JavaScript - <textarea> Reset One Textarea To Default Value (not Reset The Whole Form)
Hi i have a problem, i've been trying to fix this for the whole day
pls see my code below Code: for ($o = 0; $o <= $totalclass; $o++) { for($i = 1; $i <= 45; $i++) { if ($_SESSION['classification'][$o] == $i) { $sql2="SELECT ClassDesc FROM tblclass WHERE ClassID = '$i'"; $result2=mysql_query($sql2); // If successfully queried if($result2) { while ($row2 = mysql_fetch_assoc($result2)) { $ClassDesc2 = $row2['ClassDesc']; } } //echo $ClassDesc2; ?> <tr> <td bgcolor="FAFAF6" class="small" valign="top">Class <? echo $i; ?></td> <input type="hidden" name="<? echo "classid[]"; ?>" value="<? echo $i; ?>"> <td bgcolor="FAFAF6"> <textarea name="<? echo "specification[]"; ?>" COLS="50" ROWS="6" class="small" wrap="virtual" tabindex="<? echo $i; ?>"><? echo $ClassDesc2;?></textarea> <input type="button" value="Reset" onclick="window.reset();" name="reset"> </td> </tr> <? } } } i've trying to create a button or image to reset one textarea (from whole array) and so far i've been unsuccessful. i've seen this on other website and i know it is possible to do this, pls help! Similar TutorialsHi- I have a table with numerous textareas that I am able to clear once - the first time the textarea is clicked the default value is cleared and everything is OK. However, at a certain point the user might press a 'Clear' button linked to a function I wrote to reset the values back to the defaults. At this point clicking into the textarea does not clear it. Below is a typical textarea: Code: <textarea rows= "2" cols="15" class="Klabel" id="ta5" onfocus="this.value=''; this.onfocus=null; setbg_color('ta5','#EFA746')" onchange="setbg_color('ta5', '#EBF5FF')"> Type a label </textarea> Below are the relevant functions. The Clear function mentioned above just runs 'setbg_color' and 'set_value' for each textarea and sets them to the defaults. Code: function setbg_color(id, color){ document.getElementById(id).style.background=color; } function set_value(id, celltype){ document.getElementById(id).value=celltype; } Is there anyway to essentially reverse the effects of the this.onfocus=null; statement? I tried something like this.onfocus=true; but that didn't work. An update - I haven't answered the reversing null question but an acceptable solution is to reload the page from within javascript as per http://www.mediacollege.com/internet...ge/reload.html Thanks -Jim ps - As part of my research I came across this http://mvied.com/blog/unobtrusive-input-clear-focus/ which does a smoother job of clearing the textareas but does not solve my question. I need to clear the default value from a textarea when a user clicks on the textarea and then replace it if the user clicks away from the textarea without modifying it. I have managed to accomplish this with the textfields in my forms but I am struggling to get the textarea element to mimic this behavior. Here is the script I am using: Code: addEvent(window, 'load', init, false); function init() { var formInputs = document.getElementsByTagName('input'); for (var i = 0; i < formInputs.length; i++) { var theInput = formInputs[i]; if (theInput.type == 'text' && theInput.className.match(/\binput\b/)) { /* Add event handlers */ addEvent(theInput, 'focus', inputText, false); addEvent(theInput, 'blur', replaceDefaultText, false); /* Save the current value */ if (theInput.value != '') { theInput.defaultText = theInput.value; } } } } function inputText(e) { var target = window.event ? window.event.srcElement : e ? e.target : null; if (!target) return; if (target.value == target.defaultText) { target.value = ''; } } function replaceDefaultText(e) { var target = window.event ? window.event.srcElement : e ? e.target : null; if (!target) return; if (target.value == '' && target.defaultText) { target.value = target.defaultText; } } HTML: [HTML] <form action="#"> <fieldset> <legend></legend> <input type="text" value="Your Name" id="name" class="input" /> <label for="name">Name Required</label><br/> <input type="text" value="Your Email" id="email" class="input"/> <label for="email">E-mail Required</label><br/> <input type="text" value="Your Website" id="website" class="input"/> <label for="website">Website</label> <textarea rows="15" cols="71">Your Message Goes Here.