JavaScript - Javascript To Extract Info From Textbox
Hi,
I currently have a asp.NET page which has a textbox with the ID: "txtbox1" I would like javascript to store the data entered into txtbox1 into a var. I have tried using var jVarName; jVarName = '<%#aVarName%>'; but so far it hasnt worked. Any suggestions would be appreciated ^^ Similar TutorialsI have a page where a user can enter info into a text box named (usertext). Below the box I have a link that takes the user to another page. This page is just a test page for proof of concept. I am wondering if there is a way that I can dynamically populate a variable located within the url of my link. The info that will populate the variable will be whatever the user types into the text box. For example my link will be <a href="nextpage.cfm?textvariable='#usertext#'> So when the user clicks this link, it goes to the next page already populated by the value of the info the user typed into the text box. I am thinking javascript will be involved, but I am not really sure. I am using coldfusion 8. Hello. I've been teaching myself HTML and CSS for a while, and now I've moved into the world of Javascript (but I'm still very much a beginner). For practice, I've been building a sample sign up form for a mock website, and I'm having problems with the birthdate section. The idea I had was to have MM, DD, and YYYY be the default values of my 3 textboxes (as an example for users), then set the value to nothing when the box gained focus. That all works fine, but I ran into problems when I tried to write an if statement to set the value back to MM, DD, or YYYY if the value was still nothing when the user clicked away. As it is now it just replaces the text inputted into the textbox (which of course is not good). Any ideas for what the problem might be? Code: <form name="signup" action="javascript:void(0);" method="post"> <table> <tr> <td>Date Of Birth:</td> <td> <input name="DOBmonth" type="text" value="MM" size="2" style="color: #555555;" onFocus="clearDOBmonth()" onBlur="restoreDOBmonth()" /> <input name="DOBday" type="text" value="DD" size="2" style="color: #555555;" onFocus="clearDOBday()" /> <input name="DOByear" type="text" value="YYYY" size="4" style="color: #555555;" onFocus="clearDOByear()" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td></td> <td><button name="Submit" type="submit" style="font-size: 1em;">Sign Up</button></td> </tr> </table> </form> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> <!-- document.signup.DOBmonth.value="MM"; document.signup.DOBday.value="DD"; document.signup.DOByear.value="YYYY"; function clearDOBmonth() { document.signup.DOBmonth.value="";} function clearDOBday() { document.signup.DOBday.value="";} function clearDOByear() { document.signup.DOByear.value="";} function restoreDOBmonth() { if ('document.signup.DOBmonth.value = ""') { document.signup.DOBmonth.value = "MM"; // alert(document.signup.DOBmonth.value); } } //--> </script> Another side question, if I set a variable equal to the value of a textbox, then change the value of the variable, does that also change the value of the textbox? or is the variable no longer associated with the textbox. Example: Code: var a = document.form.textbox.value; a = blue; does document.form.textbox.value = blue? or is var a now completely independent of the textbox value? Thanks! Why do I get both the greedy and non-greedy? How do I extract "somestring" only? I'm on IE7. thanks Code: <script type="text/javascript"> var x = "(EVAL)(H:somestring)Some other Text here"; var full =(x.match(/\(H\:(.*?)\)/g)); // produces "(H:somestring)" as expected alert(full); var inside = (x.match(/\(H\:(.*)\)/)); // produces "(H:somestring),somestring" .. I only want "somestring" alert(inside); </script> Hello guys, Is there any way I can get the number of 'CPBucks' from this piece of HTML, It's currently at 1 but it will change. Code: <div class="user-info"> <img src="http://illiweb.com/fa/punbb/online.png" id="i_icon_online" alt="Online" title="Online"><br> <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="color:##66666;">Posts</span>: </span>2<br> <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="color:##66666;">CPBucks</span>: </span>1<br> <span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="color:##66666;">Join date</span>: </span>2011-10-11<br> </div> Thanks Hi everyone! Firstly, im a beginner in Javascript, totally noobie. Much why this is posted! I have found this site: http://www.forswor.com/index.php/data-apis/ And I want to use this to post the server status on my forum/website. How exactly do I do that? I know there