JavaScript - Form Field Change Detection
Greetings,
I'm working on a php/mysql app that has multiple tabs with multiple form fields. I am trying to incorporate a javascript form field detection function that alerts the user that they have not submitted their changes if they try to navigate away. The detection works as designed, but the problem I am having is when the form is submitted, the script senses an unload and still fires the alert. The form submits to itself and updates the database and then reloads the page with the new values. Is there a way to have the script ignore the forms submit url and skip the form check? Here is the code ( NOT mine, found it somewhere else.) Code: <script language="javascript"> var ids = new Array('description'); var values = new Array('<?php echo $detail['description']; ?>'); function populateArrays() { // assign the default values to the items in the values array for (var i = 0; i < ids.length; i++) { var elem = document.getElementById(ids[i]); if (elem) if (elem.type == 'checkbox' || elem.type == 'radio') values[i] = elem.checked; else values[i] = elem.value; } } var needToConfirm = true; window.onbeforeunload = confirmExit; function confirmExit() { if (needToConfirm) { // check to see if any changes to the data entry fields have been made for (var i = 0; i < values.length; i++) { var elem = document.getElementById(ids[i]); if (elem) if ((elem.type == 'checkbox' || elem.type == 'radio') && values[i] != elem.checked) return "Your changes have not been saved. Are you sure you want to leave?"; else if (!(elem.type == 'checkbox' || elem.type == 'radio') && elem.value != values[i]) return "Your changes have not been saved. Are you sure you want to leave?"; } // no changes - return nothing } } </script> The url of the page is "edit.php?&mode=edit&t=2&id=284&cn=2009-002" The only detectable change to the query string would be the 't' variable. Basically what I want to do is have the script look for a change in the 't' variable and if detected, check the form values for changes. If 't' doesn't change, skip the script completely. Thanks.. Hi, Sorry to bother you all with this but I'm really new to JavaScript and can't figure this out but I'm sure it's probably quite simple for you guys. I've been using this bit of code to limit the number of characters in a text field (taken from http://www.shiningstar.net/articles/...reacounter.asp: Code: <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> function textCounter(field, cntfield, maxlimit) { if (field.value.length > maxlimit) // if too long...trim it! field.value = field.value.substring(0, maxlimit); // otherwise, update 'characters left' counter else cntfield.value = maxlimit - field.value.length; } // End --> </script> <form name="myForm" action="/articles/articles/javascript/dynamictextareacounter.asp?ID=<%=siteID%>" method="post"> <b>One Function to Count and Limit Multiple Form Text Areas</b><br> <textarea name="message1" wrap="physical" cols="28" rows="5" onKeyDown="textCounter(document.myForm.message1,document.myForm.remLen1,125)" onKeyUp="textCounter(document.myForm.message1,document.myForm.remLen1,125)"></textarea> <br> <input readonly type="text" name="remLen1" size="3" maxlength="3" value="125"> characters left <br> <textarea name="message2" wrap="physical" cols="28" rows="5" onKeyDown="textCounter(document.myForm.message2,document.myForm.remLen2,125)" onKeyUp="textCounter(document.myForm.message2,document.myForm.remLen2,125)"></textarea> <br> <input readonly type="text" name="remLen2" size="3" maxlength="3" value="125"> characters left <br> <input type="Submit" name="Submit" value="Submit"> <br> </form> What I'd like to do is make the background colour and maybe the font colour change on the 'characters left' field depending on the value of that field. So most of the time the colour is green but when the field = 0, the background colour changes to red. Can I just add to the function above or will I need a new one? Many thanks in advance Glorifindal Hello, I'm currently working on http://footytweets.co.uk and would like to add an input field to my twitter feed widgets, which allows users to change which twitter account tweets are dispalyed. An example is here; https://twitter.com/about/resources/...widget_profile You can see in the example how you can enter a different twitter user account, then hit 'test settings', leading to related twees being displayed. I can see how to do it but Im a super novice at JS so thought Id ask for assistance . Any code help is very much appreciated. Thx I've set up a mock registration form page so I can learn a bit about javascript's form validation. (newbie) I want to try to attempt to style the border of a form field green when the user enters the correct info into the form text field and red on all other fields if the user doesnt enter any info into them. When i test it, enter the right info into the username field, leave the others blank, and hit the submit button it styles the username field green ok but it doesnt make the next fields (password and so on) red. Could someone please explain what I am doing wrong? here is my code so far... Note: just for testing purposes I've put return false on everything so it displays a message when everythings ok. Code: .... <script type="text/javascript"> window.onload = function() { document.forms[0].username.focus(); } function validate(form) { var form = document.getElementById("reg"); var e = document.getElementById("error"); e.style.background = "red"; for(var i = 0; i < form.elements.length; i++) { var el = form.elements[i]; if(el.type == "text" || el.type == "password") { if(el.value == "") { e.innerHTML = "Please fill in all fields!"; el.style.border = "1px solid red"; el.focus(); return false; } else { el.style.border = "1px solid green"; return false; } } } var un = form.username; un.value = un.value.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,""); if((un.value.length < 3)|| (/[^a-z0-9\_]/gi.test(un.value))) { e.innerHTML = "Only letters, numbers and the underscore are allowed (no spaces) - 3-16 characters"; un.focus(); return false; } var pw = form.password; pw.value = pw.value.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,""); if((pw.value.length < 3) || (/[^a-z0-9]/gi.test(pw.value))) { e.innerHTML = "Only letters and numbers are allowed (no spaces) - 3-16 characters"; pw.focus(); return false; } e.innerHTML = "You filled in all the fields, well done!"; e.style.background = "green"; return false; } </script> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <div id="header"> <h1>My Cool Website</h1> </div> <div id="content"> <div class="padding"> <h2>Registration</h2> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Here is a link to the live page: http://www.watphotos.com/introductio...otography.html And here is the code in question: Code: <script src="js/jquery-1.4.