JavaScript - Replace Up To Specific Character In Url - Javascript
Greetings,
I am having trouble finding any examples to help me strip everything up to a certain character (the hypen) in a url. Hypothetical example below, as I only know how to accomplish this using a literal only for one url at a time but I need this for changing urls: Code: <script language="JavaScript"><!-- var temp = new String('http://www.site.com/abc_123_abc_-1379820930'); temp = temp.replace("http://www.site.com/abc_123_abc_-", ''); document.write(temp); //--></script> And I am hoping to be left with the series of numbers on the end. Any help is greatly appreciated. Similar TutorialsHow do I replace the string "rpg" only present in between <et> tags ? Code: <et>ReplaceOnlyrpg</et> After replacement it should look like this Code: <et>ReplaceOnly</et> Any advice is appreciated. Thank you document.write(str.replace(/(\+|\(|\)|.|-|\/ /g,'')); feeble attempt to remove '.' '(' ')' ' ' '-' '/'and '+' Hi I am wondering if it is possible to replace a rating form with some sort of javascript star rating system that would submit the same way? Here is my current form: <form method=post action="%%%SCRIPT_URL%%%"> <input type=hidden name=main value="imageRate"> <input type=hidden name=file value="%%%FILENAME%%%"> <input type=hidden name=category value="%%%DIRECTORY%%%"> <select name=rate size=1> <option>1</option> <option>2</option> <option>3</option> <option>4</option> <option>5</option> <option>6</option> <option>7</option> <option>8</option> <option>9</option> <option>10</option> </select> <input type=submit value="Rate This!"> </form> Right now it is a drop down menu and I would like to replace with a php, javascript, or ajax rating script that can keep the same properties. Any advice? I'm currently working at school on a website and I cycled through aloooot of tutorials, but I couldn't find anything >.< so the qeustion is how to make a VERY simple javascript div tag replacer using buttons. so if I click for example button 1 then I want div tag 1 replaced with div tag 2 and when you press button 2 div tag 1 or 2 gets replaced with div tag 3. the closest tutorial I found was: Replace one div with another Code: s = s.replace(/\[code\](.*?)\[\/code\]/gi,'<span class="code">$1</span>'); This works as expected, but what I'm trying to do is replace the content within the tags with a santized version of what was in it before. Example Code: function clean(str){ //clean up string stuff here return str; } s = s.replace(/\[code\](.*?)\[\/code\]/gi,'<span class="code">'+clean('$1')+'</span>'); But as with everything in life it's never that easy, it's simply passing "$1" to the clean function instead of what was actually within the code tags. Can anyone tell me how I'd go about doing this? This is driving me nuts I need to replace all instances of "zz" with 'Z'. I can easily replace other strings such as a = a.replace(/mickeymouse/, "Z"); but a = a.replace(/zz/, "Z"); doesn't work. Must be a double characer thing? I have a js replace function to replace text next to two radio buttons on a pre set form. Script is as follows. Code: document.body.innerHTML = document.body.innerHTML.replace( "Payment by <b>Moneybookers</b> e-wallet<br>", "" ); document.body.innerHTML = document.body.innerHTML.replace( "Maestro, Visa and other credit/debit cards by <b>Moneybookers</b>", "Pago con Diners Club, Mastercard o Visa" ); The script works fine in Chrome and Firefox, however, the script is not actioned in Explorer. I believe it has something to do with there being , / - within the text I am replacing? When I use the function to replace text with no , / - in the text - it works fine in explorer, however, for example when I try to replace text.. - "Maestro, Visa and other credit/debit cards by Moneybookers" this does not work in explorer.. I'm assuming because of the coma and forward slash. Honestly I've tried everything but just can not get this to work. I have no access to the HTML table where the form is posted this is why I am attempting this funtion. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I was debugging my code looking for a loop. So in the process I added a confirm request and if the user clicked cancel I coded location.replace("Kill.html"). Problem was that the JAVASCRIPT continued to run until either it finished or I used the Task Manager to end the session. There3 was a small difference in browsers: Firefox put up the new screen while continuing to run the JAVASCRIPT while IE didn't put up the new screen until after the JAVASCRIPT was finished. I could tell the JAVASCRIPT was still running because the confirm messages kept popping up.