are examples and such and I have read and read on that page but I cannot figure out how to do this. I cant just paste: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.forswor.com/forswor_services/prod/serverwidget/getSWTORStatusjs.php"> </script> How would I get this to show the information of say for example Bloodworthy server and in text? I tried adding the line document.write(forswor_server_name);, but didnt show up anything - stupid as I am obviously I have no clue what im doing. I can manage html\css and some php but this is new for me, hehe. Thank you so much for reading an idiots post! Most regards, me. I have an asp.net textbox. I need to use javascript so that there are no postbacks. I would like to click the button and the textbox height kept increases each time the user clicks the button. So far I can toggle: function resize(){ var textbox = $get('<%=txtWhoTo.ClientID %>'); textbox.style.height = textbox.style.height == '56px' ? '23px' : '56px'; } I would like to increase the height 56px each time the clicks the button. Hi all, I want to display varying company information from a javascript array randomly each time the page is refreshed. My problem is that the each piece of company information must be split up into 3-4 array elements since I have set up spans in the body where the information go accordingly and as such I don't how to randomize that. The relevant code is (I will only give two company examples as it's a long list): Code: <script type="text/javascript" language='javascript'> function compInfo(comp){ var companyInfo = new Array(); if(comp == document.getElementById('test').innerHTML) { //insert business name here. companyInfo[0] = 'Test'; //insert business type here. companyInfo[1] = 'Media'; //insert street name here. companyInfo[2] = 'Test Road.'; //insert actual opening time here. companyInfo[3] = '5am - 10pm'; //insert actual closing time here. companyInfo[4] = 'Christmas'; //insert contact info here. companyInfo[5] = 'test'; //insert web address here. companyInfo[6] = '<a href="http://www.test.com" style="color: #0092DD; text-decoration: none;">test.com</a>'; //insert image link here. companyInfo[7] = 'images/test.jpg'; } if(comp == document.getElementById('test1').innerHTML) { //insert business name here. companyInfo [0] = 'Test1'; //insert business type here. companyInfo [1] = 'Club'; //insert street name here. companyInfo[2] = 'Test1 Road.'; //insert actual opening time here. companyInfo[3] = '5am - 10pm'; //insert actual closing time here. companyInfo[4] = 'Christmas'; //insert contact info here. companyInfo[5] = 'test1'; //insert web address here. companyInfo[6] = '<a href="http://www.test1.com" style="color: #0092DD; text-decoration: none;">test1.com</a>'; //insert image link here. companyInfo[7] = 'images/test1.jpg'; } document.getElementById('title').innerHTML =companyInfo[0]; document.getElementById('name').innerHTML = companyInfo[1]; document.getElementById('street').innerHTML = companyInfo[2]; document.getElementById('open').innerHTML = 'Open'; document.getElementById('otime').innerHTML = companyInfo[3]; document.getElementById('close').innerHTML = 'Closed' document.getElementById('ctime').innerHTML = companyInfo[4]; document.getElementById('contact').innerHTML = 'Contact'; document.getElementById('cinfo').innerHTML = companyInfo[5]; document.getElementById('web').innerHTML = companyInfo[6]; document.getElementById('image').style.display = 'block'; document.getElementById('image').src = companyInfo[7]; } </script> </head> <body> <SPAN ID='test' onclick="compInfo(document.getElementById('test').innerHTML);"><b>Test</b></SPAN> <SPAN ID='test1' onclick="compInfo(document.getElementById('test1').innerHTML);"><b>Test1</b></SPAN> //info shown he <div style='text-overflow: ellipsis;'> <table cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' border='0' style='height:178px; width:185px;'> <tr> <td align="left" style='height:25px;'> <b><SPAN ID='title' ></SPAN></b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="left" > <SPAN ID='name' ></SPAN> <br /> <SPAN ID='street'></SPAN> <div style='height:8px;'> </div> <SPAN ID='open'></SPAN> <br /> <SPAN ID='otime'></SPAN> <br /> <SPAN ID='close'></SPAN> <br /> <SPAN ID='ctime'></SPAN> <br /> <div style='height:8px;'> </div> <SPAN ID='contact'></SPAN> <br /> <SPAN ID='cinfo'></SPAN> <SPAN ID='web'></SPAN> <img ID='image' style='display:none;'></img> </td> </tr> </table> </div> </body> So essentially the process is: 1. The person clicks on the company name. 2. Relevant information from the array is shown in the div. But what I want is that on startup, information about a random company is shown automatically. How can I achieve this? Thanks. I have used the PHP Calculator thanks to "ralph l mayo" and it is exactly what I'm in need of BUT the problem is now when I put it into my html doc in Dreamweaver CS4 and preview in IE everything below the calculation is gone / blank / disappeared. What is the story...PLEASE PLEASE HELP
