JavaScript - Javascript Time Delay
Hey all, I have a couple of videos that display on web page. I want one to display 5 seconds after another when someone clicks a link. Now I know of the setTimeout method, but I can't seem to get it to work in this below code. The thing is both of the video elements are in the same function. Any help will be greatly appreciated:
Code: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- window.onload = initLinks; var myVid = new Array("area2d.swf","Bar2D.swf", "Column3D.swf", "Column2D.swf"); var myFlash = new Array("data/Area2D.xml","data/Bar2D.xml", "data/Column3D.xml", "data/Column2D.xml"); var thisVid = 0; function initLinks() { document.getElementById("vid1").onclick = processVid1; document.getElementById("vid2").onclick = processVid2; document.getElementById("vid3").onclick = processVid3; document.getElementById("prevLink").onclick = processPrevious; document.getElementById("nextLink").onclick = processNext; } function processVid1() { document.getElementById("myVideo").src = myVid[0]; document.getElementById("myVideo").dataURL = myFlash[0]; document.getElementById("myVideo2").src = myVid[1]; document.getElementById("myVideo2").dataURL = myFlash[1]; return false } function processVid2() { document.getElementById("myVideo").src = myVid[2]; document.getElementById("myVideo").dataURL = myFlash[2]; document.getElementById("myVideo2").src = myVid[3]; document.getElementById("myVideo2").dataURL = myFlash[3]; return false } function processVid3() { document.getElementById("myVideo").src = myVid[2]; return false } function processPrevious() { if (thisVid == 0) { thisVid = myVid.length; } thisVid--; document.getElementById("myVideo").src = myVid[thisVid]; return false; } function processNext() { thisVid++; if (thisVid == myVid.length) { thisVid = 0; } document.getElementById("myVideo").src = myVid[thisVid]; return false; } --> </script> </head> <body> <div id="slideshow"> <h1>Introducing</h1> <table width=""> <tr> <td> <embed src="area2d.swf" flashVars="&dataURL=data/Area2D.xml&debugMode=0&chartWidth=295&chartHeight=295" quality="high" width="295" height="295" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" id="myVideo" /> </embed> <td <td> <embed src="Bar2D.swf" flashVars="&dataURL=data/Bar2D.xml&debugMode=0&chartWidth=295&chartHeight=295" quality="high" width="295" height="295" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess="always" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" id="myVideo2" /> </embed> <td </tr> </table> </div> <div id="pageTree"> <ul> <li><a href="video1.html" id="vid1">Area</a></li> <li><a href="video2.html" id="vid2">Bar</a></li> <li><a href="video3.html" id="vid3">Inventory</a></li> </ul> </div> <div align="center"> <h2><a href="previous.html" id="prevLink">« Previous</a> <a href="next.html" id="nextLink">Next »</a></h2> </div> </body> Similar Tutorialshi i am using jquery for ajax request response. Is there any javascript functions which can cause some time delay like Code: ajaxStart(function() { showAnimation(); delay(5000s): }); Pretty simple, I just want to display a <div> after say 20 seconds or any predefined value. Ideally with jQuery
Can someone help me please? here is the script i'm working on: <script type="text/javascript"> function open_win() { window.open("Blank"); } </script> </head> </script> <form name = "myform"> <select name = "numberWindows" onchange = "openThem()"> <option value = "0">Choose....</option> <option value = "5">5</option> <option value = "10">10</option> <option value = "15">15</option> <option value = "20">20</option> <option value = "25">25</option> <option value = "30">30</option> <option value = "35">35</option> <option value = "40">40</option> </select> </form> <script type = "text/javascript"> var i; function openThem() { var val = parseInt(document.myform.numberWindows.value); for (i =0; i < val; i++) { open_win();} } </script> </body> </html> The script currently asks for the amount of tabs to open then opens them when the amount is selected. What i need to do is slow down the time between each open window to like 1000 millisecs i have tried using thread.sleep but then it only opens 1 tab. Hi, im fairly new at all this, so please forgive me if I have misunderstood the guidelines on posting threads for this topic. Im needing some help with adding a timed delay for a widget I have on my website. My website is hosted on moonfruit, a flash based web builder, its very beginners level, and so this makes me feel like the new kid at school posting on this forum. however