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"> $(document).ready(function(){ var initial = 0 var total = 0; var services = 0; function addServices() { initial = 150 total = initial services = 0; $("input:checked").each(function(){ value = $(this).attr("value"); services += parseInt(value); }); } $(function() { addServices(); total += services; $("form").before('<p class="price"></p>') $("p.price").text("Total Price: US$" + total); }); $("input:radio, input:checkbox").click(function () { addServices(); total += services $("p.price").text("Total Price: US$" + total); }); }); </script> I have two questions... Question 1 How can I make this piece of script act a little smarter. Look at the order form, I'm catering for up to 4 people and providing lunch for them. If they select 3 people and the spaghetti bol for lunch, it's only adding $10 where it should be adding $30. Obviously this is simple multiplication but since the values in my form are prices it makes it a little tricky. I'm guessing an onselect on the first part of the form which changes the pricing of the other items would be the way to go, but how do I do this? Question 2 The "Total Price" is placed before the <form> tag by the script. This is ok but it's not where I want it. How can I position this text elsewhere in the document? Thanks in advance! I'm a long time lurker on here just barely created an account to ask this question. I work at a call center, and we use different webapps to fill out tickets. One I've used for a long time allows dynamically updating forms with javascript. I have a whole bunch of bookmarked javascript injections like: Code: javascript:if((top.detail.findObj('X31').value="Inquiry")!=""); That code will fill out most everything in that ticket, leaving me to fill in the details. I have one of those for all of the most common tickets, and can create and finish a ticket in less than 30 seconds when it takes others 3-4 minutes. I recently switched to a different system and I'm having trouble with my code. I'm a noob at javascript for sure, but I'm not new to programming. Anyway any pointers would be nice. The system we use doesn't allow me to see the source... I'm not sure how to explain it. It loads everything in a frame. In chrome I can right click then inspect element and get the ID but it the above javascript doesn't work. Examples: Old app source ex: Code: <label for="X31">Category:</label> was all i needed new app(before the body code is just code for the login form, etc): Code: <body onLoad="startit()" onUnload="stopit()"> </body> <div align="center" valign="center" id="LoadMessageID" style="position: relative; top:40%; color:#0069A5; font-size:100% ;"> <img src="/arsys/shared/images/Progress_NonModal-circle.gif" alt="wait image"/> Loading... </div> </html> formloader: Code: <form name="form1" action="/arsys/forms/bmcitsm/HPD:Incident+Management+Console/Default+User+View+(Support)/?cacheid=a22a36a8" method="post"> example of inspect element in chrome (something i want to change with javascript injection): Code: <input id="arid301602600" type="text" class="text " style="top:0; left:0; width:225; height:21;" readonly=""> How can I add a form field value to a url. I tried the below but it no work. Code: href="index2.php?q=4&id=+document.theForm.lists.value+&picklist" I need to learn how to clear form fields when a user clicks on them. Here is the site in question: http://www.yourvancouvermortgagebroker.ca/apply They used to work, but then I changed the field value and now it doesn't work on some of the fields (whichever ones I changed). Here is a link to the .js file: http://www.yourvancouvermortgagebroker.ca/js/apply.js I have a form which has various fields which are arrays (so the name of a field may be myField[]). The reason for this is that the form has add buttons to add another field or fields for the purpose of entering another email address, etc., to send invitations and do other things. The problem that I am running into is how to access the individual fields in an array of fields inside javascript to do form validation. So if I have an email address field name emailAddress[], and using the add button, the user of my site adds 3 other copies of the emailAddress[] field, I want to then do form validation onSubmit to ensure those email address are valid using standard procedures. However, inside the javascript code, how do I access the individual fields that make up emailAddress[]? I just cannot find anywhere online the proper way to get at these values. If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Happy Holidays Hi there, I have a html form, and I need it so that when a user clicks a button, it adds a field into the form. I also need it to write <td></td> around the new field, and I need it to write this in a specific part row of a table. How would I go about doing this? I've tried searching for the past two hours, but no luck. Many thanks, I appreciate it, Jason Hi! I use the :: Form field Progress Bar from DynamicDrive: Form field Progress Bar Now I trided to change the text when the textarea is full "Limit:100%" to "Your max. characters is reached" I trided it but with no luck. Code: <script type="text/JavaScript"> function textCounter1(field,counter,maxlimit,linecounter) { // text width// var fieldWidth = 137; var charcnt = field.value.length; // trim the extra text if (charcnt > maxlimit) { field.value = field.value.substring(0, maxlimit); } else { // progress bar percentage var percentage = parseInt(100 - (( maxlimit - charcnt) * 100)/maxlimit) ; document.getElementById(counter).style.width = parseInt((fieldWidth*percentage)/100)+"px"; document.getElementById(counter).innerHTML="Limiet: "+percentage+"%" // color correction on style from CCFFF -> CC0000 setcolor(document.getElementById(counter),percentage,"background-color"); } } function setcolor(obj, percentage, prop){ obj.style[prop] = "rgb(80%,"+(100-percentage)+"%,"+(100-percentage)+"%)"; } </script> This is the place where the text is set. Code: ((fieldWidth*percentage)/100)+"px"; document.getElementById(counter).innerHTML="Limiet: "+percentage+"%" Help would be highly appreciated ! greetings Jardin Is there a way to give an input or textarea field the focus and set the focus to begin right at the end of the current text in the field?