hello, I have a textbox in my .net page, and totally new to java script. How do i get a script that will count the data being written in the text box to show increments of 100 and write the value to the bottom of the textbox. e.g. When u get to 100, at the bottom it says "1st hundred" ... and to 200 it writes "2nd hundred" UP to 500 ??? Please help thanks hi, i have a javascript code of autosugesstion.i had got it from internet. it works fine, but the problem whenever i type a word.. and then press enter it automatically takes the closest autosugessted word from the list ...for example 1.the list contains the word "an apple"..so when ever i type "app" in the textbox and then press enter ..it takes the word "an apple" from the autosugessted list . example 2..if i type "king"..and then press enter it automatically takes "kingdom".. actually i am looking for this solution : it should only take the word from autosugesstion list if selected from arrow key or mouse other wise it should take word from textbox which is typed by user hence can any one solve it ? kindly have a look at attachement. thanks in advance I have a php script which dynamically creates a table containing text boxes with variable names. Example: Code: echo '<td align="center" bgcolor="'.$bgcolor.'"><input type="text" name="payable_'.$key.'" id="payable_'.$key.'" value="'.$payable.'" size="3" maxlength="4" /></td> '; In the above instance the text box name might be 'payable_23323'. I need to code an onKeyUp event which sends the text box name to a function, and in that function I need to retrieve the text box name and the string after 'payable_' together with the value the user has input into the text box. Any help is greatly appreciated . . . I have been Googling this for hours to no avail - probably because I don't know what to search for . . . Thanks Store Information to multiple textboxes from database Code: $count=<mysql_num_rows($query1); for($i=0;$i<mysql_num_rows($query1);$i++) { $row1=mysql_fetch_array($query1); $getval[$i]=$row1[UserId]; Print "<input type=text name='txtbox[]' id='txtbox[]' value='.$getval[$i].'">; } then i call a javascript function Print "<script language=javascript>Call_Fun($count)</script>"; The above code store data into textbox and call the js function in .js file Code: function Call_Fun(count) { for(var i=0;i<count;i++) { alert(document.getElementbyId('txtbox')+i.value); } } But it doesn't retreive values in .js Thankyou all Hello, I'd like to write some javascript code which will check to see if the contents of a textbox are equal to some value after the user leaves the textbox. they should get a message saying Correct or Incorrect . As an example: Code: <td>-2</td> <td><input name="ans1" type="text" size="3" maxlength="3" /></td> </tr> < The correct answer here would be 5 > <tr> <td>-1</td> <td><input name="ans1" type="text" size="3" maxlength="3" /></td> < The correct answer here would be 4> And, I don't wish to abuse the forum, but as I'm learning javascript and jquery, I'd like to see solutions to both (I learn by example), so I'm posting the same question in the jquery forum with a request for a jquery solution; I hope that this isn't bad form! Thank you..... Hello I was at the javascriptkit.com and was to use one of there Javascript calenders in my web page the "Popup Date Picker" and the "Date Time Picker". I have the calenders working fine and after the date is selected it fills in the correct textbox with the date. The problem is after the user selects the date in the calender popup window I would like it to run another javascript function. But I cannot see in the calender code how to have it call my javascript code. I also tried the OnChange event with the Textbox that the Calenders are filling in with the date but it only fires when I click in the textbox. I call the Calenders JavaScript functions from my JavaScript script function that is tied to an aspropDownList OnChange Event. Is there any way I can have these calenders call a javascript function when the date is selected in there window? Or could I try to catch when the textbox is filled in with the date and call my function then? Thanks Mike Hi, Im new to javascript so thankyou in advance for reading this! Im trying to create