I have not done anything with html and javascript until this afternoon and funnily enough I'm struggling a tad I am creating a free website about the dangers of chocolate for dogs. Basically I need a calculator to calculate the toxic amount for the user input of their dogs weight in kgs. I figured doing one for each type of chocolate would be easier than doing something where a box was ticked for each type of chocolate so have been trying to do one for milk chocolate first. This is my feeble attempt, it looks good but doesnt work, my javascript is clearly majorly wrong somewhere! <html> <head> <script language="JavaScript"> function calc(form) { var f = parseFloat(form.kg.value); var T = 0; T = (f/0.45)*28.35; form.answer.value = T; } // done hiding from old browsers --> </script> </head> <body> <FORM> <h2>Toxic dose of milk chocolate</h2> Enter dogs weight in kg: <INPUT NAME="kg" VALUE="0" MAXLENGTH="100" SIZE=25> <p> Click to calculate toxic dose in grammes: <INPUT NAME="calc" VALUE="Calculate" TYPE=BUTTON onClick=kg(this.form)> <p> Toxic amount of milk chocolate is: <INPUT NAME="g" READONLY SIZE=25> </FORM> </body> </html> Can anybody help? Thanks in advance. Hello All, I'm working on a image slider, which will slide left to right and vice versa on mouser over event. the images are dynamically loaded from the database using ASP script. I use mootools.svn.js for the sliding implementation. and Ajax to pass the id of the image to another page as a query string. this is implemented in a Code: onclick="getValue('<%= id %>')" event. This works fine in IE8, but when I test in Firefox 3.6 and Chrome the onclick event doesn't work. when I comment the mootools.svn.js, the onclick event get fired. what causes this. is their any solution? now my development has come to a grinding halt because of this. Hi All, I am not an expert in Javascript. Can I detect if 1 or more sessions of a website are open? for example, if a session with port 7005 is open like this one below, then I want to assign the next port to this user in the second window of browser http://90.97.8.0:7005/maximo/webclient/login/login.jsp the next IE window should appear like this: http://90.97.8.0:7006/maximo/webclient/login/login.jsp or http://90.97.8.0:7007/maximo/webclient/login/login.jsp Please advise. Thanks Yasar Another thing that has been driving me crazy is that css positioning is handled differently by different browsers. JS is not my area, but I can do a lot with CSS, and I do, but cross browser compatibility is killing me. I can use an IF IE statement and only IE runs that segment of code, but I haven't been able to figure out out how to make ONLY firefox or ONLY opera or safari enact an encapsulated segment of code. The same type of IF statement doesn't work for them. Is there a single method using JS that works for all browsers? Thre is probably a very simple answer and I am just missing it somehow. Hi, I am facing a problem in passing replace() function as an argument in user defined java function, can any one help me how to resolve it? intention is to pass a file path to my user defined function, but before passing the path i want to replace the character '\' to '\\' I am posting my javascript function he <a href="#" onclick="OpenDocPreview('<%# Eval("PATH")%>'.replace(/\\/g,"\\\\"), '<%# Eval("Filename")%>')"><%# Eval("DocTitle") %></a> function OpenDocPreview(url, docname) { alert('message from search base : ' + url + ' ' + docname); } thank you, i am trying to make an online graphing calculator with javascript. dont ask how because i dont know. but there is an annoying error in a do...while loop. although it should break out of the loop when the |'s (absolute value signs) are replaced with Math.abs( and ). here is the code. Code: var initec = function(){ var rg = { } ; rg.matc = false; rg.i = 0; rg.change = function(equ){ if (typeof(equ) != "string"){ alert('Equation must be a string'); return; } alert("starting equation: "+ equ); rg.i = 0; do{ rg.matc = equ.match(/\|/); if(rg.i === 0){ equ.replace(/\|/, " Math.abs("); rg.i = 1; alert("1 "+equ); } else { equ.replace(/\|/, " ) "); rg.i = 0; alert("0 "+equ); } }while(rg.matc) alert("finished equation: " + equ); } return rg; } rg=initec(); rg.change("|8/x+7|-2"); the last 2 lines and the alerts are for debugging. as you can see, it is not finished. but still, it should work. Hello all, I need assistance checking for valid characters in a username/password set up. I have been reading up on form validation but can't find exactly what I am looking for and need help deciphering what's going on. I have a list of accepted characters: "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ0123456789.-_@" a-z, A-Z, 0-9, dot, dash, underscore, and at. I want to then check an inputed string against that set and if a character is notin the accepted set, to send an alert. Here is what I have gathered so far: a for loop that increments through the values' .length - this is what checks each individual character. Then use of indexOf() can tell me which character is unacceptable. Now is where I am stuck and coming to you. Please help |
