JavaScript - Button Problem: Calling On Ids From A Specific Table
I have a table with tabs on it that calls different php files once the tab is clicked and on top of the table I have a drop list and a button. the whole table has 5 tabs and in there are 15 unique id with information on each tab that the table show when you click on the tab. The drop down list is a selection that you choose from of each of the 15 unique IDs. Once you choose one then click the button you should then only see that specific information about that particular id. (It can be in the table where you click each tab or all of it on one page I dont care.) So I need to get this button to work. I am very unfamiliar with buttons (thats why I am posting this) and I hope someone can help me

I have a index page that shows all my projects in a table with tabs you can click on that shows certain parts of all projects (ie tab for finance, project title). For now, every single project is shown on the website when you bring up the index page. Also the top part of the page, where I have the issue, there is a drop down list of all the projects with a "GO" button next to it. I want a user to be able to scroll down that list and click the button and the page would only show that particular project, ie choosing the tabs to go back and forth dealing with the one project only. The tabs are each its own .php file with the exact coding in all of them. Here is what I have on my index page that I need help on in order to make this button work. Any help will be appreciated. I've been searching for threads to solve my problem but I don't have the knowledge necessary to figure it out (you know, graphic designers....) so your help will be very appreciated!!! Here's the problem : I have a div named "cat" that I want to hide with a Javascript:animatedcollapse (slideup) action. The action is linked externally on another page. This is the line/link that hides it : <a href="javascript:animatedcollapse.hide('cat')">Hide the div<br/> It works fine. But, I want this action to happen at the same time that you press another link (that other link opens a page in an iframe). This is the iframe link : <p><a href="page.html" target="iframe">Open link in iframe</a></p> Both links work fine. But i want to merge the two together. How? Thanks in advance! Hey: I have several "submit" buttons on a form. I want users to be able to hit the "enter" key to submit the form. The page used to "post" the information checks for specifically what form button was pushed to submit the form before executing the appropriate code. I am automatically submitting the page when the enter key is hit, but it is defaulting to the first option of executed code in the post page. Example - I have an "update" button and a "delete" button on the form. On the post page, I first check to see if the delete button was hit. When I press enter on the form, it simply answers yes to the first question (did they click the delete button), and the code is executed. I really wanted to emulate that the update button was hit. So -- is there a way to hit the enter button, and in the js code, mandate that it was the "update" button that was clicked? Thanks. Hi, I'm having trouble with trying to access a selected value of a drop down menu in a table. I have menus in columns 3 and 4, named cred and grade respectively, from rows 2 onwards, and I'm using a function to access them. How do I access the value's for manipulating other variables? Here is what I have so far: Code: function f(tableID){ var len = document.getElementById(tableID).rows.length; for(var i = 1; i<len; i++){ var c = document.getElementById(tableID).rows[i].cells[2].childNodes[0]; credits = c.options[c.selectedIndex].text; } } Your help would be really appreciated Hi. Firstly, i apologise for this being a google maps related question but the problem is a regular javascript question i believe, and it's really frustrating me. As i'm sure you're aware that with the maps you can click on a red 'marker' and make an info box pop up. I'm trying to do this with a text link outside of the map. My problem is calling that script via the text link. i really can't see what i'm doing wrong; my html link Code: <a href="javascript;" onmouseover="marker.openInfoWindowHtml();">test</a> and the javascript from the map Code: GEvent.addListener(marker, "click", function() { marker.openInfoWindowHtml(); }); I'm sure it's something simple but i've been trying variations for hours and I can't get my head around it. Anyone with any ideas would be an absolute star. Cheers, Pat. Hello, I have a code: Code: var device = function(pos_X,pos_Y,serial){ this.pos_x = pos_X; this.pos_y = pos_Y; this.serial_number = serial; this.click = function(){ $("#Control").html("Menu"); }; this.draw = function() { $("#MainArena").append("<div style='position: absolute; top: "+this.pos_y+"px; left: "+this.pos_x+"px;' onclick='"+alert('click')+";'>device</div>"); }; this.move = function(newX, newY) { this.pos_x = newX; this.pos_y = newY; }; [...] <body> <div id="MainArena"></div><div id="Control"></div> devices = new device(100,100,1); devices.draw(); </body> The main problem is in "onclick" in <div> element. This script generates: <div id="1" style="position: absolute; top: 100px; left:100px;" onclick="undefined;">device</div> Code: <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <title>New Page 2</title> </head> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE = JavaScript> function estimateHolidays() { var service1; var service2; var service3; var txtGrade; var txtHolidays; var dblEntitlement; var strService; strService = cmbService.value; if (strService == "Service1") { dblEntitlement = 20; } else if (strService == "Service2" && Grade--"1") { dblEntitlement = 24; } else if (strService == "Service2" && Grade--"2") { dblEntitlement = 26; } else if (strService == "Service2" && Grade--"3") { dblEntitlement = 28; } else if (strService == "Service3") { dblEntitlement = 30; } else { dblEntitlement = "Error! Please try again."; } txtHoliday.value = dblEntitlement; } </SCRIPT> <body> <p> <input name="txtGrade" size="25" value="Enter Your Staff Grade"> </p> <p> Years of Service: <select name="cmbService" size="1"> <option value="Service1">Less than 5 years service</option> <option