a video gallery, with thumbnails below a main content div, which when clicked display the relevant video in the said div. This isn't a problem and I have managed to do this... However, I also need to display descriptive text (different for every video) in a seperate div, and the first video also needs to autoplay when the page is loaded (rather than waiting until the user requests a video by clicking a thumbnail) I've made an example of where Im at so far and its viewable here... http://www.phixfilm.com/video_thumbn...ideo_test.html The div 'a few lines of info about vid here' is currently just static but this is what i need to change each time a different video is requested by the user (sorry if thats obvious but just in case its not clear) I will be using .movs but I've embedded youtube for now although I don't think that makes any difference... Im presuming it will be a case of having text that is hidden until the thumbnail is clicked...? Which I guess I could do with css but that way seems a little clumsy, I really am a newbie to javascript so a helping hand in the right direction would be very much appreciated. THANKYOU! ps- an example of something similar to what Im trying to achieve is here... http://somesuchandco.com/#670098/Nathalie-Canguilhem Hello folks, I have a content form. It has a textbox and a checkbox control (both are asp server controls and not HTML controls). When the user checks on the checkbox control, the textbox control has to become invisible. If unchecked the textbox control has to become visible. The following code works on a regular webform (meaning not as a content form). toggleVisibility is the function name that does the actual work. I am guessing I am not passing the textbox control ID properly to toggleVisibility function. Can someone guide me please? Following is the code: Code: <asp:TextBox ID="TextBoxPeriod" runat="server" Width="97px"></asp:TextBox> <asp:CheckBox ID="CheckBoxFromArchive" runat="server" Visible="true" Onclick="toggleVisibility('<%=TextBoxPeriod.ClientID %>');" /> function toggleVisibility(controlId) { var control = document.getElementById(controlId); if (control.style.visibility == "visible" || control.style.visibility == "") { control.style.visibility = "hidden"; } else { control.style.visibility = "visible"; } } Hello, Can you someone point me to the right script? I have a text box and would like to see if the value of the input matches the values defined in a JavaScript array. For example, the JavaScript array will hold five values: v1 = Tom v2 = Jerry v3 = Michael v4 = Stephanie v5 = Michelle If the text box does not equal one of those values, an alert will pop up stating it does not match. Thanks. Below is the code. My function: Code: function swap_content(id1,id2) { var tmp = document.getElementById(id1).name; var theval = document.getElementsByName('primary_propertyp_id')[0].value; document.getElementById(id1).name = document.getElementsByName('primary_propertyp_id')[0].name; document.getElementsByName('primary_propertyp_id')[0].name = tmp; document.getElementById(id2).id = document.getElementById('primary').id; document.getElementById('primary').id = 'addressid_'+theval+'_div'; } Applicable Code for primary info: Code: <div id="primary"> <label>primary to secondary:</label><input name="primary_propertyp_id" type="text" id="addressid_<? echo $row['primary_property_id']; ?>" value="<? echo $row['primary_property_id']; ?>"/> </div> Applicable Code for secondary info/link to change: Code: echo "<div id=\"addressid_" . $properties_row['id'] . "_div\">"; echo "<a href=\"#\" onclick=\"swap_content('addressid_" . $properties_row['id'] . "','addressid_" . $properties_row['id'] . "_div'); return false\">Make Primary</a>"; echo "<input id=\"addressid_" . $properties_row['id'] . "\" name=\"addressids[]\" value=\"" . $properties_row['id'] . "\" type=\"text\">"; echo "</div>"; This is running through a PHP loop so it's making multiple divs and links for the secondaries. I am wanting to be able to swap out any of them to make them 'primary'....this works for the first click, but after the first click it makes every div id and input name the same as the first that was clicked. It's also not working AT all if i click on the bottom link first, then a link above it. Top-down works, bottom-up doesn't...Please help Thanks in advance, Jeremy Hi.. I have form and i want to input data using barcode and it will display on textbox and after input on the first textbox the focus will go to next textbox untill it will go on the last textbox and on the last textbox it will automatically save the data's on the database.