</textarea> <input type="submit" value="Submit Comment" class="button" /> </fieldset> </form> [/HTML] I am really just trying to get this form to behave the way all other forms on the internet work- where text clears when a user clicks on a form element and replaces itself if the user doesn't enter new text. I have it working on the text field but no the textarea. Help! <script type="text/javascript"> function resetForm() { //noofrow = document.getElementById("NoOfRow").value; //form = document.getElementByID('form1'); //noofrow.reset(); d1=document.getElementById("textfield").value; d1=""; d1.reset(); return false; } </script> </head> <body> <form id="form1" name="form1" method="post" action=""> <p> <label> <input type="text" name="textfield" id="textfield" /> </label> </p> <p> <label> <input type="text" name="textfield2" id="textfield2" /> </label> </p> <p> <label> <input type="text" name="textfield3" id="textfield3" /> </label> </p> <p> <label> <input type="Submit" name="button" id="button" value="Submit" onclick="resetForm()" /> </label> </p> <p> </p> </form> how do i reset first input box ..............other data should be remain as follows................ plz help me to do this http://www.masterclock.com/newContac...help/david.php I have a page with 3 forms. I've got javascript making them appear and disappear with buttons at the top. I mostly copied this guy's form: http://tetlaw.id.au/view/javascript/...eld-validation I added some conditional checkboxes using wform javascript library. my problem is that i need my reset button to a)reset the fields and b)re-hide the conditional fields. It works with the sales form and the catalog form (the catalog from doesn't use the conditional fields) but for some reason the request a quote form is convinced .request isn't a function. Even though it is using the same function as the sales form only it is pushing it's form id to it. what the heck am i doing wrong? And how awful and waste of space is my code? So I am working on a project that converts fahrenheit to celcius, or the other way around. So when I click on the radio button for fahrenheit to celcius, it disables the celcius textbox, and the celcius to fahrenheit radio button disables the fahrenheit text box. What I can't figure out is how to get my radio buttons to reset the form to be able to enter another conversion to be made. What it does is locks up both text boxes so that I can't enter anything at all after the first time I do it. Code: <body> <div id="content"> <h1>Convert temperature</h1> <input type="radio" onclick="reset();document.getElementById('degrees_celcius').disabled=this.checked" name="conversion_type" id="to_celcius" />From Fahrenheit to Celcius<br /> <input type="radio" onclick="reset();document.getElementById('degrees_fahrenheit').disabled=this.checked" name="conversion_type" id="to_fahrenheit" />From Celcius to Fahrenheit<br /> <br /> <form id="foofoo"> <label>Degrees Fahrenheit:</label> <input type="text" id="degrees_fahrenheit" class="disabled" /><br /> <label>Degrees Celcius:</label> <input type="text" id="degrees_celcius" class="disabled"/><br /> <br /> </form> <input type="button" id="convert" value="Convert" /><br /> <br /> </div> </body> Code: var temperature = function (){//This f if($("to_celcius").checked == true) { var far = parseFloat($("degrees_fahrenheit").value ); if(isNaN(far)) { alert("Please enter a valid temperature.") return; } var far_cel =Math.round((far-32) * 5/9); $("degrees_celcius").value = far_cel; }else ($("to_fahrenheit").checked ==true) { var cell = parseFloat($("degrees_celcius").value); if(isNaN(cell)) { alert("Please enter a valid temperature.") return; } var cel_far = Math.round(cell * 9/5 + 32); $("degrees_fahrenheit").value = cel_far; } } function reset()//resets the text box fields { $("foofoo").reset(); } window.onload = function(){ $("convert").onclick = temperature; $("to_fahrenheit").onclick = reset; $("to_celcius").onclick = reset; } I found a script that is perfect for my need but it is written for forms textareas and I can seem to get it to work textareas that are not wrapped in form. Code: Code: <script>function insertAtCursor(sTag,eTag) { var obj = document.form.message; var strPos; var ie_strPos; var oSel; obj.focus(); strPos += sTag.length + eTag.length; ie_strPos += sTag.length + eTag.length; if (document.selection && document.selection.createRange) { // Internet Explorer oSel = document.selection.createRange(); if (oSel.parentElement() == obj) { oSel.text = sTag + oSel.text + eTag; ie_strPos += oSel.text.length; } oSel.moveStart ('character', ie_strPos); oSel.moveEnd ('character', 0); oSel.select (); } else if (typeof(obj) != "undefined") { // Firefox var longueur = parseInt(obj.value.length); var selStart = obj.selectionStart; var selEnd = obj.selectionEnd; obj.value = obj.value.substring(0,selStart) + sTag + obj.value.substring(selStart,selEnd) + eTag + obj.value.substring(selEnd,longueur); strPos += txtarea.value.substring(selStart,selEnd).length; obj.selectionStart = strPos; obj.selectionEnd = strPos; obj.focus (); } else obj.value += sTag + eTag; obj.focus(); } </script> <button onclick="insertAtCursor('[blah]','[/blah]')">Test</button> <form method="post" name="form" action=""> <textarea name="message" cols="50" rows="10"></textarea> </form> My textarea: Code: <textarea id="new_topic_text" class="new-topic-subject-text elastic" style="overflow: hidden;"></textarea> I have a form, which has a textarea. Hello, The following web page is an essay, but there is JavaScript code in the head area: http://www.pinyinology.com/content/content3c.html You can see the 'Press F5 to reset' command, and please try it to see what happens. What I like is to create another command 'Click here to reset'. Therefore, there will be two commands for the reset task. Then it becomes: Click here or press F5 to reset. The press F5 stuff in the code is as follows; Code: //Typewriting code message='<span id="inTxt">wen<sup>2</sup></span>'; pos=0; maxlength=message.length+1; function writemsg() { if (pos<maxlength) { txt=message.substring(pos,0); document.getElementById('edit').innerHTML=txt; pos++; timer=setTimeout('writemsg()', 20); } } //Typewriting code2 own addition message2='<span id="inTxt2">wen<sup>2</sup>闻. ven<sup>2</sup>:文纹. win<sup>2</sup>:蚊. vin<sup>2</sup>:雯.'; pos=0; maxlength=message2.length+1; function writemsg2() { if (pos<maxlength) { txt=message2.substring(pos,0); document.getElementById('listing').innerHTML=txt; pos++; timer=setTimeout('writemsg2()', 20); } } Below is the complete code. It may help. Code: function KeyDown() { var key=window.event.keyCode; if (key==8) { window.event.returnValue=false; var r=document.selection.createRange(); r.collapse(false); r.move("character",-1); r.collapse(false); var p=r.parentElement(); if (p.nodeName.toLowerCase()=="sup"){ p.outerHTML=""; return; } window.event.returnValue=true; } } function KeyPress() { var key=window.event.keyCode; window.event.returnValue=false; if (key>=48 && key<=57) { var r=document.selection.createRange(); r.collapse(false); var d=r.duplicate(); d.moveStart("character",-1); var c=d.text; var p=d.parentElement(); var b=/[A-Za-z]/.test(c); //b=b || p.nodeName.toLowerCase()=="sup"; if (b) { d.collapse(false); var s=String.fromCharCode(key); s=(p.nodeName.toLowerCase()=="sup")? s:"<SUP>"+s+"</SUP>"; d.pasteHTML(s); d.collapse(false); d.select(); return; } } if (!(key in {37:1,38:1,39:1,40:1})) { var r=document.selection.createRange(); r.collapse(false); p=r.parentElement(); if (p.nodeName.toLowerCase()=="sup") { var s=p.outerHTML; p.removeNode(true); r.pasteHTML(s); r.collapse(false); r.select(); } } window.event.returnValue=true; } //Below for status line myMsg = " Happy Chinese typing !" var i = 0; function scrollMsg() { window.status = myMsg.substring(i,myMsg.length) + myMsg.substring(0,i); if (i < myMsg.length) { i++ } else { i = 0 } setTimeout("scrollMsg()",120) } function stoptimer() { clearTimeout(timer); } //Following function is for the appreciation window function newWindow() { catWindow = window.open('appr2.html', 'catwin','width=395,height=235, scrollbars=yes'); catWindow.focus(); } //Typewriting code message='<span id="inTxt">wen<sup>2</sup></span>'; pos=0; maxlength=message.length+1; function writemsg() { if (pos<maxlength) { txt=message.substring(pos,0); document.getElementById('edit').innerHTML=txt; pos++; timer=setTimeout('writemsg()', 