JavaScript - Calling A External Script Question
I have two pages one html page and one Javascript page index.html and script.js. I want to call the javascript page 3 times to display 3 images.
How would I do this from my html page. script.js Code: <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- /* Random Image Link Script By Website Abstraction (http://www.wsabstract.com) and Java-scripts.net (http://www.java-scripts.net) */ function random_imglink(){ var myimages=new Array() //specify random images below. You can have as many as you wish myimages[1]="http://flashmajic.com/Google/atomica/atomicasmallicon.jpg" myimages[2]="http://flashmajic.com/Google/atomica/atomicasmallicon.jpg" myimages[3]="http://flashmajic.com/Google/atomica/atomicasmallicon.jpg" //specify corresponding links below var imagelinks=new Array() imagelinks[1]="http://www.wsabstract.com" imagelinks[2]="http://www.dynamicdrive.com" imagelinks[3]="http://www.java-scripts.net" var ry=Math.floor(Math.random()*myimages.length) if (ry==0) ry=1 document.write('<a href='+'"'+imagelinks[ry]+'"'+'><img src="'+myimages[ry]+'" border=2 hspace=1></a>') } random_imglink() //--> </script> index.html Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> ????? How would I call that script 3 times to display 3 random images? </body> </html> Similar TutorialsOn my site I'm using an external (big) javascript file, in this external file there is a function with the following line in it: Code: function showslide(){ return(currentSlide); } In my main html file the external javascript file is loaded within the head section. This external file does a lot of other stuff besides returning a number. Now here is my problem.. Somewhere in my html file I need to call the showslide function. I tried doing that with this: Code: <script language ="Javascript" src="upload/3weg_slider.js"> document.write(showslide()); </script> But it doesn't return anything, when I place an alert line within the function it doesn't show up either. What am I doing wrong here? Can I clean up the header section on some of my pages by putting all the javascript stuff in another page, and then using a server side script to assemble the header? If so how do I do this? For example all my pages have the following in the header: <script type="text/javascript" src="css/csshorizontalmenu.js"></script> I want to have this in a seperate file and call with SSI but it doesnt work when I use something like the following: <?php require_once('navigation.php'); ?> Thanks for any help. Hi there I am wondering if anyone can tell me the best way to access the functions of an Iframe from the parent of the frame. I have tried Code: var myFrame = document.getElementById('gigmap'); myFrame.flashMouseover(gid); and Code: window.frames['gigmap'].document.flashMouseover(gid); though these didn't work. Basically this is what i want: Mainpage function a(id) receives flash variable 'id' then sends variable 'number' to iframe function b(id) . The part in red is where I have the problem. In case you are wondering what I am doing is sending an id of a gig in my database when its button rolled over in a flash swf to a Google Map (using Google maps javascript API inside the Iframe 'gigmap) and make the corresponding marker on the map jump. I have it so the iframed map markers send to the flash file on rollover though not the other way round...yet! I have to call the script below from my html page. How would I do that? Do I need to modify the script at all? Put in a function that returns the random title to the html page? New to javascript any help woudl be apreciated. html page that calls the script Code: <html> <head> <script type='text/javascript' src='titles.js'></script> <script> document.title = rantitle[ranNumber]; </script> </head> titles.js Code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> <!--// if (parseInt(navigator.appVersion) >= 4) { var num = 3; var rantitle = new Array(num+1); rantitle[1] = "Random Title1"; rantitle[2] = "Random Title1"; rantitle[3] = "Random Title1"; ranNumber = parseInt(num * Math.random() + 1); document.title = rantitle[ranNumber]; } //--> </script> I have 2 pages, If in test.php i include test2.php everything is working perfect, but if the page appear the script is not working. Im trying to create a video gallery, with thumbnails below a main content div, which when clicked display the relevant video in the said div. This isn't a problem and I have managed to do this... However, I also need to display descriptive text (different for every video) in a seperate div, and the first video also needs to autoplay when the page is loaded (rather than waiting until the user requests a video by clicking a thumbnail) I've made an example of where Im at so far and its viewable here... http://www.phixfilm.com/video_thumbn...ideo_test.html The div 'a