JavaScript - Html Form Input Into Javascript Switch
I'm fairly new to javascript and would appreciate any help offered. I'm trying to use the input from an HTML form to interact with a switch statement in javascript. I want my users to input a few specific words, and have each word they input redirect them to a specific page.
Below is what I've currently come up with. I cannot get it to function properly as it continues to display the default output regardless of the input Code: <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" > <!-- function checkform ( form ) { var favcolour =("form.data", "") switch (favcolour) { case "red": window.location="index.html"; break; case "green": window.location="index.html#tips"; break; case "blue": window.location="index.html#blue"; break; default: document.writeln("Invalid Input"); }; } // --> </script> </head> <body> <form action="" method="post" onsubmit="return checkform(this);"> <input type="text" name="data" /> Again any help would be greatly appreciated! Similar TutorialsHi everyone, im new to javascript and I have created two forms.. a value will be put in the first field and the second field should display either $20 or $35 depending on the value of the first field. Im doing something wrong here.. but I cant see what. Any help is appreciated. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" /> <title>Distance from Depot</title> </head> <body> <form id="distanceform"> <ul> <li> <label for="Distance from EverWarm Depot">Distance from Depot (km):</label> <input type="text" id="distance" class="large"/> </li> </ul> </form> <input name="Button1" type="button" value="calculate" onclick="deliverycost()"/> <form id="deliverycostform"> <ul> <li> <label for="Delivery Cost" >Delivery Cost:</label> <input type="text" id="deliverycost" class="large"/> </li> </ul> </form> <script> function deliverycost() { /* Here is the delivery cost: less than or equal to twenty kilometres is $20.00 greater than twenty kilometres is $35.00 */ var distance = document.forms["neworder"]["distance"].value; if(distance<20) { document.getElementById('deliverycost').innerHTML="$20"; } else { document.getElementById('deliverycost').innerHTML="$35"; } } </script> </body> </html> I want to use javasript to create a new html page named from a text field in a form. Then I want to use javasript to copy all of the form fields to the new html page that was created using javascripting. I am creating a user are using a Javascript password login. With most of them the page is the user name or password. So this is why I am looking to do this. I use web 1000 a free host and they will only let me use javascripting. Any info or help would be great thank you
Hi all, Please keep in mind: this is the first code I have ever written -- much of it with help from this forum and the skeleton from other corners of the JS community. Thanks! But now for the problem... I'm developing am income tax calculator, and everything is going swell. Currently the user can type in their adjusted gross income (AGI), hit submit, and learn the amount of income tax they would pay, their tax rate, and their income after tax. I've played around with the events to get the submit button to work in FF, IE, Chrome and Safari -- and I've gotten the enter button to work before with some stock code, but here's the catch: when the user presses enter, i want the focus to leave the input box. I don't care where it goes (submit button, I suppose?) but i need it to leave the input field so the onfocus="clearText(this);" event can fire when they return to type in a new income. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Code: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function TotalGrossPerYear() { var Calc = document.NetIncome; if (Calc.InputRad[0].checked) { if ((Calc.AGI.value > 500000)) { Bracket3(); } if ((Calc.AGI.value > 200000 ) && (Calc.AGI.value <= 500000)) { Bracket1(); } if ((Calc.AGI.value <= 200000)) { Bracket2(); } } else if (Calc.InputRad[1].checked) { if ((Calc.AGI.value > 1000000)) { Bracket3(); } if ((Calc.AGI.value > 400000 ) && (Calc.AGI.value <= 1000000)) { Bracket1(); } if ((Calc.AGI.value <= 400000)) { Bracket2(); } } } function Bracket1() { var Calc = document.NetIncome; if (Calc.InputRad[0].checked) { Calc.TaxableIncome.