JavaScript - Removing All Html Tags Except Bold,italic,underline & Ul,li

Well after much trial and error I come asking for help. I am trying to write a greasemonkey script that scans a page for all the values between certain <td> tags. When I used firebug it shows what I am looking for as
<td class="username">THEUSERNAME</td>
but when I view the source it just shows up as
<td>THEUSERNAME</td>
I want to create an array of the 100 <td>'s on the page that pertain to usernames but none of the other <td>'s

I created a test page that mimicked the code, what I thought origionally, to be so I could test my script with ease. And it worked when there was an actually <td class="username">

I'm using javascript to change the color of certain words in an html document. Right now it uses <font> to make the change. I would like to use a CSS class named "alert" from an external style sheet to make the change. I've tried multiple things but no luck (className="alert", setClassName="alert" )
What is the correct way to replace the font part with a CSS class?

I have created a Bold button - when i click the button it applies it into my textarea.

The Problem is if i want to apply the bold style only to a single line and the rest of the written text will be normal and not bold it doesn't work.
How can I add to the function that when i select a certain line and click on the button to make it bold only the selected line will be bold??

I have a document list of several hundred drug names where some are lower case and some are all caps. I want to bold only the lower case drug names but don't want to do it manually. Is there a java script that I can apply where it automatically does that for me?

Hi there, I would like to do the following:

When I click on a button, it will set the item in the listbox to be bold. But this will only happen when the user clicks on the desired item to be bold and presses the button. An alert message will occur when he/she presses the button without clicking on the item, stating that the user will need to click on the item. How shoukld I do it in javascript?

I am retrieving a value from a form, but the problem is that the value is surrounded in parentheses (intentionally). However when making an if statement to see if the value is greater then "X", i can not make an if statement becouse there are parentheses around the number. How can i strip the parentheses??

Is it possible to prevent the tooltip that appears when mousing over an image from appearing? This is without removing the alt or title tags.

The very bottom where it has the 'span' tag and it says "SEC Champions" is where the Signatures are located. I want to completely remove that using my script and this is what I have right now

I put this at the end of my code thinking that after the div displays (id = 'link_container') I can eliminate (id = 'link_container') from memory when the script ends so there's a place for another div (id = 'link_container') when/if there's onkeyup event.

Wouldn't this little script remove any element with an id = 'link_container' ?

I have a blog with a two-column setup... a sidebar and a main section for posting articles, but encapsulated in a div wrap. I am creating a mobile site and want to:

1) remove/hide the sidebar
2) move the main section to the center for easy reading

My issue is that I have tried CSS without success in accomplishing BOTH tasks. I easily can hide the sidebar using various methods, but the main section will not move to the center of the wrap, presumably because the sidebar is still there but not visible. So I went the JavaScript route instead with the following:

Now my questions is... since the element is now removed, how do I move the main section to the center? I tried grabbing the main section with its id and floating it left (just to play around and see if it would move) and that didn't do anything.