moonfruit does have a HTML/JavaScript snippet Which allows me to paste in code and show the cooliris gallery But is has become crucial to my websites completion that this widget must have a timed delay on it ive been at google for days till the point where im seeing the same pages again, and have come across setTimeout, unfortunately that's as far as I can seem to go, ive tried pasting in the code in numerous places and I just cant get it to work, i have pasted in other JavaScript codes, and they have worked, so i am convinced that its just me being a noob, other than it being a limitation on moonfruit I would appreciate any help with this Here is the code that im trying to get a delayed time of 10 seconds or so. [CODE] <object id="o" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="845" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://apps.cooliris.com/embed/cooliris.swf"/><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"/><param name="flashvars" value="style=dark&backgroundColor=#0d0d0d&feed=api://www.flickr.com/?user=41683862@N04%26album=72157622009594203&glowColor=#FFFFFF&showSearch=false&showEmbed=false&show Tutorial=true&showChrome=true"/><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://apps.cooliris.com/embed/cooliris.swf" flashvars="style=dark&backgroundColor=#0d0d0d&feed=api://www.flickr.com/?user=41683862@N04%26album=72157622009594203&glowColor=#FFFFFF&showSearch=false&showEmbed=false&show Tutorial=true&showChrome=true" width="845" height="350" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always"></embed></object> [CODE] Again any help is most appreciated I want to be able to display the whole contents of a text file containing 4 paragraphs of text, on a static web page, as soon as a video finishes playing on the page. The video is to be set to autorun as soon as the page loads in the browser. The text file mentioned above, is to remain hidden when the page initially loads and the video is playing. Please I need your advice about what JavaScript code to use to achieve this effect, and where to place the code in the HTML code of the web page. I am new to website design and the use of JavaScript code. I have seen examples of code used for the timed delay of the display of an image file, after a video has finished playing. I do not know how to apply this to the display of a text file. I do not want to convert the whole text file into an image file, as I feel this would negatively affect the search engine optimisation of the page, if there is no text content on the page. Thank you. 1 down vote favorite I do have the countdown script (see link below) to display the time between current time and the date given in real-time. However, I want to achieve to display the time difference between a given start and end time. Right now, it calculates from the current server time to the end time. I want to be able to set up my own start time and end time. Here is what I have: http://jsfiddle.net/BgEtE/ thank you for help I want to make a javascript clock (using Server time and not user computer time). After searching I have found the code on http://www.elated.com/articles/creat...ascript-clock/ The Code is: PHP Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <style type="text/css"> #clock { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 0.8em; color: white; background-color: black; border: 2px solid purple; padding: 4px; } </style> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- function init ( ) { timeDisplay = document.createTextNode ( "" ); document.getElementById("clock").appendChild ( timeDisplay ); } function updateClock ( ) { var currentTime = new Date ( ); var currentHours = currentTime.getHours ( ); var currentMinutes = currentTime.getMinutes ( ); var currentSeconds = currentTime.getSeconds ( ); // Pad the minutes and seconds with leading zeros, if required currentMinutes = ( currentMinutes < 10 ? "0" : "" ) + currentMinutes; currentSeconds = ( currentSeconds < 10 ? "0" : "" ) + currentSeconds; // Choose either "AM" or "PM" as appropriate var timeOfDay = ( currentHours < 12 ) ? "AM" : "PM"; // Convert the hours component to 12-hour format if needed currentHours = ( currentHours > 12 ) ? currentHours - 12 : currentHours; // Convert an hours component of "0" to "12" currentHours = ( currentHours == 0 ) ? 