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - 200000) ; Calc.AmtDue.value = Math.round((parseFloat(Calc.TaxableIncome.value) * 0.05)) ; Calc.AmtLeft.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value)) ; Calc.TaxRate.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value) / parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) * 100).toFixed(2) + " %"; } else { if (Calc.InputRad[1].checked) { Calc.TaxableIncome.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - 400000) ; Calc.AmtDue.value = Math.round((parseFloat(Calc.TaxableIncome.value) * .05)) ; Calc.AmtLeft.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value)) ; Calc.TaxRate.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value) / parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) * 100).toFixed(2) + " %"; } } } function Bracket2() { var Calc = document.NetIncome; if (Calc.InputRad[0].checked) { Calc.TaxableIncome.value = 0 ; Calc.AmtDue.value = Math.round((parseFloat(Calc.TaxableIncome.value) * 0.05)) ; Calc.AmtLeft.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value)) ; Calc.TaxRate.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value) / parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) * 100).toFixed(2) + " %"; } else { if (Calc.InputRad[1].checked) { Calc.TaxableIncome.value = 0 ; Calc.AmtDue.value = Math.round((parseFloat(Calc.TaxableIncome.value) * 0.05)) ; Calc.AmtLeft.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value)) ; Calc.TaxRate.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value) / parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) * 100).toFixed(2) + " %"; } } } function Bracket3() { var Calc = document.NetIncome; if (Calc.InputRad[0].checked) { Calc.TaxableIncome.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - 200000) ; Calc.AmtDue.value = Math.round((parseFloat(Calc.TaxableIncome.value) - 300000) * 0.09) + (300000 * 0.05) ; Calc.AmtLeft.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value)) ; Calc.TaxRate.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value) / parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) * 100).toFixed(2) + " %"; } else { if (Calc.InputRad[1].checked) { Calc.TaxableIncome.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - 400000) ; Calc.AmtDue.value = Math.round((parseFloat(Calc.TaxableIncome.value) - 600000) * .09) + (600000 * 0.05) ; Calc.AmtLeft.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) - parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value)) ; Calc.TaxRate.value = (parseFloat(Calc.AmtDue.value) / parseFloat(Calc.AGI.value) * 100).toFixed(2) + " %"; } } } function Couple() { var Calc = document.NetIncome; Calc.AGI.value = ""; Calc.TaxableIncome.value = "--------"; Calc.AmtDue.value = "--------"; Calc.AmtLeft.value = "--------"; Calc.TaxRate.value = "--------"; } function Individual() { var Calc = document.NetIncome; Calc.AGI.value = ""; Calc.TaxableIncome.value = "--------"; Calc.AmtDue.value = "--------"; Calc.AmtLeft.value = "--------"; Calc.TaxRate.value = "--------"; } function clearText(thefield){ if (thefield.value==thefield.value) thefield.value = "" } </script> </head> and the html... A non-programmer thank you immensely. Mike Hi, Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is the javascript that I am having a problem with. The two id's in question are at the end of the javascript. fyi Its for a form. What will happen is that the user selects the first dropdown with an id of 00N20000001HjsR. They then selects another dropdown with an id of 00N20000001Hp9Q. What I want is that on the second dropdown, if the user selects the value of Beauty Therapy, it will change the value of the first dropdown (id 00N20000001HjsR) to 'ANCB'. The problem I have at the moment is that it is not overriding the original dropdown selection. Any ideas on how to solve this? Much appreciated in advance, thanks!!! Code: <script type="text/javascript"> //check if prospectus is on document.formRec.onsubmit = function() { return ValidForm(); }; function ValidForm(){ if (document.getElementById("first_name").value == ""){ alert("Please enter your first name"); document.getElementById("first_name").focus(); return false; } if (document.getElementById("last_name").value == ""){ alert("Please enter you last name"); document.getElementById("last_name").focus(); return