JavaScript - Update Value Of Hidden Input Element On Textarea Onchange?
I have an idea for a little script.....I'm just stuck on one little part: When a user changes the value in a input or textarea box, I want it to change the value of a certain hidden input tag too.
Here's what I have so far: function getNewValue(inputhidden, textinput) { var data = document.getElementById(inputhidden); var text = document.getElementById(textinput); data.value = text.value; } <input type= "text" name= "name" id= "name" onChange="getNewValue('detail', 'name')"> <input type= "hidden" name= "detail" id="detail" value= ""> However, this is not working and I'm not sure why Similar TutorialsHi, How do I detect change event on textarea using javascript? And yes, I've even tried using the "defer" method. Hello, I'm working on a quote generator and I'm running into an issue with onChange events not firing when a text field is dynamically populated via a child window. Here's my setup: I have 3 text boxes (quantity, price, markup) that are multiplied together in order to give the total of that product. Each text box has an onChange event [called calculator()] that calls an external javascript file, which handles the multiplication and instantly updates the total of that product. Up to this point, everything works fine - - when I manually edit any of the 3 inputs, the total updates correctly. However, my problem is that I now have the "price" text box being dynamically populated, and when it updates it is not firing the onChange event attached to it. The text box is being filled by way of launching a child window and running the following code within it: Code: function call_submit() { opener.document.quote_form.item_price_1.value=document.child.prods.options[document.child.prods.selectedIndex].id self.close(); } I've also tried to call the calculator function from within the child window, with no luck: Code: function call_submit() { opener.document.estimator_form.item_price_1.value=document.child.prods.options[document.child.prods.selectedIndex].id calculator () self.close(); } So, as of right now, the following is happening - - I launch the child window, I select the product to add to the quote, the child window closes and the price is correctly populates within the "price" text box, BUT the total stays at zero. If I manually edit any of the fields, it then catches back up and properly updates the total. Is their any way to fire the onChange event at the time when the text field is populated from the child window? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. The simplified code below works, and should give you an idea of what Im trying to achieve. The final version will have dozens of input fields so you can see why the below method stinks Code: <html><head><title>Values</title> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function getid() { var myNum = document.frm1.field1.value; if(myNum == "A"){ document.frm1.field2.value = "1" } else if(myNum == "B"){ document.frm1.field2.value = "2" } else { document.frm1.field2.value = "" } var myNum2 = document.frm1.field3.value; if(myNum2 == "A"){ document.frm1.field4.value = "1" } else if(myNum2 == "B"){ document.frm1.field4.value = "2" } else { document.frm1.field4.value = "" } } //--> </script> </head><body> <form name="frm1" id="frm1"> <input type="text" size="40" name="field1" id="field1" onChange="JavaScript:getid();" /><input type="text" size="4" id="field2" name="field2" /> <br> <input type="text" size="40" name="field3" id="field3" onChange="JavaScript:getid();" /><input type="text" size="4" id="field4" name="field4" /> <br> </form> </body> </html> Each text input will have A or B written in by the user, which should automatically place that letters associated ID in its partner field. If any other letter is entered the ID will automatically be left blank. With the above code I'd need to repeat it over and over for each of the dozens of input fields. The final version wont be using simply A/B either but around 50 possible inputs each with their own ID which would make around 1000 possible variations. What am I missing here that will simplify the process? Thanks Hello, On a simple form, there is a radio button group with two radio buttons, a text box, and a submit button. The first radio button is checked(selected) by default. The text box input has the onChange event handler so that if the text is changed, the second radio button will be checked(selected). The problem is the input radio name contains a hyphen that breaks the JavaScript and the name can not be changed. What is the correct syntax for referencing a hyphenated form input radio name in the onChange event? Here is the form that works correctly with no hyphen in the input radio name: Code: <form name="myFormGood" action="" onsubmit="return false;"> Good Form with no hyphen in radio button name<br> <input name="radio1" type="radio" value="4" checked> First Option<br> <input name="radio1" type="radio" value="5"> Second Option<br><br> Change the text to select the Second Option<br> <input type="text" name="text1" onChange="document.myFormGood.radio1[1].checked = 'true';" size="10" value=" "><br><br> <input type="button" name="submit" value="It Works!"