few lines of info about vid here' is currently just static but this is what i need to change each time a different video is requested by the user (sorry if thats obvious but just in case its not clear) I will be using .movs but I've embedded youtube for now although I don't think that makes any difference... Im presuming it will be a case of having text that is hidden until the thumbnail is clicked...? Which I guess I could do with css but that way seems a little clumsy, I really am a newbie to javascript so a helping hand in the right direction would be very much appreciated. THANKYOU! ps- an example of something similar to what Im trying to achieve is here... http://somesuchandco.com/#670098/Nathalie-Canguilhem I'm trying to program/modify a simple countdown timer in a .js file. I was able to get it to work when I just loaded the index.html file straight from my computer to my browser but it failed once uploaded. Here was the code for my index.html file. Code: <script type="text/javascript" src="countDown2.js"></script> <body> <b id='itgoeshere'>timer should go here</b> <script language ="Javascript"> window.onload = cd() </script> </body> and here is my code for my .js file Code: var days var hours var mins var secs; function cd() { var today = new Date() var eventDate = new Date(2012,0,28,19,19,70) difference = eventDate.getTime() - today.getTime() days = Math.floor(difference / (1000*60*60*24)) difference = difference - days * (1000*60*60*24) hours = Math.floor(difference / (1000*60*60)) difference = difference - hours * (1000*60*60) mins = Math.floor(difference / (1000*60)) difference = difference - mins * (1000*60) secs = Math.floor(difference / (1000)) redo(); } function dis(days, hours, mins, secs) { var disp; disp = days + ":" + hours + ":" + mins + ":" + secs; return(disp); } function redo() { secs--; if(secs == -1) { secs = 59; mins--; if (mins == -1) { mins = 59; hours--; if (hours == -1){ hours = 23; days--;}} } document.getElementById('itgoeshere').innerHTML = dis(days, hours, mins, secs); if((days == 0) && (hours == 0) && (mins == 0) && (secs == 0)) { window.alert("Chris is running."); // change timeout message as required } else { cd = setTimeout("redo()",1000); } } function init() { cd(); } window.onload = init; If I were to just cut and paste my .js code between my <script> it works but I was hopping to use it over again on multiple pages and having only one file to update. Also I'm very new at programming in general so if you see an obvious mistake not related to my question please let me know. If multiple pages reference the same external JS sheet, does the sheet reload every time you go to a new page or does it stay in memory?
What im trying to do is to dynamically call an external javascript file. The script once called will provide variables for another function. I have tried using this function PHP Code: function loadjscssfile(filename, filetype){ if (filetype=="js"){ //if filename is a external JavaScript file var fileref=document.createElement('script') fileref.setAttribute("type","text/javascript") fileref.setAttribute("src", filename) } else if (filetype=="css"){ //if filename is an external CSS file var fileref=document.createElement("link") fileref.setAttribute("rel", "stylesheet") fileref.setAttribute("type", "text/css") fileref.setAttribute("href", filename) } if (typeof fileref!="undefined") document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(fileref) } loadjscssfile("myscript.js", "js") //dynamically load and add this .js file loadjscssfile("javascript.php", "js") //dynamically load "javascript.php" as a J which works. The problem is that variables can not be passed through from the external script to the parent script. I understand why this is, but i am wondering if there are other ways to load (or refresh) an external script? I'm working on some code to create hover text that follows the mouse. Now, the code works fine when the javascript is included on the page: (internal script) http://cory.wellen.googlepages.com/hovertest2.html However, when I try to move the code out to an external script, it doesn't work. I've tried looking all over to see what the problem is, but 99% of those with external script problems have errors in syntax or location of the source script. Please help! (javascript) http://cory.wellen.googlepages.com/hover.js (external script) http://cory.wellen.googlepages.com/h..._external.html Hey guys. So right now I'm able to execute javascript code on my website without the use of <script> tags. Example: <body onload=alert("cool");></body> What I want to be able to do is insert an external javascript file located at another website using JavaScript code (not script tags). How can this be done? Thanks I have the following code: Quote: <form id="registration" action="/cgi-bin/registration.cgi" method="POST" onsubmit="return