false; } if (document.getElementById("email").value == ""){ alert("Please enter your email address"); document.getElementById("email").focus(); return false; } if (document.getElementById("phone").value == ""){ alert("Please enter your contact number"); document.getElementById("phone").focus(); return false; } if (document.getElementById('00N20000001Hp9a').value== "--None--"){ alert("Please choose you country of citizenship"); document.getElementById('00N20000001Hp9a').focus(); return false; } if (document.getElementById('00N20000001HjsR').value== "--None--"){ alert("Please select type of study you are interested in"); document.getElementById('00N20000001HjsR').focus(); return false; } switch (document.getElementById('00N20000001Hp9Q').value) { case "--None--": alert("Please select area of study you are interested in"); document.getElementById('00N20000001Hp9Q').focus(); return false; break; case "Beauty Therapy": document.getElementById('00N20000001Hp9Q').value = "Beauty Therapy"; document.getElementById('00N20000001HjsR').value = "ANCB"; break; } return true; } </script> Hi guys. I was wondering if its possible to switch a form action using javascript. Because im trying to have a search field on my main site for my forum and website. By having two boxes underneath my search field so people can select if the want to search my phpbb forum ore my site. Well anyway, mabey switching the form action is not the right approach. Any tips are welcome thanks. I am thinking this should be fairly easy but yet I am not getting far. I want to have a form with a single text imput field for a zip code. Depending on which zip code the user enters will determine which url they will be sent to. If they enter a zip code which is not in the script, they would be sent to a default url. I am also assuming this can be accomplished with javascript. Any help is greatly appreciated. Hi, I believe this question has been asked by someone else before. However, it seems that the problem wasn't resolved. I'm having some trouble with the Switch Statements. My program runs without it so I know that the problem is here. I believe the logic is sound so it may be due to incorrect syntax. I will appreciate if someone could take a look at my code below and guide me in the right direction. Thank you. The purpose of this function is to create bars, and the length of the bars is determined by the value of the "percent" variable (which is working fine) in the For loop after the Switch statements. The variable, "partyType" contains any of the text strings, such as "I", "D", etc. Code: function createBar(partyType, percent){ var barText; switch(partyType){ case "D": barText="<td class='dem'></td>"; break; case "R": barText="<td class='rep'></td>"; break; case "I": barText="<td class='ind'></td>"; break; case "G": barText="<td class='green'></td>"; break; case "L": barText="<td class='lib'></td>"; break; default: document.write("hi"); } for(var i=1; i<percent; i++){ document.write(barText); } } } Hello I have issue and question. My software is taking value "inputVal" and assign it to the variable inputValue for example: assdsf than value "inputTyp" and assign it to the variable inputType for example: string so I want now to switch betwean "inputType" using "switch case" Every case has some "code" inside. So if my software choosed for example: inputType which is for example STRING value I want to RUN case 'string': But it doesn;t works ;/ It doesn't goes to any case;/ what is wrong with the code ;/ every case should test according regular expressions is string a string or email is email or number is number etc... and result: "false or true" should be assign to new variables for example "inpNUMBER" "inpEMAIL" etc. please help here is a code Code: inputValue = scriptletContext.getLocal("inputVal"); inputType = scriptletContext.getLocal("inputTyp"); //scriptletResult = inputType; switch (inputType) { case 'number': scriptletResult=("inpNUMBER",/^[-+]?\d+(\.\d+)?$/.test(inputValue)); //scriptletContext.put("inpNUMBER",/^[-+]?\d+(\.\d+)?$/.test(inputValue)); case 'email': scriptletResult=("inpEMAIL",/^(([^<>()[\]\\.,;:\s@\"]+(\.[^<>()[\]\\.,;:\s@\"]+)*)|(\".+\"))@((\[(2([0-4]\d|5[0-5])|1?\d{1,2})(\.(2([0-4]\d|5[0-5])|1?\d{1,2})){3} \])|(([a-zA-Z\-0-9]+\.)