> </form> Here is the form that breaks the JavaScript because it has a hyphen in the input radio name: Code: <form name="myFormBad" action="" onsubmit="return false;"> Bad Form with hyphen in radio button name breaks JavaScript<br> <input name="radio-1" type="radio" value="4" checked> First Option<br> <input name="radio-1" type="radio" value="5"> Second Option<br><br> Change the text to select the Second Option. Nothing Happens.<br> <input type="text" name="text1" onChange="document.myFormBad.radio-1[1].checked = 'true';" size="10" value=" "><br><br> <input type="button" name="submit" value="It Doesn't Work!"> </form> I have a script where I move randomly users from one multiple selectfield to another and that part works perfectly, but... When I want to submit the form I don't get any users passed along, course they are not "selected". I have then read around on the net and I need to create an elemet with a hidden input field where all the randomly selected users is inserted to with comma separation, but dont know how?!?! This is what I got: Code: function randomusers(){ var given = 3, used = {}, randnum, opts = $('#select1 option'), olen = opts.length; function ran() { // generate a unique random number randnum = Math.floor(Math.random() * olen); return used['u'+randnum] ? ran() : randnum; } for (var i = 0; i < given; i++) { // get the correct quantity of randoms used['u'+ran()] = true; } opts.filter(function(index) { // remove all options that are not one of the randoms return !!used['u'+index]; }).appendTo('#select2'); } I have tryied to insert this: appendTo('#select2' + '<input type="hidden" name="test[]" value="" />'); but that didn't seem right... Please help :-) Hi I have a form with some input tags, and when the user submit the form I which if a new hidden tag get submitted with the value the user did tip. I am thinking for doing that but not sure if it is the right thing : Code: <form method="POST" <input type="text" name="{actionForm.Name}" id="username"> <input type="password" name="{actionForm.Passwd}" id="password"> <input type="hidden" name="usernameh" value="document.getElementById('username')"> <input type="hidden" name="passwordh" value="document.getElementById('password')"> </form> Is it alright ? I mean when the user enter the username and password, the hidden tags should contain those two values that the user has made. so I am creating a silly word ;irate word interpreter page, and I need some logic behind how to add text to a textarea each time I click on a button. Each time the user clicks on the button, the value is inserted into the text area. You should be able to click on multiple buttons to add to the last text that appears. Then I have a delete translation button when I want to clear the textarea field. A good example would be if the user clicks on the button with the value "sir", than "matey" will appear in the textarea. Now, if the user clicks on the button with the value "your", then "yer" will come up after matey. It's like creating a sentence on your own, and then deleting it when your done. I have a PHP based calendar where the cells will change color depending on the number of clicks.. this all works fine, but is pointless if I can't send the outcome along in an email. I can do this with PHP but first need to get the values into a hidden field. This is what I have: Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function countClicks (obj){ if (!obj.count) { obj.count = 0; } obj.count++; if (obj.count > 4) {obj.count = 1}; if(obj.count == 1){ obj.style.color='#FFFFFF'; obj.style.backgroundColor='#66CC33'; obj.parentNode.style.backgroundColor='#66CC33'; document.getElementById("availability").value='Available'; } if (obj.count == 2){ obj.style.color='#FFFFFF'; obj.style.backgroundColor='#FF0000'; obj.parentNode.style.backgroundColor='#FF0000'; document.getElementById("availability").value='Not Available'; } if (obj.count == 3){ obj.style.color='#FFFFFF'; obj.style.backgroundColor='#FFCC33'; obj.parentNode.style.backgroundColor='#FFCC33'; document.getElementById("availability").value='Working'; } if (obj.count == 4){ obj.style.color='#000000'; obj.style.backgroundColor='#FFFFFF'; obj.parentNode.style.backgroundColor='#FFFFFF'; document.getElementById("availability").value='Not Set'; } } </script> and... Code: echo "<input