like this: Code: function validatepostcode() { var postcodevalue = document.getElementById("postcode").value; if (postcodevalue.indexOf("S") == -1) { alert(postcodevalue + " is not a valid postcode."); } } Until I tried to add double quotes: Code: function validatepostcode() { var postcodevalue = document.getElementById("postcode").value; if (postcodevalue.indexOf("S") == -1) { alert( \" postcodevalue \" + " is not a valid postcode."); } } What I want to do is wrap the value of "postcodevalue" in double quotes, and since it's inside an alert, I used the escape sequence \", which is how it should be done as far as I know. But for some reason, Dreamweaver's giving me a syntax error warning and the code doesn't work. Am I using the double quotes wrong? Regards, Hashim. Hi I want to pass a strings from JS client to PHP server and vice versa. Problem is that I can't find a simple method of escaping them that gives consistent results. I've tried escape, unescape, urlencode and urldecode, but there are problems with some characters eg + From what I've read, JSON is the most reliable way to do this. I've figured out how to use json_encode to get a php string to a javascript variable, but I can't go the other way. How do I get the JSON string that represents a javascript object? At first, it looks correct, but if you hover back over the menu, it changes back to the inactive state. Any help would be great! Thanks. You are given a mathematical expression containing integers and the basic operations: *,+,-, /. Find the number of unique results that can be obtained by parenthesizing the expression differently. i.e., by changing the order of evaluation of the operations. Note that all operations are integer operations. For example, if the input is 2 ∗ 3 + 6/2, your output should be 4. Plzz help me with this qs......... I'm not sure about what function(s) to call to achieve this, can anyone give me any ideas to go on? here's what i have so far use my JavaScript Function called LoadFromDisk(FileName), if the file is there or the load is sucessfull, it can be stored as a variable. Thanks for looking Hello The onFocus events I have come across seem to deal with changing the background colour of the field on a Web form, so that the active field is a different colour to the background field of the other form elements. But how would I use onFocus simply to have the cursor moving in the active field (on a Web form it might be the 'name' field for example)? Like is it possible to put some php into a javascript function that runs when I click the button on my page? Something like that? The PHP updates the MySQL database and the JavaScript tells the PHP when to happen? Just wondering what's the best way to go about that. Hi there! I'm creating a map that starts at the users location, has multiple locations marked out (that are fetched from JSON), tells if the person is withing a 100m range of the location and shows an overlay when a location is clicked on. Is this even possible? (doesn't feel like it atm ) and if it's possible, which parts of google's api do I use? If anyone has far to much spare time and feels like showing me how to do 1/2 of these things I would be extremley grateful, but I don't expect that. Cheers.