+[a-zA-Z]{2,}))$/.test(inputValue)); //criptletContext.put("inpEMAIL",/^(([^<>()[\]\\.,;:\s@\"]+(\.[^<>()[\]\\.,;:\s@\"]+)*)|(\".+\"))@((\[(2([0-4]\d|5[0-5])|1?\d{1,2})(\.(2([0-4]\d|5[0-5])|1?\d{1,2})){3} \])|(([a-zA-Z\-0-9]+\.)+[a-zA-Z]{2,}))$/.test(inputValue)); case 'string': scriptletResult=("inpALPHA",/^[a-z0-9]+$/.test(inputValue)); //scriptletContext.put("inpALPHA",/^[a-z0-9]+$/.test(inputValue)); case 'ip': scriptletResult=("inpIP",/^((25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.){3}(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)+$/.test(inputValue)); //scriptletContext.put("inpIP",/^((25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)\.){3}(25[0-5]|2[0-4][0-9]|[01]?[0-9][0-9]?)+$/.test(inputValue)); default: scriptletContext.put("errors",inputType) }; I need for the submission of an unvalidated from to reload the page to allow for php validation which, if passed, would use javascript to change the form's action to an external site. First, is the following approach sound? Code: <script type="text/javascript"> if(my_php_validation_ok == true) document.form.action="the_external_url" else document.form.action="current_page.php" </script> Second, how should the <form> action be styled to accomplish this? Hi, I'm doing some experimenting. So this may look bad to javascript experts here. But I'm trying to learn. I have a header div that will show a larger image when the user mouses over each thumbnail image. I used jQuery to create this effect. The header div contains a button. Once the button is clicked, an alert will pop up to tell the user the artist's name of image. The button is wired to an ID of a paragraph. Problem is, my code is not working. I don't want to use "onclick" inline javascript (which is what I am using to call the showArtistname() function). I want unobtrusive javascript like jQuery is. I'm not sure how to do this. I don't know if I should use an array or if I'm even approaching this correctly. Well, it's not correct, because it's not working... Here is my jQuery code: Code: $(function(){ $("a:has(img.small)").mouseover(function(){ var bigImage= $(this).attr("href"); $("#heading").attr({src: bigImage}); return false; }); }); here is my javascript code: Code: function showArtistname(){ var a = document.getElementById("bluesails", "purplemountains", "bigsky", "nightlights", "fireysunset", "brilliantsunrise").innerHTML; switch(a) { case "bluesails": alert("Arthur MacKenzie") break case "purplemountains": alert("Maggie Laing") break case "bigsky": alert("Arthur MacKenzie") break case "nightlights": alert("Aria Soriano") break case "fireysunset": alert("Felix Buckley") break case "brilliantsunrise": alert("Felix Buckley") } } Here is the HTML: Code: <div class="container_12" id="_container"> <div class="grid_12" id="12_header" > <div class="hc_left_pic"> <images/01_md.jpg" id="heading" alt="Big Image." /> <div id="showImage" onclick="showArtistname()"></div> </a></div> </div> <div class="clear"></div> <div class="grid_4" id="artist_container1"> <a href="images/01_md.jpg"><img src="images/01_sm.jpg" width="100" height="100" class="small" alt="Small image Blue Sails" /></a> <p class="text" id="bluesails">Blue Sails</p> </div> <div class="grid_4" id="artist_container2"> <a href="images/02_md.jpg"><img src="images/02_sm.jpg" width="100" height="100" class="small" alt="Small Image Purple Mountains"/></a> <p class="text" id="purplemountains">Purple Mountains</p> </div> <div class="grid_4" id="artist_container3"> <a href="images/03_md.jpg"><img src="images/03_sm.jpg" width="100" height="100" class="small" alt="Small Image Big Sky"/></a> <p class="text" id="bigsky">Big Sky</p> </div> <div class="clear"></div> <div class="grid_4" id="artist_container4"> <a href="images/04_md.jpg"><img src="images/04_sm.jpg" width="100" height="100" class="small" alt="Small Image Night Lights" /></a> <p class="text" id="nightlights">Night Lights</p> </div> <div class="grid_4" id="artist_container5"> <a href="images/05_md.jpg"><img src="images/05_sm.jpg" width="100" height="100" class="small" alt="Small Product Image Firey Sunset"/></a> <p class="text" id="fireysunset">Firey Sunset</p> </div> <div class="grid_4" id="artist_container6"> <a href="images/06_md.jpg"><img src="images/06_sm.jpg" width="100" height="100" class="small" alt="Small Product Image Brilliant Sunrise"/></a> <p