type=\"hidden\" name=\"availability\" id=\"availability\" value=\"\">"; All I'm trying to do is populate value with either 'available', 'not available', 'working' or 'not set'... however, it is worth noting that each cell may have a different value, e.g. 1 cell might be working while the other is not available... so i need to pass the values of all the cells. Hi All, I'm using the following code to (try to) update the style of an element in javascript. As you'll no doubt gather from the code, I'm trying to edit the opacity of the element. This code executes fine in FF, Opera and Chrome. However, Internet explorer keeps responding with 'style is null or not an object'. Basically, I don't think it's returning the correct element from the DOM, or, for that matter, any element. To add some more specific guidance, on the homepage I call launch_randomise() in the onload method, which, after 5 seconds, calls randomise_bottom_images() which calls itself and the bottom image regeneration function every 5 seconds, ensuring the images are regenerated every five seconds. Regenerating the bottom images is a three-step process: 1, fade out, 2 switch innerHTML, 3, fade back in. My functions for altering the opacity or innerHTML quite obviously rely on being able to talk about a DOM object, I know no other way of achieving this. I tried straight out getElementById but this doesn't seem to work in IE8, fine in FF, Op, GC. So, after much googling I replaced getElementById(string) with my own getElement(string). However, this still doesn't work. Any thoughts? Any help would be much appreciated!! Here is my code so far Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <title>Test</title> </head> <body> <form name = "form1"> <br> Type your HTML code below: <br> <textarea name = "userInput" cols = "70" rows = "30"></textarea> <br> <input type = "button" value = "Preview" name = "preview" onclick = "write2new()"> <input type = "button" value = "Close Preview" name = "closePreview" onclick = "w.close()"> </form> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript"> <!-- function write2new() { var t = document.form1.userInput.value; var w = open(""); w.document.write(t); w.document.close(); } //--> </script> </body> </html> Javascript (inside a function that everything works except this bit): Code: var uploadedfile = "upload" + ups; document.getElementById(uploadedfile).value= file; The input element its not changing: Code: <input type="text" name="upload[]" id="upload1"/> There are four additional input elements, one for each possible fileupload, they will be set to hidden but in order to see if it was submitting the name I set it to text. Here is the live page so you can see it: http://www.sandcrawler.net/forum/sandnet.php?page=test2 What this is for is an upload script, I have all the upload bit working, but now I need to find a way to pass the filename to my php script, that will then sort the files out into two types, screenshot and compressed. Then insert them into a mysql database. I've gotten this same type of thing to work on a w3school TryIt demo, with the variables set the same way. So I can't figure out where there is an error. Opera isn't giving me one. I can post more code if needed. Thanks The following code works find in firefox and chrome. In IE, it only works the first time I click on a link. Any ideas? Thanks in advance, // I have some div's where help is, which I make non-viewable <div id='help_guides'> <div id='issue1'>Help with issue 1</div> <div id='issue2'>Help with issue 2</div> </div> <a href="#" id="issue_1_link">Help with issue #1</a> <a href="#" id="issue_2_link">Help with issue #2</a> <div id='help'></div> // I grab the help guide div into a variable var issue_1_help = $('issue_1').remove(); var issue_2_help = $('issue_2').remove(); // When the help link is clicked, the help DIV displays the help guide Event.observe( $('issue_1_link'), 'click', function() { $('help').update( issue_1_help ); }); Event.observe( $('issue_2_link'), 'click', function() { $('help').update( issue_2_help ); }); In fact: does input type=image belong to the form's elements collection, in ECMAScript ? It looks like not. When traversing the form's elements collection with classical javascript (document.forms[formname].elements), an input type="image" is not included. Is this an inheritance from old browsers interpretors? Does anyone know the reason for this omission? I'm creating a page that calculates a number depending on what value is inputted into a text field. I need to create some javascript that updates this new calculated value and outputs it next to the input field. Anytime the user changes the number, it recalculates the value. My calculation is currently being produced by PHP, however if I need to, I can create javascript as well to