control()"> <fieldset> <legend>Fill up this module</legend> Private <input id="private" type="radio" name="type" value="private" onclick="return addPrivate()"/><br/> Community/Organization <input id="organization" type="radio" name="type" onclick="alert('Organization')"/><br/> <br/> and the following script: Quote: addPrivate() { alert('Private'); } but alert windows doesn't not appear. Where is the problem? Hi I'm trying to load a part of a page (that has script in it) into another page using jquery. However, though the html loads in correctly, none of the script is working. I'm using code from http://css-tricks.com/video-screenca...namic-content/ ie. the pages all work without java (static pages) and when java is enabled, instead of going to bio.html you get taken to ..#bio.html. However if I've got any script I would like to be loaded .. ie. lightbox gallery or even a simple jav split and put back together email address hider. Any help greatly appreciated. I'm not very clued up about jquery at the moment unfortunately and though I've been trying to read and learn, alot is going over my head.. Not sure how best it is to show you the page as it's not live yet. Maybe if it helps I can upload a zip of the site. It's a simple 6 page musician site. Though my code is exactly like the css-tricks page, just that I have a lightbox on one page (which loads fine if there's no hash in the address - but when hash is there, it shows thumbnails, and when you click one, it just takes you to the larger .jpg destination page (no lightboxness etc).) Thanks I have the following JavaScript (see below). The script requests an XML file from the server and displays it on the page. The script works fine when the requested XML file is stored on the same server as the script. The problem is when I try requesting an XML file from an external server such as the National Weather Service. I get an error. If I take the XML file from the National Weather Service and save it to my server it works. Why can't I use my script to request XML files stored on external servers? Thanks in advance for any help. So here is my question... is there a small snippet of java script I can use in the source page or iframe that will automatically fill in the Sponsoring Distributor ID:, while at the same time, blocking the input from being changed and also block the 'I don't have a sponsor' radio button? That's it! Thank you, you magicians of code. Respectfully, StealthMarketer Hi all, I have finished a program for an assigment the varibles num1,num2,num3,num4 are the final result of the calulation that i needed to preform. I can document.write these no problem. I just read the assigment and I have to create an unordered list with bullets from the results The only way i could think of doing it was to create variables so I can enter them in the list, can I do that? [var num1 =("You were born on a " + weekday[usersInputDate.getDay()]+'.','<br />'); var num2 =("You are "+(ageofUser.toFixed(2))+ " years old.<br />"); var num3 =("You are "+(usersAgeinDays.toFixed(0))+" days old.<br />"); var num4=("You have lived "+(usersExLife.toFixed(0))+" % of an average lifespan.<br />"); <ul> <li> ('num1') </li> <li> ('num2') </li> <li> ('num3') </li> <li> ('num4') </li> </ul>] How do i write this to the screen as [<li> num1 </li>] doesnt work neither does [<li> 'num1'</li>]. Does the <ul> function only read the string entered or can it run the variable assigment ? Thanks all Shayne Darcy. Hi, I'm doing some freelance for a guy and I need to make a script. I wrote a script that starts an action as soon as a file enters PS. The script needs to initiate an action as soon as 5 files enter photoshop. The files enter one by one and when the fifth one enters I want the script to start an action. I already have the action written. The coding for the script needs to be in javascript. If someone could help me write this script it would be very appreciated. Thanks, James Hey everybody. I have this code that disables right clicking on a page. It works fine, but I'd like to tweak it a little bit if possible. When trying to right click on a page, the script will pop up an alert message. If you try right clicking a second time, you receive an option to disable the alert message. I want to disable this option so that the alert pops up every single time, but I have no idea how to actually do this. Can anybody help me out? Thanks. Code: <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> var message="ALERT MESSAGE"; function click(e) { if (document.all) { if (event.button==1||event.button==2) { alert(message); return false; } } else { if (e.button==1||e.button==2) { e.preventDefault(); e.stopPropagation(); alert(message); return false; } } } if (document.all){ document.onmousedown=click; } else{ document.onclick=click; } </script> |