class="text" id="brilliantsunrise">Brilliant Sunrise</p> </div> Here's the CSS: Code: .container_12 .grid_4 { width: 274px; height: 370px; background-color:#ccc; border: 3px solid #999; padding-left:10px; padding-right:10px; padding-bottom:10px; } #showImage{ margin: -170px 20px 80px 700px; width: 176px; height: 48px; background:url(../images/showimage.jpg); position:relative; z-index:100; } .grid_4 img { position:relative; left:100px; top:20px; padding:0 0 60px 0; border:none; } .grid_4 p { position:relative; text-align:center; } p.text { font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:.75em; color:#000; line-height:1.25em; font-weight:bold; } #12_header { display: inline; background-color:#e5e5e5; border: 3px solid #bfbfbf; height:225px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:; color:#000; font-weight:bold; line-height:1.2em; } .hc_left_pic { float:left; margin-top:15px; background-color:#e5e5e5; border: 3px solid #bfbfbf; width:935px; height:250px; } Hey guys, I've never use JavaScript before so bare with me. But, I have a registration form, and I want to have a location field in it, and then a region field that changes depending on what the user set as their location. But, I cannot get it to work, and I have no idea of how to go about doing it. Here is the JavaScript I have been using so far: Code: function toggleTable(select) { if(select.value == "uk") { select.value = "uk"; document.getElementById("region2").style.visibility = "collapse"; document.getElementById("region1").style.visibility = "visible"; } else if(select.value == "usa") { select.value = "usa"; document.getElementById("region1").style.visibility = "collapse"; document.getElementById("region2").style.visibility = "visible"; } } and it does show the right region depending on what the user inputed, but when the page loads, all the fields show up until the user click on the location field, here is the code for that so you can test it out: Code: <tr><td>Location: </td><td><select name="location" onclick="toggleTable(this);"> <option value="none">Please Select One</option> <option value="uk">UK</option> <option value="usa">USA</option> </select></td></tr> <tr id="region1"><td>Region: </td><td> <select name="region"> <option value="uk1">uk1</option> <option value="uk2">uk2</option> </select></td></tr> <tr id="region2"><td>Region: </td><td> <select name="region"> <option value="usa1">usa1</option> <option value="usa2">usa2</option> </select> </td></tr> Any help at all please? Writing Table Cells and Switch Statements I am to create a function and purpose is to write blank tables cells to make up horizontal bar. function will have 2 parameters=(partyType and percent partyType parameter stores variables of D,R,I,G or L percent parameter store percentage rounded to nearest integer so I am to make a switch and break statements /commands then have to create a For Loop in counter variable goes up from 1 through value of parmeter increments of 1 heres the code I created for this one Code: function createBar(partyType, percent){ // script element to create blank cells switch(partyType) { case "D": document.write("<td class='dem'></td>"); break; case "E": document.write("<td class='rep'></td>"); break; case "I": document.write("<td class='ind'></td>"); break; case "G": document.write("<td class='green'></td>"); break; case "L": document.write("<td class='lib'></td>"); break; } var barText = partyType for (i=0; i < percent; i++) { document.write(barText); So what improvements should I make? should my loop be before everything? Thanks I am not familiar with javascript only html, but I have researched this problem and found some solutions, but I am unsure what to do with them. I have an html checkbox form that lists book titles. The user will click on the checkbox next to the titles that interest them. Then when they click submit, I want a pop-up box to appear with the titles they selected in a printable list. I found this javascript code: Code: <script langauge="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function openPreview() { var myWin = window.open ("popup.htm","myWindowName","width=500,height=350"); myWin.focus(); } </script> Then here is my html form code: Code: <form action="" form id= "myInput"> <table width="523"> <tr><td width="33"> <input