recalculate these numbers. My formulas for all 4 calculations are as follows: First: Inputted Value * 10 Second: Inputted Value * 20 Third: Inputted Value / 2 Fourth: Inputted Value * 2 Here is my code I'm working with: PHP Code: <?php session_start(); $username = $_SESSION['username']; include_once('inc/connect.php'); $credquery = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM userstats WHERE username='$username'"); $row = mysql_fetch_assoc($credquery); $credits = $row['credits']; $bannercredits = $row['bannercredits']; $textcredits = $row['textcredits']; $sitetobanner = $_POST['sitetobanner']; $sitetotext = $_POST['sitetotext']; $bannertotext = $_POST['bannertotext']; $texttobanner = $_POST['texttobanner']; if (isset($sitetobanner)){ $bannerimp = round($_POST['bannerimp']); if ($bannerimp > 1){ $s = "s"; } if ($bannerimp <= $credits){ $newcredits = $credits - $bannerimp; $newbannercredits = $bannerimp * 10; $totalbannercredits = $bannercredits + $newbannercredits; $updatebanner = mysql_query("UPDATE userstats SET credits='$newcredits', bannercredits='$totalbannercredits' WHERE username='$username'"); $credits = $row['credits']; $bannercredits = $row['bannercredits']; $textcredits = $row['textcredits']; $convertedbanner = "You converted ".$bannerimp." credit".$s." into ".$newbannercredits." banner impressions"; } else{ if ($credits>1){ $mycredits = $credits - 1;} $errorbanner = number_format($mycredits, 0, '.', ''); } } if (isset($sitetotext)){ $textimp = round($_POST['textimp']); if ($textimp > 1){ $s = "s"; } if ($textimp <= $credits){ $newcredits = $credits - $textimp; $newtextcredits = $textimp * 20; $totaltextcredits = $textcredits + $newtextcredits; $updatebanner = mysql_query("UPDATE userstats SET credits='$newcredits', textcredits='$totaltextcredits' WHERE username='$username'"); $credits = $row['credits']; $bannercredits = $row['bannercredits']; $textcredits = $row['textcredits']; $convertedtext = "You converted ".$textimp." credit".$s." into ".$newtextcredits." text ad impressions"; } else{ if ($credits>1){ $mycredits = $credits - 1;} $errortext = number_format($mycredits, 0, '.', ''); } } if (isset($texttobanner)){ $texttobannerimp = round($_POST['texttobannerimp']); if ($texttobannerimp > 1){ $s = "s"; } if ($texttobannerimp <= $textcredits){ if ($texttobannerimp>=2&&$texttobannerimp>""){ $newcredits = $textcredits - $texttobannerimp; $newbannercredits = $texttobannerimp / 2; $totalbannercredits = $bannercredits + $newbannercredits; $updatebanner = mysql_query("UPDATE userstats SET textcredits='$newcredits', bannercredits='$totalbannercredits' WHERE username='$username'"); $credits = $row['credits']; $bannercredits = $row['bannercredits']; $textcredits = $row['textcredits']; $convertedtextimp = "You converted ".$texttobannerimp." text ad impression".$s." into ".$newbannercredits." banner impressions"; } else{ $convertedtextimp = "You Hag"; } } else{ if ($textcredits>1){ $mycredits = $textcredits - 1;} $errortextimp = number_format($mycredits, 0, '.', ''); } } if (isset($bannertotext)){ $bannertotextimp = round($_POST['bannertotextimp']); if ($bannertotextimp > 1){ $s = "s"; } if ($bannertotextimp <= $bannercredits){ $newcredits = $bannercredits - $bannertotextimp; $newtextcredits = $bannertotextimp * 2; $totaltextcredits = $textcredits + $newtextcredits; $updatebanner = mysql_query("UPDATE userstats SET bannercredits='$newcredits', textcredits='$totaltextcredits' WHERE username='$username'"); $credits = $row['credits']; $bannercredits = $row['bannercredits']; $textcredits = $row['textcredits']; $convertedbannerimp = "You converted ".$bannertotextimp." banner impression".$s." into ".$newtextcredits." text impressions"; } else{ if ($bannercredits>1){ $mycredits = $bannercredits - 1;} $errorbannerimp = number_format($mycredits, 0, '.', ''); } } ?> <html> <head> <title>Convert Credits</title> <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"> function inputLimiter(e,allow) { var AllowableCharacters = ''; if (allow == 'NumbersOnly'){AllowableCharacters='0123456789.';} var k; k=document.all?parseInt(e.keyCode): parseInt(e.which); if (k!=13 && k!=8 && k!=0){ if ((e.ctrlKey==false) && (e.altKey==false)) { return (AllowableCharacters.indexOf(String.fromCharCode(k))!=-1); } else { return true; } } else { return true; } } </script> </head> <body> <h1>Convert Credits</h1><br /> Credits: <?php echo $credits; ?><br /> Banner Impressions: <?php echo $bannercredits; ?><br /> Text Ad Impressions: <?php echo $textcredits; ?><br /> <form action="convert.php" method="POST"> <h3>Credits To Banner Impressions</h3> Convert <input type="text" name="bannerimp" id="NumbersOnly" onkeypress="return inputLimiter(event,'NumbersOnly')" value="<?php echo $errorbanner; ?>" onChange=""> credits into BLANK Banner Impressions!