12 : currentHours; // Compose the string for display var currentTimeString = currentHours + ":" + currentMinutes + ":" + currentSeconds + " " + timeOfDay; // Update the time display document.getElementById("clock").firstChild.nodeValue = currentTimeString; } // --> </script> </head> <body onload="updateClock(); setInterval('updateClock()', 1000 )"> <div> <span id="clock"> </span> </div> </body> </html> The problem is that it (the code above) is using the users computer time. (I found (in the comments of http://www.elated.com/articles/creat...ascript-clock/) that I should use: PHP Code: var currentTime = [serverValue goes here]; But I don't really know what should I put in the "serverValue goes here" ..... ) So how can I make this code to use the server time (and not the users time)? Any Suggestion Will Be Helpfull I am trying to set up a web that new times will be displayed when they add current times to a form. here is the static HTML <form method="POST" > current time is 11:32 AM</p> <p>add <input type="text" name="T1" size="5" value="20"> mins and the new time time would be <b> 11:52 AM</b></p> <p>add another<input type="text" name="T2" size="5" value="15"> mins and the time then changes to <b>12:07 PM</b></p> <p><input type="submit" value="Submit" name="B1"></p> <p><input type="reset" value="Reset" name="B2"></p> </form> I would like to have the new times to change dynamically as they type in either (or both) input boxes I cannot get my JavaScript code to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. Kami Hello, I was given an assignment to change an existing form into one that will automatically perform calculations and since I have never done this before I am learning as I go. The form needs to do the following: gr_percentage = list_percentage + sale_percentage gr_comm_dollars = gr_percentage * price list_comm_dollars = list_percentage * price and so on. I also need to calculate the following gr_total_dollars = gr_comm_dollars + gr_fixed_dollars + gr_bonus_dollars (all of which will be calculated on entries for the sale and list portions). I though that I had it figured out but upon testing the form it does nothing. Please let me know what I need to change in order for the calculations to work properly. Hi, I am trying to build a counter in javascript. The time on the counter should be displayed in hours, minutes and seconds<24:00:00>. When the counter reaches 00:00:00, it should stop.I read some books and they say that I must use the setInterval function to implement the timer. The problem is I don't know how to begin it. Could anybody give me some guidance on where to begin to do something like this. My javascript skills are basic as you can probably tell but I do like to learn it step by step. Thanks in advance Hi guys. I'm trying to make a small bit of scripting that will show the current time, updating once every second. What I need is the following: 1. Multiple timezones or GMT offsets (just put me on the right path, I can code them in, 2. Daylight savings time taken into consideration (only for Australia), adding the 1 hour during the times it is needed, 3. Text to show "Open" and "Closed" during different times (open during 8am to 5pm and closed if not 8am to 5pm.) I have the following code as a start, but I am completely stuck with how to get the rest of what I need! Any help would be appreciated. <h4>Victoria <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var currentTime = new Date() var hours = currentTime.getHours() var minutes = currentTime.getMinutes() if (minutes < 10){ minutes = "0" + minutes } document.write(hours + ":" + minutes + " ") if(hours > 11){ document.write("PM") } else { document.write("AM") } //--> </script> <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- var currentTime = new Date() var hours = currentTime.getHours() var minutes = currentTime.getMinutes() if (minutes < 10){ minutes = "0" + minutes } if(hours > 11){ document.write("True") } else { document.write("False") } //--> </script> </h4> Cheers in advance. Dale. I am trying to make a simple calculator to calculate dBm, Vpp, Vrms. It is basically a conversion calculator. I am brand new to JavaScript and tried to follow a tutorial but I'm coming up short. I will post both my .js and .html code below. My issue is that when I hit the "Calculate" button nothing happens. Here is the javascript. It has a main calculate function and a function that gives me a log base 10 method. Code: //Main Calculation function calculate() { if(dBm === null && Vpp === null){ var calc = document.getElementById('ecalc'); var Vpp2 = (4*Vrms)/Math.sqrt(2); var dBm2 = 20 * (log10(Vpp/(Math.sqrt(0.008*Z)))); var Vrms2 = Vrms; return false; } else if(Vpp === null && Vrms === null){ var calc = document.getElementById('ecalc'); var Vpp2 = Math.sqrt(0.008*Z)*Math.pow(10,(dBm/20)); var Vrms2 = (Math.sqrt(2)/2)*(Vpp/2); var dBm2 = dBm; return false; } else if(dBm === null && Vrms === null){ var calc = document.getElementById('ecalc'); var dBm2 = 20 * (log10(Vpp/(Math.sqrt(0.008*Z)))); var Vrms2 = (Math.sqrt(2)/2)*(Vpp/2); var Vpp2 = Vpp; return false; } calc.Vpp2.value = Vpp2; calc.Vrms2.value = Vrms2; calc.dBm2.value = dBm2; return false; } //Log base 10 Function function log10(val) { return Math.log(val) / Math.log(10); } Here is the HTML. It has the form in it. As you can see there are 4 inputs. Z is required and only one of the other values can be entered (hence the if statements in the js. Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta content="text/html; charset=utf-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" /> <title>Untitled 1</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="Calculate.js"> </script> </head> <body> <form id="ecalc" action="#"> <table align="center"border="1"> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center"> Enter a Z value and one other value. </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">dBm: </td> <td align="left"><input type="text" name="dBm" size="20" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">Vpp: </td> <td align="left"><input type="text" name="Vpp" size="20" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">Vrms: </td> <td align="left"><input type="text" name="Vrms" size="20" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">Z (Ohms): </td> <td align="left"><input type="text" name="Z" size="20" value="50" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center"> <input type="button" value="Calculate" onclick= "calculate();" /> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">dBm:</td> <td alig="left"><input type="text" name="dBm2" size="20" readonly="readonly" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">Vpp:</td> <td alig="left"> <input type="text" name="Vpp2" size="20" readonly="readonly" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right">Vrms:</td> <td alig="left"> <input type="text" name="Vrms2" size="20" readonly="readonly" /></td> </tr> </table> </form> </body> </html> There is probably something simple that needs to be fixed but I have spent a whole day trying to figure this out. If anyone has any comments please let me know. Thanks in advance! Greetz, I am new to JS and using code that someone gave me. I have cleaned up the code, made it standard compliant and tailored it to my need. The code is for an ultra basic picture gallery. The code is almost perfect, but there is one undesirable effect in which when an image is selected from the thumbnail gallery, the thumbnail dissapears as I am guessing its the same element, just blown up. What I would like to know is how I can stop it from happening? I will post the full output of the HTML file. I have also uploaded zip file which contains the HTML file and two images, so one may see the compiled page as I do. Zip file (Note: STUPID hosting site placed the DOWNLOAD button right under "MP3 ringtones"... Clicking download will not take you to some premium SMS service or anything like that): http://qfs.mobi/f31666 Code: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <TITLE></TITLE> <META content="charset=windows-1252;text/html" http-equiv="content-type"> <SCRIPT type="text/javascript"> clickMenu = function(menu) { var getEls = document.getElementById(menu).getElementsByTagName("LI"); var getAgn = getEls; for (var i=0; i<getEls.length; i++) { getEls[i].onclick=function() { for (var x=0; x<getAgn.length; x++) { getAgn[x].className=getAgn[x].className.replace("click", ""); } this.className+=" click"; } } } </SCRIPT> <STYLE type="text/css"> #gallery ul { float:right; overflow:auto } #gallery ul li { display:inline; width:50px; height:50px; float:left; margin:0 4px 4px 0; border:1px solid #444; cursor:pointer } #gallery ul li img { display:block; height:50px } #gallery ul li span { display:none; position:absolute; left:447px; top:235px; font-family:verdana; color:#06a } #gallery ul li.click { border-color:#fc0; cursor:default } #gallery ul li.click i { position:absolute; left:0; width:545px } #gallery ul li.click i img { margin:5px auto 0 auto; height:auto } #gallery ul li.click span { display:block } </STYLE> <BODY onload="clickMenu('gallery')"> <DIV id="gallery"> <UL> <LI><I><IMG src="1.png" title="" alt=""></I><SPAN>Front</SPAN></LI> <LI><I><IMG src="2.png" title="" alt=""></I><SPAN>Back</SPAN></LI> </UL> </DIV> </BODY> Much appreciated! |