type="checkbox" name="product" value="Ironman"></td> <td width="229"><div align="left">Ironman</div></td> <td width="174">Chris Crutcher </td> <td width="56" align="right"> </td></tr> <tr><td><input type="checkbox" name="product" value="Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes"> <th><div align="left">Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes </div></th> <td>Chris Crutcher </td> <td align="right"><tt>Realism</tt></td> </tr> <tr><td><input type="checkbox" name="product" value="The Watsons Go to Birmingham"> <th><div align="left">The Watsons Go to Birmingham </div></th> <td>Chrisopher Paul Curtis </td> <td align="right"> </td> </tr> </table> <input type="button" id="btnPreview" name="btnPreview" value="Preview" onclick="openPreview()" /> </form> Then on the popup.htm page I have this code Code: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> document.write(window.opener.document.getElementById("myInput").value); </script> This code has worked for me when the form is a textarea or a label, but I don't know how to use it with a checkbox form. I know that labeling the form "my input" only works for textarea or labels, so I understand why the pop-up menu says undefined. What do I need to do to get the checkbox data to appear. This is the weirdest thing I've come across in awhile. I have some code that formats a input field for a date format. This code runs fine on all browser when the form tag isn't wrapped around the inputs. The second I wrap the form tag around the inputs everything messes up. The Javascript error I'm getting is "Object doesn't support this property or method." on line 45 which is the line of the date input field. I'm totally clueless what I'm doing wrong here. And so I'll leave it up to you the wonderful community to give me some help. However, I cannot tell if the javascript is executing or not, as no alert messages come up. If I fill in the form with blanks (which is what the function checkform() checks for) then it should display an alert on submission and return false. Otherwise, returns true. I need to get this licked before going on to the more complex coding, but I really can't see why this doesn't appear to work. I'd be most grateful if some kind soul out there could have a look at it for me.... Links below. Thank you in anticipation! http://www.kellyresources.co.uk/onli...ment_test.html http://www.kellyresources.co.uk/checkform.js I am very new to javascript and really can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I am trying to make a 1 page store that allows you to type in an item and select the color and size you want for that item. If you don't fill in a field, an alert message should tell you that. If all the fields are filled in, a "thank you for purchasing ____________" message should appear in a text area at the bottom of the page. This is my current code: Code: <html> <head> <script> function processform() { if ( document.form1.item1.value == "") { alert("No Item Chosen") } else { chosen = "" len = document.form1.c1.length for (i = 0; i <len; i++) { if (document.form1.c1[i].checked) { chosen = document.form1.c1[i].value } } if (chosen == "") { alert("No Color Chosen") } } else { itemname = document.form1.item1.value; itemcolor = document.form1.c1.value; itemsize = document.form1.size.value; document.form1.txtarea1.value = "Thank you for purchasing a " + itemsize + " " + itemcolor + " " + itemname; } } </script> </head> <body> <h1>Store</h1> <br/><br/> <form name="form1"> <h4>What item would you like to buy?</h4> <input type="text" name="item1" value="" /><br /> <br/><br/> <h4>Color</h4> <input type="radio" name="c1" value="blue" /> Blue<br /> <input type="radio" name="c1" value="red" /> Red<br /> <input type="radio" name="c1" value="green" /> Green<br /> <input type="radio" name="c1" value="yellow" /> Yellow<br /> <br/><br/> <h4>Size</h4> <select name="size"> <option value="small">Small</option> <option value="medium">Medium</option> <option value="large">Large</option> <option value="extra large">Extra Large</option> </select> <br/><br/> <button onclick="processform()">Purchase</button> <br/><br/> <textarea rows="2" cols="40" name = "txtarea1"> </textarea> </form> </body> </html> When I press the purchase button, no alert message is shown, nor does anything get displayed in the textarea.