value="Service2">5 to 9 years service</option> <option value="Service3">10 or more years of service</option> </select> </p> <p> <input type="button" value="Estimate Holidays" name="cmdEstimateHolidays" onclick="estimateHolidays()"> </p> <p> Holiday Entitlement: <input name="txtHolidays" size="25"> </p> </body> </html> Why won't this code work!? Its driving me mad. This is a general question on if it's possible and how I'd go about it... I'm working on a site hosted through a blog-managing company. Sometimes their programming doesn't seem to let me do things that would normally be possible, so I have to find creative work-arounds. This time, It doesn't seem I can use javascript to change an href destination that is generated by their system. I want the user to go to a different page, when they click on that link. I can have a script find a specific href, but it can't change it for some reason. So I'm wondering if there's a way I can just have the script redirect the user if they click on that link? I know it seems like a long way round, but I don't see any other way to do this under the circumstances. Just in case it helps, here's what I thought would work, but didn't: Code: document.getElementById('elementName').href == 'http://www.newURL.com'; I'm coding a simple random sentence generator & this is the beginning part of what I'm trying to accomplish. I created 3 different functions with 3 separate buttons & 3 separate text areas to display the noun, verb, or article once the button is pressed. However, when I press a button, nothing shows up in the text area! Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong & give me a fix? It has to be a simple problem, but I am very very new to this & need help. Thanks in advance! Code: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <script language="JavaScript"> function noun() // Assumes: nothing // Returns: a random noun { return RandomOneOf(["man", "woman", "ball"]); } </script> <script language="JavaScript"> function verb() // Assumes: nothing // Returns: a random noun { return RandomOneOf(["hit", "liked", "smelled"]); } </script> <script language="JavaScript"> function article() // Assumes: nothing // Returns: a random noun { return RandomOneOf(["the", "a", "some"]); } </script> </head> <body> <input type="button" value="Noun" onclick="document.getElementById('OutNoun').value = noun();" /> <TEXTAREA ID="OutNoun" ROWS=1 COLS=15 WRAP VALUE=""></TEXTAREA> <input type="button" value="Verb" onclick="document.getElementById('OutVerb').value = verb();" /> <TEXTAREA ID="OutVerb" ROWS=1 COLS=15 WRAP VALUE=""></TEXTAREA> <input type="button" value="Article" onclick="document.getElementById('OutArticle').value = article();" /> <TEXTAREA ID="OutArticle" ROWS=1 COLS=15 WRAP VALUE=""></TEXTAREA> </body> </html> Another thing that has been driving me crazy is that css positioning is handled differently by different browsers. JS is not my area, but I can do a lot with CSS, and I do, but cross browser compatibility is killing me. I can use an IF IE statement and only IE runs that segment of code, but I haven't been able to figure out out how to make ONLY firefox or ONLY opera or safari enact an encapsulated segment of code. The same type of IF statement doesn't work for them. Is there a single method using JS that works for all browsers? Thre is probably a very simple answer and I am just missing it somehow. Hi to All, I have this problem: I' dl ike that, if one clicks a button, appear window_explorer in which it' s possible to choose an image that it will put in the specific td of the table. <head> <script> function add_pic() { document.forms[0].pic.value == code to choose image ... } </script> </head> <body> <form method="POST" name="FrontPage_Form1"> ... <table> <tr><td><button onClick="add_pic()">Insert Statitistic map</button></td></tr> <tr><td>Comments</td></tr> <tr><td id="pic" name="pic"> PLACE IN WHICH IMAGE APPEAR </td></tr> </table> ... </body> Thanks in advance !!! P.S. I use IE6 and Windows XP Hi, I need a button that not only resets what is typed in the textarea but also hides all shown tables... Here's how my current set up is... ---------text area------ with a reset button table1 title (when clicked, shows a table under it) table2 title (when clicked, shows a table under it) table3 title (when clicked, shows a table under it) the tables under the main tables have buttons that when clicked on inserts texts in the textarea. Any help would be much much appreciated! I need to make a table fadeout with JavaScript when I click a button. The table is simple. I cannot find a way to make the table fade out with just that one function. Is that even possible? If not, what other functions are necessary to make this happen? <p> <script type="text/javascript">// <![CDATA[ var metrics = { "mm" : 1, "cm" : 10, "m" : 1000, "inch" : 25.4, "foot" : 304.8 }; function convert(num, dec){ var val = document.getElementById("fromVal").value; if(isNaN(val)){ return } function roundNumber(num, dec) { var result = Math.round( Math.round( num * Math.pow( 10, dec + 1 ) ) / Math.pow( 10, 1 ) ) / Math.pow(10,dec); return result; } document.getElementById("toVal").value = val * metrics[document.getElementById("fromSystem").value]/ metrics[document.getElementById("toSystem").value]; } var interval = null; function watchChanges(){ interval == null ? setInterval("convert()", 500) : clearInterval(interval); } // ]]></script> </p> <table> <tbody> <tr> <td><input id="fromVal" style="width: 100px;" onfocus="watchChanges()" onblur="watchChanges()" type="text" /><select id="fromSystem" onchange="convert()"> <option value="mm">millimeters</option> <option selected="selected" value="cm">centimeters</option> <option value="m">meters</option> <option value="foot">feet</option> <option value="inch">inches</option> </select></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="1" align="center">=</td> </tr> <tr> <td><input id="toVal" style="width: 100px;" type="text" disabled="disabled" /><select id="toSystem" onchange="convert()"> <option value="mm">millimeters</option> <option value="cm">centimeters</option> <option value="m">meters</option> <option selected="selected" value="foot">feet</option> <option value="inch">inches</option> </select></td> Delete.