20); } } //Typewriting code2 own addition message2='<span id="inTxt2">wen<sup>2</sup>闻. ven<sup>2</sup>:文纹. win<sup>2</sup>:蚊. vin<sup>2</sup>:雯.'; pos=0; maxlength=message2.length+1; function writemsg2() { if (pos<maxlength) { txt=message2.substring(pos,0); document.getElementById('listing').innerHTML=txt; pos++; timer=setTimeout('writemsg2()', 20); } } function stoptimer() { clearTimeout(timer); } Thanks in advance for your help. I just joined this forum today, so I hope i'm not posting anything against the rules. if I am I will be more than happy to delete this thread. before I post my actual code can somebody please tell me if its okay to do so? the only reason I ask is because it is for a class project. I DID read the rules, but was still unsure if asking for help is okay or not. (because it is for an assignment) I don't want anybody to do the work for me, I just want to know if it is okay for me to ask for some assistance? any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Again, I hope I haven't broken any rules with this request.
Hi i have very little javascript experience and need some help, i have made a rest button to reset select forms to there top value using this function ResetForm(){ document.getElementById('canvas').value = 6 ; document.getElementById('acrlyic').value = 10 ; } is there a way to make so instead of having "value = 6;" it would just reset to the option with the smallest value? it will be used on multiple pages were the same name select will have different values on the options Hello guys I have a website which uses several forms to input data, each form contains fields for the user to complete and at the end of the each form the user has the option to proceed or go back. The problem is, on form1 there is a drop down box which determines the content of subsequent forms but when a user partially completes form2 but then goes back to form1 and changes the drop down box selection, the onchange function reloads the subsequent forms but it does not clear the previous form2 values so an error is generated because those inputs are not required with the change made to the drop down box. I have tried setting the ids to zero using getelementbyid on form1 but it does not seem to work presumably because the ids are on form2 not form1? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Using the following script: <script language="JavaScript">TargetDate = "01/22/2010 7:50 AM UTC-0500"; BackColor = "palegreen"; ForeColor = "navy"; CountActive = true; CountStepper = -1; LeadingZero = true; DisplayFormat = "%%D%% Days, %%H%% Hours, %%M%% Minutes, %%S%% Seconds."; FinishMessage = "Call In Now!!! Lines Are Open" </script> Want target date to equal every day so it resets after the target date and time is hit. Optionally, it would be nice to have it reset 60 minutes after target is hit (so the FinishMessage can display) but if that's too complicated, I'd be happy to not have to manually reset the date every day. I apologize in advance for being a newbie and this may be a straight-forward and simple issue. One my website its one index page, putting in content depending on the link (ie ?page=xxxxx) and from that it generats the page name, (Page name - MySite). I also have an AJAX search form working on keyup (kinda like google autosearch). I want it so when i start typing there it changes the title to Search - MySite. Then when its empty revert to what ever it was before. Could someone gimmie a hand doing this? I already have the AJAX coding for the search bar so i can post that if iy would help more. EDIT: Also i need to check if its on the homepage or not, and if not load the homepage (currently done by php include), does javascript have an equivelant of php's include? I have a number picker that works fine BUT when I reset the fields to enter another number, the start button will not work. I had to make it so the page reloads in order for the start button to work. This not only makes the site look worse than it already does but it's annoying to wait for the page to reload. I'd like to get all these bugs worked out and work on the site appearance after. Am I stuck with this reload thing or does someone know how I can fix it? Here's a link....http://www.psychiclotto.org/ |
